My English mastif had a great Dane dog park friend. The mastif shat more. I too was shocked at this. I'd say it was about the same as a typical large dog but not super large.

              I agree with both. Partly, you know the patterns and get sick of them. Partly, the group deteriorates as it gets bigger and more people know about it. That's how groups work. Like, if you've ever had a club in school that grew, and you started to be iffy about the new members, and then more new members came in that were more iffy. Eventually you say fuck it and leave and find a new, smaller, group and the cycle repeats itself...(even if you go back and visit now and then- you usually are reminded why you left. This is my relationship with 4chan to a tee.)

                  While Dane's tend to stay fairly lean, this one IS underfed. You should never be able to see individual vertebrae. Also, he is almost four years old. Not "young" for a Dane by any means.

                  Yeah we had great Danes while I was growing up and they tend to be pretty skinny, but the photo of this one made me a little uncomfortable. He's too thin.

                  The video says the dog is 155 pounds. My Great Dane is not anywhere near that tall and looks very healthy at 160.

                  This pet looks perfectly healthy. I am a vet student. A study was done with labs where dogs were fed 80% of the recommended feeding and there was a control group. The dogs fed less, thus thinner, lived about 2 years longer and had much less health problems. A thinner dog is normally much healthier than a "normal" or overweight dog. Especially with that dog being a Great Dane, you don't want any extra weight on those joints.

                  As a veterinary technician, if I saw this dog come into my clinic, I would give him a low body condition score. You can see every rib and vertebrae. In a healthy dog, with a BCS of 4-5/9 you shouldn't be able to see each rib, but should be able to feel them when palpating lightly.

                  Fed less and thinner are arbitrary statements. Give me concrete proof relating to body fat %, blood work, joint health, etc. Also, how large was this study and were other determinants ruled out as an explanation for the longer life and less health problems?

                  Have you seen the previous record holder Giant George?

                  He is very overweight. IIRC, the owners said he weighed over 240lbs. It's so sad because Great Danes have sensitive joints due to their height and size that it's better for them to be a bit skinny.

                  You treat your Danish slaves really well. I keep mine just fed enough to keep on living, but you can see the vertebrae on my slaves very easily, especially on the women. Two years old is a little young for slaves though. I can't get much work out of any slaves that are much younger than 5.

                          Zeus is certainly very tall, but look at the floor tiles and the woman. You can tell this picture was taken from a low angle which makes any foreground objects appear towering. The woman is standing a few feet further back than the dog, dwarfing her comparatively. A similar technique was used to make the hobbits seem small in the Lord of the Rings movies. She's also leaning back a bit to enhance the effect. I don't doubt that this is a huge dog, but the misleading setup of this photo makes it difficult to tell exactly how huge.

                              Not a low angle. You can see the floor tiles have a normal vanishing point perspective. However, the Dog's hind legs appear larger then the front legs. The difference of scale between them is the same as the scale of difference from the girl to the dog's front legs. You can tell because they are 1 tile from each other in depth. This was probably done with a wide angle or similar technique.

                                          This is Zues who is the tallest Dog according the the Guinness Record book for 2013 released today. He is 44inches tall. I saw this while at the hospital today and they were playing "good morning America". Those are facts, however, this image is VERY perspective forced and he is not nearly as tall as he appears.
