Beware of trading scammers!

A subreddit for anything related to games (but not sports).

"Related" means that posts must contain gaming-related content in the link/post body, not just a "forced" connection via the title or a caption added to the content.

Posting Rules

  • Posts must be directly gaming-related. Thus, "generic" image macros/memes (where the character itself is not related to gaming) like Scumbag Steve, Good Guy Greg, etc. will be removed. Something that "reminds you of a game", or "looks like something from a game" is also not an appropriate submission; similarly, reaction GIFs are also not appropriate as submissions.

  • Following Reddiquette is encouraged

  • No "general" URL shorteners (bitly, tinyurl, etc). Single-site URL shorteners (such as youtu.be or fav.me) are allowed.

  • No game or product giveaway of any kind

  • NSFW submissions and comments must be labeled

  • Spoilers can be posted using the following formatting:
    [X Kills Y](/spoiler)
    Result: X Kills Y.

  • To mark a spoiler as relevant to a specific game/topic, use the alternate formatting:
    [Player 1 wins](/spoiler "Pong")
    Result:
    Player 1 wins

  • Report posts containing spoilers not using the above method

  • Don't post users' personal information.

Submission Rules

Is your post not showing up? Do not delete it. Wait 5 minutes to give AutoModerator a chance to look at it; it approves most submissions automatically. If it hasn't shown up after more than 5 minutes, simply message the moderators and ask us to let it through.

Herny ber ber!

[–]Aneds 0 points1 point ago

Horny Bear Bear?

[–]IDriveAVan 1 point2 points ago

Can we squarejerk just this once? Even a rhombusjerk would be refreshing.

[–]JakJakAttacks 15 points16 points ago

Valve good, EA bad!

Me. Unique. Like everyone else.

[–]TheSelfGoverned 2 points3 points ago

To be fair, only hardcore gamers know what steam is and the important service it provides. Likely less than 5% of the population.

[–]Carlo_The_Magno 2 points3 points ago

To be fair, 5% of the population (of the planet) is about equal to the population of the US. Let's say that 1/4 of people in the US know about Steam (is that a reasonable number? I think so, but let me know if you figure differently). Outside of the US and maybe Western Europe, Australia/NZ, and some other larger areas I'm probably forgetting, you're not looking at much awareness of Steam/Valve. 5% might just be accurate.

[–]YeNdEz 1 point2 points ago

1/4 might be a little high.

[–]Carlo_The_Magno 0 points1 point ago

I try to be generous to whatever argument will prove me wrong when I'm wildly guestimating. And now that I think about it, getting 1 in 4 people in a gallup poll (I'd say on the street, but the statisticians would yell at me again) to say they are aware of Steam would be a little tough.

[–]CaptainBouch 0 points1 point ago

1/4 of people in the US know about Steam? What? I doubt 1/4 of my friends know what Steam is...And I'm 18

[–]Carlo_The_Magno 0 points1 point ago

Ha, yeah, I actually meant that that might be too low. But everybody has made me realize how ridiculously high that is. Even brick-and-mortar Gamestop would probably struggle to hit 1 in 4.

[–]TheSelfGoverned 1 point2 points ago

Let's say that 1/4 of people in the US know about Steam

You're overestimating with that figure.

Consider the Bros, the women, the console gamers...consider your parents generation, the elderly, and the vast segment of the population which doesn't even use computers or the internet.

[–]Babysealkllr -1 points0 points ago

I have to agree with this. I mention Steam to my friends and a lot of them have no idea what it is. But when I show them, it's like I gave them an early birthday present.

[–]mildiii 0 points1 point ago

How is this possible? How is it possible to play any video games as a non casual and not know about steam? At least in North America. CS alone

[–]Babysealkllr 0 points1 point ago

They mainly stuck with WoW and other MMO's that were more commercially released for PC/Mac. Otherwise they were mainly console gamers. It shocked me too.

[–]isolation_years 0 points1 point ago

I laughed so hard at this! My fucking sides

[–]brezzz 2 points3 points ago

http://i.imgur.com/vqVpI.gif

Guys, I thought we would be agreeing with each other over and over again via the internet, not any of this.

[–]Servious -1 points0 points ago

LOL GUISE THIS SUBREDDIT IS SUCH A CIRLCEJERK, AMIRITE?!

[–]James_Keenan -1 points0 points ago

That's what a circlejerk is? I feel eo enlightened. I always thought it was just guys standing in a circle and jerking themselves off. This new definition makes more sense.

But it sounds like a terrible idea. I guess if there's lots of lube, but even then, those guys better have well manicured nails, or else their lubed hands slip off and end up scratching the head with their nails.

No, I don't think a circle jerk is for me.

Also, Valve good! EA Bad!

[–]alwaysmorelmn -2 points-1 points ago

LOL. This is possibly one of the funniest things I've read on Reddit. I've been actually chuckling about it for a minute. I can't reread it without causing more chuckles.

[–]tonzfap 0 points1 point ago

I can't stop...

[–]KorovaDroog 14 points15 points ago

Let's check the calendar...

http://i.imgur.com/pDc9r.jpg

[–]OptimusDimebag 182 points183 points ago

So this is what r/gaming had become?

[–]LykanLunatik 152 points153 points ago

Might as well rename it r/valve

[–]CherryVanillaCoke 131 points132 points ago

LOL DAE GABEN?

[–]Whalerider725 42 points43 points ago

Whatever happened to you, Cherry Vanilla Coke?

