Who buys a shirt for 97 bucks?

[–]signalrocker 3 points4 points ago

I can't math.

courtesy of Yahoo Answers

You borrowed 50 dollars from mom and dad right? So we have $-100 in your "imaginary account" because you OWED them 100 dollars. You spent 97 and got 3 dollars back. You put pay back 2 dollars of debt: -98 in account. So you have 98 DEBT left. Not the money, the DEBT.

The 100 dollars the money itself: Borrowed 100 dollars total so you have 100 dollars Spent 97 dollars, so now you have 3 dollars. The store has the 97 dollars. Pay back mom and dad, so they have 2 dollars. You have 1 dollars left.

Your money+mom and dad's money+store's money=100 ? Yes: 1+2+97=100.

Right. The error that makes this dumb is that at the end it treats the money you don't have and the money you do have as the same thing.

You have -98 dollars, plus one dollar that you still have, so you have -97 dollars.

First grade fucking math.

Here is a better explanation of what is said:

50 + 50 = 100 (Borrowed + Borrowed)

97 + 3 = 100 (Spent + Leftover)

97 +2 +1 =100 (Spent + Paid Back + Stolen and in your pocket)

49 + 49 -1 = 97 (Stupid Maths)

I was going to upvote until I saw Yahoo.... I'd WTF that you'd have to yahoo it....

[–]BlkVooDoo 0 points1 point ago

I am being lazy and just googled it. That was the top one.

[–]Kehndy12 1 point2 points ago

$49 + $49 = $98 + your $1 = $99.

I don't even understand what is being added up here. Yea, you owe your parents $98, but why add the $1 you kept?

[–]azazual 0 points1 point ago

the last line where it says 49 + 49 = 98 should have plus the $2 you gave to your parents = 100 the plus $1 is a red herring as it is not a part of that equation

[–]eighty_billion 2 points3 points ago

Okay, so assuming you pay the debt eventually in full, you actually owe your mom and dad 48.50 each.

100 borrowed from parents, 97 spent, remainder 3 dollars.

97/2 = 48.50

But it says you initially give a dollar each to your mom, your dad, and you keep one for yourself. So!

Mom gets 48.50 back, plus the 1 = 49.50 Dad gets 48.50 back, plus the 1 = 49.50 You keep 1 dollar

So all together we have 49.50+49.50+1 = 100.

Hope that helps.

EDIT: Redundant figures

I came here to say this exact thing. Thank you for being the only one so far to actually realize $97 does not divide up evenly. Have an upvote!
