This is not Gudvangen, this is Reine, a small fishers town situated on one of the many islands in a part of Norway called Lofoten. I actually went to the school you see in the bottom right corner! A fantastic place to grow up :)

      Those little boats there.. There are a lot more of them but they're out fishing.. Then there's stuff to do with the fish, then there's administering the people working at the processing plants. They can't just eat fish all the time though, so a few shops would pop up. Somebody should probably get a job transporting the wares into the tiny town too, and get the fish in to a bigger hub. Hey, It looks kinda cool around here, so if we set up a cozy hotel and a little motel or two maybe people would come stay for a few days. Oh, we kinda need someone to fix and maintain the boats, and build the houses. And someone should take care of the kids during the day, and school.. We need a few teachers as well.. Hey, what happens if my car breaks down?

          I was in Gudvangen this year. Its a collection of a half a dozen houses and a ferry port.

          I'm lucky enough to get to visit Norway a couple of times a year when we're staying with family. It really is as beautiful as you think. Thing is, after a few days, I'll be driving along thinking "oh, cool. ANOTHER awe-inspiring unspoiled vista, fjords and mountains as far as the eye can see". You become slightly numb to it, so I'd imagine that if you'd lived there your whole life you might end up taking it for granted.

          You pretty much take it for granted all the time, unless you actually struggle to get there, like climbing a mountain or something. Then you dont take it for granted.

          But yeah, you just get used to it.

              Are the mountains modified to make the more craggy and spectacular in this image? I have been looking at the google streets view of the town, and just don't see the same kind of mountains.

              I was about to say... I've been to Reine... this looks verrry familiar.

              I wasn't going to say anything on account of Norway being a magical land that probably has numerous places that look like that.

              Glad to know my gut reaction was correct.

              Great grandma is from Kirkefjord, just a short ride on the mail boat a fjord over from Reine!

                I may be wrong, but I don't think this is Gudvangen. And it is most certanly not Gudvangen in Aurland kommune, even though the internet says it is. This is Gudvangen!

                It also looks like it's been stretched vertically to make the mountain seem more impressive. Here's a comparison with an actual picture.

                EDIT: I reduced the vertical stretching to 75% of the posted photo, and here's the result. I think most of us would agree that it's beautiful enough without distorting reality.

                  You are correct. I was the one who posted this picture 13 days ago. I also thought it was Gudvangen, but I was quickly corrected. No matter where this is it is still one of my favorite pictures.

                          My ex boyfriend's granduncle had painted a watercolour... I liked it so much that he let me keep it. He is now deceased and I did regret never asking him where he painted it. I only knew it was in Norway and he was there in person.

                          Now I see this photo on reddit and fnally I have some directions.

                          I've lived in, and stayed in, beautiful places around the world. You get used to looking at the same view after a while. It just becomes background; nice, but that's all.
