I saw a different video of this same drill a while back. The last guy misses throwing the bomb in the hole, but the explosion still comes from inside. They're just holding a dummy, whether they know it or not is another thing.

If I were doing that and didn't know we were using a dummy, when the "bomb" didn't go down the hole, I would.

Actually..It's a live explosive sack...The Chinese military uses it as some sort of trust/fortitude training. Here's the link.

Hmm, I guess in some cases they may not use live ones...However, the commentary in the video, word for word translation did state that they 'lit the explosive sacks'

Actually if you look closely, it goes into a smaller hole into the ground which I'm going to guess leads into the bigger hole.
