Right there with ya.

[–]Roflcopter_Yes 2 points3 points ago

I've had strep for over a week now.

[–]GeladodeBenuron 5 points6 points ago

Chooo Chooo! All aboard the strep train. Next stop: AIDS.

[–]run2flygurl 2 points3 points ago

I had an antibiotic resistant strain of Strep group c bacteria (causes incredibly painful tonsillitis) for the last 8 months, which led to tonsil abscesses. I just had my tonsils taken out and now the scabs are starting to peel off. You know nothing of tonsil pain, young one. Absolutely nothing.

[–]GearsofPinata 0 points1 point ago

Agreed. I had strep for 6 months straight. Then when you finally get you tonsilectomy to fix it, you're stuck in bed for two weeks.

I was one of the not so lucky kids growing up who had multiple cases of strep every single year but no doctor wanted to take my tonsils out. I started to have multiple cases of strep/tonsillitis in the summer when I was 24. I would go to the doctor, get antibiotics, tonsils would get better, but within two weeks I was back at the doctor for strep/tonsillitis. Finally after 8 rounds of antibiotics and another 3 1/2 weeks straight of antibiotics, I got to have a tonsillectomy. The first week sucked but i was eating eggs after a few days. The second week was just gross with the scabs falling off and I only had to take the pain medication at night to help me sleep. I didn't stay in bed much after that first week. I drank a lot of water/ginger ale and had a cool mist humidifier going 24/7. My recovery after the surgery went very well compared to the horror story my brother-in-law told me after I was all healed up. All I can say is that I love no longer having my tonsils and wish the doctors had just removed them sooner. I hope everything is going well with your recovery run2flygurl!

I also remember having a strep about 5 months ago, I have never had strep before, so I was basically lying in what seemed to be for me a death bad.

I wish I'd had this gif when I got mono last year.

[–]EchoFiveTwo 0 points1 point ago

Just got over mono last week, worst sore throat ever, headaches, fever, and it lasted for about a month.

[–]Chakks 4 points5 points ago

The caption doesn't match her mouth. That is incredibly fucking irritating.

I once got strep two days before I had a monthlong backpacking vacation planned to Central America. Didn't know it was strep until I was already there and my hands swelled up and I started to get red bumps on them and my chest, and inside my throat. Thank god I brought general antibiotics, which started working almost immediately. Still felt like swallowing knives for a week though :(

Get well soon OP!

[–]samma_jamma 1 point2 points ago

Woa. I get strep a lot and I never knew it could do that. I have oversized tonsils that no one wants to take out, so now I can tell I am getting it almost immediately and run to the doctors before it ever gets horrible. Still need time off, but not as bad as it could be.

Although as a kid, the first time I got it I remember it being so terrible and swallowing being so agonizing that I became very dehydrated. An entire thick layer of my lips started to peel off. It was disgusting.

But I am fortunate still that it never effected my other body parts.

[–]highfiveunicornbob 0 points1 point ago

I know, right? o.o Strep is awful.

Mine turned into scarlet fucking fever, like I was from the 1800s or something. Jeez. I don't know the exact science behind why it transformed but my hands were so swollen I could barely curl my fingers in to make a fist and that hurt a lot, plus being covered in red bumps. I only figured it out when I googled it and discovered that that's what was happening. That would be the only time WebMD has ever steered me right. (Every other time it's oh my god my leg hurts and I must have a blood clot.)

I feel so grateful to have had the foresight at that time to bring the antibiotics with me (thanks modern medicine!). I could have just purchased some from a pharmacy there in Latin America but in doing that you're taking your chances on the authenticity and effectiveness of the drug. It was literally night and day, from getting exponentially sicker to suddenly getting well.

So if you ever get a massive fever which comes down but leaves you with what feels like razors in your throat and swollen, painful extremities, get thee to a damned doctor, or at least take some antibiotics if you can't see a medical professional.

Ughhh I'm home sick too :-/

[–]Naranis 0 points1 point ago

Had it three times. Haven't had my tonsils out yet. That needs to happen. But yes, I know that feels. First time, couldn't talk for a week.

[–]A_British_Gentleman 0 points1 point ago

That gif sums up perfectly how I looked at my last job where I had to look cheerful all day.

[–]callsign_helo 0 points1 point ago

I once had strep and walking pneumonia at the same time. That was a shitty three weeks.

