A place to share interesting photographs and pictures. Feel free to post your own, but please read the rules first (see below), and note that we are not a catch-all for general images (of screenshots, comics, etc.)

Please mark spoilers like this:

Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

the northern portion of the tepui, mostly in Guyana, with less explored and more intriguing sites such as Lake Gladys

Holy shit. This is actually Conan Doyle's Lost World.

[–]watchesyoueat 3 points4 points ago

I was totally just thinking this

[–]Cabdrivers 62 points63 points ago

[–]Keane1522 11 points12 points ago

[–]nouveau1 6 points7 points ago

It's like America.. but south.

[–]Matteas 60 points61 points ago

the perfect place for a zombie apocalypse.

[–]tank_girl_90 10 points11 points ago

my thoughts exactly. to the choppers!!!

[–]dingofarmer2004 14 points15 points ago

I find this location to be safe from zombies and raptors. I shall move there forthwith.

[–]roflocalypselol 6 points7 points ago

Or...to BREED raptors, etc.

[–]Flytch 7 points8 points ago

Can raptors use parachutes?

[–]roflocalypselol 4 points5 points ago

Let us hope not.

[–]bigbankdank -1 points0 points ago

Clever girl.

[–]Terrible_Wingman -1 points0 points ago

What would they parachute from?

[–]aztechunter -1 points0 points ago

Not yet.

[–]lkeazy -1 points0 points ago

to hunt zombies for us

[–]cleversoundguy -1 points0 points ago

oh no. zombie raptors.

[–]Dekar2401 -1 points0 points ago

I would like to be part of this project. I would also like for the raptors to have lasers on their arms.

[–]Komcor 0 points1 point ago

Sure, breed the raptors so when they hatch they can all just run off the cliff and it will rain raptors, it's the perfect Apocalypse.

[–]washmo 0 points1 point ago

GET TO DA CHOPAHHHHH!!!

[–]daman345 -1 points0 points ago

Would you rather deal with Zombies or murderous apemen and bloodthirsty dinosaurs?

[–]deja-vu-comment 23 points24 points ago

That is the place they land on firstly in UP isn't it?

.

[–]minimumtill 11 points12 points ago

I think UP is based more in the Angel Falls' Tepui called Kerepakupai meru. The Canaima National park has lots of these plateau like mountains. It is an awesome site, my favorite place in the world.

[–]wpnw 13 points14 points ago

Kerepakupai Meru is the native name for Angel Falls. The Tepui is called Auyan. /thatguy

[–]minimumtill 3 points4 points ago

You are totally right.

[–]dohse 2 points3 points ago

Not sure if casually namedropping world travels or revealing secret hobby of "collecting" places via the internet . . .

[–]minimumtill 4 points5 points ago

I'm actually from Venezuela and I was born in a city around 6 hours from that place. I'm not a globetrotter but I love this place.

[–]FatKidzDream 6 points7 points ago

Wow, that looks so supernatural.

[–]Bork07 9 points10 points ago

"Dean, I'm not sure this is our kind of thing."

How delightful, an exquisite location for my new lair.

[–]landaaan 8 points9 points ago

You'll have to upgrade your overlords first.

[–]Ego-Death 4 points5 points ago

Looks like steak sitting atop a sea of mashed potatoes........and thats how I know I'm hungry.

[–]dagoff 5 points6 points ago

Thanks for that imagry, Uncle Phil.

[–]OpusThePenguin 9 points10 points ago

Where's the house with the balloons?

[–]gabypoo 8 points9 points ago

Venezuela man... my country is goddamn beautiful!

[–]The_Colonel1292 2 points3 points ago

Until Chavez was elected.

[–]PKMKII 5 points6 points ago

Oh yeah, because the leadership before Chavez that just redirected the supposedly national profits of the oil industry to the elites and generally ignored the poor, just awesome.

EDIT: not to mention that their preferred method of fighting Chavez isn't at the ballot, it's with armed coups.

[–]JaseFace 1 point2 points ago

The last attempted coup was over a decade ago. Since then, Chavez has centralized power, annihilated the free media and arrested or indicted almost every single opposition Mayor or Governor who wins an election. Not to mention the fact that Venezuela's economy remains, at best, a middling one in Latin America when, properly managed, it could be near the top.

[–]PKMKII 0 points1 point ago

I'm not saying that Chavez is perfect, I'm saying that the alternative is just as bad, if not worse. The_Colonel1292 was making it sound like it was paradise before Chavez.

[–]BowsNToes21 2 points3 points ago

Don't understand the down vote, their murder and crime rate far exceeds that of Mexico and that is saying something. Also there is the fact that their politics are extremely corrupt.

[–]the_goat_boy 3 points4 points ago

What does the murder rate in Caracas have to do with Chavez? It's a local matter.

