I live in fear that once the human race becomes extinct, this gif will be the only remaining representation of us.

[–]bitter_cynical_angry 7 points8 points ago

My dad has always said that the reason aliens have never contacted us is because, radiating away from earth at the speed of light, is a sphere of TV signals, the leading edge of which is the Howdy Doody Show and the McCarthy hearings.

[–]Bograff 28 points29 points ago

Every time I see this .gif I expect it to get Nigel'd but I think the reason that never happens is because the original is just so much more terrifying than Nigel could ever make it.

[–]counttotoo 28 points29 points ago

I am from Europe, so can someone please explain to me, who this is. Please.

[–]ManicOppressive 125 points126 points ago

It's a "mother" and "daughter" who were on the show "Toddlers and Tiaras." It's an exploitation show about toddler-beauty contests. The kid pictured is "Honey-Boo-Boo" and... FUCK I SWEAR MY ENTIRE COUNTRY ISN'T LIKE THIS.

And they're getting their OWN show... sob

[–]Evesore 88 points89 points ago

They are mother and daughter, putting those words in quotes makes zero sense.

[–]anchorsaway7 60 points61 points ago

He's hoping it's all a sham and we're being played.

[–]cycopl 33 points34 points ago

Kind of. The daughter is actually a part of the blob that broke off and developed its own consciousness. That's why mother and daughter are in quotes.

[–]MannODeath 10 points11 points ago

I interpreted the quotes of a way of saying she's such a bad mother that she shouldn't be considered a mother.

[–]counttotoo 41 points42 points ago

Goddamit America. Just when Jersy shore got canceled. Dammnit all to HELL!!!

[–]jayseesee85 13 points14 points ago

Getting? Tonight's the season finale!

[–]dcviper 4 points5 points ago

*series. And we all thank (insert creator/benevolent dictator here) for that.

[–]jayseesee85 3 points4 points ago

Series? Oh hell that's the best news I've heard all quarter.

[–]5ive6ix 44 points45 points ago

PLEASE don't think we are all like this. I'm so embarrassed that this is coming from my country...

[–]counttotoo 23 points24 points ago

I hold you all responsible!

[–]robotsongs 22 points23 points ago

Our country has a pretty significant population. Within a group of this many people, there is going to be a very small percentage of people who invariably fall far outside of the statistical mean. With an even larger population comes an even larger sample of those who don't quite fit in. Don't be embarrassed by this-- every country has weird motherfuckers within their ranks, but because our population is many times that of many European countries, it seems like we have more of them per capita. It's not representative of the whole, it's just that because their numbers are larger, they're more visible.

edit: per capita

[–]The_Horse_Lady 15 points16 points ago

WE know this, but it feels like these are the only bit of our citizens the other countries see!

[–]counttotoo 54 points55 points ago

That's not the case. Some countries get to see your soldiers too.

[–]XirtaeBoddiK 1 point2 points ago

This. Exactly this.

I'd like to make one teensy observation: with the drastic increase of ppl who watch this shit tv, reality tv, the more fucking weirdos there are and the weirder it gets!! Have you seen the channel guide lately, holy fuck, who watches this shit? Someone does...

[–]hasjthits 26 points27 points ago

Someone should write an in depth comparison of these two submissions.

[–]VINEWHIP 84 points85 points ago

So what exactly is the difference between these two submissions?

Let’s start with the obvious; beepROBOT’s submission has 10,000 more upvotes. In fact, the submitter of the other post was so brutally ashamed by the score on his submission that he actually deleted his account. But what did [deleted] actually do wrong? Let’s visit the subtle differences between these submissions;

beepROBOT’s submission is of a much lower quality, and is full of JPEG artifacts. The image in [deleted]’s submission is actually quite high resolution image, so we can tell from this that reddit does not upvote properly optimized images. The optimization of the image in no way influences reddit’s decision, and if we were to analyze this data alone, it would show a startling preference for low quality, grainy images. As the current sample size is very small, I don’t think it will be fair to base reddit’s judgment on image optimization; so I will move on.