[–]LazyRobot 0 points1 point ago

A few weeks ago I rolled my ankle pretty badly and tore the ligament on the outside of my calf. Then I gave myself second degree burns with ice. And got a bad cold and fevers for a couple days. Misery.

[–]Mlee56 1 point2 points ago

Blah I have mono I feel you.

[–]willowsonthespot -1 points0 points ago

you have step..... i have no tonsils because of strep also almost went insane apparently due to copious amounts of drugs to kill it. that shit is nothing if you get it fast but if you wait then it sets in..... i fucking hate strep! oh and the reason i no longer have my tonsils is because i have 11 cases of strep in 2 months.

[–]K1985 0 points1 point ago

I get strep once a year around this time. Jussssst waiting for it now...

[–]rocketcraft 0 points1 point ago

Me too.

[–]lord_fairfax 0 points1 point ago

TAKE ALL OF YOUR ANTIBIOTICS. Strep can come back to kill you later on. Scares the shit out of me because I got it quite a few times when I was young and can't remember if I took them all...

Edit: not all at once.

[–]johndeere4450 0 points1 point ago

Woohoo, I have chronic strep throat, twice a year, every year. ( :P )

[–]vgman20 0 points1 point ago

Oh good I'm not alone. Though mine has slowed a lot.

[–]kwyjibo1230 1 point2 points ago

I had terrible tonsillitis. The most painful thing I have experienced in my life.

[–]whosthatgirl_me 0 points1 point ago

Just got strep today. This post is accurate.

[–]Seethinrabbit 0 points1 point ago

I just got over it. Lots of fluids and some antibiotics and you will be good in a few days.

[–]Dungeonbaus 0 points1 point ago

I had strep a few months ago, I could barely eat and I lost 8 pounds in one week.

[–]vgman20 0 points1 point ago

As an all too frequent contractor of strep, the worst part might just be the stupid throat culture. Pure torture.

[–]khaleesi_me_maybe 0 points1 point ago

Strep is the worst. A few years ago I kept getting it over and over again every few weeks. The doctors realized that the strep had colonized in the back of my throat, which just made me picture little pilgrim strep germs eating turkey and wearing bonnets and shoes with big brass buckles. Feel better soon!

[–]Cadrid 0 points1 point ago

When I was growing up I had a horrible habit of licking my fingers due to dry hands. As a result, I got Strep and Pinkeye like crazy, but rarely came down with any other illnesses.

A few years ago, I had Strep-like symptoms so I went in to get a test and called a couple days later asking about it. The tests were inconclusive for Strep or Mono, but I was at the point where it hurt to swallow even saliva, and impossible to eat or drink. I had a fatiguing fever, was frustrated when talking above a whisper and had been putting up with it for over a week (3 days out of work).

After being prescribed ~2000mg daily dosage of Penicillin for the infection and ~1000mg of ibuprofen tablets to help the headaches and fever, I was back to work in a couple days.

That feeling of helplessness, lack of insight and yearning for sustenance pushed me to the brink of tears. Thank you to the man that prescribed people mold all those years ago.

[–]TheClayroo 0 points1 point ago

My doctor told me I'm probably immune to it. My brother had it 12 times while growing up and I never got it without taking any precautions. I'm told it's vicious.

[–]easybrowse 0 points1 point ago

I lost about 8 pounds when I had strep....

So there's that.

[–]Jhas253 0 points1 point ago

I had strep a while back, got prescribed amoxicillin and was allergic to that. So I had to wait till the strep just went away..

[–]drdipepper 0 points1 point ago

My condolences. Feel better soon.

[–]MeatLord 0 points1 point ago

I was dating a girl a few years ago and she got strep like 3 times in a 4 month or so period of us dating, so even though i had no symptoms whatsoever she encouraged me to go get a throat swab done. Turns out i actually had strep and was just carrying it around without symptoms. AFAIK i still just carry strep around, forever alone status protects the populace from me though.

edit: derp

[–]a-wild-derpette 0 points1 point ago

Thats mostly me on my period every month.

[–]Justanothercowgirl 0 points1 point ago

I'm sorry, I hope you feel/get better ASAP!

[–]SergioSF -2 points-1 points ago

Sorry if I go against the hivemind but I do not her funny.

[–]GeladodeBenuron 12 points13 points ago

I'd do her funny.
