Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

Here are some translations of the Arabic signs, not at all in order:

  • No, no, no to Al Qaida

  • No to Al Qaida, no to terrorism; this is a young people's revolution

  • Arrest the killers [lit. armed men] today

  • No place for Al-Qaida here

  • The flavor of terrorism is not for Libya

  • Enough retaliation, we want [cut off, probably "peaceful"] reactions

  • Islam is innocent, the traitors are spoiling our [cut off]

  • Do you reward for good other than good?

  • Whoever has no conscience, remember that God waits but does not neglect (Got help on this one from DONGREL below)

There's a lot of references to supporting the prophet and verses and such, but I'm not even going to attempt those. Quranic Arabic is hard.

[–]DONGREL 475 points476 points ago

also the one that says "من ليس عنده ضمير فليتذكر إن الله يمهل ولا يهمل"

clumsy translation

"whomever has no conscience, remember that Allah is patient with you but does not forgive the sins of unrepentant wrongdoers."

[–]ElephantTeeth 129 points130 points ago

Good catch! I couldn't get past the handwriting on that one, Arabic is def not my first language. :)

[–]ElephantTeeth 46 points47 points ago

Oh, just got a better translation - with help from Google translate, to be honest. For the last part, it spat out "God waits, but does not neglect," which seems a lot more idiomatic

[–]ras_jorge 19 points20 points ago

It's a saying built on a play on words (the last bit): Allah yamhal wa la yahmal (as Google says, God waits, but does not neglect"). Pretty cool.

[–]rjworks13 75 points76 points ago

Thank you for the translations!

[–]Lanarchy 1796 points1797 points ago

RIP Vile Rat

[–]endercoaster 1293 points1294 points ago

To anybody who's inclined to downvote, this is not an insult. One of the people killed in the attack was a prominent EVE Online player whose in-game name was Vile Rat.

[–]uncommonpanda 308 points309 points ago

And was quite a badass player too

[–]Kaiosama 367 points368 points ago

Supposedly diplomacy was his strong suit.

Figures.

[–]FUCKING_EVERYTHING 289 points290 points ago

It's pretty much ingrained that if you shoot at a team mate on EVE? You tell Vile Rat straight away and he'll sort shit out, kinda became a running joke with us.

Used to be he'd occasionally say "Oh shit mortars, brb" and come back a few minutes later, I wasn't there but apparantly last night he said the same, but replace mortars with gunfire.. he didn't come back online after that though.

He'll be sorely missed by all of us.

[–]GiggityGiggityGooOO 60 points61 points ago

Maybe he just forgot to set his clone =(

[–]Mice_And_Men 78 points79 points ago

He's just going to podjump right back to us, right? Right guys?

RIP Vile Rat, a man who was damn good at his job and was a damn good person.

[–]Smithburg01 87 points88 points ago

He was one of the top players wasn't he?

[–]uncommonpanda 380 points381 points ago

"Smith was highly regarded in Eve Online, where he filled the role of a Diplomat.....He also served on the Council of Stellar Management (CSM), a panel of players voted into place by other players who represented player concerns in meetings with developer CCP.....

If you play this stupid game, you may not realize it, but you play in a galaxy created in large part by Vile Rat’s talent as a diplomat. No one focused as relentlessly on using diplomacy as a strategic tool as VR. Mercenary Coalition flipped sides in the Great War in large part because of Vile Rat’s influence, and if that hadn’t happened GSF probably would have never taken out BoB. Jabberlon5? VR made it. You may not even know what Jabberlon5 is, but it’s the smoke-filled jabber room where every nullsec personage of note hangs out and makes deals. Goonswarm has succeeded over the years in large part because of VR’s emphasis on diplomacy, to the point of creating an entire section with a staff of 10+ called Corps Diplomatique, something no other alliance has. He had the vision and the understanding to see three steps ahead of everyone else - in the game, on the CSM, and when giving real-world advice.....

