TIL Dinosaurs are delicious.

[–]webzter 97 points98 points ago

[–]SomeBlindGuy 5 points6 points ago

I love that you linked Hank Green :D

[–]Rainbow_Farter 0 points1 point ago

i came here to link that video too!

[–]danguro 2 points3 points ago

stop looking in my stomach!

[–]THISISDINOSAUR 1 point2 points ago

ಠ~ಠ

[–]SMAAASHING 140 points141 points ago

This is by far the best "STAHP" i've seen. :D

[–]TZ-13 188 points189 points ago

What a T-Rex probably actually looked like: http://i.imgur.com/ID2NP.jpg (Still badass, imo).

[–]word_nerd_mcgoo 219 points220 points ago

The colors and patterns are still just a wild-ass guess.

[–]evilpoptart 46 points47 points ago

Its still one of the coolest things I've seen.

[–]SeanNam 34 points35 points ago

Don't know about T-rex, but scientists do know the colour of some fossilised feathers.

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2010/01/100127-dinosaur-feathers-colors-nature/

[–]Vimsefreet 22 points23 points ago

Didn't they use they're feathers to stabilize themselves while assaulting prey. Like large wind buffers, to exhaust the prey from shaking.

[–]Thryck 25 points26 points ago

Doesn't change the fact we have no idea what colour they were.

[–]Vimsefreet 9 points10 points ago

Why am I being downvoted for a very popular scientific theory? Oh well.

They might've been green, who knows. There's many birds out there with magnifiscent colours also. Haven't they found any pigment residue to imply something?

[–]Resonations 2 points3 points ago

Only some tenuous ties to some durable phenomelanin and other brownish-yellow coloring.

[–]Vimsefreet 0 points1 point ago

But are these more durable over the ages than other pigment (indicators)?

[–]O-Face 2 points3 points ago

In fossilized bone?

[–]snarkinturtle 15 points16 points ago

No, in fossilized feathers, obviously.

[–]Vimsefreet -1 points0 points ago

Bingo.

The thing with science is that as long as you know the methods they can apply, somebody has checked it. As you point out. I believed someone would see some chemical compounds that would be a result of fossilized pigments, you knew that someone actually did it. Ah, science <3

[–]Packers91 0 points1 point ago

they have, see above post

[–]Packers91 0 points1 point ago

We're actually able to figure out some of the colors now due to melanosomes, which are organelles that contain pigment and determine the colors of fur and feathers. So far they've found white, black, red, purple and that iridescent raven color.

[–]deukhoofd 7 points8 points ago

[–]Vimsefreet 0 points1 point ago

I think I've also seen it in Jurassic park 2.

[–]DouchebagZoologist 1 point2 points ago

I've read that it was for thermoregulation.

[–]Vimsefreet 1 point2 points ago

Might have been both. Evolution tends to use things to the best. Probably an alternative version, but they're probably just as valid hypotheses.

[–]Pirateer 0 points1 point ago

Albino T-Rex?

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]niftyjack 2 points3 points ago

Yes, people know xkcd comics.

[–]Som12H8 22 points23 points ago

Even smaller arms? No masturbation for him.

[–]Naldaen 0 points1 point ago

They're the same size, just the feathers are bulky.

[–]upsidedownpantsless 16 points17 points ago

Some theorize that due to the large body mass of the T-Rex it probably didn't need feathers to help regulate it's body temperature.

[–]Gallifrasian 11 points12 points ago

It sure as hell didn't help them fly.

[–]MrMono1 1 point2 points ago

Says you.

[–]Naldaen 1 point2 points ago

Flying T-Rex is now the greatest thing ever.

[–]TooManyPixels 7 points8 points ago

They believe T-rex had feathers has an adolescent, subsequently molting as they neared adulthood (about 18 years of age)

[–]JoshuaIan 4 points5 points ago

giggety

[–]joeryanisaocelot 14 points15 points ago

Jurassic Park could have been so pretty.

[–]evilpoptart 11 points12 points ago

Just look forward to the remake. "Jurassic Park: Thanksgiving's Revenge!"

[–]camnui 5 points6 points ago

on acid maybe.....

[–]ReflexMan 16 points17 points ago

It's six feet, not meters.

How did you get that wrong...

You think the raptors in Jurassic Park were 18 feet tall?

[–]mattonreddit 49 points50 points ago

Because the image I'm referencing is a T-Rex which maxed out at 6 meters. I modified the quote to match the image.

[–]ReflexMan 79 points80 points ago

[–]SirSandGoblin 8 points9 points ago

this whole exchange made me smile, i dunno if i'm allowed to comment about something like that but i have so there.

[–]chao06 0 points1 point ago

Well, real Velociraptors were actually 6 feet long, not 6 feet tall. The movie called for big raptors, and the science people they brought on board were particularly concerned about that gap in factuality. Then during filming, significant remains of a Utahraptor were discovered, and they were like, "Eh, close enough."

