Beware of trading scammers!

A subreddit for anything related to games (but not sports).

"Related" means that posts must contain gaming-related content in the link/post body, not just a "forced" connection via the title or a caption added to the content.

Posting Rules

  • Posts must be directly gaming-related. Thus, "generic" image macros/memes (where the character itself is not related to gaming) like Scumbag Steve, Good Guy Greg, etc. will be removed. Something that "reminds you of a game", or "looks like something from a game" is also not an appropriate submission; similarly, reaction GIFs are also not appropriate as submissions.

  • Following Reddiquette is encouraged

  • No "general" URL shorteners (bitly, tinyurl, etc). Single-site URL shorteners (such as youtu.be or fav.me) are allowed.

  • NSFW submissions and comments must be labeled

  • Spoilers can be posted using the following formatting:
    [X Kills Y](/spoiler)
    Result: X Kills Y.

  • To mark a spoiler as relevant to a specific game/topic, use the alternate formatting:
    [Player 1 wins](/spoiler "Pong")
    Result:
    Player 1 wins

  • Report posts containing spoilers not using the above method

  • Don't post users' personal information.

Submission Rules

Is your post not showing up? Do not delete it. Wait 5 minutes to give AutoModerator a chance to look at it; it approves most submissions automatically. If it hasn't shown up after more than 5 minutes, simply message the moderators and ask us to let it through.

Behind the scenes

Edit: someone posted it. Ignore this.

[–]communismfairy 239 points240 points ago

the gif really doesn't do it justice, this guy is actually really talented.

[–]I_am_salad 288 points289 points ago

I'm even more impressed with the camera work.

[–]MyHoovesClack 27 points28 points ago

Devinsupertramp is an awesome filmmaker, you should look at more of the videos on his channel. Some of the places he goes and things he does are absolutely amazing.

[–]zero_divide_1 6 points7 points ago

He is also the videographer behind Lindsey Sterling's awesome videos.

[–]Harkaen 6 points7 points ago

All of her videos are filmed in really nice places. His job is literally going to nice places and doing what he wants. Bastard.

[–]siborg51 84 points85 points ago

That was my thought, it was really steady, and he kept up with the guy

[–]mioko 80 points81 points ago

[–]prunk 86 points87 points ago

[–]pedanticheron 77 points78 points ago

Somewhere, deep in the recesses of that chickens DNA, is a dinosaur wondering where in the world everything went wrong.

[–]sinisterlefty 29 points30 points ago

a big rock from space fucked you is what happened. Who woulda thought?

[–]Higher_Primate 14 points15 points ago

and then he remembers; fucking space rocks, man...

[–]KousKous 2 points3 points ago

T-Rex chose the middle ending in Mass Effect 3.

[–]mortiphago 6 points7 points ago

i could watch this for ages

[–]THCnebula 11 points12 points ago

wtf thats awesome. no idea how it works though.

[–]FancyKetchupIsnt 16 points17 points ago

If I'm not mistaken, the extra material adds weight to it, which makes a more stable platform, and the extra arm makes it harder for the camera to quickly shudder in any direction due to both the weight of the arm and the increased inertia of the whole apparatus due to the arms' distance from the fulcrum.

(I'm sure I totally butchered that, if I'm wrong, or worded something badly, someone correct me!)

[–]AcolyteRB3 63 points64 points ago

so just tape your camera to a huge fucking rock.

[–]UrbtoOSU 21 points22 points ago

We have a winner here people.

[–]frickingphil 14 points15 points ago

That, and it's on a gimbal that isolates your hand's movements from the camera platform's movements.

Even more involved steadicams include an iso-elastic arm + vest, so the camera is literally hands-free and floating, while the entire body movements are isolated from the camera.

We have the handheld type steadicam at work and I love using it, this guy is my idol: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3f3mUs7rS1I

[–]elclark94 10 points11 points ago

Whenever somebody talks about fulcrums, I always think of horcrux. I don't know why. They aren't even that similar sounding.

[–]PriestmanX 9 points10 points ago

I think of Fulgrim. Son of the Emperor of Mankind.

[–]Diggertron5000 54 points55 points ago

Talented? He's only holding down A.

[–]Seto_Sora 20 points21 points ago

no way man. Did you see that badass move at the end where he clearly let go of "A" and blended into that crowd. It was amazing!

