  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

Hate to sound insensitive, and I know that she's on the talk show specifically to discuss her condition, but I really hate those kinds of loaded questions. "How do you stay positive when you know you're dying?" man fuck you. Ask me about something else. You don't go to somebody who's just been dumped and say "How do you feel even though your heart just got shat on and your ex is probably fucking somebody new and is totally happier now?"

Well, loaded questions are usually meant to get a rise out of the person being asked, not the audience. It's a very common question asked towards people with terminal illnesses when they come on television programs. And it's something that the audience actually wants to know, how can someone be optimistic and happy when they have a terminal illness? How can someone live with a horrible disease with a smile? It's a legitimate question to ask, and for most people who do interviews, the answer is usually the reason why they are being singled out and on the show to begin with.

I would definitely argue that the producers would have LOVED to see her break down and start crying when asked a question like that, which I believe is partly why they asked a question liked. I won't disagree that people are genuinely curious and actually are interested in an answer like that which I also agree is why they brought her on the show to begin with.

Why would she break down and start crying? If she is being singled out and on the show then I'm pretty sure that she is through that stage and has hit acceptance. It's not like she has completely forgotten that she's sick and the question all the sudden reminded her. She is on the show because she is a happy terminally ill girl, of course they are going to ask why she is happy while also being terminally ill.

These kinds of question can provoke answers that settle the audience and make them feel more comfortable about the situation. The reason is that these answers will be motivational. These will be motivational for other cancer patients as well! Maybe.

If you honestly think this is genuine, that Ellen just happened to ask that question, and the kid honestly responded that way...I don't really know what to tell you.

Maybe watching Finding Nemo honestly inspired that kid. But Ellen must've known that, and set her up for the question. And even if that's the case, I would be very surprised if someone didn't suggest she phrase it like that. It's just a very adult "Aww that's so cute!" way of saying it.