[–]Tanniith 9 points10 points ago

Bawk bawk, motherfucker.

[–]shavin_high 2 points3 points ago

yep that is badass imo

[–]mattwaver 3 points4 points ago

Source? Thanks

[–]Ragnalypse 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, the predator probably had no reason to blend in with anything on earth.

[–]Triantaffelow 0 points1 point ago

In all honesty if it did that's way scarier. Look at those teeth.

[–]SirSandGoblin 1 point2 points ago

i feel like the artist has taken considerable artistic licence, pretty sure i've seen a trex skull and the teeth werent like that

[–]Triantaffelow 1 point2 points ago

Probably. I'm reserving judgment; don't know much about it myself. I know T-Rex probably didn't look like he does in Jurassic Park, but I'll go with that until I learn more about it.

I just figure a giant bird with black teeth and mostly white feathers thats around eighteen feet tall would be pretty crazy to see up close.

[–]SirSandGoblin 0 points1 point ago

It's not so much judgement as the fact that I have seen that the teeth don't look like that

[–]Fyretongue 0 points1 point ago

Yes, I'm certain that you having seen ONE means there is no room for variation.

[–]saremei 0 points1 point ago

Actually yes. If it is a significant deviation from the standard Tyrannosaurus Rex, then it is no longer considered the same creature. Hell we divide up animals today based on extremely small differences that you can't even tell by looking. Different dental makeup would certainly make it a different creature.

[–]SirSandGoblin 0 points1 point ago

i don't know where else i would get evidence for what a trex teeth look like other than looking directly at a trex's teeth, i have no idea how you have gotten so uppity about me looking at dinosaur teeth, how did it ever come to this, internet?

[–]deathbytray 0 points1 point ago

... probably actually...

definitely maybe

[–]mqduck 0 points1 point ago

"Probably actually" is not a contradiction.

[–]Gorillaz_Noodle -1 points0 points ago

Awesome.

[–]Harnellas 66 points67 points ago

His arms, they did not get more useful. :'(

[–]wellactuallyhmm 41 points42 points ago

They are wings now...

[–]moar_noaw 76 points77 points ago

Delicious chicken wings.

[–]trampus1 4 points5 points ago

I wonder if T-Rex arms tasted the same as chicken wings. There would probably be more meat on one of those than a whole chicken. And them drumsticks.

[–]7Snakes 4 points5 points ago

I'll take my T-Rex eggs scrambled.

[–]DouchebagZoologist 0 points1 point ago

That, is the most baller shit ever

[–]Battletooth 13 points14 points ago

That don't really work efficiently. I remember seeing chickens fly for like 3 seconds in a coop when I was little, but I don't know if I could really call that flight. Still pretty useless arms.

[–]Midlothianer 24 points25 points ago

Chickens can fly, but the most common varieties can't from lack of exercise and weight.

[–]Battletooth 10 points11 points ago

Yeah our chickens were little fatties when I was little. When they started running is when they were attempting to fly, but they never could get over the 4 foot tall fence. I always felt bad for them. :C

[–]Kalashnikov74 22 points23 points ago

And then you ate them.

[–]Battletooth 19 points20 points ago

But I cried the whole time!

(dm;hc)

[–]muhaku2 -2 points-1 points ago

Dwah! And people wonder why I do not eat meat anymore.

[–]AriBBCP 3 points4 points ago

i'd kill a cow for steak

[–]muhaku2 1 point2 points ago

A lot of people wouldn't, and it sucks a lot more if you raised them yourself. It is not the biggest reason I am a vegetarian, but it has helped me keep not eating meat a part of me for so long.

[–]SoiledSatchel 4 points5 points ago

So what you're saying chickens are the Americans of birds.

Sidenote I'm an American, chill it out.

[–]Gorillaz_Noodle -1 points0 points ago

So what was the T-rex before his body got so damn large? Is there a picture of that around?

[–]someguy945 0 points1 point ago

Feral chickens can fly.

[–]muhaku2 0 points1 point ago

So can wild turkeys, but I would love to see a butterball try to wing it.

[–]RNHdb25 87 points88 points ago

these Stahp submissions always get me

[–]double_O_status 165 points166 points ago

[–]mattonreddit 63 points64 points ago

[–]therumbox 30 points31 points ago

This is mine. The longer you look...

[–]otisramflow 5 points6 points ago

I have no idea what I'm supposed to be seeing.

[–]deathplus 10 points11 points ago

It's a girl named Becca inhaling smoke from a water pipe of some sort. Meanwhile the dog is very concerned about her participating in said activity.

[–]otisramflow 0 points1 point ago

Thank you, it was like one of those pics that are zoomed in super far and you're supposed to guess what it is. I was lost.