[–]TheTehzz 27 points28 points ago

Behind the scenes is actually interesting. You should check it out.

[–]DrRedApple 27 points28 points ago

[–]opie2 3 points4 points ago

He's amazing. I wonder how many times he had the cops called on him when they were filming this....

[–]Captainpanda55 0 points1 point ago

I was going to say, this really doesn't look difficult.

[–]silentkill144 0 points1 point ago

Idk, the guy is good, but the video makes it so much more dramatized, and he only does a few higher skill things. Although it is sick to see parkor done in an AC suit.

[–]Ishaiah 2 points3 points ago

I can tell you right the fuck now it has absolutely nothing to do with talent and everything to do with hard work. Attributing his skill to talent is insulting.

[–]triadnowords 8 points9 points ago

This looks like it was filmed in Salt Lake City. The little creek in the shopping center towards the end of the video is part of City Creek mall in downtown SLC....very cool stuff.

[–]eco_was_taken 6 points7 points ago

Yep. The section in the gif is from the library.

[–]mkhpsyco 3 points4 points ago

yeah, these guys are from Salt Lake area.

[–]Ackilles 3 points4 points ago

The camera guy lives in Utah (does all the work for Lindsey Stirling) so ya probably all of it is there

[–]internetexplorerftw 6 points7 points ago

Actually made me fire up brink one more time.

[–]ace9213 6 points7 points ago

1:01 was my favorite move. Not nearly as complicated as some of this others but the shear badassery look of it gets my approval. He is like a freakin cheetah.

[–]Gimme_Some_Sunshine 6 points7 points ago

Watched the a few videos from the rest of his channel. "World's Largest Rope Swing" literally gave me chills and made my scared-of-heights-and-freefall-self want to cry...with joy. Not to mention sick musical choices.

[–]makesureimjewish 4 points5 points ago

I'd play that game

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

At the best of times, I can walk almost walk in a straight line. This guy is amazing.

[–]Cr3stfallen 2 points3 points ago

HARDCORE PARKOUR

[–]Comahawk 43 points44 points ago

It really does remind me of Assassin's Creed... Especially the first part, when you try to jump down the stairs to move faster, but Ezio/Altair decide you wanted to jump onto the fucking wall for some reason. After that, you panic a bit and flip around on the wall trying to unhinge him, to have him jump randomly onto a stair case, onto a railing, and then fall off. Yep, Assassin's Creed in a nut shell.

[–]B0M85H311 115 points116 points ago

Is it bad Im more impressed by the camera work?

[–]AwkwardTurtle 45 points46 points ago

You'll enjoy the behind the scenes video then.

[–]M4ttd43m0n 15 points16 points ago

my thoughts exactly when I was watching the full video

[–]LinuxUser4Life 2 points3 points ago

We need a cameramanshipporn subreddit.

[–]SymphonicStorm 38 points39 points ago

"Pfft, I could do that."

-Five minutes later-

"Oh God, why is there so much blood?!"

[–]throwaway235711 763 points764 points ago

That looked very unimpressive...

[–]legoalert 424 points425 points ago

[–]Charun86 141 points142 points ago

HOLT SHIT!

[–]MegalomaniacFM 139 points140 points ago

[–]SuperBeast4721 3 points4 points ago

My sun.. It's fading. It's dark. Oh so dark..

[–]jessumsthecunt 43 points44 points ago

Now its like Prince of Persia

[–]Deimos56 50 points51 points ago

"No, wait, that's not what happened..."

[–]jacobbsny10 22 points23 points ago

Best excuse for infinite lives ever.

[–]evantgervais 119 points120 points ago

Why not just run down the stairs? It would be quicker.

[–]Devon64327 245 points246 points ago

Parkour is the art of moving through an urban environment as quickly and efficiently as possible. Free runners are just parkourists that like to show off.

[–]andyface 63 points64 points ago

So good to know there's other people out there that know the difference.

[–]Zalbu 32 points33 points ago

Most traceurs do.

[–]skepticalDragon 42 points43 points ago

I feel like you just made up that word.

[–]Zalbu 29 points30 points ago

No, a traceur is a person who does parkour. And did you just quadruple-post?

