I don't like whiskey, but that made me want whiskey.

[–]pimpernel666 86 points87 points ago

I love whiskey, and that made me want some whiskey.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points ago

I am not a big drinker but when i do drink i prefer whiskey, it could be because i was born in TN and that's what i drank as a teen/early adult but i just love the taste.

[–]b00m -4 points-3 points ago

You're drinking bourbon...not whiskey

[–]JopHabLuk 10 points11 points ago

Bourbon is a type of whiskey

[–]mrbooze 1 point2 points ago

And Tennessee Whiskey is legally bourbon, which is I think what bOOm is referring to.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

Bourbon is a type of Whiskey.

It's still whiskey. Johnny Walker is technically a scotch whiskey but it still falls under whiskey and i have had many different kinds of whiskey and love it all.

[–]JopHabLuk 0 points1 point ago

Confusing scotch with whiskey. Bourbon, scotch are types of whiskey. It's very easy

[–]mrbooze 2 points3 points ago

Me? I assure you I am not confusing anything. Bourbon and scotch are types of whiskey, and Tennessee Whiskey is legally a bourbon under US law and NAFTA agreements.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

Last time i checked Jack, Walker and Makers is Whiskey. Scotch-Whiskey or Bourbon-Whiskey it doesn't matter.

It's still whiskey.

[–]HanktheIII 0 points1 point ago

Maker's is bourbon whisky, and delicious.

[–]glowtop 1 point2 points ago

try to use that knowledge in Kentucky, they may beg to differ.

[–]mrbooze 2 points3 points ago

Kentucky has a long history of differing with facts, but they are still facts.

[–]Undertow88 0 points1 point ago

Moonshine is a type of whiskey.

[–]WhiteGravy 4 points5 points ago

Man up.

[–]whiskey06 0 points1 point ago

I won't take it too personally. But you still cannot have me.

[–]Funkygeeman 57 points58 points ago

False- "wine is sunlight held together by water."- Galileo Whiskey is from the Gaelic "ouiske-ba," meaning "water of life."

[–]Garcia92 30 points31 points ago

False, Whiskey is sunlight held together by water...

[–]Gramma42ton 12 points13 points ago

If whiskey is sunlight held together by water, then why doesn't it glow at night?

Checkmate anarchists!

[–]hulagirl4737 72 points73 points ago

Because the sun is off at night, duh

[–]Pykoh 16 points17 points ago

Why does it make sense.

[–]HenkieVV 15 points16 points ago

Because whisky!

[–]chili_cheese_dog 3 points4 points ago

in a jar.

[–]Warlaw 1 point2 points ago

OH GOD TURN IT BACK ON

[–]x3tripleace3x -3 points-2 points ago

Then if whiskey is sunlight held together by water, why doesn't whiskey turn into water at night?

Checkmate <relate-able humorous clever noun!>

[–]reallycoolkid 2 points3 points ago

*checkmate alchemists

[–]stefan_89 0 points1 point ago

[–]Garcia92 0 points1 point ago

Oh, it does.. You just don't really drink Whiskey

[–]detritus87 3 points4 points ago

Close, lol. Uisce beatha. Pronunciation depends on the dialect, but I would pronounce it ooh-ish-ca vaha, or aish-ca vaha

[–]el___diablo 1 point2 points ago

I'd pronounce it 'ish-ka ba-ha'.

[–]detritus87 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, sounds good too. I have a habit of unintentionally aspirating words if it makes them sound nicer.

[–]mrbooze 0 points1 point ago

That's how I've heard the Clancy Brothers pronounce it on albums.

[–]DrMonkeyLove 1 point2 points ago

Borka borka borka, I have no idea what we're talking about anymore.

[–]Flagyl400 0 points1 point ago

Táimid ag caint faoi uisce beatha.

[–]linksfan 0 points1 point ago

Or uisge beatha, if you speak Scottish Gaelic

[–]detritus87 1 point2 points ago

Cool, never learnt any Scots gaelic...

[–]imatwork500 8 points9 points ago

Is that Black Rabbit in Greenpoint?

[–]LunchMasterFlex 2 points3 points ago

Yup! Hey, neighbor!

[–]imatwork500 2 points3 points ago

We should call them to see if we can get a reddit discount for whiskey.

[–]acslaterjeans 0 points1 point ago

I just walked by there the other day leaving the Pencil Factory!!

[–]pkdub 0 points1 point ago

PF > BR > Lulu's

[–]LunchMasterFlex 0 points1 point ago

PF = Smug hipsters. TBA > Lulu's > BR. Matchless and Manhattan Inn trump all.

[–]imatwork500 1 point2 points ago

Personally I think Oak & Iron and Diamond Bar are better than the ones you just mentioned. Nothing beats Habitat's Quiz Night though.

[–]LunchMasterFlex 0 points1 point ago

Habitat and Diamond are very solid. Headed to No Name tonight. See yous all there?

[–]ihateusedusernames 1 point2 points ago

It's TBD, faggotface.

Just kidding, neighbor.