The title. beepROBOT has carefully selected his title to invite the reader into discussion. His title is a rhetorical question which he already knows the answer to. He knows that the reddit hivemind does not agree with the show Toddlers & Tiaras, and he is playing into this perfectly. By showing that he himself rejects the show, while feigning ignorance to the hivemind’s opinion of the show, he invites reddit to embrace the highly agreed upon viewpoint that Toddlers & Tiaras is a bad show and is open to be mocked. [deleted]’s submission does not play into this. In fact his submission dives right into the deep end and embraces the hivemind with open arms. He knows that Toddlers & Tiaras is frowned upon, and so he is inviting the hivemind to mock and taunt by affirming from the very start that, ‘yes, we all agree on it, let’s discuss it.’ The hivemind however, failed to take the bait this time.

The final point I am going to raise was most likely the deciding factor in reddit’s judgement. Omitted from beepROBOT’s submission was the caption “I almost feel bad for this”. This was pivotal in the hivemind’s decision. [deleted]’s submission brought home the underlying fact that while Toddlers & Tiaras is very disagreeable, the people being mocked in the photo are actually real people capable of emotion and they should be treated accordingly. beepROBOT played on the anonymity of reddit, the fact that when put behind a mask of anonymity, people often show their true colors. We enjoy mocking people with no chance of rebuttal, but to have it instilled upon us by [deleted] that we should possibly have feelings for these people was enough to sway the vote in beepROBOT’s favor. We are not here to feel bad for our actions, we are here to have a good time and laugh at a joke at another’s expense. We do not need to be reminded that our mockery is cruel and unjust. According to the reddit hivemind, Toddlers & Tiaras is cruel and unjust and deserves to be mocked. beepROBOT played into this perfectly.

In conclusion, I believe it is blindingly obvious as to why beepROBOT’s submission gained notoriety as opposed to [deleted]’s. Reddit enjoys mockery without consequence. To instill a moral high ground into a picture mocking what is possibly the most hated show on television was practically karma suicide.

One of my favorite current jokes on The Soup is their calling her "The Human Thumb"

[–]jericho2291 75 points76 points ago

Are the mother's arms photoshopped? They look like dirty hams dangling in a deli.

[–]flamingguts 14 points15 points ago

God dammit. That's graphic.

[–]oseary 99 points100 points ago

If you look closely at the left picture, you'll begin to count the chins. You'll get confused and lost at the potential that the chins repeat themselves. You'll then navigate to another set of folds, wondering if it's making a duck face or if the chins grew upward.

You'll give up and wonder how they were able to stitch several ham hocks together and they stay in place on what were supposed to have been arms. You'll give up your quest for figuring out how this living monstrosity fit into that pink shrink wrap only to discover a short, life-like Porky Pig throwing deuces at the camera.

You'll cry yourself to sleep realizing that there is no hope for humanity.

[–]pitchblack2035 28 points29 points ago

[–]Last_Gigolo 9 points10 points ago

I always think of an angry MIMI

[–]hateboresme 14 points15 points ago

Except Mimi had the benefit of a finely honed wit and deadly sarcasm.

This woman is stupid enough to think that she's on TV because she has some sort of value to society, and not because she's serving as a way to make every other human being feel better about themselves by thinking "Hey, it could be worse. I could be her."

[–]i_h8_everyone 5 points6 points ago

She was also less fat.

[–]Pays4Porn 39 points40 points ago

Maybe we can stop constantly talking about it

[–]Patton445 7 points8 points ago

The sad fact is people actually watch this.... and I know some of them....

[–]frotc914 29 points30 points ago

I watch it all the time. It's incredibly entertaining. AMA.

[–]elshizzo 6 points7 points ago

rather than watch it, i'm just curious what makes it entertaining?

Is it sort of like watching a car crash entertaining? It's horrible but you can't look away?

