You shouldn't have done that.

[–]masterjonin 19 points20 points ago

You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?

[–]hero1012878 5 points6 points ago

HO HO HO . . .

[–]nizzleh 1 point2 points ago

YA!

The Father.... Why is he laughing?

[–]like_an_employee123 7 points8 points ago

Maybe OP is Ben...

[–]thevideoclown 10 points11 points ago

My friend had an abusive older brother who would beat the living fuck out of him and stab him with knives when he caught him playing his ps2. One day I went over to his house when his brother was at work and we played final fantasy 12. Later in he day I went to the bathroom and when I came back I saw my friend crying and he told me that he saved over his brothers 100+ hour save. I ran home and didnt see my friend ever again.

[–]Choppa790 10 points11 points ago

That sounds serious...you should see a therapist.

[–]ChronnerCage 5 points6 points ago

Jesus Christ

[–]MrGelowe 0 points1 point ago

What state did this happen in? I'll look for the case.

[–]thevideoclown 0 points1 point ago

This happened in Canada and my friend didnt go missing. Just an over exaggeration at the end with what his punishment was. His brother just beat him up pretty badly. He had a lot of bruises next day of school. Eventually he dropped out and moved and that's why I never saw him.

[–]MrGelowe 0 points1 point ago

Awww.... I have been reading a lot of massed up criminal cases for school. Would have been cool/sad to look up Manslaughter over a video game save file.

[–]contreramanjaro 8 points9 points ago

This was a real concern for me when my mother would only let me rent N64 games and I wanted to get through them. Rent it a week later to see someone has started over on your slot... the worst.

[–]A_Piece_of_Pie 6 points7 points ago

What's worse is when you accidentally save over your own file, because you have no one to blame.

[–]thejameffect 11 points12 points ago

Just play the song of time backwards, or something

[–]Thotaz 9 points10 points ago

What good would slowing the time do?

[–]thejameffect 16 points17 points ago

Prolong the anguish?

[–]Net_Bastard 4 points5 points ago

I did this to my brother once. I even named the file the same thing. Sorry Matt.

[–]DTroll 0 points1 point ago

it's okay, i forgive you

[–]sqazm 3 points4 points ago

You know, they really ought to give you the option to password protect your saves. "Do you want to save over this file? Please enter the 4 digit verification code."

[–]ZenDragon 0 points1 point ago

A numeric code would be a pain to input on a console. How about just a button sequence on the controller? I could put up with that. Anyway good idea.

[–]laiika 4 points5 points ago

Earlier this year, my 24 year old brother saved over my Pokemon Diamond and Soul Silver files. I've caught hundreds of shinies on diamond, including legendaries and even hatched a shiny dratini. I was so distraught I didn't pick up any of my Pokemon games for months, especially because my prized shiny Dragonite, the only one special to me, was on my Silver team. It wasn't until last week when I finally picked up my platinum version that I realized I had transferred my entire collection, save a pinsir, onto said platinum. It was magical.

I haven't forgiven my brother.

[–]MewtwoStruckBack 2 points3 points ago

Nor should you.

[–]fufdoofGOG 4 points5 points ago

BEN.

[–]BeefyCake 2 points3 points ago

You have no idea how much this guy used to scare me when I was younger. I always had to get someone else to skip through the text just so I didn't have to watch this guy get angry.

[–]White_Devil_x2 3 points4 points ago

When Skyrim first came out I made an argonian assassin named Blood Scales, about a day later he was lvl 33 I had just maxed out my sneak tree.... then my roomie saved over him with his lvl 10 mage. It was a seriously gut wrenching feeling the only saving grace was his expression of fear and guilt. R.I.P Blood Scales

[–]iceman78772 1 point2 points ago

Double Save

[–]TGiFallen 1 point2 points ago

I take that even further... One time I was cleaning out my hard drive to save space when I saw that something in My Documents was taking 2.55 gigabytes of space, I thought to myself "what on earth is that large in my documents?"

Turns out it was my Skyrim saves, all 400+ of them

[–]DoubleTapThat 0 points1 point ago

Revert save file to a previous state?

[–]bolderdash 2 points3 points ago

When I was about 10 or 11, my younger sister somehow deleted my Super Mario World save game. At 10 years old, I was distraught. Needless to say, she almost died that day.

[–]Trucidar 0 points1 point ago

I had the same thing happen. Except they deleted my Majora's mask file. Therefore this fucking image hurts me right in the feels.

[–]actonesceneone -4 points-3 points ago

Now as an adult you can realize the battery in your cart died making all your old save files obsolete anyways. Life goes on..

[–]tHEkCAJ 1 point2 points ago

my little brother deleted my first complete kingdom hearts file and i almost put him through the tv.

[–]Your_Ego 0 points1 point ago

I used to cry when someone saved over my file :'(

[–]bigduckman 3 points4 points ago

I still do.

[–]thatsamesong 1 point2 points ago

I recently saved over my best friend's Fallout 3 file on accident. I've never felt so horrible.

[–]Ameridrone 1 point2 points ago

If he had only one it was his fault. I mean stormy work a game june that you have to have multiple saves!

