A statue, albeit a creepy one.

[–]Nomiss 48 points49 points ago

*A surf board rack.

It is either a kuta lines rack or billabong, there are thousands of them in surf shops. If I remember they're called tiki. The reason it is blurred is because its worth around $4-8k and they didn't want it showing up on google images because of thieves.

[–]ravelle 8 points9 points ago

I wouldn't expose a $4-8k item on my balcony like that.

[–]ThisFiasco 0 points1 point ago

You might if you had no other option. That statue looks to be pretty big, surfboards are also pretty big. Maybe the owner just doesn't have much space in his house.

[–]Fallenangel152 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, I remember this coming up in another thread and it turned out it holds surfboards.

[–]darkmooninc 7 points8 points ago

Someone called this one out a while ago. It's a tiki statue.

[–]PKrising24 0 points1 point ago

glad to know, that really rustled my jimmies.

[–]XdannyX 38 points39 points ago

For everybody wondering what it is it's just a Hawaiian Surfboard holder. It was settled in 4chan, then /r/4chan, then in wtf. Now we can all loosen our grip on our crossbows and stop clenching our cheeks. We live for yet another day

[–]Zygady 10 points11 points ago

I shall never let my crossbow go. Constant vigilance as mad eye taught us.

[–]shannbot 0 points1 point ago

I accept your answer, or at least I don't believe it's paranormal at all, but I've lived in Hawaii almost my entire life (still do), and have been to many of the islands, and I've never seen this kind of thing. Maybe it's Californian or from another popular surfer locale, but given the name "Hawaiian", because Hawaii is so associated with surfing.

[–]FuzzyBlumpkinz 1 point2 points ago

I'm more concerned about why this is still a thing. It's been reposted how many hundreds of times over Reddit over the past 2-3 years?

[–]dhoomz 9 points10 points ago

scary, but what does it need a bike for?

[–]Fishtails[S] 34 points35 points ago

Running errands, leisure, etc.

[–]dhoomz 0 points1 point ago

Mog, I wonder what university it attends..

[–]keymaster999 4 points5 points ago

Aliens are very conscious of their carbon footprint.

[–]BaobhanSith 2 points3 points ago

They have to be, what with some of them having three or more feet.

[–]keymaster999 0 points1 point ago

Buzinga

[–]purplemacaroni 6 points7 points ago

Come on now, this is just silly. It's obviously a statue.

[–]ofthe5thkind 22 points23 points ago

What is the logical process that would cause someone to attribute these photos to something paranormal? What is your standard of evidence for believing that something is true?

[–]rigamortus76 3 points4 points ago

What is this "standard of evidence" you speak of? If someone doesn't immediately know what something is, what caused something to happen, etc., then the explanation is most likely paranormal. That's just sound logic.

Edit: /sarcasm

[–]chingis_christ 4 points5 points ago

this is not sound logic at all.

[–]I-baLL 6 points7 points ago

whoosh.

[–]chingis_christ 0 points1 point ago

whoops. i probably shouldn't reddit at an [8].

[–]b0dhi -5 points-4 points ago

What is your standard of evidence for believing that something is true?

Nobody said they believed this was paranormal. The title says "may have". Learn to read.

[–]ofthe5thkind 4 points5 points ago

Nobody said they believed this was paranormal.

This original post is in /r/Paranormal. You replied to me in /r/Paranormal. I'm replying back to you right now in /r/Paranormal.

[–]b0dhi -4 points-3 points ago

Apparently, understanding the difference between belief and consideration is beyond you.

[–]ofthe5thkind 3 points4 points ago

My question is: What is the logical process that would cause someone to attribute these photos to something paranormal? If you want to replace "attribute" with "consider," that's fine. The question still stands and nothing has changed.

And there's no need for your "learn to read" and "beyond you" inclusions.

[–]b0dhi -5 points-4 points ago

My question is

It isn't a question: understood in context with the rest of the post, it's an insinuation. Last post to you.

[–]ofthe5thkind 1 point2 points ago

note the 167 upboats

I did. A blurred photograph of a surf board rack is currently the most popular post in /r/Paranormal because someone thought it could be a "humanoid."

It doesn't speak well for this sub-reddit's collective standard of evidence.

[–]n00bers 1 point2 points ago

What is that thing, for serious.

[–]DimKingdom 2 points3 points ago

wooden statue faux Polynesian origin?

[–]n00bers 0 points1 point ago

Why is it blurred then?

[–]DimKingdom 2 points3 points ago

Their algorithim was tricked into thinking it human, maybe?

They probably also notice when there is a flurry of activity concentrated on one site, and take pre-emptive action. After all, it's not like every other country in Europe is trying to sue them for privacy infringement!

Still do not see why this would be considered paranormal though...

[–]Nomiss -1 points0 points ago

Thieves.

It is worth quite a few 1000 and is sought after by collectors. Google would do the same for you if you wanted a costly item blurred out of your residence also.

[–]b0dhi 4 points5 points ago

Yes, because putting it on an open balcony in full view of passing traffic is a good way to keep thieves away, and it's also Google's job to make sure nobody puts their own property at risk.

[–]yiNXs 1 point2 points ago

I wouldn't be surprised if Gppg;e removed this because it could indicate that this piece of "art" could be found in this house, as sort of a safety measure or something like that.

That is, until they make a searchengine that locates these kinds of things for you.

[–]cptstupendous 2 points3 points ago

;p;

[–]elsharkmom 2 points3 points ago

Google has a program that automatically blurs human shapes, like face tracker on newer cameras. It's just a program doing it's job...

[–]Hiftle88 2 points3 points ago

talk about clutching at straws

[–]kupo234 2 points3 points ago

as soon as I saw this, the coyotes in the woods by my house start howling. wish me luck getting to sleep, guize.

[–]Kacen 1 point2 points ago

I think there's some automatic system that censors out people, or at least semi-automatic and isn't thoroughly checked.

[–]s_hurst 0 points1 point ago

It looks like the wooden figures you can get at EarthBound. They are tall and wooden and hand carved. Almost bought one that looks like this one.

[–]femmenon 0 points1 point ago

I believe it was just a prop for Tales from the Crypt that someone got ahold of. Old news.

[–]kaydpea 1 point2 points ago

googles software auto-blurs what it identifies as people

[–]ghostly1001 0 points1 point ago

Thaaats a statue; a really ugly statue.

[–]s0x 0 points1 point ago

That face is pretty bone chilling.

[–]EmpressSharyl 1 point2 points ago

I saw this a couple of months ago. I just figured it's a statue. It doesn't look alive or anything. It is weird that they blurred the whole body.

[–]daftzilla 1 point2 points ago

Anyone else notice the odd graffiti below the balcony?

[–]cupids_hitman 0 points1 point ago

What graffiti? You mean the sign?

[–]daftzilla 0 points1 point ago

If you plug the address into google maps and look below the figure at the wall/fence near the road.

[–]cupids_hitman 0 points1 point ago

Oh, that graffiti. It just looks like normal graffiti to me.

[–]Audrion 1 point2 points ago

It looks like a human shape so Google automatically blurs it out. Just like with license plates.

[–]hvn_bside_u 0 points1 point ago

[–]BaobhanSith 0 points1 point ago

They probably blurred it out because it looks like it's naked.

[–]NopeCopter 1 point2 points ago

[–]kyranmat 0 points1 point ago

It just looks like either a statue or a poorly done animation to me.

[–]inblackheels 0 points1 point ago

I have a very hard time believing anyone thought this was a 'humanoid.'