Then the major media began reporting on the consulate and embassy attacks in Libya and Egypt, and I freaked out and then it turned out that it was my friend of six years who helped build this alliance into what it is today since, the very beginning, starting out as one of my agents and growing to become the single most influential diplomat in the history of Eve, or perhaps of any online game. "

Dude was a key part of what made a game like EVE so valuable to the players.

Shit's fucked up man....

This is where I read about it... http://themittani.com/news/rip-vile-rat

[–]xtremebox 64 points65 points ago

That blew my mind. A real life person bringing all his knowledge of diplomacy to push a game into something that it wasnt just for the sake of doing it. RIP

[–]untogethered 8 points9 points ago

I think it would actually be a great training exercise. He couls act out all kind of scenarios in-game.

[–]Smithburg01 45 points46 points ago

I just started looking into the game, I've been playing Dust 514 and through that I've gotten more interested in EVE, I think it's so cool that people can affect the game world so much like that. Not only that he was someone who actually worked as a Diplomat in real life, he brought what he cared about over to the game. He sounded like a very interesting person, it would have been nice to meet him.

[–]arudeandvulgarname 15 points16 points ago

Wow makes me think about how I might feel if I found out one of my friends from a mmo I've been playing for a while died... It's a strange thought.

[–]etree 6 points7 points ago

o7, fly safe.

[–]RWork 106 points107 points ago

Further to your post, for those who require it:

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/world/american-diplomat-sean-smith-killed-libya-protests-mourned-eve-online-gaming-community-article-1.1157600

Never met him in game, never had anything to do with him, but it's still sad to lose someone in such a way, regardless.

I could say some cheesy shit like, "He's not gone, he's just scouting ahead" or something, but I'm not sure it's right.

[–]rodneyjohnathan 13 points14 points ago

I'd like to believe that we gamers sometimes have more in commun than 2 people from a same nation. The Internet and games have changed everything and so much recently. Even as non American I feel sad for him and his community. Don't get me wrong I am. It saying that I am not sad for the other deads, I feel just less connected.

[–]KountZero 14 points15 points ago

What's CR7 doing in Libya?

[–]Provid3nce 481 points482 points ago

One key difference you'll see between this demonstration and the riot from the day before: the presence of women.

[–]showtimesynergy 105 points106 points ago

Not just women, but children, people of all ages as well. It's not a bunch of young men.

[–]Jymotion 39 points40 points ago

It seems our opinion of children holding up signs in rallies depends greatly on whether or not we agree with the sign.

[–]positron_potato 10 points11 points ago

i had to think about this for a minute, to figure out why this was any different than, say, the Westboro Baptist Church, and how they indoctrinate there children and bring them to their protests. i think the key difference here is that these children (the ones in the photos) are being taught tolerance as apposed to hatred. to some degree parents need to be able to teach their children how to be better people, without be told they are indoctrinating their kids.

[–]TheRealReisman 752 points753 points ago

I know I'm far too late to be found, but I find it odd that this is called a "pro-USA" demonstration. It seems much more in the spirit of mutual respect and understanding as well as sorrow for the evil in both countries. I think that "anti-terrorism/pro-Peaceful Islam" demonstration makes more sense.

[–]JiggaWatt79 169 points170 points ago

Completely. It's Anti-Terrorism and Violence more than Pro-America. This should be higher, and the clarification of the OP's title should be made clearer.

[–]eetsumkaus 78 points79 points ago

Came here to say this. Anti-terrorism does not mean pro-USA.

[–]libyaitalia[S] 401 points402 points ago

MORE PICTURES: http://imgur.com/a/KsI1F

[–]DutchPrisoner 22 points23 points ago

Can you translate what some of the signs say that are in what I assume is Arabic? Maybe even do a caption on each photo, if possible? I'm especially interested in knowing what the signs say when I know the person holding it understands the language.

[–]eaglebacon 308 points309 points ago

How many people were at this demonstration? The senseless incident really shook me so these images were very comforting to see. Thank you.

[–]peteyH 219 points220 points ago

It looks like around 100 or so.

Source: Eyeballin' it.

[–]noxstreak 163 points164 points ago

Comparing the pics of people storming the embassy it seems like very few.