Or is it entertaining in a different way?

[–]frotc914 21 points22 points ago

No the family is actually really nice. Another comment described them as "endearing", and I would agree. The 7 year old girl is really quite funny - she has all these weird characters and always makes funny comments. The mom and her sisters are pretty funny too. Since they are dirt poor they don't have a computer, A/C (they live in Georgia), or anything entertaining, which makes the show seem a lot more authentic than most reality shows.

EDIT: I admit that, like many, I went into it assuming that what I would see is a trainwreck to laugh at. I found myself happily surprised, I guess. It's just as entertaining as I'd hoped but without the deep feeling of hopelessness that most reality shows cause.

[–]N0V0w3ls 7 points8 points ago

I admit I really like the family. The show isn't as staged and over the top as Jersey Shore, but it's still not something I'd watch regularly. The mom makes fun of her own weight and the fact that she has to wash her hair in the sink (because she has 4 daughters and 1 bathroom). If I were to meet these people, the only thing I'd be grossed out by is the boyfriend's chew.

[–]GarMc 22 points23 points ago

Sweet Jesus, the triple chin.

[–]yuyu2003 32 points33 points ago

Oh look, it's Reddit's favorite show again. If it weren't for you people, I wouldn't even know it existed.

[–]blademagic7 11 points12 points ago

This is the start of a good Halloween costume. Oh God, what if honey booboo was a slasher flick?

[–]PaleOfBucket 5 points6 points ago

My two-man Krang and Android costume. (I'm Krang). I spent the night getting attacked by waves and waves of groups in Ninja Turtles in West Hollywood. Something like this.

[–]Digita1B0y 16 points17 points ago

Hey now. Krang the Conqueror may be a psychotic alienoid from another dimension, bent on world domination and enslaving the human race...but he would NEVER put his daughter in a tiara, make her enter beauty pageants, and try to live vicariously through her, thus effectively robbing her of her childhood.

That's just cruel.

[–]infectant 20 points21 points ago

Pic on the right is far less repulsive.

[–]RJBuggy 12 points13 points ago

pic on the right actually has a brain

[–]triceratops3 15 points16 points ago

I hate the smug look that child always has...

[–]BlackLeatherRain 22 points23 points ago

Gaze upon the face of young white entitlement! In fifteen years, she'll be complaining about jerbs being stolen while her husband, Papa Diddy, scratches his balls and asks for another beer while watching NASCAR.

[–]lovetoski 9 points10 points ago

[–]pdxphreek 5 points6 points ago

Is that Mimi from the Drew Cary Show standing behind the little prostitot?

[–]WATSONS_SHAVED_VULVA 3 points4 points ago

I just realized the reason that kid is pulling her face in like that to make that double chin is that her mother has been teaching her how to dance and perform. And her mother looks like that when saying "Do it just like mommy!". [6]

Also, the kid is a little fat.

Edit: double chin...

[–]My_ducks_sick 2 points3 points ago

Just from my limited experience with the show, the child is trying to act ghetto. not fat,,, yo.

[–]mirth23 7 points8 points ago

an excellent example of the important difference between fat and phat

[–]thelovepirate 66 points67 points ago

I know I'm not supposed to like them, but I seriously cannot stop watching Honey Boo Boo Child. That show is a train wreck in the best possible way.

EDIT: 10 upvotes. 10 downvotes. The decision is yours gentlemen, but I'm riding this ship until the bitter end.

[–]YesNoMaybe 59 points60 points ago

That show pretty much represents most of the things I hate in the US today. The fact that these people are getting so much attention just depresses me.

[–]1_horrible_person 32 points33 points ago

I felt this way before watching the first episode out of morbid curiosity. The family was actually somewhat endearing, and it made me question how much of my prior opinion was formed on redneck stereotypes.

[–]frotc914 21 points22 points ago

Exactly how I felt. "endearing" is the perfect word. You can really see group-think in action here. Nobody who is bad mouthing has seen more than a 40 second clip, but they know everything they need to.

