[–]Sornos 209 points210 points ago

But he almost didn't. Timone and Pumba taught him to be lazy and do nothing with his life. They were not what propelled him to overthrow Scar and take back his kingdom.

They were awful parents.

[–]FuhrerVonSwagg 87 points88 points ago

Terrible parents, but great buddies. I think that's the problem with parent's now, they want to be friends with their kids. BULL CRAP, be the parent!

[–]Astrapsody 7 points8 points ago

Why not...why not both?

[–]FuhrerVonSwagg 61 points62 points ago

You can, later in life, once the kids are grown, but be a parent first. I'm very close to my parents, but when I was a kid my dad was The Dad, and his word was law, we still had good times, but if he told me to do something I damn well did it.

[–]ChuchuCannon 21 points22 points ago

But remember, this means be the PARENT, not the ASSHOLE. If you raise your kids right, keeping the asshole level to a minimum should be a synch

[–]muffinmonk 20 points21 points ago

cinch

Also, it's damned near impossible not be an asshole to your kids. Sometimes they won't listen to reason and/or are stubborn and that's when asshole parenting is in full effect.

[–]bkm190 5 points6 points ago

It's pretty tough to be a parent without also being an asshole occasionally, at least from the kids point of view.

[–]ChuchuCannon 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, kids are people too. And like any person, you have to be an asshole sometimes xP just not 24/7

[–]CowsWithGuns304 6 points7 points ago

Thank you for saying this, my father has never grasped the concept of not being an arsehole to his kids, or anyone else really.

[–]FuhrerVonSwagg 2 points3 points ago

Of course, love is the biggest part, and knowing that the parent wants to make you a better man/woman, then they are. Plus it helps if your dad has cool stories. My dads stories would blow your mind.

[–]402newguy 1 point2 points ago

I think it's cinch

[–]ChuchuCannon 2 points3 points ago

Yeah i noticed that right as i posted it, but it's a pain in the ass to edit comments from my phone :P

[–]SquishMitt3n 0 points1 point ago

My father didn't quite get this concept.

[–]nonresponsive 0 points1 point ago

Do you remember when you were a kid? Honestly if I had to raise myself as a child, I would slap myself upside the head quite a few times for just being plain dumb.

[–]blaghart 0 points1 point ago

same here. I used to hate going to my dad's because he was the rules...but now my mom is all lectures while my father treats me as an adult who is going on his own path.

[–]humfuzz 11 points12 points ago

[–]neonblackk 0 points1 point ago

kids have to respect the parent and do what they say or else a household would be chaotic and not function

[–]old_calico_cat 1 point2 points ago

You could make the argument that the only reason he lived is because Timone and Pumba had no real values beyond live with the moment. Take the lion cub? Why not. Sure. Whatever, man.

[–]ProN00b 12 points13 points ago

He would have died without them in the first place.

[–]LemonFrosted 21 points22 points ago

They were his hobo mentors. I guess that's kinda like parents.

[–]Illivah 8 points9 points ago

I will henceforth refer to timone and pumba as hobomentors.

[–]erbtastic 0 points1 point ago

And I will refer to my parents in the same.

[–]Midnightruth 7 points8 points ago

Timone and Pumba took Simba under their wing after the Coup D'état from Scar. They showed him how the animals of their kind lived down the ''social scale'' so he can in the future help and understand the animals in the jungle. So his not too disconnected from them and their needs, unlike Scar who don't give a damn about anybody in the kingdom.

They wanted to make him a King close to his people, the people champ goddammit.

If he hadn't meet Timone and Pumba and his dad hasn't die, he would have end up a selfish King that was spoiled since his birth and would have been killed easily by Scar or the animal in his kingdom would have overthrow him.

[–]Krsst14 3 points4 points ago

Musfasa had great respect for all of the animals of the kingdom. (See Circle of Life Speech where the lion's bodies become the grass and the animals eat the grass etc...) Had Simba not lost his father, I think he would have turned out much more like Mufasa and far less like Scar. Simba was not raised to be a spoiled brat. His parents did teach him things. They were just not around long enough to have the impact they needed. Note, in the end, it is Mufasa who reminds him who he is and sends Simba back to take his place as king.