[–]devilcraft 108 points109 points ago

If you're going up against a group of homicidal maniacs, even if they are less, it might not be as tempting to go out and stand up to them. People have this thing with not wanting to die.

[–]ngmcs8203 66 points67 points ago

Exactly. I think the main reason why it's not big news is because of the size of this demonstration. This gallery of photos could probably get cut down to 2-3. One wide and 1-2 close-ups. Even the close-ups seem to get most of the crowd.

[–]mainsworth 1022 points1023 points ago

The world needs more people like this. Thank you for distancing yourself from the ruthless and the cowards. I hope one day there will be no one to distance ourselves from, but until then, the moral and honorable must stand and fight against the wicked and evil.

Allah Bless Y'all.

Gradual_Redneck_Muslim

[–]luvmuppet 74 points75 points ago

Muslim rednecks exist. I saw one today here in Kuwait City (here for a few days) in a beat up old early 80s Chevrolet Impala.. wife in the passenger seat, 4 kids bouncing around in the back with no seatbelts.. fuzzy dice hanging from the rearview mirror.

I didn't see the back of it, but I would have expected whatever the Muslim version of a #3 sticker would be.

[–]Shihaby 33 points34 points ago

Muslim version of a #3 sticker? That would be his Blackberry pin number.

No, I'm not joking. This is a thing in Arab countries.

[–]gride9000 52 points53 points ago

you seem like a legit dude

[–]hdooster 79 points80 points ago

Here come the whiners.

Dude, you're cool. We need more people like you, and to me it doesn't matter which religion they practice, or if they don't.

[–]mellolizard 241 points242 points ago

Everyone always say, "If Muslims aren't all bad, why don't the good ones ever speak out."

Maybe they do but no one every listens.

[–]sempiris 114 points115 points ago

Maybe they also have other shit to do, like go to work and raise their kids, as opposed to sitting in a cave and plotting evil all day.

[–]rock99rock 8 points9 points ago

Damn. Life.

[–]kokope11i 30 points31 points ago

No different than any other culture. The extremist get the airtime as it is interesting

[–]red321red321 2120 points2121 points ago

Few bad apples give the whole cart a bad name and a rotten smell.

[–]carlcon 622 points623 points ago

This is so true. I'm Irish, currently living in America. The amount of people here who ask me about "The Troubles" and all sorts of mysterious danger in Ireland is baffling. My view of a dozen or so backward psychopaths planning things in an attic is another persons view of my nation at war with 1000s of terrorists who live in a primarily scared country.

For this reason, I refuse to ever accept that any nation is "full of bad guys". It's always a tiny minority, but they're always the loudest, unfortunately.

[–]schizodepressed 163 points164 points ago

I'm from Oklahoma City, and although we had nothing near the extent or horror of The Troubles, it has been viscerally engrained in me that terrorism is unfortunately a natural political phenomenon which will occur when bad people with fringe politics gain power and influence, and that to say "those damned Muslims" or "those damned Irish" or "those damned Kurds" (or, in mid-1940's Palestine, "those damned Jews") is to refuse to acknowledge that humans are primates who are very open to the idea of murdering other humans.

[–]exatreide 135 points136 points ago

I spoke with a couple soldiers in my squad, who swore that the Oklahoma city bombing wasn't a terrorist attack because it wasn't committed by Muslims. it was just "Anti Government". My jaw dropped.

[–]clutchperformer 36 points37 points ago

I witnessed the bombing firsthand and felt the shockwave. I'll be happy to personally inform him, that in my experiential opinion, it was a terrorist event. Interestingly, there's a place called Elohim City, OK - where people share his opinion, and it was strongly affiliated with McVeigh.

[–]stickyfingers10 16 points17 points ago

The similarity between the words "Muslim" and "Terrorist" would be the s and the i. It's depressing that there are people out there who think the word terrorism means Muslim.

[–]Se7en_speed 7 points8 points ago

I'm glad treason is just a casual thing to these people

[–]ordinaryrendition 158 points159 points ago

Jesus Christ, look at the differences between the comments in the original story and ones like this.