[–]armauld 7 points8 points ago

Yeah, I truly wanted to hate this show and I truly couldn't.

They seem like crude, gross rednecks who love each other, love who they are, and are pretty freaking hilarious.

[–]punkinpye 6 points7 points ago

Watched some of it last night and pretty much liked it. The little girl is actually pretty cool when she's not all hopped up on go-go juice - and totally hilarious. They played "Guess the Breath" last night. They have no pride and are totally ok with that. So am I.

[–]shamy52 24 points25 points ago

Yeah, ditto. No one is forcing the little girl to do the stupid pageant thing, the family's life does not revolve around it, and you can tell big fat mom really loves her kids.

They're really trashy, but I'm sure there are people out there that would say I'm trashy because I make less than $100k and live in the midwest.

[–]WalrusTits 2 points3 points ago

Dude I wish I could make 20k and live in the midwest, that's the life.

[–]kjgyfk 4 points5 points ago

I read the Cracked article on how Honey Boo Boo is redeeming reality TV, and I actually pretty much agreed.

[–]lesmax 11 points12 points ago

The show has become a huge guilty pleasure of mine. They legitimately make me laugh. I find the dad to be a very caring guy, too.

[–]ProffieThrowaway 11 points12 points ago

Given what her mom is making her do, the child is remarkably resilient and normal. I actually thought that about a lot of the clips of Toddlers and Tiaras I saw on The Soup--the kids are FAR more normal than their moms.

[–]frotc914 5 points6 points ago

the mom doesn't really make the kid do anything. If the kid wanted to stop doing pageants, they wouldn't do them.

[–]JVNT 3 points4 points ago

In some cases the kid wants to do it, yes. But I'm pretty sure the babies that are entered into some of the pageants can't quite crawl away that easily. Some of them can't even sit up without assistance.

[–]frotc914 10 points11 points ago

As an (ugh can't believe I'm saying this) avid viewer of both Ts&Ts and Honey Boo Boo, I think the girls who are "forced into it" are the gross minority. Yeah, sometimes the kids don't wanna practice, or they get tired and cranky at the pageant, but that's just part of having a kid. Additionally, the moms take it too seriously and are generally a little whacked, but that doesn't mean the kids don't want to do it. Sometimes they enjoy doing something but wouldn't want to in the short term. If you gave up every time your kid cried at that age, he would have zero hobbies or activities.

As for the younger kids (i.e. under 3 or so), I think it's stupid they are part of the pageants. Apart from that, I suppose it doesn't really matter. I mean a one year old is pretty much subject to whatever her parents want to do at that given moment - whether its a pageant or a car ride to the dry cleaners or whatever - so it doesn't really make a difference, IMHO.

[–]tinktj06 4 points5 points ago

I kinda like honey boo boo child.. She's pretty funny.

[–]Pravusmentis 3 points4 points ago

See: BK special video where they made an antigravity machine, they need more power and someone goes

YOU ARE NEVER THE ONLY ONE!

[–]Docgrumpit 6 points7 points ago

I watched one of her shows. She puts up with a lot of shit from her daughters. Surprisingly, she takes it in stride and has a self-deprecating kind of humor. Honey boo boo seems to be a sweet natured jelly roll of a child who is self driven to participate in those ridiculous pageants.

[–]grahampositive 5 points6 points ago

Yeah this show get a lot of hate on Reddit, but I'll go out on a limb and say that they aren't really that bad. The camera is sort of unflinching (no narration, etc) but I feel that the family is a little more self-aware than some other reality show subjects. They have their own set of values which they seem to stick to, and although their family is unorthodox- you can see that the mother cares for her kids and their well-being.

IMO, the worst (unscripted) show on TV - the one that simultaneously displays both the most deplorable behavior and subjects us to the biggest train-wreck of a culture- is "My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding". That show sucks.