[–]skepticalDragon 25 points26 points ago

...maybe...

[–]phenomenomnom 3 points4 points ago

most posteurs-à-quatre do.

[–]Mohavor 17 points18 points ago

Only a suspecteur would say that.

[–]latticusnon 0 points1 point ago

Parkour is not about being efficient. Unless you are using time efficiency in which case you are being redundant.

I'm not sure I've seen much parkour, but other than jumping over the occasional short wall running around obstacles will always be faster and more efficient.

[–]VadersGonnaVade 12 points13 points ago

yeah, the whole video is largely filled with him doing more parkour tricks, and less stuff that would actually be useful in an escape kind of setting, but it's still pretty cool and the guy is still pretty talented. The gif really doesn't do it justice.

[–]kolossal 34 points35 points ago

Seriously, I probably wouldn't be able to do that, but it was still very unimpressive to me.

[–]crotchcritters 19 points20 points ago

Parkour, the internet sensation of 2004.

[–]I_need_time_to_think 29 points30 points ago

"The goal is to get from point A to point B as creatively as possible so technically they are doing parkour, as long as point A is delusion and point B is the hospital."

[–]BeAtheistItsFun -1 points0 points ago

Parkour is getting from point a to point b in as straight a line as possible by going over and under obstacles instead of around. Has nothing to do with creativeness

[–]NotEntirelyUnlike 5 points6 points ago

Cough Quotation.

[–]catpirates 2 points3 points ago

It's a quote from The Office nigga

[–]Mr_Godfree -3 points-2 points ago

dude, watch the whole video...

[–]PretendCasual 6 points7 points ago

The video makes this gif look pathetic. The gif is sped up to make it look more impressive.

[–]TheIndieArmy 109 points110 points ago

Don't bother. It's not very good either as far as parkour videos go. I think people are just blinded by the fact they are dressed up as Ezio Altair. The camera work is the most impressive things of the video, but the parkour talent is very beginner. That's understandable though considering this project was done by a film-maker and not a parkour performer.

Oh, I also couldn't get past the fact that he looks like a hunchback when he's running.

[–]pooterpon 30 points31 points ago

It's that most of reddit can't do it and they exaggerate a bit about how talented the guy is. Compared to stuntmen I've seen before, this isn't enough to say this guy should be a stunt guy forever.

[–]NewClouds 13 points14 points ago

In the "Behind The Scenes" video(it's posted in this thread somewhere), the man dressed up as the character claims that he's mimicking the character's original movement within the video game.

[–]Surfurguy 13 points14 points ago

Which is complete bullshit. Half of the clips in the video involve him doing pointless flips, which are never done in Assassin's Creed.

[–]Ravek 12 points13 points ago

He wishes. Altair's movements require immense amounts of balance and strength.

And they look elegant. Unlike this gif. There's also no flashiness to them, while this guy seems to put an unnecessary flourish in there as much as he can.

[–]meeeeoooowy 0 points1 point ago

Altair's movements require immense amounts of balance and strength

Because you know...because...video game characters should be compared to IRL people? I don't think you realize how silly this sounds...

[–]Ravek 14 points15 points ago

Have you read the thread you're posting to?

the man dressed up as the character claims that he's mimicking the character's original movement within the video game.

It's this guy himself making the comparison, and you're telling me that I shouldn't ...

[–]sinner_di 10 points11 points ago

If I may be a bit of a pedant, the video is a depiction of freerunning, not parkour.

[–]solargatorade 5 points6 points ago

Ah, politics... ruining even the most noble of human pursuits.

[–]Kanoa 8 points9 points ago

YES. SOMEONE ELSE WHO CARES. People running parkour don't do random flips off of walls while they're running. They run faster. Parkour is the art of movement. Freerunners are urban gymnasts trying to get points for cool tricks.

[–]Nightbynight 8 points9 points ago

Seriously. LOOK AT ME DO THIS FLIP WHICH ADDS 10 SECONDS TO MY RUN AND MAKES NO SENSE.

[–]Tfish 2 points3 points ago

It looks a lot more interesting than just running down the stairs dangerously fast though.

[–]RafTheKillJoy 4 points5 points ago

Thank you for stating that, hopefully the Hivemind won't censor you with downvotes.

[–]Nightbynight 2 points3 points ago

Not parkour.

