I wonder how many people remember that this was the actual basis for this meme

[–]ArianFosterThePeople 46 points47 points ago

I remember. Never forget.

[–]eaglebacon 3 points4 points ago

It was the entire republican platform for the 2002 congressional election.

[–]Soniccyanide 106 points107 points ago

You cant milk a cow for 11 years

What did his/their posts say?

[–]A_white_kid 1 point2 points ago

I want to know so bad :(

[–]TBMChristopher 4 points5 points ago

Friends of the family were in the WTC on 9/11. Even if they weren't, I'd still downvote.

[–]TheFatGuyStrangler 33 points34 points ago

Must suck for people who lost loved ones on 9/11 to be constantly reminded every year by their friends on facebook who want to look patriotic.

[–]Renmauzuo 9 points10 points ago

Or people who use it for shameless self promotion ("RT this for the victims!") while simultaneously getting patted on the back for being such paragons of virtue.

[–]Ad_Vance -1 points0 points ago

Or the worst of all: Companies who post pseudo-patriotic pictures on their social media platforms to try and "build their brand".

[–]DecentCriminal 6 points7 points ago

Being a bit slow today, for a while I thought this was a game of numberwang.

[–]Svc335 4 points5 points ago

Don't worry at least I got it. THANK YOU FOR PLAYING NUMBER WANG!

[–]Minotaur_in_house 0 points1 point ago

Hey hey, Quahog is in America not Britain!

It's just NUMBER here.

[–]Svc335 1 point2 points ago

NUMBER WANG!

Q: Who are the fastest readers in the world?

A: New Yorkers. Some of them go through 110 stories in 5 seconds.

Q: What was the last thing going through Mr. Jones’ head when he was working on the World Trade Center’s 90th floor?

A: The 91st floor.

Q: What was the quickest escape time from the World Trade Center?

A: Ten seconds flat.

[–]slamminbeers 5 points6 points ago

I upvoted anyway. See you down there.

[–]slamminbeers 0 points1 point ago

I laughed, but I'm certainly going to hell. I can't upvote either or else I'll seal the deal.

[–]Zoids 7 points8 points ago

In Canada:

NHL.....

LOCKOUT...

At least thats whats on my facebook. Not one mention of 9/11.

[–]neckbeard_avalanche 2 points3 points ago

Seriously!? Thats going to kill NHL we do not need another lock out!

[–]Minotaur_in_house 0 points1 point ago

I'm sure if the NFL was still at Lockout no one would remember the date either.

[–]nianubisn1 5 points6 points ago

What's with all the 9 11 posts on Reddit, I don't get it.

[–]lolrsk8s_2 23 points24 points ago

Have to show how edgy and anti-establishment we are.

[–]nianubisn1 1 point2 points ago

So... I just realized the date like 6 hours after this.

[–]Renmauzuo -1 points0 points ago

How will Facebook posters know how much cooler we are than them if we don't talk about them all day?

[–]graffiti81 4 points5 points ago

I made the mistake of commenting that we've done some horrible things in memory of the dead (like murdering 100k+ civilians in Afghanistan and Iraq) and it went over like a fart in church.

[–]aimsly 1 point2 points ago

So...nobody said anything, but you got a looooooot of disgusted looks?

[–]graffiti81 1 point2 points ago

No, it was like a really, really smelly fart in church. One that everyone wonders if you've been eating dead bodies to get that smell.

[–]meatspun 0 points1 point ago

That's why you don't fart during the moment of silent prayer.

[–]Infamous_strike -5 points-4 points ago

Where is your factual evidence that the United States of America has murdered over 100k civilians? Of course by civilians, I'm guessing you mean unarmed, non threatening civilians, and not the civilians who own guns and take pop shots at American soldiers all day every day for shits and giggles.

[–]MysticalCupcake 0 points1 point ago

Maybe this will help.

Or this

And finally this.

The figure of 100K civilians is well known. I'm surprised you don't know it, the BBC makes a pretty big deal out of it (quite rightly too) every now and then.

[–]Infamous_strike -1 points0 points ago

Are you forgetting the 2nd part of my post?

All 3 of your links have stated that the casualties were civilian. Well, the terrorist organizations that we are currently fighting, are not an organized militant country, therefore causing them to be civilians.

