TIL I'm basically my boyfriend's cat when he's spending too much time on the computer.

[–]Creeper60 64 points65 points ago

who sits their hands on a keyboard like that?

What was he trying to accomplish? How many times he can press f9?

[–]hitlersnipples 33 points34 points ago

I was thinking that at first but maybe their cat does it every time they put their hands on the keyboard and they did it to make the gif effectively?

[–]Albaek 1 point2 points ago

.. Or they called the cat and it came. He's not doing anything on the computer.

[–]NotEntirelyUnlike 8 points9 points ago

Look at the first frame again

[–]NapoleonBonerfart 6 points7 points ago

cats come when you call their name?

[–]NotEntirelyUnlike 7 points8 points ago

Protecting from errant cat-presses? Why would he be holding them like that for keyboarding?

[–]Urbano35 0 points1 point ago

Yeah that's gotta be what he's doing. His palms are elevated and his fingers are at he very tip of the board.

[–]malicestar 3 points4 points ago

Worst. Homerow. Ever.

[–]beefinbed 2 points3 points ago

I honestly don't even think those are real hands.

[–]UnreachablePaul 0 points1 point ago

This is what i love about cats; They just do not give a fuck about you or anyone around you.

How is that a good trait...

[–]CGLefty15 23 points24 points ago

Maybe he likes assholes?

Must be a woman.

[–]toThe9thPower 35 points36 points ago

This isn't accurate though. Most cats are in fact very affectionate and the majority of cats that don't seem to give a shit are made that way by their owners. Cats do not respond to being hit as punishment when they do something wrong. This isn't an opinion, they literally never attach the physical punishment to what they just did.

So the cat essentially just thinks you are being an asshole for no reason. This is what leads to them not trusting humans. Yelling isn't good either but spanking you cat for doing something wrong is a sure fire way to make them distrust humans. I have had many cats and been around many more and they have all been very loving. This is a grand misconception that isn't going away anytime soon it seems.

[–]OzW 9 points10 points ago

Negative reinforcement does work on cats, but they're not pack animals like dogs, so it's not an obedience thing. Hitting them doesn't discourage them from doing anything, it just discourages them from getting caught doing it. If you punish them too often, they will associate you (or humans in general) with being punished, so it's much more effective to discretely spray them with water while they're not looking, so they don't realize it came from you.

While yelling isn't necessarily good (thinking of berating), verbal cues can be effective. My cats understand the stern "No" perfectly fine. Conditioned them to understand it by saying "No" in the same way while removing them from doing what they were doing. We also make them sit to go outside/inside so that we don't end up with scratching at doors.

[–]toThe9thPower 6 points7 points ago

Verbal cues can certainly work, I just wouldn't yell at them directly. I would imagine that loud arguments could also cause them to have this same distrust of humans. It really sucks because a lot of people think cats are not affectionate when they are very loving animals and they still enjoy time to themselves which is great honestly. Having any pet on your ass 24/7 is not fun.

[–]darkjohnnyboy 4 points5 points ago

Having any pet on your ass 24/7 is not fun.

I have jack russel terriers, this could not be more true.

[–]president_truman 3 points4 points ago

Verbal cues definitely work. Whenever our cat gets on the table we just make a stern psssst noise and he scatters.

[–]RedditHasBeenCoopted 4 points5 points ago

It's the same thing with loyalty.

It's hilarious when dog owners tout their undying loyalty as a redeeming quality.

If I saw a dog scampering back to its owner time and time again after being beaten and abused, I would not consider that a redeeming quality.

Loyalty is conditional for cats, just like many other intelligent, higher order species, like us. If you beat the fuck out of it, then the cat will say "fuck you" and not trust you again, as it should. As any human being would.

Otoh, once loyalty and affection is achieved and maintained, it's as strong as any.

[–]GiPes 3 points4 points ago

How do you teach a cat that he is not allowed to do something?

edit: Fixed the question

I have had many cats myself and even worked in an animal shelter my aunt helped run and have come across many and I assure you most cats are affectionate animals by default. They would have never been domesticated thousands of years ago if they were not valuable companions.

