It's actually a good thing that their ears can flip back like this. Drop eared dogs often get infected ears because of the lack of air that gets in there to dry out moisture and such.

I usually flip my dog's ears back while he's sleeping. Just to air that shit out and make sure he's all good.

I was a veterinarian once. Most dogs are born head first and with dachshunds this sets the factory setting on the ears flipped open. Many dogs are born feet first which sets the ears in the downward setting. Consult your dachshund's maintenance manual to determine it's original factory settings.

Was buying a dachshund with wife and daughters. (3/4 dachshund, 1/4 border collie). On the way home, one daughter said she was so glad we didn't get the one with the inside out ears. It was in fact precisely that one we bought, but we flipped the ears back to the starting position. RIP Sniff, only got 2 years with him.

They never seem to care when their ears are flipped back, but they do seem to appreciate it when you flip it back. I think both of my dachshunds look like little rats when their ears are back.