But it really is TBD.

[–]LunchMasterFlex 0 points1 point ago

Thanks for the clarification, dicktits!

[–]michealn 6 points7 points ago

Then Scotch is like a solar flare!!!

[–]nycska 0 points1 point ago

I was going to say "golden hour" light, but ok solar flare works.

[–]Egress99 23 points24 points ago

Whiskey was invented by the Scots to keep the Irish from taking over the world.

[–]hells_cowbells 17 points18 points ago

Well, bagpipes were actually invented by the Irish and given to the Scots. They still haven't caught on to the joke yet.

[–]tomdarch 4 points5 points ago

As the descendent of someone who was taught to walk upright*, I nearly shot water out of my nose at that!

(* joke: "The wheelbarrow was invented to teach the Irish to walk upright.")

[–]hells_cowbells 0 points1 point ago

I have a wee bit of Irish heritage myself. My great grandfather stepped off the boat in the late 19th century.

[–]Meletus 4 points5 points ago

Whiskey was created by the Irish. The Scots (The Celtic ones at least) originated from Ireland and made a different type of Whiskey. Both have their moments IMO. Irish tends to be smoother and Scottish tends to a bit smokier.

[–]admiralwaffles 1 point2 points ago

Depends on the region in Scotland...Speyside all the way.

[–]EasyP 0 points1 point ago

Nothing like a good whiskey salt lick.

[–]Leaningthemoon 0 points1 point ago

Saw the pic and got jealous of the top commenter's karma...

WHY NOT ME?!

[–]rajonrondo 2 points3 points ago

"First, you take a drink, then the drink takes a drink, then the drink takes you."

-F Scott Fitzgerald.

[–]shaggorama 4 points5 points ago

You could say the same thing about basically all organic matter. Here's Feynman talking about fire and sunlight

[–]Sheepyhead 1 point2 points ago

That explains the LOST ending

[–]AstroMariner 0 points1 point ago

Are you telling me that the pool was filled with MacClutcheon (even though it was Scotch)? No wonder Jack was so happy.

[–]snowlemur 1 point2 points ago

There's a great quote from a character in a Neil Gaiman book along these lines.

"When one tastes it, I like to imagine one is tasting the sunlight of bygone days."

[–]mydogisarhino 0 points1 point ago

Does this mean if I stand in the sun long enough I'll eventually get drunk?

[–]MrMarblesTI 0 points1 point ago

Or if you drink enough whiskey you'll get a sunburn.

[–]mydogisarhino -1 points0 points ago

Seems to me like the only thing that would be worse than a sunburn would be a sunburn on the inside...good thing I'd be drunk so I wouldn't notice

[–]stefan_89 -1 points0 points ago

It's pretty funny how this would appear to be true.

[–]waxing_gibbons 0 points1 point ago

Everyone will love this at my next AA meeting.

[–]lukahnli 0 points1 point ago

That was a quote from the movie Bottle Shock. Though Steve Spurrier was talking about wine when he said it.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0914797/

[–]barf314 0 points1 point ago

He does go on to credit the proper source, too; that being Galileo Galilei.

[–]happyhourSF -1 points0 points ago

deep

[–]ka2m -1 points0 points ago

So Whiskey-Cola is an eclipse?

[–]EasyP 3 points4 points ago

No, it is an abomination.

[–]Sehs -1 points0 points ago

So does that mean that whiskey tastes like a rainbow? Further, does that mean that whiskey tastes like skittles?

I'm pretty sure the last whiskey I had didn't taste like skittles.

[–]sugarpackets -1 points0 points ago

Is that Black Rabbit in Greenpoint?

[–]rufioherpderp -1 points0 points ago

Ahhh yes. Good ol Vitamin W.

[–]spoatnik -1 points0 points ago

Great!

I'm alarmingly low on both.

[–]Morrimoto -1 points0 points ago

where was that taken? looks like my neighborhood in the east village.

[–]bluejams -1 points0 points ago

I KNOW WHERE YOU WALKED ONCE

[–]bbYd011 -1 points0 points ago

Whiskey is my spirit animal.

[–]Santander1 -1 points0 points ago

Mmm .... uisce beatha

[–]liarliarplants4hire -1 points0 points ago

[–]mindbleach -1 points0 points ago

If it was mixed with genius, why doesn't it taste like Irish whiskey?

[–]liarliarplants4hire -1 points0 points ago

It's all in the limestone water in KY. That's why we sell the barrels to scotch makers; sharing the wealth.

[–]leshake -1 points0 points ago

Grossly incandescent.

[–]splittle -1 points0 points ago

Is this in Seattle by Pikes Place?

[–]Vietnom -1 points0 points ago

"Wine will give you wisdom, beer will give you strength, but it's whiskey that's the water of life." - someone at a bar once

[–]portezbie -1 points0 points ago

Then why do I hate the sun the morning after a night of drinking too much whiskey?

[–]ThankGod4Karma -1 points0 points ago

...said Satan sanguinely.

