That looks awfully a lot like gandalf.

[–]g0ing2f4st 8 points9 points ago

Looks a lot like him during that extended scene from the 3rd movie where hes talking to pippin about death

[–]tanerdamaner 6 points7 points ago

So, "Fuck you I'm Gandalf, motherfucker."

[–]Farren246 -1 points0 points ago

"At least Merry didn't whine like a little bitch, Harry."

[–]obstacle32 -2 points-1 points ago

That looks awesomely a lot like gandalf.

FTFY

[–]rscott89 17 points18 points ago

I would like to think if Dumbledore and Gandalf met in a cave and Gandalf told Dumbledore he shall not pass, the earth would split in half.

[–]DetectiveClownMD 6 points7 points ago

Or an epic reach around.

[–]Darknezz 4 points5 points ago

I'm sure this fanfic exists, but I'm not going to go looking for it.

[–]worm_bagged 1 point2 points ago

rule 34 bro. Respect it.

[–]deukhoofd 1 point2 points ago

Well someone has to. So here it is

[–]pugwalker -3 points-2 points ago

i think dumbledore would dominate gandalf in a fight

[–]haplo_and_dogs 2 points3 points ago

Gandalf the white wasn't human. No mortal weapon could have harmed him.

[–]NonaSuomi 4 points5 points ago

In all fairness, the Elder Wand wasn't exactly what you might call a "mortal weapon".

[–]pugwalker 1 point2 points ago

then why didn't he just walk the ring to mount doom?

[–]JackalKing 2 points3 points ago

Because Sauron was a tier higher on the demi-god scale.

No really. If it was any human king Gandalf wouldn't have had a single problem doing the job himself. It was only because Sauron was orders of magnitude higher in power than even Gandalf that he couldn't just walk into Mordor (or fly on the Eagles).

Its not that Gandalf wasn't powerful, its that Sauron was just more powerful.

And if you go further into the lore, Morgoth, Sauron's former master, was even more powerful than that!

[–]DrLasagna 1 point2 points ago

He was grey when the journey started.

[–]Naldaen 1 point2 points ago

Gandalf the Grey still wasn't human. Gandalf would shit on Dumbledore and his Army.

[–]i_did_not_enjoy_that 16 points17 points ago

You can't. They just changed it in the movie to avoid pacing issues and an understandably unnecessary scene of them leaving the grounds.

But in the books, they had to walk all the way to Hogsmeade before they could Apparate.

[–]darkslide3000 6 points7 points ago

One could argue that this is one of the parts where the movies actually improved the story. Even the books said that the whole anti-apparition thing was not a property of the castle itself but solely Dumbledore's own magic. It makes sense that he is not bound by it... that would be like a sysadmin who cannot get around his own firewall. It doesn't make sense, and when they had those apparition classes he seemed to have no problem with making a temporary exception either.

[–]Recitavis 4 points5 points ago

imo, all "book" movies are just interpretations of the books. It saves me the disappointment of finding out they never are the same. Personally, I liked this change as well.

[–]LarzHoneytoast 1 point2 points ago

I've always thought that it would be awesome to recreate the HP books in a HBO series, word for word and scene for scene...

[–]Recitavis 0 points1 point ago

I really hope HBO continues making quality series. As a history person, I loved Rome.

[–]LarzHoneytoast 0 points1 point ago

They do a great job. I have yet to see rome... It's on my list though

[–]Bin-able 0 points1 point ago

1st season: Great.

Don't bother with the second season. :)

[–]pugwalker 0 points1 point ago

Well dumbledore can apparate out of hogwarts but i dont think he can take harry with him. In the fifth book fudge comes to arrest him and he stuns everyone then disapparates.

[–]penguin_thievery 5 points6 points ago

You still can't apparate within hogwarts grounds.

[–]DetectiveClownMD 4 points5 points ago

The fact the elves could made no sense to me. I know they say the bad wizards look down on the elves but for fucks sake you could infiltrate anywhere protected with a god damn elf.

[–]nitefang 1 point2 points ago

Yea but if no one really paid attention to them, it would be like someone suggesting we could use Mexicans to invade any country....

....wait...

[–]GahLant 1 point2 points ago

That's part of the wizard's superiority complex. It's explained in the books.

[–]DetectiveClownMD 1 point2 points ago

Oh I read the books I know it's a superiority complex but in the end it makes no sense. You'd think at least one dark wizard would take advantage of this. It'd be as if during the civil war black slaves had a way to break northern lines without anyone ever knowing. The south would have used it to their advantage.

Signed, The Internet where we argue about the realism of a children's magic book.

[–]GahLant 0 points1 point ago

But the realism is what makes it so magical.

[–]Wisdom_from_the_Ages 4 points5 points ago

HOLY SHIT! I just realized. Sir Ian is gay. Dumbledore is gay.

Match made in heaven.

Or hell, if you're a fundamentalist douchebag....

[–]bellabob -5 points-4 points ago

Except Sir Ian doesn't play Dumbledore.

[–]Wisdom_from_the_Ages 8 points9 points ago

Right. I'm saying Gandalf and Dumbledore should smooch.

[–]bellabob 2 points3 points ago

Ahh, my bad.

[–]contra31 0 points1 point ago

should snog*

[–]patternfall 2 points3 points ago

Someone explain this to someone that has never read the books and barely paid attention to the movies.

[–]Darknezz 3 points4 points ago

It's established within the fiction that teleportation magic (apparating) is impossible within the grounds of the school. This is as much a protection from outside interference (like, say, Voldemort and his duders just showing up whenever they want) as it is protection for over-eager students who want to try it before they're ready (as this would result in loss of limb or life).

In the movie this screenshot references (Half-Blood Prince, I believe), Dumbledore is able to Apparate from his office on Hogwarts grounds. In the book, Dumbledore actually takes Harry outside of the warded area to Apparate, but for the purposes of the film, it was decided that Dumbledore can do whatever the fuck he wants because he's the one who set the protective enchantments anyway.

[–]patternfall -1 points0 points ago

k

[–]zobbas -2 points-1 points ago

I guess you're getting downvoted for not being as interested in things the rest of reddit is

[–]KShults 0 points1 point ago

And thus we see the dawn of man and horses.

[–]turkjurk 0 points1 point ago

Well, being ME, has its advantages. What a badass.

[–]Breca 0 points1 point ago

This really should have been his response! Love it!

[–]captain_jerkface 1 point2 points ago

That whole series was just one deus ex machina after another. So overrated.

[–]Pink-Pineapple 0 points1 point ago

Stupid Harry. Dumbledore can do whatever the fuck he wants.he's Dumbeldore. The true choosen one

[–]SokkasInstincts 1 point2 points ago

Jesus normaly I don't mind reposts but this is like the 5th time this week

[–]Living_Dead_Girl 0 points1 point ago

That's what the line should have been. No one can tell Dumbledore what to do.