Case in point:

I'm a civilian, and I own a multitude of firearms and other items used in wars, and I'm not in the military.

Out of all 3 of your links, only the 3rd even mentioned the word ordinary or what would be considered unarmed civilians who pose no threat. Furthermore, the mention of ordinary only counted to 3-4k during a certain time period. Not 100k

When we, (America), are dropping massive bombs to take out hugely fortified building and tank brigades and things of that nature, how are pilots and the men arming the howitzers supposed to know that there's a few civilians that are hiding in that certain area.

I'm not defending the murder of innocent civilians, but to imply that all 100k lives were innocent civilians is stupid.

And finally, in America we don't usually give a shit about what the UK says or thinks. In case you forgot, we fought AGAINST you in a war, and had to bail you out twice, and on a daily basis we still have to deal with your people constantly bad mouthing everything we say or do, with no thanks for stopping the inevitability of your entire country being overrun by Germany.

So thanks for that.

[–]MysticalCupcake 0 points1 point ago

I was only using the BBC as an example so maybe your fuck the UK attitude is a little misplaced. And basing that attitude on past indiscretions (that war you spoke of) is a bit out dated isn't it? It was over 200 years ago and now our countries are supposedly each others greatest allies.

And our "bad-mouthing" is criticism. Without criticism nations and individuals don't learn boundaries. And without boundaries things tend to get out of hand pretty quickly.

I wasn't looking to start an argument, all I did was provide the factual evidence you asked for. If you don't want to believe it then thats your decision.

[–]Infamous_strike -3 points-2 points ago

Then you are sorely mistaken. I never once said that I didn't believe it. I'm pointing out the flaws in this mindset. And to justify the UK's actions as "criticism" is wrong. On a daily basis or just about anytime I have a fight with someone from the UK, they like to make jokes about 9/11 and fat people. How is that criticism?

I don't have the mentality of "fuck the UK", but the UK definitely has the mentality of Fuck the USA. It also doesn't matter how long ago the war was, because history defines you as a whole.

And the sum of all the history culminates into the fact that the UK are conniving, narcissistic, lowlifes. You like to give America shit for the iraqi war, well then, tell me how many wars your country had been in, and how many millions of people your country has killed for not wanting the same beliefs as you?

[–]LucidUkulele 1 point2 points ago

Complaining about people posting about 9/11 is a sure sign of someone who hasn't left the basement in months

[–]chimpyTT -2 points-1 points ago

It's always easy to see who the 15 year olds living in California are on 9/11...

[–]LucidUkulele -1 points0 points ago

Up to the top with you, here have an upvote. Kids seem to forget we that not only was it a tragedy but a lot of heroes gave their lives that day as well.

[–]chimpyTT 3 points4 points ago

Exactly. My company had 9 people on UA175, this isn't about "milking the cow" this is remembering a lot of people lost their lives for stupid reasons.

[–]MrSneakySnacky 0 points1 point ago

Porsche. It is the best.

[–]Zoids -1 points0 points ago

Look I realize it was a horrific event and a lot of people lost family members, but I don't think they want to be reminded of it every year. At least I wouldn't want to be. Perhaps its time to give it up and maybe do a remembrance thing every 10 years?

[–]veltrop 0 points1 point ago

Reddit too, and you've brought more of it here.

[–]RatJohnson 0 points1 point ago

Its so yesterday

[–]D_tox -2 points-1 points ago

I'm sorry guys I don't get it.. What could the 9 lead to that would make people cringe?

[–]darkly39r 2 points3 points ago

[–]depotman 4 points5 points ago

Well, 7 8 9. So to answer your question, it would lead to more numerical cannibalism.

[–]Belisarius23 -2 points-1 points ago

Didn't get a single post in my country. Yay

[–]rbslilpanda -2 points-1 points ago

There needs to be a safe place for us to go to be free of these sheep on days like this...

[–]MarxistHobo -5 points-4 points ago

Something something just plane wrong.

[–]HeathenAntics 0 points1 point ago

upvote for context

[–]Nebz604 0 points1 point ago

I know... my boss is on facebook posting all these firemen and never forget pictures which I of course am obligated to click like.

I don't give a fuck about 9/11 because it's not like any good comes from remembering it, the only thing that happens is we have less freedom year after year.

Is it a bad thing? I've learned a few new things about that day I didn't know before.
