That's how I feel as a Muslim when I miss Star Trek: The Next Generation.

[–]Aidinthel 24 points25 points ago

More like "how I feel as a human being", I'd say...

[–]verrukt 13 points14 points ago

Well, people are being blamed as Muslims so his title is fitting.

[–]TheLobotomizer 10 points11 points ago

There's a lot of overlap.

[–]slowwwwwwwwww 15 points16 points ago

I was more shocked at the response from that group of Muslims in Australia. Gets awfully difficult to empathize with Muslims when even the ones in western nations are calling for beheadings.

[–]TheNoize 1 point2 points ago

It's in the damn book they are told to study in order to be good muslims and get to the virgins in the afterlife. What did you expect?

The only real solution is to end religion altogether. If people want to worship divine spirits and prophets, they can! In a secured, padded cell, under supervision of psychiatrists.

[–]Silverwolf90 3 points4 points ago

Oh my god (<- is this gonna piss you off too?).

As an atheist and fellow ent who likes to read the various religious subreddits, fuck you.

You always talk about evidence and fact but most of your posts lack both. You never back up anything you have to say and generally resort to insults. You make it more difficult for people to try and engage our ideas and theories on a legitimate level. You are bad for atheism the same way these Islamic extremists are bad for people trying to understand Islam.

This guy also likes to troll r/republican.

This is not the behavior of an ent.

[–]TheNoize 0 points1 point ago

If you have issues, please point out specifically where in my claims I lack evidence and factual support. I'll always make sure to study the subject again and understand where I was wrong. Sorry for pointing out the irony, but what you just did was technically trolling. So I guess we're both guilty of doing it. And that's fine. Trolling doesn't hurt anyone.

[–]Silverwolf90 -1 points0 points ago

The difference is you're being a dick, and I'm trying to call you out on being dick so that you stop.

Not that I think you will stop, but seeing as you seem to have similar interests as mine (guitar, audio, trees, webdev) I don't think you represent any of those communities in a positive light.

[–]TheNoize 0 points1 point ago

OK then that's different. I'm just being too aggressive for your taste.

Please don't accuse me of not having evidence to back up my claims, if your problem is just the way I'm presenting them. Your attack on my post is not exactly positive for the communities you mentioned either... :/

I wish we responded in a more modern way.

[–]mehr_bluebeard 1 point2 points ago

It is deeper than just responding in a more modern way. It is about the sorry conditions of the leadership in Islamic nations. And these behaviors by some Muslims should be a wake-up call to the others.

[–]timmyak 0 points1 point ago

there is nothing particularly modern about being sensible

[–]wgardenhire 2 points3 points ago

I can well imagine, and my heart goes out to you. I pray that God may grant you peace and grace.

What frustrates me the most is that these so-called “Muslims” are dragging Islam through the mud. Everything taking place in the Middle East is definitely not a true representation of Islam. It is one thing to say you follow a certain religion and another to actually practice it. The violent protests and killings achieved nothing. The Middle East is falling behind due to lack of education, which is hindering progress and certain freedoms. Ignorance is rampant throughout these regions. They don’t know the first thing about Islam; so, to say the religion is the stimulus for these hideous crimes is ridiculous. The motivations of these people isn’t religion… its ignorance and arrogance which translates itself into something dangerous. And the leaders of these nations are not the bearers of Islam… rather eerie examples of what power and greed can reduce people to. Everyone in a position to do or say something is using religion to benefit themselves and only themselves. Whether those means involve causing a revolution or killing innocent people. This is by no means a justification!

That's a "No True Scotsman" argument.

The Middle East is a falling behind due to lack of education, which is hindering progress and certain freedoms.

The Middle East is behind because of its repressive political structure and social institutions; the mosque being a very influential organization.

The motivations of these people isn’t religion Of course it isn't. Religion is just a convenient excuse for political groups to galvanize their supporters.