[–]Hotrootsoup 2 points3 points ago

My teacher actually gave quite a good speech about how Timon and Pumbaa were bad guys in that movie for that same reason.

[–]lawofgrace 2 points3 points ago

also, it's a movie.

[–]twoclose 1 point2 points ago

Additionally, they weren't faggots.

[–]LinXitoW -1 points0 points ago

Yes, but monarchies are bad, so...

[–]MelancholicFool 1 point2 points ago

Exactly! They fed him a diet of insects. Lions don't eat bugs!

[–]WonkaKnowsBest 0 points1 point ago

He also turned out to be a little bitch too.

[–]Wolfman87 1 point2 points ago

Also they did little to help him with his crippling emotional issues. "Let's have fun all the time" is no way to raise a child.

[–]nboyle23 297 points298 points ago

You do realize you are using a warthog and a meerkat raising a lion, as a comparison for two male humans raising a baby? And also Mufasa taught Simba life lessons and responsibilities of a king. Timon and Pumbaa taught Simba how to turn his back on everyone, and live only for himself.

[–]0h00m 257 points258 points ago

Also. They're cartoons.

[–]IDoNotAgreeWithYou 154 points155 points ago

And they're not gay.

[–]0h00m 103 points104 points ago

And it's a scripted scenario.

[–]I_Photoshop_Movies 87 points88 points ago

And they're not humans.

[–]0h00m 33 points34 points ago

No no no no. None of this is adding up.

[–]gabriot 19 points20 points ago

I've found the solution, and it all comes back to a question: "How the fuck is this OP an adviceanimal?"

[–]mikev7743 6 points7 points ago

You're all forgetting something very important. "Hakuna Matata."

[–]Dolentrean 6 points7 points ago

What a wonderful phrase!

[–]hallaa1 6 points7 points ago

It means no worries.

[–]aubleck 3 points4 points ago

the original and greater yolo

[–]silentseba 4 points5 points ago

And his real father and mother did raise him for a long part of his childhood.

[–]a_talking_face 7 points8 points ago

And his uncle killed his father and then he killed his uncle. One big Hamlet story.

[–]0h00m 2 points3 points ago

Whatever. As long as whoopi goldberg is involved, I couldn't be happier.

[–]EbonPinion 1 point2 points ago

Well, Timon is.

[–]NotYourTeddy 0 points1 point ago

Simba's left wrist looks a little bit limp!

[–]nehpets96 0 points1 point ago

Are you sure about that?

[–]Reedfrost 9 points10 points ago

But OP is trying to use them as parallels to real life, so I think the comment's just trying to respond along that vein.

[–]cryingblackman 15 points16 points ago

OP is trying to justify him being a whore.

[–]curusthellama 13 points14 points ago

If anything he would've let the kingdom go to shit if it wasn't for Nala.

[–]dclowd9901 14 points15 points ago

But the meerkat was voiced by Nathan Lane. Check.

[–]XpHog 7 points8 points ago

Oh god, the jokes! They burn!

[–]Snapperhead 10 points11 points ago

You do realize that the warthog, meerkat, and lions in question are not only fictional but also animated? I myself was shocked, SHOCKED, to find that out.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]BobHope4477 -1 points0 points ago

Know your joking, but...the entire opposition to gay marriage bases its argument on a fictional book... just saying, fight fiction with fiction

[–]Snapperhead 0 points1 point ago

You are absolutely correct. I did not understand the concept until you pointed that out. Thank you for the insight. jabberworx you have given me a gift on my cakeday, the gift of knowledge. Good on you, cheers!

[–]I_ate_a_milkshake 0 points1 point ago

it's a joke bro, not a political commentary.

take it down a notch.

[–]achesst -1 points0 points ago

Rand would be so proud.

[–]cynosureskater 23 points24 points ago

IT'S A GODDAMN CARTOON!

[–]stferago 3 points4 points ago

Based on a Shakespeare play. Just sayin'.

[–]rewere3 1 point2 points ago

Which play? My Shakespeare knowledge is limited at best.

[–]sharpey95 1 point2 points ago

hamlet

[–]a_beautiful_thinker 10 points11 points ago

Males*

[–]oRyan_the_Hunter 5 points6 points ago

Shoulda known... He is voiced by Nathan Lane after all.