[–]Nutchos 168 points169 points ago

Yea, honestly I don't know what to make of it.

I lost a lot of faith in Reddit reading the comments in the original story. A good majority of the up-voted comments were extremely bigoted/racist.

[–]Beelzebud 166 points167 points ago

When the going gets rough, the average go conservative. --Henry Rollins

[–]NeoPlatonist 39 points40 points ago

Someone sent me a private message calling me a 'stinky sand nigger', which is funny because I'm a white American. Also, a veteran.

[–]PortAltepa 132 points133 points ago

I can't tell you how disheartening that was to read as a Brown-AmericanTM . Seems to be hundreds of redditors, supposedly people who are progressive and supporting marriage rights and all that just taking a giant dump on Muslims or wanting to use nuclear weapons (!!!) in retaliation. It was sad and terrifying and made me wonder whether most people who use reddit even know Muslims in their personal life.

[–]ZOOMj 102 points103 points ago

As a Yellow-AmericanTM, I can tell you reddit has never been especially friendly to minorities.

[–]ireadanddontpost 88 points89 points ago

As a Jew®©™(All Rights Reserved), yep.

[–]WeaselJester 60 points61 points ago

As a non denominational white dude I'd like to say sorry and that you are all more than welcome to raid my fridge for a beer.

[–]Thankful_Lez 18 points19 points ago

Gay, Jewish woman checking in. I concur, but haven't gone through the paperwork yet for the symbols.

[–]ireadanddontpost 14 points15 points ago

Have you already registered with your local Jewish Agenda Office branch? They usually take care of that for you.

[–]El_Cholo 14 points15 points ago

The one I went to looked kind of sketchy, but they gave me a gold star to signify my paperwork all checked out. Is this normal?

[–]Frankocean2 13 points14 points ago

Mexican here, they just like us for our food :(

[–]Thankful_Lez 9 points10 points ago

Well, I was going to, but it conflicted with the Gay Agenda, so I figured I'd wait until after the election year is over.

[–]leica-boss 12 points13 points ago

Totally agree with you, I was disgusted by some of the things I read on here today.

[–]benicek 34 points35 points ago

I read two comments and closed the thread. The worst of reddit came out in that post

[–]waefret 7 points8 points ago

As silly as this might sound, I actually can't find it; would anyone mind linking? Search function didn't work for some reason.

[–]othellothewise 15 points16 points ago

Sure, http://www.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/zrb8x/us_ambassador_and_3_staff_members_killed_in_an/

Just don't post anything that's about understanding other human beings instead of blindly wanting to nuke them or you'll be downvoted.

[–]allthatsalsa 1201 points1202 points ago

I bet you this story gets swept under the rug by the major news outlets. They only deal in bad apples.

Edit: I guess I lost.

[–]rciccia 11 points12 points ago

The pro-US march was just mentioned on NBC Nightly News twice. They also portrayed the Libyan attackers as militants.

In my mind they did a good job covering the issue.

[–]imbignate 900 points901 points ago

"Obama administration diplomats labeled "friends" of Muslim extremists! More tonight on Fox"

[–]OnceButNeverAgain 316 points317 points ago

Don't give them any ideas....

[–]Jmohl 291 points292 points ago

They are reporting it right now actually. lol

[–]Fuentidos 222 points223 points ago

Yep. "Obama apologizes to Muslim extremists."

[–]Wolf97 108 points109 points ago

Seriously? Can you link it?

[–]itslikedatchall 176 points177 points ago

Says quite a bit about Fox when you can't tell if this is an actual headline or just sarcasm. I'm leaning slightly towards sarcasm.

[–]bladerbot 201 points202 points ago

Headline: Muslims Attack US Embassy, Burn American Flag on 9/11, While Team Obama Apologizes

http://nation.foxnews.com/egypt-protests/2012/09/11/muslims-attack-us-embassy-burn-american-flag-911-while-team-obama-apologizes

[–]AlaskaManiac 69 points70 points ago

In the article, they didn't even try to explain the President Obama part of the headline.