[–]BowsNToes21 -1 points0 points ago

The local politics has everything to do with the murder rate, when you have a corrupt government the murder rate of the country is also higher. Also his policies have hurt the country and created far more poverty, thus increasing the crime rate.

[–]gabypoo -4 points-3 points ago

[–]QuantumPenguin 3 points4 points ago

Brb, just tying balloons to my house.

[–]arcsine 5 points6 points ago

[–]agoodz 1 point2 points ago

I thought the exact same thing... I loved that game.

[–]Dekar2401 1 point2 points ago

Which game?

[–]agoodz 2 points3 points ago

Skies of Arcadia on Sega Dreamcast.

[–]Nulavits 3 points4 points ago

Why is there not a fortress built on that?!!?!

[–]Aa5bDriver 1 point2 points ago

It is the fortress.

[–]Hambone4097 0 points1 point ago

TIL UP

[–]cornelius_z 3 points4 points ago

It's very unique and cool on top of Roraima. There's Quartz crystal rivers that wind around the small valleys. Very unique plants and animals which reminded me of something you would expect at the bottom of a small ocean.

Bonus story. There was four us cramped up inside one tent, a very smelly and hot place to be. At about 11:00 I got out the tent, lay down in the sand (yes... sand) outside the tent in my sleeping bag and fell asleep under the stars a mile in the sky. It was perfectly warm and comfortable, it was one of the best nights sleep I had whilst trekking.

[–]Enjoiissweet 2 points3 points ago

Was it right on top of that huge plateau? How did you set that up, it seems like something I'd be very interested in.

[–]hotre_editor 1 point2 points ago

More more more! How did you get there?

[–]Jay180 0 points1 point ago

Dammit cornelius, we need to know!

[–]pieps 4 points5 points ago

[–]herpVSderp 2 points3 points ago

winter is coming

[–]jnulynne 1 point2 points ago

Fist of the First Men is what I thought.

[–]RobertNevill 0 points1 point ago

This is my dream house location

[–]Telesystematic 1 point2 points ago

Bang, bang! Once the smoke has cleared, after all the clouds have cleared, another risky venture, that sure would be the clincher, My spirit of adventure is you!

[–]afsdjkll 0 points1 point ago

It's not really a lost world if you know exactly where it is.

[–]J0hnR0gers 0 points1 point ago

Reminds me of a "comic" book. Was french iirc.

Had a setting like this but everything below the fog had been burned/scarred.

The bookseries also had a bunch of people training for space on spherical spaceships.

Anyone remember this?

[–]zstraigh 1 point2 points ago

Anyone else really want to build a castle there, or is it just me?

[–]Eddie_The_Brewer 0 points1 point ago

First Explorer: The forbidden plateau of Roiurama, the Lost World, thrown up by mighty earth movements thousands of millions of years ago, where strange primeval creatures defying evolution, lurk in the dark, impenetrable forests, cut off forever from the outside world.

Second Explorer: I still can't see it.

[–]thermal_shock 0 points1 point ago

i wonder why no civilization ever built a castle on top. seems easy to defend. only issue would be water, etc that i can see.

[–]aztechunter 1 point2 points ago

According to this, it rains quite a bit. I would think gathering the materials to build a castle up there would be the difficult and besides religious reasons (temple instead of a castle), there wouldn't be much of a point to constructing it.

[–]lordkrike 1 point2 points ago

Castles not only have to be easy to defend, they also have to project power. At the top of that, you won't control any trade routes/roads and your enemy is completely free to circumvent you.

[–]archenon 0 points1 point ago

Well I know where I'm headed to if there's ever a zombie outbreak..

[–]VICITCLOTHING 0 points1 point ago

Steak. looks like steak

[–]Lukianox 0 points1 point ago

Is that a pool?

[–]Horsehumper 0 points1 point ago

So this is where Carl Fredrickson went.

[–]Llim 0 points1 point ago

Perfect spot for wingsuit flying/hangliding

[–]tophmctoph 1 point2 points ago

There is a discovery channel series called out of the wild venezuala where they start on top of mount roraima

[–]saficus 2 points3 points ago

As a person of Guyanese descent, this makes me happy. It's a developing country that has heaps of potential for eco-tourism to become a booming industry. One day!

[–]kingclarkeson -1 points0 points ago

WHERE IS THE HOUSE FROM UP

[–]Defender 0 points1 point ago

The first thing I thought was that I'd need a Gold Chocobo to get there.

[–]la_Policia_Ideologia 0 points1 point ago

You couldn't be more specific than South America?

[–]AhhhClem 0 points1 point ago

Is that not the Mutia Escarpment where Tarzan lives?

[–]SillyPickle -1 points0 points ago