[–]bitter_twin_farmer 4 points5 points ago

That dude is one gaybe raising machine!!!

[–]ztirk 1 point2 points ago

Pepper!

[–]ThunderPoonSlayer 5 points6 points ago

Weren't we JUST talking about how he ran over 2 people in Ireland?! EDIT: I'm referring to his voice actor :P

[–]perplexo 6 points7 points ago

Ummm, didn't he kill his uncle ?

[–]jfryk 3 points4 points ago

Not to mention, his uncle was gay.

[–]Alexbo8138 26 points27 points ago

1) Saw this on Facebook last week. Reporting from FB? Seriously?

2) The comparison is terrible. They aren't living humans. They're cartoon characters. Of course they did a good job, the script says so.

3) Simba was selfish, a dirty hippy (as opposed to the nice clean ones), careless, and a FUCKING LION. (Cue my old friend BITCH_IM_A_LION)

4) We don't care to discuss politics here. Or lifestyle choices.

5) Image macro. Cue rage that is pointless. The other rages are not pointless though.

[–]Le-Captain-Obvious -2 points-1 points ago

I followed until you said "lifestyle choices". Fuck that. Remove that part if you want your comment to seem unbiased. If not, no problems here, just less upvotes.

[–]found314 2 points3 points ago

Even if you think they were born homosexuals... none of us are born parents.

That's a big lifestyle choice.

[–]Le-Captain-Obvious 1 point2 points ago

Good point. I give you an upvote and I leave my comment. (:

[–]Alexbo8138 1 point2 points ago

Not saying its a choice. I'm leaving it open for things other than homosexuality.

[–]Le-Captain-Obvious 0 points1 point ago

Okay, I've already realized that I was on edge when I posted that and I otherwise wouldn't have minded at all. So, I give you my upvote and leave my original comment. (:

[–]93Luke 13 points14 points ago

DAE SUPPORT GAY RIGHTS

[–]ANGRY_TORTOISE 2 points3 points ago

THIS

[–]93Luke 3 points4 points ago

I actually thought I was on r/atheism at first.

[–]NobleDovahkiin 20 points21 points ago

I'm not against gay marriage, but please don't use my childhood to justify any controversial topics. It's a cartoon.

[–]tjm80 4 points5 points ago

And Ariel was raised by a single father. Family court reform!!!!

[–]mnemonie 2 points3 points ago

Disney movies actually have a dearth of mothers. Think about it; Belle was motherless, Cinderella and Snow White had stepmothers, Aladdin was an orphan and Jasmine didn't have a mother. And they hardly ever even acknowledge that their mothers are missing. It's weird.

[–]tjm80 1 point2 points ago

Never really thought about the others. With the exception of Lion King and (sort of) Bambi, I can't think of any other Disney movies that represent a "two parent" household off the top of my head.

[–]chemchik900 3 points4 points ago

Yes, they raised him to run from his problems and say 'fuck it, shit happens'. Parenting: they did it wrong.

[–]monkeyoutrage 0 points1 point ago

Yes! I vote to now blame the 90's Disney movie Lion King for the current shitty parenting style of not disciplining asshole children. It all makes sooooo much sense now.

[–]awittygamertag 2 points3 points ago

Dude, the other day I caught a pidgeon trapped in a mall to let it outside and stuff, it turns out those things are the softest things in the world. I want a pidgeon now.

[–]MauiWowieOwie 4 points5 points ago

Pumba, ironically, was the bottom.

[–]FinancialAdvisorKid 11 points12 points ago

You misspelled /r/politics

[–]braunshaver -4 points-3 points ago

I don't know, seeing as there are animals that gave advice, and the post is about said advice, I think this belongs in /r/adviceanimals

[–]dclarsen 7 points8 points ago

How is a cartoon about animals relevant to that debate at all?

[–]thealoof 6 points7 points ago

[–]equalizing 1 point2 points ago

wat

[–]BobHope4477 1 point2 points ago

I wish you a thousand upvotes for your hilarious, relevant, and irrelevant comment!

[–]peeshaw 2 points3 points ago

ITT: Lion hanging out with warthog and prairie dog on a diet of bugs is "fine."

[–]NoOnesFan 2 points3 points ago

I'm not a fan of the interspecies upbringing.