[–]therumbox 0 points1 point ago

Apparently it's one of, if not, the first stahp meme with bad formatting

[–]camnui 4 points5 points ago

.... who the fuck is this?

[–]RUN_BKK 9 points10 points ago

[–]imbapwnn00b 7 points8 points ago

Broken page? Can you upload to imgur?

[–]Levy_Wilson -3 points-2 points ago

It worked fine for me.

[–]ericshogren 10 points11 points ago

Then... can you upload to imgur?

[–]darpho 19 points20 points ago

[–]khavyer 1 point2 points ago

best

[–]FrailRain[S] 16 points17 points ago

ahahahahahaha

ahaha

ahahahaha

jolly good.

[–]the_girl 18 points19 points ago

My favorite: Cars, stahp

[–]TurboNerd 3 points4 points ago

Until next week where they are run into the ground.

[–]kalamawho 54 points55 points ago

Humorless biologist checking in to remind everyone that this is not how evolution actually works.

Edit: Also, chickens cannot speak English.

[–]snarkinturtle 13 points14 points ago

Cool. While we're at it, T. rex did not evolve into birds, it was another lineage of theropod dinosaurs. Birds were already flying around when T. rex were alive. Of course the terror birds didn't evolve into chickens either.

[–]CaptnAwesomeGuy 0 points1 point ago

Did they evolve into vultures?

[–]snarkinturtle 0 points1 point ago

I'm not sure if you mean T. rex or terror birds, but either way the answer is no.

[–]CaptnAwesomeGuy 1 point2 points ago

I meant terror birds, but thanks.

[–]the_girl 1 point2 points ago

what's a terror bird? that sounds awesome.

[–]OscarMiguelRamirez 8 points9 points ago

You must realize that the dinosaur is the one blaming evolution, don't look at us. He's the one who's stupid.

[–]Cognoggin 0 points1 point ago

I'm pretty sure they can type English though using hunt and peck, they seem to start a lot of conspiracy websites.

[–]goeraz -3 points-2 points ago

HEY! YOU ARE WRONG!!

chickens CAN actually speak fluent english, you just don't hear it, yeah!

[–]kaax 0 points1 point ago

Go on..

[–]Battletooth 0 points1 point ago

So far, chickens can only speak Japanese, Latin, and because of their close neighbors, they can sometimes speak broken Pig Latin.

[–]inappropriate_hugs 7 points8 points ago

To be fair the second one still looks pretty intense

[–]Johnny_Crab 2 points3 points ago

Theriznosaurus by the looks of it. Most probably a huge herbivore.

[–]Therizinosaurus 10 points11 points ago

Yep.

[–]FrailRain[S] 2 points3 points ago

6 months, he checks out.

[–]WrethZ 0 points1 point ago

A huge herbivore with meter long claws.

[–]DoubleJumps 5 points6 points ago

Plants were a little more badass back then.

[–]metalhead4 -1 points0 points ago

It was just easier to cut through the hemp stocks with their claws to get hiiiiigh.

[–]Kruglord 4 points5 points ago

[–]ireland1988 2 points3 points ago

I just spent hours watching this guys channel... good stuff.

[–]GiantWhaleCannon 3 points4 points ago

What are they complaining about? Chickens are dangerous. Just ask Link.

[–]mudflattop 12 points13 points ago

Related evolution rage: http://imgur.com/2xzGP

[–]thegreatvortigaunt 1 point2 points ago

A thousand evolutionary biologists cried out in anger at this rage comic.

[–]DaganballZ 1 point2 points ago

I laughed a little to loud at work because of this.

[–]TheLastBadger 1 point2 points ago

I wonder if dinosaurs tasted like chicken.

[–]narancs 1 point2 points ago

You think that's bad? Check out humans in the next few millenia.

[–]gordofrog 0 points1 point ago

Oh god, we'll evolve into chickens.

[–]mygpuisapickaxe 0 points1 point ago

But if it stopped they'd be extinct. D:>

[–]Derpizzle -1 points0 points ago

wat.

[–]mofrodo -1 points0 points ago

Someone actually made this... I would like to see the process documented.

[–]Fyretongue 0 points1 point ago

You must be great fun at parties...

[–]PolardOOd 0 points1 point ago

Now I'm not gonna be able to help but laugh when I visit my sister and see her chickens. All I'm going to see is that chicken in this thing yelling "STAHP!" when they run from me.

[–]DrDerpberg 0 points1 point ago

It looks like a smart joke got drunk and then clubbed in the back of the head with a beer mug. Nice.

[–]Eibhlin_Andronicus 0 points1 point ago

I just laughed at that more than I've laughed at anything I've seen on the internet in days. That was fucking awesome.

[–]SpaceCampDropOut 1 point2 points ago

Dinosaurs suck at spelling.

[–]Mr_Big_Potatoes 1 point2 points ago

Stahp. Hammahtime!!!

