Mechanical Pencils.

but sometimes they make that squeaky sound!

And then you run out of lead and you're stuck attempting to write with a teeny piece of lead that doesn't quite fit in the pencil anymore

Then you buy more led then run out of eraser.

People saying lead instead of graphite is mildly infuriating.

Exactly! It's cheaper than a pencil and lasts a lot longer, you don't have to use a pencil sharpener because it's always sharp, and on top of it all it doesn't use wood, so it's less wasteful!

I just rip that edge off with my fingers

But then the tip breaks!

I would always get upset when I had to borrow a pencil and it wasn't Eagle. Upvote for you.

If you're cool with spending a little extra, buy Tombow drawing pencils. I have never had a split-lead-that-makes-you-draw-2-lines-at-once, breakage, broken lead inside the pencil, the OP's problem, anything. Best pencil purchase ever.

This is what I bought; you can probably find normal #2 pencils there, too. You can also find them in most art stores.

This is caused by off-centered lead. Always check the centering of both sides(if possible) of unsharpened pencils of any sort. On a side note, this is also why certain pencil's points break all the fucking time.

That's why I sharpen mine with a knife. Or just use a mechanical pencil.

I apply pressure to that side while sharpening or nip it with a razor blade.