[–]Rahmulous 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, well let us not forget that he attacked a young woman and caused the death of his Uncle without due process of jungle law!

[–]bobisgoofy 2 points3 points ago

You kill the king you become the king. That's rule #1 of Jungle Law.

[–]Elwood-j 0 points1 point ago

And one was Nathan Lane.

[–]lannielan 0 points1 point ago

So many close people in my life have gay dads. I think I am desensitized to the fact that some people think that this is not "normal." Oh well, it's totally normal to me and both of my friends turned out just fine.

[–]Iron_Philosophy 2 points3 points ago

Oh, its this shit, again...

[–]nothingusefultosay 1 point2 points ago

This is a good comparison if you are against gays adopting children. I will post here what I wrote on facebook when I saw this picture

They only raised him correctly in that he didn't end up dead or as a blood-thirsty rapist, but he was definitely a disgruntled lowlife to which their response was 'hakuna matata', a phrase that is shown as abhorrent as the movie progresses. His change to a person (lion) of any meaning or substance comes after he sees Nala again, and has the encounter with the baboon and his father's ghost, at this point he grows up and becomes a man (lion). Timon and Pumbaa effectively held him down, keeping him in the childish hakuna matata mindset long after he should have grown up, which I would say is bad parenting.

Also, Mufasa was pissed at him for acting like such a schmuck.

[–]bobisgoofy 1 point2 points ago

Mufasa hates it when people act the schmuck.

[–]queef_nugs 2 points3 points ago

two STRAIGHT guys.

i'm just kidding, please don't downvote me too harshly </3

[–]swic_medic 2 points3 points ago

Meanwhile Matthew Broderick (voice of adult simba) is getting heat on /TIL for killing some one in an incident in Ireland,

[–]Articom 2 points3 points ago

Actually, they saved him from starving to death and took care of him until he could handle himself. Pretty pro-adoption story.

[–]ManofToast 2 points3 points ago

Because they were totally gay and not just friends. I'm all for gay rights, but this is just getting stupid.

[–]JPEEZY95 1 point2 points ago

DONT USE MY CHILDHOOD FOR YOUR FUCKING HOMOSEXUALITY REASONING. GAY PEOPLE ARE WRONG STOP TRYNG TO MAKE IT "OKAY". NOW EXCUSE ME WHILE I GO FUCK A NICE MOIST VAGINA WHERE MY DICK DOESN'T SMELL LIKE SHOT AFTERWARD.

EDIT: "SHIT" FUCKERS...

[–]RajanKian 1 point2 points ago

Um. No. He turned out to be a lazy douche. It took a swift smack in the head, AND a female voice of reason (Nala) to get him in gear.

[–]The_Turkish_Delite 4 points5 points ago

ACTUAL ADVICE ANIMALS

[–]Caprox 9 points10 points ago

My Question is, why is it okay for a child to be raised by a single parent but not okay for a child to be raised by two parents of the same gender?

[–]ranchcroutons 13 points14 points ago

Many argue that children should not be raised by one parent. They argue that single mothers are detrimental to a child's success.

[–]ToffeeC -2 points-1 points ago

Yea they kind of are...

[–]ranchcroutons 2 points3 points ago

In what way?

[–]dingleface 3 points4 points ago

Plenty of studies have shown that children in single parent households are more likely to grow up with a number of issues.

[–]tubadude86 7 points8 points ago

Statistically, single parents often (but certainly not always) fall into lower socioeconomic status (especially if more than one child is involved, or if it is a single mother). Socioeconomic status has a huge effect on how a child does in school, some studies suggest it affects kids even more than quality of education. That said, gay parents won't make a kid gay any more than straight parents make a kid straight.

[–]MsMorningstar 1 point2 points ago

Sociologically, it is more likely for those that already fall into the category of low SES to become single mothers. While caring for a child with only one income is certainly a strain, low SES causes single motherhood more than single motherhood causes low SES.

[–]tubadude86 0 points1 point ago

I'm not arguing that, simply that statistically, having a single parent, especially a single mother puts a child at a disadvantage. By saying that the fall into lower SES I meant it as a category of sorts, just saying that single mothers generally come from lower SES. I think we agree on that.

[–]alwaysnude 1 point2 points ago

Why can't we hold people accountable (male and female) for their offspring?