[–]omikawi -1 points0 points ago

How exactly is a mosque influential? For example two Grand Muftis of al-azhar stated that female circumcisison was not part of Islam. The number of cases didn't go down at all for the people doing it because of Islam.

[–]Fenrir 1 point2 points ago

Particular Muftis may not be able to wield direct control over people's actions, but Islam is a powerful social and political institution throughout the Middle East.

the Azhar is among the highest authority in Islam today! People in the ME are vastly uneducated Egypt has a 43% illiteracy rate

I posted this comment as to why this kind of things only happens in Islam

Very simple. Your definition of uneducated comes with: access to public schooling, easily available libraries, and general safety. My definition of uneducated comes with: complete illiteracy to the point of not recognizing letters, constant worries of food supply, lack of medicinal care of the most basic form, rampant street crime as it is the only way to secure an income, and most importantly complete isolation from the outside world where there only source of info is aforementioned "wise man" who can easily say (and have said) "America is continuing its war on Islam on Muslims through countless government funded attacks on mind and body"or "America's corruption is why Egypt is in this position today" or "America is actively killing your Palestinian brethren" and obviously there is no way for the "other side" to show their point of view. While the majority in America have access to Muslims like some of us here on r/islam to show that the religion isn't as violent as Wahabis make it seem there is no one in Egypt to show the run of the mill Falahi that Americans have their own problems and are not plotting everyone moment to dominate the entire middle east and wipe out all aspects of Islam.

So in essence your a little right but ultimately Islam isn't the main reason for the lack of education in the ME today. Its how people use it.

[–]veritas8911 2 points3 points ago

I may be wrong, but it kind of reminds me of the times during the crusades. At that time people were uneducated and most could not read so whatever a priest (or basically someone that could read) told them was in the Bible they believed. Of course they can read, but their views are tremendously distorted due to a lack of knowledge/education.

[–]Waage83 0 points1 point ago

It might even be worse.

Egypt and Tunisia both have BIG turism industry that was hurt in uprising's agaisnt the old regimes.

Tunisia was starting to recover and Egypt was still deep in the dumb's, but not as deep.

These Riots make it less likely that tourism will recover and that there will be more investment in these countries to bring in wealth. Something they all need.

The longer you make Egypt into a un-attractive vacation spot the more money will go to other places. SO not only did they manage to make them self look like fools they also manged to help make it harder for there country to come out of the economic slumps they are in.

[–]mehr_bluebeard 1 point2 points ago

Please look at the bright side. These problems must be a motivation for Muslims to try to get out of the conditions they are in.

[–]annata 2 points3 points ago

[–]shurf 0 points1 point ago

Its really hard to digest. The worst part is that they think they're right and these riots are perfectly justified. It really put things in perspective for me. I had no idea how many Muslims out there never delved beyond the surface of the deen to learn just how peaceful we were taught to act and behave. It lowered my expectations of most Middle Eastern inhabitants immensely.

[–]mehr_bluebeard 2 points3 points ago

So much stupidity.

[–]TheNoize 2 points3 points ago

Stupidity? Why? At least they're not hurting anyone.

Real stupidity is killing innocent people over a religious character. So hooray for freedom of speech. Islam deserves to be laughed at, just like any religion that supports killing of non-believers. http://www.reddit.com/r/DrawMohammed/

[–]alziron -1 points0 points ago

do not generalize nothing hapining in Middle East just few hundred maybe less in tow or 3 countries

[–]mehr_bluebeard -1 points0 points ago

It is a warning sign. Unfortunately Muslims have been ignoring these warning signs for many years.

[–]TheNoize 0 points1 point ago

Unfortunately, I think it's safe to generalize.

If people around the world are scared of being exploded or beheaded for drawing a stupid cartoon depiction... it's pretty safe to generalize about the religious-based madness that started that tendency, sorry :/

[–]Duckface400 -1 points0 points ago

I feel for you. -all jews everywhere, except for the fuck who made that video and the fucks who funded it. We don't endorse shit like that.

[–]FlapJackDickPants -1 points0 points ago