[–]lightinside 27 points28 points ago

Can I please have your knees.

[–]MasonTea 39 points40 points ago

Hey, That's the Salt Lake Library where I live, dope.

[–]Seilgrank 130 points131 points ago

Are you a book?

[–]rq60 60 points61 points ago

No response... probably checked out.

[–]CaptainMoroni 4 points5 points ago

Maybe he's watching the UofU vs BYU football game. It's all we have these days.

[–]PartyFarStar 2 points3 points ago

I really was thinking it looked like SLC. I live there too. Kinda weird seeing.

[–]pineapplesmasher 12 points13 points ago

It would be a lot cooler if he didn't have so many superfluous actions. The whole point in Assassins Creed of pulling off that cool stuff is that it makes you faster or gets you to different locations. This guy is doing like... street ballet or something... I don't even know...

[–]Muffanzo 5 points6 points ago

Am I the only one who noticed that most of those moves went nowhere?

[–]Anal_Angst 22 points23 points ago

As a traceur some of the comments on this thread about my hobby make me cringe. Apparently reddit is full of parkour masters now. Let me tell you this, most things are harder than they look.

[–]66xsseldoG 4 points5 points ago

Traceur here as well.

He's a great free runner, but his flow needs improvement. That's all anybody could ever criticize. Especially the vast majority of redditors whom cannot lift their own body weight.

[–]carlotta4th 5 points6 points ago

They actually said in the behind the scenes that they were trying to imitate the actual game as much as possible. So it may seem imperfect, but it was done that way intentionally.

[–]sethicles 147 points148 points ago

It just looks really stupid... the first half of the gif is him wasting time jumping around like an idiot when he could just run down the stairs

[–]StartlingRT 118 points119 points ago

There's an invisible person running up the stairs at him

[–]BadAdvice101 50 points51 points ago

Exactly... just imagine bad guys trying to capture/kill him like in the game, and suddenly this becomes not so stupid.Imagination

EDIT: He even does a kick into a guys chest after he falls from the ledge.

[–]stevegcook 16 points17 points ago

like in the game?

[–]BadAdvice101 31 points32 points ago

[–]SOPA_NO 21 points22 points ago

It's called freerunning, or tricking. It's supposed to be flashy, not efficient.

[–]HappyAssassin 11 points12 points ago

not efficient.

I thought one of the principles of parkour/freerunning was to move from point A to point B in the most efficient manner possible?

[–]randomsnark 36 points37 points ago

Parkour is about efficiency of movement. Tricking is about looking cool. Freerunning is Parkour + Tricking.

It's worth noting that the founder of Parkour, David Belle, does Freerunning a lot. He just won't claim that the flashy fun bits are actual parkour - they're just fun. It's not about animosity between the two, just precision of language.

[–]HappyAssassin 4 points5 points ago

Thanks for clearing that up

[–]Roboticide 46 points47 points ago

Yeah, but he's jumping around like an idiot in such a fashion that most of us are probably incapable of doing, and having fun doing so.

Sooo stupid...

[–]Castigar2000 11 points12 points ago

Bitch please, that's how I descend the staircase every morning. The 20-foot drop is just endangering your ankles.

[–]ILIKECAPSLOCK 22 points23 points ago

It's just someone free running. The only difference is his jacket.

[–]notsurewhatiam 1 point2 points ago

^ Downvote here if you're a neckbearded gamer.

[–]originalkitten 6 points7 points ago

Does anyone else love just sitting watching someone else play AC? My kids laugh cause I don't play it but I can sit for hours watching. I just love the smoothness of te graphics and Altair. I do digital art so I do have a side interest but I just can't help watching it. I'm kinda glued to this gif too :S

[–]Niqulaz 4 points5 points ago

My girlfriend demands that I play Assassin's Creed from time to time, so she can just zone out and watch while I mess around on walls and rooftops.

[–]flexytev 3 points4 points ago

What amazes me is that at a point in time a larger percentage of people could actually move around like this naturally. I look over 20 foot drops into water and I "nope out."

[–]SterlingArcherr 5 points6 points ago

The funny thing about this video is that the cameraman is able to keep up by just walking down the stairs

[–]o0eagleeye0o 6 points7 points ago

While parkour in general is cool, I think that it's only fascinating when the video is something that would be amazingly useful in a real life situation.