[–]micromonas 19 points20 points ago

I hate that expression. As if politics is some goddamn entertainment sports franchise

[–]LockenessMonster 122 points123 points ago

Fucking Fox. A televised event of human devolution.

I think I see 'Fox New's' on Reddit more than any other place.

[–]jesusinabottle 160 points161 points ago

Probably because you don't watch Fox News.

[–]notAtomicBaum 58 points59 points ago

To be fair, Fox New does own a lot of really interesting things.

[–]elementalist 107 points108 points ago

Well it supports an industry of fact checkers, you have to give them that.

[–]heterozombie 8 points9 points ago

Why don't the news outlets have these pictures? I googled "Libya Apologizes". The top story is indeed about Libya apologizing for the riot but it's all about the Libyan president apologizing. This is news and should be reported. People would be very interested.

[–]Pirate_King 25 points26 points ago

I don't know about that. This is the sort of pro-America story that might just get picked up.

[–]Sweddy 45 points46 points ago

I'm glad that they know the same applies to us [U.S.].

[–]TruthRage 46 points47 points ago

It's always like this on the internet, people see news, get mad, proceed to call an entire people and religion(1 billion people) names and generalizing and dehumanizing them in the process.

You should see some of the crap they are saying on the main Reddit post....they are treating every Muslim as if they are in the same bunch, when in fact, the protests and horrible things that happened weren't caused by the majority.

Reddit likes to talk alot about bullshit they clearly have no freaking clue about...it's really disgraceful to see comments that call Muslims and Arabs such degrading horrible things, and seeing them up voted in the hundreds, this just proves how solid the Reddit mentality is, hive mind loves to hate things just for the sake of hating it.

[–]behedge 16 points17 points ago

It's not just the internet. I watched the 102 minutes documentary on the History Channel last night about the September 11 attacks. If you have not watched this documentary I highly suggest it. One of the most disturbing parts to me was the reaction of some on the day of the attack basically saying we should flatten all of the arab countries in response to what happened. This is on the day of the attacks when it had not even been confirmed who carried out the attacks. It's sad how many people's first reaction is hate.

[–]parapa_the_rapist 14 points15 points ago

I think also that you should keep in mind that these people commenting may not really feel as strongly normally as they do right now.

Just as you would ask for tolerance and understanding for the Libyans, please try to remember that 9/11 is already a pretty emotional day for Americans, and having Muslim extremists burn down a consulate and kill an ambassador (especially an ambassador really did seem to care about Libya, and helped them with their revolution) over some Youtube video that nobody in the US had ever even heard of might tend to inflame some passions.

People will calm down, those who were idiots before will continue to be so, but the normal person who is angry and upset will return to real life when the emotions fade away.

[–]SBecker30 52 points53 points ago

Perfectly stated, friend. I really hope that for the sake of our children that we will one day see peace and ceoexistance among all religions.

[–]RIP_KING 34 points35 points ago

there's always money in the bad apple cart.

[–]cf18 82 points83 points ago

Also lost in the noise - several Libyan security officers were also killed in the attack Tuesday night.

New source

[–]EquinsuOcha 231 points232 points ago

Do you have a link to the original source pictures? I wanna repost on FB since I'm currently arguing with several people.

[–]libyaitalia[S] 403 points404 points ago

[–]Dance_Luke_Dance 55 points56 points ago

Go forth and argue!

[–]Tofm 181 points182 points ago

[–]coelomate 79 points80 points ago

This image doesn't have nearly enough homophobic language used quazi-ironically in it.

[–]omnilynx 204 points205 points ago

This is good. I actually think this could be a catalyzing event for Libya, driving them to a solid stance against Islamic extremism. At least, I hope that is what happens.

[–]rollerboogie 55 points56 points ago

It'll be an Islamic state if it becomes a democracy.

[–]pholland167 157 points158 points ago

You're more than likely correct, but remember:

Islamic state =/= Extremist state

[–]ConorKenny 31 points32 points ago

Actually, the secular parties won a plurality in the June elections there.

