Woah he's the pastor of a huge church in my town. Super down to earth positive guy. awesome quote.

But that's all you have to compare your life to-- other people's "highlight reels."
[–]IsparianSexhaver 0 points1 point2 points 29 days ago
so stop comparing your life
[–]RayAP19 0 points1 point2 points 29 days ago
It's natural. We're both social and envious by nature, and when the two collide, this is what happens.

Thing is some of my acquaintances on facebook do enjoy life. I can confirm this because because I've been invited to go with them. I've gone only a few times with them, but I can say they were the most awesome experiences of my life.
Stop lying to yourself to feel better people have happy lives.
[–]eafkuor 2 points3 points4 points 1 month ago
Some people live better lives than us maybe, but I've never met anyone living a "happy life" period. If you get to know people you realize all of them have problems and struggles with their lives.

This is far from saying they're not "happy people" though. You can have problems and still overall be happy with your life.

I think I'm staring to understand the average FA of this subreddit. People here like to self-pity themselves and pretend to be martyrs. Their ideology must be "If I can't be happy, why should others?" Any small proof that they acquire of happy people struggling in their life they use it to fuel their self-confirmation bias and conclude with the idea that no one is happy. I'm getting sick of this and I know for sure this ain't good for improving one's outlook of life. From what I've seen the posts the show more self-pitying or demonstrate a martyr taking the blows of life gets more upvotes. WTF is this bullshit. I think I'm gonna get out of this subreddit and go outside instead.

This is so true.
[–]EnterTheStory 1 point2 points3 points 1 month ago
I'm sorry, I don't follow your point. Could you please clarify?
People here like to self-pity themselves and pretend to be martyrs.
So they are claiming to be significantly less happy than others?
Any small proof that they acquire of happy people struggling in their life they use it to fuel their self-confirmation bias and conclude with the idea that no one is happy.
So they are claiming to NOT be significantly less happy than others?
Or is your point that FAs say "everybody is lonely but we martyrs handle it better?"
[–]wrepard 1 point2 points3 points 1 month ago
Seems like you're doing the same exact thing when the advice you just gave people was "stop feeling better about yourselves". If seeing people who self-pity themselves makes you so upset, why would you have a problem with those who feel good about themselves? Seems like a slight contradiction to me.
[–]akutabiChattanooga 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago
That's probably a good idea.

Who woulda thought
[–]AtlasAnimated 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago
That isn't just this forum bro, it's the whole goddamn world. Most religions are based on the ideas that life is suffering and you have to renunciate desires from your heart.
[–]Crabpeoples 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago
You certainly thought about this quite a bit...lol hypocrite
[–]inquisitive872 2 points3 points4 points 1 month ago
Dude, some people have moderate lives. They have good careers with plenty of emotional support. The most they are concerned with is maybe a little physical insecurity. Most people aren't depressed. Only a fraction of the adult population in developed countries are reported to suffer from anxiety or depression. I'm not saying there isn't a degree of filtration of life portrayal on social media, but to deny that those who appear to be enjoying life on FB/Twitter are fronting is being in denial.

I used to have a happy life before illness and a ton of other crap hit. It's rare, and I recognized that and appreciated it all the more. Any period of sadness was at most ten or twenty minutes every six months.
[–]wrepard 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago
It's far better "lying to yourself to feel better" than depressing over it all day.
[–]madmoral 1 point2 points3 points 1 month ago
well the people on my facebook only post whiney stuff, so i can't relate to this quote :(
[–]arghnard21 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago
Funny. Watching the behind-the-scenes footage for movies makes me appreciate the movie even more.
Aside from that, I fucking hate facebook.
[–]SlickRoach 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago
This makes me feel much better about browsing Facebook. Whenever I see one of my friends having some hot, platonic female friend post on their wall about how much they miss hanging out with them while I'm lucky to have a girl even make eye contact with me.
[–]shivecs 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago
Well I can't exactly compare it to my nonexistent highlight reel.
all it takes is a username and password
create account
is it really that easy? only one way to find out...
already have an account and just want to login?