[–]421625 -1 points0 points ago

That's why it burns the hell out of my throat! I thought it was just the plain fact that I had 5 ounces in my mouth and lit it on fire!

[–]FairieswithBoots 0 points1 point ago

DONT DOWNVOTE MEEEEE

[–]thermalfun 0 points1 point ago

False: Whiskey is Nitrogen held together by water. 0:40

[–]AlbertFlasher 0 points1 point ago

TIL....

[–]Mad_Max_Rockatansky 0 points1 point ago

This bar might be Black Rabbit. Is it?

[–]uisce 0 points1 point ago

I'm Uisce and I approve this message.

[–]Bukaj 0 points1 point ago

I feel like "solar flare" should be the name of a whiskey mix drink now.

[–]Peregrine7 0 points1 point ago

Whiskey, is water mefipulated with Nitrogen. Enjoyed by both the young and the old of our generation. SCIENCE!!!

[–]SansPoint 1 point2 points ago

Thanks Peregrine7. Thperegrine7.

[–]Mr_Big_Potatoes -1 points0 points ago

Apologies for being a pedantic shit (cos I don't like being a pedantic shit), but Whiskey is generally thought of as bourbon/Irish etc. If it is Scottish you are talking about then it's whisky. Source: I'm Scottish.

I really don't like the stuff, but I had a cask strength Dalwhinnie. It was the drink of the Gods!! I am now converted. It tasted like chocolate with a warm kick. Epic in all ways.

[–]ngmcs8203 -1 points0 points ago

As a whisky and bourbon lover from the states, you're right and exactly what I always say. Whisky isn't spelled with an 'e'. :)

[–]Mr_Big_Potatoes 1 point2 points ago

You sir, know your Whisky. As long as you leave your Johnny Walker alone. Every nation seems to drink it, except from the Scots. I'm sure that must mean something.

[–]el___diablo 1 point2 points ago

WHISKEY OR WHISKY ?

Can never remember which ?

Let me help ...

There is an 'e' in IrEland and AmErica. There is no 'e' in Scotland.

Applies to their respective whisk(e)ys.

[–]rarimapirate 1 point2 points ago

Not always so sunny, even though I love it. A joke told to me by my Navajo friend, I am from Northern Arizona.

"What is the difference between John Wayne and Jack Daniels?

Jack Daniels is still killing indians."

[–]mrbooze -1 points0 points ago

I like to think of it more as dusk dissolved in bliss.

[–]OKAH -1 points0 points ago

So many people typing Whiskey or Whisky without knowing the difference.

[–]E_lucas -1 points0 points ago

So a rainbow in a glass then?

[–]KrazyEyezKilla -1 points0 points ago

It's damn horrible is what it is, if I wanna get fucked up give me some Gin.

[–]mindbleach 1 point2 points ago

Even the nicest gin shouldn't be had straight.

[–]KrazyEyezKilla -1 points0 points ago

Tanqueray and apple juice is god like. Bless the wonderful barmaid who introduced me to it.

[–]callsyouaprick -2 points-1 points ago

Prick

[–]sartrecasm -1 points0 points ago

Incorrect: The defining part of whisky is the waste product of yeast, suspended within water. Everything else, (the color and taste), comes from the barrel within which the whisky was aged... I suppose you could argue that this is a product of photosynthesis and sunlight.

[–]cruiscinlan -1 points0 points ago

Incorrect I'm afraid. About half the taste comes from the raw spirit in particular the fusel oils and esters that in tiny quantities add flavour. The wood adds its flavours depending on what was held in the barrel previously (sherry etc.) through its interaction then also with the charcoal as a catalyst has its impact on the spirit.

[–]DannyInternets -1 points0 points ago

And much like sunlight, excessive amounts will disorient and make you vomit.

[–]Bikenutt -2 points-1 points ago

I feel the same way about good tequila.

[–]tomdarch -1 points0 points ago

You like different whiskey than I do. My whiskey is the condensation of a foggy bog peat fire that took some nearby grasses (and maybe a small tree) with it.

Citrus drinks are my idea of liquid sunlight.

[–]stefan_89 -1 points0 points ago

I think this revelation has potential.

Stefan: Well Dave, aren't you full of sunshine?

Dave: Hiccup Yup

[–]mluna785 0 points1 point ago

Whiskey is a sweater for the inside.

[–]manbearpig1204 -4 points-3 points ago

Drinking whiskey is like getting a bukkake-style golden shower from the gods, it's beautiful.

[–]levilarrington -3 points-2 points ago

Whiskey is a thousand fists holding hammers being held together by local laws.

[–]Bilibond -2 points-1 points ago

Is that why it burns so much?

[–]CaptainStrat -3 points-2 points ago

As a Scottish lass, the multiple uses of "whiskey" instead of "whisky" in this post disturbs me.

[–]T-Bone_The_Spider -3 points-2 points ago

It's an aqueous solution containing sunlight, actually.

[–]UnreachablePaul -3 points-2 points ago

The truth is, whiskey is a drink of fools.