A child is best raised by its natural mother and natural father. Both should be expected to properly raise what they have brought into this world.

If either natural parent fails to fulfill their role, they should be held accountable by us as a society.

[–]Hrbiie 3 points4 points ago

Fuck.

Regardless of the content or meaning of the picture, it pisses me the hell off. Simply because lately I've been seeing pictures like this here and on other subreddits that I saw weeks before on fucking Facebook.

Seriously?

[–]Sproutykins 3 points4 points ago

Seriously? Were you hurt?

[–]BinAlaDouT 0 points1 point ago

Everyone knows most of the content on reddit originated on facebook

[–]wojx 1 point2 points ago

Bullshit.

[–]heyguysitslogan 2 points3 points ago

Explain how this is a meme. I dungettit.

[–]Alexbo8138 6 points7 points ago

Picture. Words. Haha!

Seriously tho, it isn't. It's just an image macro with some idiotic words slapped on.

[–]tubadude86 1 point2 points ago

This is the kind of thing I see from 12year olds who post about this debate on FB not because they actually have an informed opinion, but because they want to look cool and controversial.

[–]sweetjudith 0 points1 point ago

well, he DID kill his uncle ... and tons of hyenas.

[–]iwasbornwiththeballs 1 point2 points ago

HOW LONG HAVE WE BEEN SHOWING THIS PROPAGANDA TO OUR CHILDREN?

[–]Quouar 1 point2 points ago

Pfft, I wouldn't say he's fine. He did hold a coup, after all.

[–]the_holy_downvote 1 point2 points ago

[–]thefishingbuilder 0 points1 point ago

Damn fine. ;)

lol, I'm sorry, but that had to be said. For humour. Some things are more pressing then science. :)

[–]MTknowsit 1 point2 points ago

Um, you prob don't want to present a cartoon as support for your arguments in reality. Unless you run Acme Incorporated, I guess.

[–]ferdoodle24 1 point2 points ago

Last time I checked, neither a meerkat, nor a warthog were considered men. The statement would have been correct if you said two males however.

[–]fordcousin 0 points1 point ago

[–]Povidius 0 points1 point ago

TIL: Cartoons taught OP everything.

[–]hayesbrochill 0 points1 point ago

this doesn't go in r/AdviceAnimals...

[–]FarrowCreek 0 points1 point ago

Okay no.... he didn't kill his Uncle. Simba kicked Scar off the face of a mountain, and watched as a pack of vicious hyenas ripped him apart and presumably ate him. So no Simba turned out fine, if you consider feeding your Uncle to a pack of hungry dogs fine..... but yeah, I totally understand the message.

[–]jacobtaylor1987 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, but only Timon was gay.

[–]UncleverUsername 1 point2 points ago

And don't forget, one of them was Nathan lane. Just saying.

[–]mexus37 0 points1 point ago

Except he has a dead father.

[–]Hotrootsoup 1 point2 points ago

"plzdontdownvoteme"

I'm afraid I can't do that.

[–]ICapoeiraI 1 point2 points ago

was that not... also a cartoon? you know cause... its not like cartoons parallel reality.

Talking ANIMALS for crying out loud.

[–]Hugglebug -1 points0 points ago

uh... he grows up to kill his uncle....

[–]laikalost 0 points1 point ago

LION PRIDE.

[–]vetlemakt -1 points0 points ago

To be fair, on that picture Simba's got a rather stereotype 90 degree tilt to his hand. Looks like a, dare I say, -dandy lion-?

[–]ThisIsDefinitelyAGun 1 point2 points ago

Jesus fucking Christ, how many times can this shit be posted and make the front page? http://i.imgur.com/cFyRo.png

[–]kumaku 0 points1 point ago

Mufasa could probly kick the shit out of Simba. That's how he kept scar in check all those years. Scar was down to throw down with Simba because he knew he had a chance.

[–][deleted] ago

[–]Le-Captain-Obvious -1 points0 points ago

You need help, fat 40-year-old virgin on Reddit insulting homosexuals because they can get what you can't even if you were gay.

[–]WonderfulUnicorn -1 points0 points ago

[–]D4TB4SS -1 points0 points ago

I dunno they did feed him bugs.