[–]bemanijunkie 30 points31 points ago

Not disagreeing but not hopeful either.

[–]Andre7723 107 points108 points ago

I just want to go out there and say: Libya, we know. Ambassador Stevens found something in your country that he loved and wanted to fight for. This is not how he would want relations between the US and Libya to develop into. There are always a few who do heinous actions. It is these people who get the media attention. Instead it should be the people out there in Libya grieving over a friend, as Ambassador Stevens, if anything, was a friend of Libya.

[–]onfia 4 points5 points ago

[–]thirdfounder 68 points69 points ago

the politics of any post-revolutionary state are volatile. God bless these people and keep them safe, because they have an opposite number in Libya.

[–]pepsi_next 888 points889 points ago

Just goes to show that you should never judge a group of people by the actions of a select few.

[–]mrcloudies 796 points797 points ago

It's like someone judging americans based on the actions of the Westborro baptist church.

[–]Sweedo 538 points539 points ago

Which we see on reddit every day!

Or judging all Christians.

[–]Notees 205 points206 points ago

Or judging all atheists based on some of the more hostile ones on reddit. Let's love? Let's love.

[–]pmanly 64 points65 points ago

As a Christian, internet embrace

[–]esvilanova 37 points38 points ago

As a Muslim, internet embrace back

[–]icalledshotgun 15 points16 points ago

As another Christian, awkwardly creates internet group hug

[–]AdmiralSkippy 43 points44 points ago

QUIT TRYING TO CONVERT ME!!!

[–]pmanly 57 points58 points ago

Oh shit, they're on to us! Grabs Bible and scurries away

[–]OFraggy 22 points23 points ago

that made me shudder...

[–]AlanLolspan 105 points106 points ago

Does that include this select few?

[–]headed4anonymity 69 points70 points ago

No, it's totally ok to judge based on this select few because they are doing something we like and support our previous positions.

[–]smoothtrip 27 points28 points ago

The irony of the situation is that the protests across the Islamic Nations were against America because of a very select few in America decided to make a video insulting their prophet.

It seems we all could learn from this.

[–]JoePurdy 67 points68 points ago

So we can't judge them on the actions of a few... but we are supposed to look at this very small crowd of people and assume they represent the whole country? You can't tell me to ignore one small group and pay all of my attention to another small group.

[–]ChocolateHead 31 points32 points ago

How about you just not assume a small group represents everybody?

[–]DancesWithSpoons 49 points50 points ago

That Pehavior guy went all Benjamin Button on us, you can see him get progressively younger. Incredible.

[–]Yeah_lm_That_Guy 17 points18 points ago

I feel so sorry for those living places like that, where the action of few can condemn so many into an unsafe and unknown future. Compare those two demonstrations, where the first one was anti-, and the second one is pro (sending condolences) US. People probably wont bother with their sympathy, choose to overlook it, and build hatred to the actions and people of Libya.

[–]andrewsmith1986 389 points390 points ago

Can anyone translate the Arabic?

[–]libyaitalia[S] 829 points830 points ago

  • man in #2 and #22 holds sign "no place for Qaida within us", the woman "we made the revolution and we have to protect it"

  • the kid in #6 holds sign "no no to the al Qaida", the man holds sign "no to qaida, no to terrorism, this is youth revolution" (referring to the libyan revolution),

  • 8 woman holds sign "stop the denial, we want real reactions (from the gov)"(referring to the violence)

edit: added some new pics

  • #19 "no to libya with a taste of terrorism"

[–]rossiFan 159 points160 points ago

...but the kid holding the sign in 4 just said "Hi Mom!".

[–]Schmogel 41 points42 points ago

[–]Mackinstyle 77 points78 points ago

Muhammad 3:16

He was on his way to a ball game.

[–]rjworks13 11 points12 points ago

"Hi Mom" is like a universal code for peace.

[–]wq678 60 points61 points ago

As an Egyptian Muslim, I can't express how disgusted I am by the people who attacked the US Embassies in Libya and Egypt.