[–]Popzagon 5 points6 points ago

still waiting to see a video of an actual on foot chase between someone that can parkour and a cop.

[–]SOPA_NO 11 points12 points ago

I know a guy that does parkour, he was asked to come in and test out some cops. He didn't have a video but said it was hilarious.

[–]BadArtStudent 3 points4 points ago

There are two ways it could have been hilarious, which one was it?

[–]Riku98523 14 points15 points ago

He's moving too fluidly and fast to be from the Assassins creed series.

[–]beer0clock 7 points8 points ago

Mediocre parkour + Assassins Creed type costume = awesome parkour ?

[–]TranceDotA 9 points10 points ago

Don't get me wrong, I can't do what he's doing; but from a parkour stand-point, he's really not that impressive.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x98jCBnWO8w

The camera work isn't nearly as good, but his skill is much higher.

[–]Jetton 3 points4 points ago

Shitty title.

[–]Jonny_Watts 2 points3 points ago

I think most non-obese redditors would be able to perform that if they grew the balls to.

[–]fhoosh 2 points3 points ago

The camera man kept up just by walking down the stairs.

[–]mfgames[S] 3 points4 points ago

I got this gif from here or the source is

[–]Sentient_Waffle 3 points4 points ago

Doesn't really seem to make him any faster..

[–]avery52 0 points1 point ago

WTF is this title supposed to fucking mean? And fuck you faggots for upvoting this shit.

[–]iSynister 0 points1 point ago

Or an assassin...

[–]TheSethT -1 points0 points ago

Props to both the guy and the cameraman. Great gif, and the full video is even better.

[–]Zermerus 1 point2 points ago

Dammit Ezio, can't you take the stairs like a normal person?

[–]SmackANoob 0 points1 point ago

that wasn't even the best part of the video

[–]Combicritter 1 point2 points ago

I was waiting for him to assassinate someone. I am dissapointed.

[–]prostateExamination 0 points1 point ago

looked like the cameraman could keep up AND keep the camera still...hmm looked flashy and unpractical.

[–]Batgasm 0 points1 point ago

ALTIAR! NO!

[–]subaru86GT 0 points1 point ago

skillz

[–]DryApplejohn 0 points1 point ago

With this gif, he will be...

[–]Ronkerjake 0 points1 point ago

He's just kinda jumping around..

[–]Oni-Warlord 0 points1 point ago

This guy also showed up in old school vs new school.

[–]s2upid 0 points1 point ago

this whole thread is full of 6/10 would not bang memes.

[–]mistamutt 0 points1 point ago

[–]0311 1 point2 points ago

I could do all of this stuff. ...just much, much slower.

[–]Semajal 0 points1 point ago

Makes me wonder if someone has done something like this in Mirrors Edge costume

[–]AyoItzE 0 points1 point ago

It really didn't look like much. =/

[–]SulliverVittles 0 points1 point ago

He's really good though he likes to do a bunch of silly flips. :\ When he isn't running up to a wall and doing a backflip, it is very impressive.

[–]rmalik007 0 points1 point ago

Looks like king of persia to me

[–]4eva_lone 0 points1 point ago

Ronnie shalvis is amazing he used to do stuff in my neighborhood!!

[–]elman8155 0 points1 point ago

this makes me feel like an assassin's creed movie would be fucking epic.

[–]Hiding_In_Sight 1 point2 points ago

Anyone else notice that the camera guy got to the point at the stairs where he jumps off at the same time as the Assassin?

[–]Cron3459 2 points3 points ago

Holy shit thats the salt lake city library and I'm sitting here right now!!!

[–]loinsafire 1 point2 points ago

Meeeeeeehh

[–]walken4life 0 points1 point ago

By forever, you mean until he blows his knees out. They can only take so much jumping onto concrete.

[–]1san 0 points1 point ago

for when the walking on stairs animation is just too frustrating

[–]ToastyRaichu 0 points1 point ago

reminds me of all those hours practicing wall jumps in Super Smash Bros Melee

[–]Gikas77 0 points1 point ago

The first jump seemed very unnecessary

[–]the_tippy 0 points1 point ago

hardcore parkour

[–]OcarinaOfPie 0 points1 point ago

Cazzo! Every time he runs by, he knocks my wooden crate out of my arms. I take the time to rebuild it, he does it again!