[–]SkinnyNiggaBigBalls 1 point2 points ago

Simba pretty much went off and became a stoner, neglecting his true responsibilities. Much like me, as a matter of fact...
...fuck

[–]Le-Captain-Obvious 0 points1 point ago

This could be on /r/trees, /r/LGBT, and /r/adviceanimals. Judging from all the comments, you made the wrong choice. /:

[–]Tranger 0 points1 point ago

I remember an article in a magazine (QUO iirc) about the huge amount of subliminal crap stuffed in that movie, among the most evil ones was commune with the deceased and homoparental child rising.

[–]FlamingNipplesOfFire 1 point2 points ago

Stop trying to support gay marriage with animals, it's fucking stupid.

[–]Melodic_692 0 points1 point ago

One of them was Nathan Lane as well!

[–]sprinricco 0 points1 point ago

I'm quite surprised over the amount of butthurt in the comments.

[–]Fookananer -1 points0 points ago

two males* FTFY

[–]Post_op_FTM 0 points1 point ago

wow, this wasn't posted in /r/atheism?

[–]12288 0 points1 point ago

He ate nothing but bugs and grew up to commit regicide.

[–]photojoe 0 points1 point ago

[–]sammyjonah 0 points1 point ago

It wasn't until he met Nala that he realized who he was and fulfilled his true destiny.

[–]Worlds_Best_Coffee 0 points1 point ago

This film works for suicide bombers to. Father spoke to him from heaven, acted on it. Everything turned out fine.

[–]Broseph_McJosephson 0 points1 point ago

Two fictional characters "raised" another fictional character. He turned out fictional.

[–]ThEbAsSdRoPpEr 1 point2 points ago

They aren't men, they are animals.

[–]bambi_18 0 points1 point ago

little do you guys know...simba is a lion...an animated lion...that people imagined...disney imagined...so obviously hes going to turn out fine. I personally have nothing against gay marriage...but this argument is fucking stupid

[–]DoctorJHyde 0 points1 point ago

Pretty sure this is the first time that I have seen something on Facebook before I saw it on reddit. Maybe it's time to quit the Internet for a while.

[–]sjsharksgirl408 -1 points0 points ago

DISNEY WINS.

[–]stash600 0 points1 point ago

Has his mane always looked like that? I don't remember him having a beard like that

[–]paigebennett 0 points1 point ago

Yeah except this is a make believe story nice try

[–]Thornar68 0 points1 point ago

Goddamnit, it's a fucking cartoon. And to say that Timon and Pumbaa had any real parenting skills is kinda funny, if anything they were children right along with Simba. Stop using fucking children's movies to further political motives.

[–]lvlegabyte 0 points1 point ago

Timone and Pumba only took up Simba because the wanted to use him as protection from other predictors.

They were just going to forget about him until, "You know, having a lion around might not be such a bad idea." Meaning, he didn't care if Simba was a cub that probably would have died. Having a lion (any lion) around on their side would be beneficial to Timone and Pumba. Even when Simba get's older, they make fun of Sumba's idea of what stars were while Timone and Pumba's ideas weren't made fun of. They only stay with Simba because he's good protection and has power.

[–]paragon97 0 points1 point ago

"men" *pig and desert cat

[–]LemonFrosted 5 points6 points ago

Mongoose, technically. Meerkat. It only sounds like cat.

[–]fingawkward 1 point2 points ago

I swear meerkats are the weird cousin of the mongoose family. Mongeese are badass, while meerkats...well... they had a show...

[–]paragon97 0 points1 point ago

I knew it was a meerkat but I wasn't sure how to spell it.

[–]UndeadMeme -1 points0 points ago

Same goes for Jesus

[–]FartyNapkins 0 points1 point ago

Animals aren't men

[–]ginja_ninja -1 points0 points ago

The furry is strong with this post.

[–]Emperor_Mao 1 point2 points ago

Meerkat and Warthog can't be Men. But they can be Male.

[–]xKismetx 1 point2 points ago

Two men.... Two men..... Really?

[–]MotivatedMe 0 points1 point ago

It was also a cartoon

[–]arcray 0 points1 point ago

OP is a fag. =p

[–]bitz4444 2 points3 points ago

The quality of a parent isn't determined by their respective gender.
