If it is a problem, it'd be even better to tell them why it's not a good thing to use regularly instead of being all authoritarian and uncool about it, and probably hypocritical. Don't tell parents unless they're cool. Explain what it is and why people watch it or get involved in making it or whatever. Explain sex is just one part of relationships etc etc. Ignorance is the enemy here, not porn or young age. I watched porn from young because I had the internet from relatively young and I don't think my parents knew it existed there or didn't think their "good little boy" would look at such "filth". It was never really spoken about. One time when I said the word "porn" in a joke and they scolded me and asked me how I knew that word. It ensured I never mentioned it again, so it reduced the likelyhood I would ever initiate such a conversation with them again. I feel the lack of appropriate (non-demonising) guidance in such matters, whoevers fault, has been a hinderence in my perception of social relationships since. It's not a reason to ban or censor, it's a reason for appropriate guidance.

I don't think that word means what you think it means.

Normality with regard to human behaviour encompasses that which is prevalent and accepted throughout society. It doesn't dictate what is right or wrong, it just happens that there is often a great deal of overlap between the two. Now I would suggest that the majority of people do not enjoy horse porn and it isn't considered acceptable behaviour throughout society, therefore, it is not normal.

I didn't have a phone until I had a car. I don't really see any need for a child to have a cell phone, much less one with unlimited web access. Kids should be outside playing, learning about the world and such. You didn't have a home phone before you had a car? Where the hell did you grow up? If your house doesn't have a home phone (as many these days don't), you still need your child to have access to a phone. They're not always with you and I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want 10/11 year olds calling up my personal cell phone all the time to ask my kid if they can come over to my place.

Cell phones are more convenient, safer, and of similar price to land lines. There's really no reason not to have your kid have one as soon as they're old enough to not be with you 100% of the time.

They need to make calls to friends (when appropriate) and to their family. They certainly don't need to be a click away from anything they could possibly dream up, and I think there is some serious harm that will come from kids beginning their Facebook addiction before they have even reached the age of 10.

Your not having a cell phone until you had a car is immaterial when you still had access to a phone. They still need a phone. Again, entertainment device and communication device or two separate for both. Doesn't seem efficient to separate them.

There's serious harm from bad parents not talking to their children about using things, or imposing limits on things. If your kid is addicted to Facebook, that's not the phone's fault, or Facebook's fault, that's your fault.

It's an extremely practical, useful device, and there's nothing wrong with kids having one. The education about responsible internet usage needs to be done anyway, since it's not like their not having a phone will make it impossible to get on the web.

Oh, I don't doubt that at all. But I would venture a guess that porn wasn't as prevalent, accessible, and graphic as it is on today's WWW. I mean, it is EVERYWHERE these days. Even non-pornographic websites are littered with ads for adultfriendfinder.com and other less-than-wholesome adult material. As an official male human, I totally understand the curiosity and interest that comes with being that age.