[–]altai779 0 points1 point ago

stop trying to make this happen, it's not going to happen

[–]Fyretongue 0 points1 point ago

Sceerd? A bit afeared are ye?

[–]Bloedbibel 0 points1 point ago

Had me cracking up. best stahp evr.

[–]Toxaris71 0 points1 point ago

Is that what is happening to rappers?

[–]M7600 1 point2 points ago

They had 165 million years to eat whatever they want. Now we eat them and their unborn children for breakfast lunch and dinner.

[–]crayolaface 0 points1 point ago

I am literally crying with laughter.

[–]BlueBird518 0 points1 point ago

So the most vicious predator on top of the food chain evolved itself into the one thing that gets eaten by the bucket loads? :P haha brilliant.

[–]H-Bar -1 points0 points ago

[–]Gerryoak 0 points1 point ago

If Chicken tastes amazing, imagine what Dinosaurs tasted like.

[–]Mystogan3 0 points1 point ago

I'd imagine they'd have really tough meat and skin or something :(

Actually there are some cultures out there that eat crocodile meat, that'd probably be similar to what dinos taste like.

[–]BiffSkiffer 0 points1 point ago

When/where did this stahp nonsense originate?

[–]devo00 0 points1 point ago

So.... Everything really does taste like chicken......

[–]skeddles 0 points1 point ago

The 3rd one was 7 feet tall and ate small mammals. You could ride one them.

[–]Chimpsanddip 0 points1 point ago

loved the comic, but cut off the memebase part at the bottom, youre making us redditors look sloppy... and like we stole from memebase...

[–]chaynes -1 points0 points ago

The fact that a t-rex evolved into a chicken REALLY makes me doubt evolution. How is being a chicken better than being a fucking giant ass killing machine?!

[–]Mystogan3 0 points1 point ago

T-rex did not specifically evolve into chickens, other more bird-like dinosaurs did.

[–]DontBanMeDaddy 0 points1 point ago

best reddit thing of last 17 days

[–]Rainbow_Farter 0 points1 point ago

fairly sure anything that large wouldn't have been able to evolve due to a certain catastrophic event, or am i getting my pre-history wrong?

[–]Therizinosaurus 1 point2 points ago

I find this offensive.

[–]DJPho3nix 2 points3 points ago

I am sorry that people missed your name (pictured in the second panel for those who don't get it) and probably downvoted you thinking you were a creationist finding evolution offensive. Also, this account was created 6 months ago, for those who would be so inclined to check.

[–]KlogereEndGrim 0 points1 point ago

Silly me went back to look at the picture again to see there was a Muhammed picture I'd missed.

[–]notsurewhatiam -1 points0 points ago

r/iam14andthisisfunny

[–]DiaDeLosMuertos -1 points0 points ago

The first one should have feathers too.

[–]BrittanyRenegade 1 point2 points ago

I have a legitimate question... Why is it that our lovely Internet society is so much against grammar mistakes that we down vote to oblivion the smallest spelling error... Yet shit like this makes the front page? It was funny, don't get me wrong. I just don't get the fucking Internet sometimes.

[–]Logue1021 0 points1 point ago

Yeah. I feel it would have been much more funny if everything was spelled correctly..... Maybe that's just me?

[–]Pharose 1 point2 points ago

Hate to be a bio-nazi but I'm pretty darn sure that birds did not evolve from tyrannosaurs, and probably not from any other large dinosaur. They most likely evolved from small raptor-like dinosaurs. All large animals died in the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction, so even the large bird in the third pic had humble beginnings.

However, anyone who think that birds can't be hugely intimidating has never heard of Gigantoraptor. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gigantoraptor

[–]ImmaTurtleBro -2 points-1 points ago

[–]metalhead4 0 points1 point ago

I still smiled...

[–]Flappyman -2 points-1 points ago

tironasorus reks pls

[–]ghastlyactions 0 points1 point ago

Pretty funny. Would have been a lot more funny and a lot less annoying without the completely unnecessary gibberish instead of, you know, WORDS to get the joke / point across.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]yellowpride 6 points7 points ago

That's what they said about alot...

[–]itskieran 0 points1 point ago

I think alot evolved from that dinosaur

[–]Crumbford 1 point2 points ago

Those two are destined to be together, and damn it who am I to keep them apart.

[–]ishallkillyou 0 points1 point ago

I just assumed dinosaurs spoke like Tommy Wiseau

[–]metro99 0 points1 point ago

Get on the trendy meme train or be downvoted to hell.

[–]Aggnavarius 0 points1 point ago

From now on, whenever I get all you can eat wings, I'm going to say "Who's the king of lizards now?"

[–]monkeymagoo 2 points3 points ago

Jim Morrison

[–]U_n_Me -2 points-1 points ago

Best one of these I've seen. Actually LOL'ed.