Most cats ARE affectionate and the majority of those that are not are made that way by their owners. Please do some research because there is endless information on why hitting cats is very bad and causes them to distrust or even despise humans altogether.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]toThe9thPower -1 points0 points ago

Those cats you speak of are an extremely small amount and even when the owners have not hit them other trauma and events could easily lead to them becoming antisocial. Many cats have had previous owners who could have hit them, and even yelling between people in the household can cause cats to become uneasy towards humans.

You assume I am implying all cats are affectionate when I have worded my statements properly from the beginning. MOST CATS are affectionate and MOST THAT ARE NOT are made that way by their owners/trauma/yelling/even previous owners.

There is a minuscule amount that are simply antisocial by default but this is such a small amount and in almost all cases that cat would be very affectionate. Do you understand yet?

[–]toThe9thPower -1 points0 points ago

I downvoted you? Do you have proof of this?

Feral cats? Oh geez, feral cats are as wild as anything out in the jungle I certainly was never referring to feral cats. I am talking about cats that have been around humans, they are almost always very affectionate and the majority of those who are not are made that way by their owners or other outside sources.

[–]ANNOYING_ALLCAPS_ASS -3 points-2 points ago

If your cat isn't affectionate, chances are you hit and yell at them. The majority of cats who seem aloof are obviously abused.

and this literally isn't just my opinion. This statement is backed up by a long study.

[–]shyscope 0 points1 point ago

This reminds me of a cat I used to own. This post actually made me laugh.

[–]Trypanosoma 9 points10 points ago

Ah.. the little known typing technique where you put all of your fingers on the F keys.

Also, this is cute as hell.

KarmaDecay actually puts that at the beginning of the table. I agree though, I can't think of a better way of saying that.

When I lay in bed and browse reddit from my phone, my cat will get fed up that I'm not petting him and he will head butt my phone haha He acts like he does it lovingly too, just to mindfuck you.

[–]NOTTedMosby 4 points5 points ago

[–]Secres 3 points4 points ago

His hands are barely moving the entire time...

[–]OscarWildez 18 points19 points ago

Maybe he saw the cat coming and just accepted his fate.

[–]thatdudewithissues 1 point2 points ago

I think my cat is broken. It doesn't do this...ever.

[–]xcutmegentlyx 1 point2 points ago

My kitten laid on my keyboard and restarted my computer once.

[–]Liberationdemonology 0 points1 point ago

This needed to happen during a boss fight of an MMO raid.

[–]noseonarug17 2 points3 points ago

[–]stevieboy100 0 points1 point ago

keyboard is warm

[–]mega-shark 0 points1 point ago

Kept hoping the human would lift the cat straight up. A little disappointed.

[–]zebtacular 1 point2 points ago

Whats the deal with the fake rubber hands?

[–]suckstoyourassmar8 2 points3 points ago

I thought I was the only one who actually realized it. The whole thread is "Why is he typing with the F keys!!"

[–]zebtacular 1 point2 points ago

Lol, no one pays attention to shit when there is a cat present.

[–]nosoyunchico 0 points1 point ago

My cat did exactly that as I opened the link. They're working together.

[–]jfivestar 0 points1 point ago

My fat cat did this to me a few weeks ago while I was falling asleep and now 'L' and my keypad '9' buttons on my laptop are like loose tiles..

[–]divsky 0 points1 point ago

What were you so busily typing using only the F1-F12 keys?

[–]badgrafxghost 0 points1 point ago

...I guess he fits.

[–]ThirstyWork 0 points1 point ago

Get that cat a box. Cats dig boxes.

[–]TwoEightThree 0 points1 point ago

I'm sorry. I can't work today. Something's crashed on my computer....

[–]Galewhale 0 points1 point ago

When cat sits on keyboard: "I will end you!" When cat sits on homework: "Who am I to disturb such a peaceful creature?"

[–]PennyLane91 0 points1 point ago

My cat always does this. He also gets pissed when I try to move him away. It litteraly looks like he is non-violently protesting.

[–]hackysackmatt -2 points-1 points ago