[–]Metamorphism 8 points9 points ago

Looks like a dressed up thumb

[–]ruinah 6 points7 points ago

I came across this show last night when flipping. Could....not.....change...channel.....fast....enough. I think I lost about 50 IQ points in the 10 seconds I saw.

[–]naaahhman 9 points10 points ago

Dude, I had it on for a couple of hours, not paying attention. It was background nose, every once in awhile I'd look up and wonder what the fuck this show has to do with learning. Fuck you TLC, bring back the educational value of your past programming.

Honey Boo Boo Child is the BRAIN!

[–]HongManChoi 2 points3 points ago

KILL IT BEFORE IT BREE- oh... Shit.

[–]antattack 2 points3 points ago

"reddit is under heavy load right now..." yes it is.

[–]NothingtodohereOGW 9 points10 points ago

Am I the only one who doesn't give a shit?

[–]KingGirardeau 12 points13 points ago

You are not.

[–]NothingtodohereOGW 4 points5 points ago

I just wish people would just ignore that fat bitch and her spawn, I'm getting really bored seeing it all over reddit.

[–]KingGirardeau 5 points6 points ago

What people need to realize is that even by making fun of her they are exposing her to more people which is in turn making her more famous. Ignoring is the best strategy.

[–]Had_To_Switch 3 points4 points ago

When this makes it to the front page you will clearly realize you are not the only one.

Smug + ugly = Smugly

[–]GentlemenQuinn 1 point2 points ago

It's like I train wreck - I don't want to see it, but I can't look away.

[–]Catch22af 3 points4 points ago

[–]jglee1236 -2 points-1 points ago

[–]Hoosier_Jones -1 points0 points ago

Is that Kevin from The Office?!

[–]mafmaf -1 points0 points ago

So honey boo boo is the mastermind behind her own show

[–]50shadesofGandalf -1 points0 points ago

You're comparing a child pageant with an alien brainy mastermind? That's quite an irony.

[–]ExperimentalAles -1 points0 points ago

No

[–]Bertowvu -1 points0 points ago

i tried killing that many times... i miss my nintendo

[–]Zangenberg -1 points0 points ago

Holy shit! I just shat my pants from laughing! Here have some upvote

[–]RakeattheGates 1 point2 points ago

Holy crap, I never realized how awesomely disproportionate Krang's cyborg's arms are. According to the TMNT wiki, Krang asked Shredder for a body when they became allies but Shredder feared he would be a rival if he helped him out. Maybe the 2 foot arms were Shredders way of handicapping him.

[–]aidiot 0 points1 point ago

Who are these people?

[–]sumiriously -1 points0 points ago

This made my day

[–]Tranger -1 points0 points ago

I see no brain in the left pic.

[–]DonkeyKongJr149 0 points1 point ago

I have been looking for that pic forever. Always thought that Kraig the brain guy form ninja turtles looked just like Graham Elliot from Master Chef. Can I get a side by side pic of that Reddit????

[–]AlwaysHere202 -1 points0 points ago

This is my first comment on Toddlers and Tiaras,

Why do we continue this? Every post, and every comment, only encourages this behavior.

We have an insecure mother showcasing her daughter. She is getting support even by our negative comments.

They have been in front of my eyes way too often to just laugh at anymore. They are winning because you continue to post.

Please stop.

[–]DrPoepoat 0 points1 point ago

she looks like a thumb

[–]superhappytrail 0 points1 point ago

[–]TacoSunday69 0 points1 point ago

I don't know man, I'm not seeing it, she has 4x as many chins as him

[–]Hraesvelg7 0 points1 point ago

After his wrestling career ended, King Kong Bundy played host to a brain monster from Dimension X for a while. Eventually tiring of fighting weird looking freaks in colorful costumes again, he decided to become one himself.

[–]supergalactic 0 points1 point ago

I heard she gives her daughter a strange concoction of Mountain Dew mixed with Red Bull.