The US Ambassador was great man and friend to all Arab people. It fills me with rage that a bunch of Al Qaeda fuckfaces murdered such a great man.

[–]wazooasiteverwas 13 points14 points ago

As an American agnostic I'm happy the majority are people like you. The shitty people always get the airtime while normal hard working people rarely get a voice.

The vast majority of people here are the same, we don't hate Arab people any more than we hate ourselves. The vocal minority really do skew the way things look. You have hundreds of millions of friends over here hoping to see peace and prosperity in your part of the world.

[–]andrewsmith1986 111 points112 points ago

Thank you.

[–]Elementium 32 points33 points ago

People are so chipper in this thread..

This is good. I'm just as pissed off as anyone else but this could turn a horrible situation into something good. These people are pretty brave themselves, considering the extremists seem to have no limits on who they'll hurt.

I hope this solidifies peoples stance against terrorism in Egypt.

[–]MrKrazybones 11 points12 points ago

Im on to you libyaitalia

[–]shiv52 46 points47 points ago

Every time there is one of these incidents i ask "Where are the moderate Muslim voices?" For one of the first times i see them. Need more of this.

[–]Golgatem 27 points28 points ago

Moderate Muslims spend a lot of time condemning these attacks, c.f. this video of CAIR representatives. It's just not considered newsworthy.

[–]Karl_Marx_[!] 31 points32 points ago

This is heart warming. I wish the world had more solidarity.

[–]BringerOfPaine 9 points10 points ago

Of course you do Karl.

Seriously though. We get it. Many of us Americans don't buy into this false image. We see through it just like you do. Even though I am a red blooded American through and through, I want you guys to know that I love you. I consider you my brother's and sisters. You are welcome in my home any time.

[–]riyadhelalami 33 points34 points ago

Thank you Bro, we love you and I want to let you know, neither our Traditions nor our Religion tells us terrorize innocent people like you, it is even one of the prophets will to be good to the non believers and to take care of them.

[–]bigbert81 334 points335 points ago

This brought a tear to my eye.

I'd upvote this a hundred times if I could.

[–]Nick2632 60 points61 points ago

I just hope it never gets to the point where someone feels they must show sympathy for us out of fear for being attacked by us -- just for associating with a group that otherwise strives for peace.

[–]AcrimoniousButtock 97 points98 points ago

Shows that deep down, we are all just humans.

[–]slithymonster 102 points103 points ago

Everyone poops.

[–]Joe_Kehr 76 points77 points ago

Except girls.

[–]skakruk 8 points9 points ago

I'm almost sure that girls poop too. It will never be 100% proven by science, like many other things, but that's when Faith enters.

[–]treycook 8 points9 points ago

Sometimes.

[–]kbergstr 7 points8 points ago

This will probably get lost, but I got a bit of a tear in my eye from the showing of support from the people of Libya.

Thank you for the kind thoughts and I hope you know that despite the rhetoric thrown around many, many of us here are thrilled at the acts of heroism that it took for everyday people to stand up during the Arab spring movement in Libya and across the Arab world. We know that despite the highly visible acts of certain fanatics, the followers of Muhammad are a good people who deserve to live in a free and self-determined country.

There are many here who are worried that the majority of peace loving people in your country and the dozens of others won't be able to keep the fundamentalist, militant minority out of power, but there are also many here who believe that you have the right to live without domination from outside forces. I wish you, your countrymen, and all who wish for the right to create a peaceful and self-determining country the best of luck in these difficult times. I know that those of you that stand against such actions are among the greatest heroes in the world today.

As-Salāmu Alaykum

[–]my_fucks_are_missing 85 points86 points ago

Holy shit. I am not an easily moved person, but damn, this sign of unity and love is such a great example of how awesome humanity can be. My eyes watered up a bit; no lie.

[–]curiousshortguy 50 points51 points ago

Seems like you found some of your fucks!

[–]willreed03 17 points18 points ago

This is reassuring and I can not understand why it has not received more attention on reddit. Upvotes all around for sensible, peaceful folks.