[–]thatsamesong 1 point2 points ago

She actually had many save files! Somehow my game saved over every single one of them. I'm no stranger to the save system so I have no clue what happened. It's a mystery to this day!

[–]MoNkEyxJOSHH 0 points1 point ago

Reminds me of the time someone saved over my friend's game file on some PS3 game. They tried to convince me that saving over games worked differently on PS3, as I watched them delete the almost finished save. Tried to stop them, no luck.

[–]roeburrtoe 1 point2 points ago

Always save on the last file.

[–]ieGod 2 points3 points ago

On a related note, why does Nintendo still use the limited save slot approach to modern games. We're not using cartridges with limited memory footprint here...

[–]nytemare99 0 points1 point ago

i remember majoras mask with the mario mask on his pack it was hilarious

[–]ReleeSquirrel 0 points1 point ago

Saving over someone else's game is the hardest part of playing used games.

[–]vitorizzo 0 points1 point ago

that was me when i lost my phantom hourglass saved game file. i dont play zelda games at all (the one i played before that was the minish cap i think) but i really got into that game. i think the part i was up to was i had to find ingredients to make a sword or the master sword i dont remember....probably wasnt too far into the game...

[–]rabbithands 0 points1 point ago

My younger brother was playing Link to the Past on our SNES, and was on like, the 8th temple or something. I barely touched the console with my foot by mistake, and the console, being as old as it was, turned off. When my brother turned it back on, all of the saved games were gone. Needless to say, he was pissed.

[–]MewtwoStruckBack 0 points1 point ago

There were only 7 dungeons in Dark World.

While this is bad, it is not an earth-shattering offense, as getting through A Link to the Past without dying or saving usually takes under 3.5 hours, and that's from someone that doesn't even speedrun.

[–]InsaneDrunkenAngel 0 points1 point ago

That happened to me last night on skyrim. It's even worse when you do it to yourself, cause then you have no one to blame.

[–]RiverwoodHood 0 points1 point ago

I feel your pain. that sounds awful. are you going to start from scratch?

[–]zx2654 0 points1 point ago

That is a huge under reaction

[–]MewtwoStruckBack 1 point2 points ago

I am honestly wondering how this is not legally a civil offense with set penalties paid to the wronged party based on the length (in hours) of the save that was overwritten, deleted, etc.

[–]sonicnirvana1991 1 point2 points ago

i think you have the best user name i have ever seen on reddit lol

[–]imdrunkontea 0 points1 point ago

My friend saved over my save file in Rogue Squadron on the N64. I had just about all the medals, missions, and vehicles unlocked.

Worst part was that the other two save slots were still open.

He is not my friend anymore.

[–]sonicnirvana1991 0 points1 point ago

i did that to my sister once by an accident.... she tryed to kill me -.-

[–]ThatGuyRememberMe 0 points1 point ago

If it's a pc game, you can set the save back to a previous version.

[–]Anhur55 0 points1 point ago

This shit happened to me and my best friend when we were in 5th grade, to this very game.

We had just beaten the water temple and had been working on the game for probably 4 or 5 months (again, 5th grade and we would only play it when he came over). One day my best friend and I are playing and we go to get a snack to come back and discover that our other friend had deleted our save file because he "wanted to see the beginning" Worst part is that the other save slot was open...

Still haven't beaten that fucking game.

[–]ZeppoLeClown 0 points1 point ago

On majora's mask? you should be grateful, such a great game.

[–]BKDX 0 points1 point ago

Also applies when you get really bad brain-freeze.

[–]beyondtheforeigner 0 points1 point ago

Dude, I recently saved over the book keeping file for one of the small companies I work with. That picture was my pose for like an hour while slowly realizing I'll basically just have to redo it all free of charge :)

[–]Kutharos 0 points1 point ago

I had that with San Andreas. I was in the second city, right around the nerd quest line with the remote control plane( Hated that one, and never could beat it) That was a solid 40 or so of work, after exploring half of the state and building up an ton of cars and costumes of CJ. My buddy borrowed my game and card, and found my game to be saved over, and my work gone.

I am not on speaking terms with that guy, for this and other reasons.

[–]ScreamingAloudInside 0 points1 point ago

My friend had some weird ass third party PS2 memory card that required sticking some minidisc into the console to use it. Somehow I wiped it by accident. All his SSX, all his Timesplitters, all his GTAIII, all his GTA VC, all his Dead or Alive 2 and many other game saves, all gone.

[–]LogicalyImpaired 0 points1 point ago

My gf occasionally likes to play the same game as me, and is not as, save tech savvy as some. I've told her, if I ever lose a save, that is grounds for separation. 3 years later...I have never lost a save, yet.

As a younger brother that on multiple occasions accidentally deleted my older brothers save files, I apologize. I honestly didn't know I was saving over things and when I found out, man it was horrible. Having to break the news to my brother that I deleted his 99% complete Toy Story Racing save was scary D:

[–]MrGelowe -2 points-1 points ago

You turn into a green pixilated goblin girl? Cool!!!
