Sharks don't lay eggs. The first statement is false, therefore the second statement must be false also. That's how that works.

Incorrect. Many species of sharks do in fact lay eggs. Some lay eggs inside their womb and some have true live birth.

The first statement is still false as large sharks do not lay eggs (even if they create eggs in their wombs, they do not lay them).

No, I mean that inside of some pregnant sharks is an egg, that you could take out and crack open. There is a scientific term for that type of egg I am sure but it is not like the usual mammalian egg.

I think the best way to describe it is that a mammalian egg doesn't have its own source of nutrients, it gets all nutrients from the mother. A shark egg has the nutrients inside, just like the eggs you eat for breakfast. Some sharks are even weirder however where first an egg is created in the womb then it hatches inside the womb and then the mother provides further nutrients.

Googled it and if it's true the whale shark has the largest egg but the ostrich lays the largest egg since whale sharks have live births.

Yeah, but idk, I just figured there might have been some kind of weird exception that caused a different egg to actually be larger but not still single-celled. I just wasn't 100% sure that there wasn't an exception, but was sure that ostrich eggs are the largest single-celled organisms.

That isn't even true. A few sharks lay eggs, but they're small. Most sharks have live births. In fact, tiger shark young fight and kill each other, while still inside their mother's womb. Brutal.

Actually, sharks are ovoviviparous! That means that they do have eggs, but the eggs hatch while still inside the mothers womb and the young are then birthed. So you are both right!

Except for the bit about shark eggs being the largest, that's wrong. It's dinosaurs. Dinosaurs have the largest eggs.

Some sharks are ovoviviparous, some have true live birth, some lay eggs and some (like certain Hammerheads) are a sort of hybrid, they lay an egg in their womb, the baby in the egg extracts nutrients from the egg, then when it hatches (still in the womb) the mother provides further nourishment.

I believe it is a coelacanth that lays the largest egg, so a fish not a shark. Oddly their fossils were discovered before the actual fish, and it was a great surprise when a live one turned up. They are considered a major link between fish and tetrapods. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coelocanth