This guy is a real tool.

[–]lavitzSlambert -1 points0 points ago

Parkour is so much better. Who cares about pointless flips.

[–]i_pk_pjers_i 0 points1 point ago

I wasn't really that impressed - until I saw the ending. Damn.

[–]BiggieB36 1 point2 points ago

I mean, the title is terrible

[–]XiamTheFox 0 points1 point ago

Lol reminds me of Old School VS New School

[–]kloraseptix -2 points-1 points ago

I'm REALLY impressed by some of his speed in a lot of those moves. I suspect he has gymnastic training, because a lot of times he'll come out of aerials or even rolls with a "stick" instead of a smooth transition into a run.

[–]glitterbones 0 points1 point ago

stuntmen would make excellent criminals ..

[–]brian_diener 1 point2 points ago

devinsupertramps videos are some of the best on youtube

[–]LoneSkeptic 0 points1 point ago

This guy has nothing on Damien Walters!

[–]Varnocan 2 points3 points ago

Holy hell that's my city's library....

[–]ara_p 1 point2 points ago

[–]Zepppster 0 points1 point ago

He is a stunt guy...

[–]WateryPenisButter -1 points0 points ago

Doesn't look that hard. Looks like he was flailing his arms as he jumps everywhere.

[–]Igorminous 0 points1 point ago

Assassin's Creed 4: Templar Hideouts are replaced by shady looking parking garages.

[–]GunRaptor 0 points1 point ago

This has got to become a movie now....

[–]heyyoudvd 0 points1 point ago

Wow, AC3 has better graphics than I thought!

[–]KarnakWolfe 0 points1 point ago

OH god I want to do this so bad. Where do I learn how to do stuff like this?!

[–]theroarer 1 point2 points ago

Does anyone have a link to the documentary where it talked about the history and philosophy of ACTUAL parkour? It featured this black girl who was just starting, and her learning the basics of letting go.

I for the life of me cannot find it, and I would love to use it when countering people who talk about parkour as this, "flashy and excessive showing off".

[–]tih5h0 0 points1 point ago

By the way, thanks for mentioning that your post is a GIF. Minor detail, but nevertheless appreciated. (wish it was SOP for all appropriate posts...)

[–]yemd 0 points1 point ago

parkour is great.

[–]Malagate 0 points1 point ago

this would be a lot cooler if he didn't dress up like an idiot. Whole thing has way too much of a forever alone vibe to me.

[–]The_Dacca -1 points0 points ago

Freddyw everybody.

[–]vinunleaded0301 0 points1 point ago

could be that 4 years in the infantry fucked my legs up pretty good. I cant see how he did the last jump without ruining his ankles

[–]TheElPistolero 1 point2 points ago

The athleticism and flips are all pretty basic stuff. IE if you can run up a wall and do a backflip, you're already athletic enough to add a twist to it. What IS impressive is the cajones involved with the heights, and that one jump where he does a flip over that gap onto the skinny stream bed edge thing. Hope he was wearing ankle braces.

[–]DrunkDialtotheDevil 1 point2 points ago

This may just be the most bad ass thing I've ever seen. I just became pregnant... and I'm a man.

[–]Thrye 1 point2 points ago

devinsupertramp! The soundtracks he chooses do his videos such justice.

[–]idiotdidntdoit 0 points1 point ago

Love the camera move, but not his stunt moves.

[–]koredom -2 points-1 points ago

you know what i do hate? when stuntmen do needless moves, such as the first jump he makes. why not just use shortcuts and be fast?

[–]Obaisacake 0 points1 point ago

[–]lalondtm 0 points1 point ago

Lets see him do that with the same fluidity in a new area he's never been before

[–]monksyo 0 points1 point ago

If they made an Assassins creed film with good director and utilised a lot of free runners - Could be epic!

[–]heh_wut 0 points1 point ago

that last bit must've done a number on his knees...

[–]CGord 0 points1 point ago

The first jump made me chuckle. Would love to see a second one just run down the stairs and beat him.

[–]TireTame -1 points0 points ago

The funny thing is that doing this in game would be completely pointless

[–]upq700hp 0 points1 point ago