[–]maxmackie 24 points25 points ago

Is it just me or do most of the people in those pictures seem MUCH less "conservative" or "traditional" than the ones in the riot pictures. Very few large beards and traditional thowbs.

Not a racist comment, just an observation I made.

[–]yellowstone14 78 points79 points ago

I don't see this demonstration being reported anywhere on news sites - cnn, bbc, al jazeera - I would think they would pick it up as part of the story

[–]plaidjob 33 points34 points ago

This was beautiful. Thank you.

[–]Murder_Ballads 113 points114 points ago

1.Eslam 2.???? 3.Profit

[–]Golgatem 85 points86 points ago

Arabic doesn't have different letters for "e" and "i"; they're considered the same vowel. الإسلام‎ can be transliterated "al-Islam" or "al-Eslam," although obviously one of those is more standard than the other.

TYL.

[–]ujussab 41 points42 points ago

English is not their first language

Also I'm pretty sure they meant prophet and Islam

[–]OrlandoMagik 6 points7 points ago

OP surely knows this, but he is making a joke based off the underpants gnome meme from south park. I doubt he is trying to be offensive, and the words on the sign fit the paradigm pretty well, therefore making this pretty hilarious. I'm going to upvote, and other people should as well, but i would say not so much that this is the top comment because clearly this photoset is more meaningful than for just joking around with.

[–]MasterOfTurtles 7 points8 points ago

Thanks for this. I was pretty astounded at what I was seeing on the news. They completely disregarded everything like this, and to be completely honest, I was even starting to buy into it. It just makes me sad that a handful of asshats can ruin the reputations of those around them, especially when the majority of people aren't bad at all. Fucking twats.

[–]Matrinka 6 points7 points ago

I feel like such a pussy for tearing up at this a bit. I know the world isn't fair and neither is life... but the fact that people still have to demonstrate to show that ALL of their people aren't represented by a few bad apples just makes me sad. I'm just happy to see some good people make a stand in a difficult situation.

[–]mrcloudies 282 points283 points ago

More americans need to see this.

We cannot lump all the people of the middle east in with terrorists and extremists. I have known several Muslims in my life, and I know many Christians who are infinitely more radical and prone to violence than they are.

There are over a billion Muslims. You cannot say one view point is shared by that many people, it simply isn't true.

[–]rollerboogie 16 points17 points ago

That's true. There are a lot of nice muslims. There are also terrorists. We shouldn't ignore either.

[–]Adultery 37 points38 points ago

we're all just primates on a rock

[–]rossiFan 40 points41 points ago

Monkey killing monkey killing monkey

Over pieces of the ground.

Silly monkeys give them thumbs,

They forge a blade,

And where there's one

they're bound to divide it,

Right in two.

Right in two.

[–]Sanity_prevails 10 points11 points ago

Profit is our prophet too! I am sure we can agree ;)

[–]itsme_timd 5 points6 points ago

Everyone needs to see this. It's so unfortunate that this doesn't make major headlines like violence does.

[–]Fangheart 4 points5 points ago

Shows people are people. What a wonderful demonstration for humanity.

[–]Thompsons 10 points11 points ago

This is pretty awesome of them to do this... I was super heated this morning over the whole thing. I was trying to keep a level head about it, but it was hard not to get angry and think badly of islam. I would like to personally thank them.

[–]Ryplayer 21 points22 points ago

This is fantastic. Shows how quick people are to judge.

[–]StewieBanana 18 points19 points ago

The thing about this post that makes me feel bad the most is that OP felt this post wouldn't do well unless he/she apologized for the spelling errors of other people who presumably don't even speak English very often.

[–]jeeebus 23 points24 points ago

Interestingly enough, we worship profit in the US so that sign is pretty solid.

[–]theoretical-narrator 4 points5 points ago

I wonder if the people in these photos risk their lives in expressing pro-American sentiments. I would hope not. But I hope for a lot of things.

[–]GoyoTattoo 4 points5 points ago

Thank you for posting this, and for anyone who participated.
