Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

Yeah - they get paid per lead (PPA, pay per acquisition) which may vary from deal to deal. Some require that the lead signs up for a newsletter, some may require more info (phone number/address), some may require an actual purchase. The amount paid out per acquisition varies. And, of course, the aim is to make it "subtle".

redd.it is just a URL shortener for reddit links/posts. They're using the reddit toolbar to encapsulate the "http://www.chacha.com/gallery/4552/facts-about-cavities" link - and by doing so they hope to make you think it's a "legit" reddit post. It's surprisingly subtle, but the reddit audience is too savvy and clued up to fall for it.

Shouldn't you not be able to encapsulate 3rd party links that are not reddit inside a reddit shortener?

That seems like something that should be worked on so people (like me) don't think reddit is approving of this sort of thing.

Sure - if they turned off the toolbar entirely it would prevent this sort of iframe "trust-jacking" attack. It's hard, every feature that a site like reddit introduces has the potential for abuse.

Because Spider-Man is widely known for his love of allegorical *Laissez-faire literature. The government funding for the lab he worked at inevitably lead to the radioactive spider that bit him, which lead to the events that caused the death of his uncle. It makes perfect sense really.

I got the feeling it was just that it was very relevant to Spiderman's story. He is very much an Atlas figure in that he's constantly helping people and getting shat on for it. His take on the book would be interesting. I doubt he'd agree with much, but I haven't read the comics (and why the fuck not, anyway?).

It's considered influential not exactly great. Seriously try reading through that beast, Rand was really not all that great at fiction, she's ham handed long winded, really one-note, and I'm pretty sure that repetition is the only literary technique she really knows how to use.

I've read pretty much all of Rand's books (the exception being a few of the books that are collections of essays, which I never could push myself to care much about). There's no reason people shouldn't read it. There's also no reason people shouldn't read The Communist Manifesto by Marx and Ingles, or The Prince by Machiavelli.

It's philosophy. Not necessarily good, and not necessarily right, but it's still interesting.

I recall it first being in The Dark Knight Returns (comic) referring to the 1940 Tyrone Power version, which makes sense for that time period. However, sometimes it's been the 1920 Douglas Fairbanks version. I suspect that given the time difference perhaps the earlier movie was established in a Golden Age Batman story.