[–]CherryVanillaCoke 49 points50 points ago

I still exist in Coca-Cola Freestyle machines. Drink enough of me and maybe Coca-Cola will make 12-pack cans again.

[–]ThatSpuds 14 points15 points ago

You are delicious when made with real vanilla and grenadine.

[–]suchajuicywatermelon 2 points3 points ago

FYI, real grenadine is made from pomegranate juice.

[–]Heroshade 16 points17 points ago

Not grenades?

[–]Reddituser2005 3 points4 points ago

Well TIL.

[–]suchajuicywatermelon 1 point2 points ago

Only in Grenada.

[–]ZedZeeZee 0 points1 point ago

MY LIFE IS A LIE

[–]ctusk423 1 point2 points ago

And cake flavored vodka.

[–]tandembandit 2 points3 points ago

But the Freestyle machines have PEACH SPRITE. This is the Sophie's choice of soft drinks.

[–]go_go_bannananas 14 points15 points ago

But you see, this circlejerk knob, goes to 11...

[–]heartscrew 1 point2 points ago

This guy gets it!

[–]Ragnnohab 0 points1 point ago

But why don't you just make 10 jerk harder?

[–]jesuspeeker 9 points10 points ago

EA ORIGIN IS BAD!

[–]bradthebard 14 points15 points ago

YES. WE ALL GABEN. ALL THE TIME. GABEN IS OUR SAVIOUR FROM CONSOLE GAMING.

[–]blaw_blaw 1 point2 points ago

Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of EA, I will fear no evil: for Lord Gaben art with me; thy half-life and thy steam they comfort me.

[–]Boomtown_Rat 0 points1 point ago

GABEN GABEN GABEN! GABEN GABEN?! GABEN, GABEN GABEN.

[–]jasonpressX 10 points11 points ago

Yeah, might as well

Most of these posts are steam messages, steam freinds, steam memes, half life 3 prophecies from the necronomicon, fat gabe jokes, beliefs that gabe is a god (he's an awesome dude, but the obsession here is borderline creepy).. seriously have you read the when gabe dies post?

Yeah I support the r/gaming to r/steam or r/valve change

[–]johndoev2 4 points5 points ago

let's not forget the whole anti Origin thing

EA changes terms of service to prevent class action lawsuits: /r/gaming goes batshit crazy about how evil EA is

Valve changes terms of service to prevent class action lawsuits: crickets

[–]keypuncher 0 points1 point ago

[–]Carlo_The_Magno 1 point2 points ago

Jumping on the EA bandwagon of hate is fun and all, but let's not forget that a lot of game companies fail on their own, too.

[–]keypuncher 0 points1 point ago

Sure, but EA doesn't buy failed companies. It buys companies with good reputations and good games, and then ruins both, discards anything that remains and moves on.

[–]Carlo_The_Magno 0 points1 point ago

Fair enough. Just remember that that may not fit into the whole data of how much they've destroyed.

[–]Irish33 0 points1 point ago

EA has specifically said they have a business strategy of buying out developers better than their own and running them into the ground.

[–]Carlo_The_Magno 0 points1 point ago

Source? I'm fairly certain that's illegal under our anti-trust laws.

[–]johndoev2 0 points1 point ago

because you know... it's impossible for a developer to make a bad game on their own, based on the sole fact that they made a good game before said bad game. And thus get shut down since said developer is not profitable

Totally EA's fault

[–]lxm 2 points3 points ago

And if its not steam or valve, its Mario, Zelda or Portal steam or valve some more.

[–]jasonpressX 2 points3 points ago

Portal is valve, but yeah

Just separate r/gaming into r/valve and r/nintendo

[–]WakeUp_SmellTheAshes 5 points6 points ago

/r/steam is pretty much just asking what games to buy/why a game won't boot. Usually not a lot of circle jerkin goin round those parts.

[–]Krutonman 7 points8 points ago

We can fix that!

[–]Volsunga 6 points7 points ago

btw, /r/valve has almost no content. It could use the absorption of some of this cancer.

[–]LykanLunatik 3 points4 points ago

Yeah, but this subreddit has over 2 mill subs now. No way we could get a mass exodus of this crap over there.

They want karma after all

[–]Carlo_The_Magno 0 points1 point ago

Sure you could, it'd just put the burden on the mods rather than the people who keep making and upvoting this stuff.

[–]mylogicisducks 4 points5 points ago

Not until after the honeymoon.

[–]TheFlyingMilkshake 1 point2 points ago

r/gaben

[–]justadude23 1 point2 points ago

When Sony changes their EULA to forbid class action lawsuits, that's a crime against gaming.

When Valve does the same thing, they're defending themselves against frivolous lawsuits.

The fanboyism around here is impressive.

[–]Wuggy 7 points8 points ago

It's what /r/gaming has been a long time. /r/games for gaming content with actual substance is that-a-way.

[–]tyrghast 5 points6 points ago

R/games is r/gaming, but with more arrogance

[–]Wuggy 0 points1 point ago

The fact that I'm spared from all the "I used to play this game as a kid and now I'm posting a screenshot of it because Nostalgia converts to karma" posts alone makes it good enough for me.

[–]ralphlizard 1 point2 points ago

No, not really.

[–]Boomtown_Rat 0 points1 point ago

He means it's arrogant because they won't put up with this valve bullshit like /r/gaming does.

[–]HittingSmoke 3 points4 points ago

It's adorable that people are upvoting this as if you're making some sort of insightful, original observation about a changing subreddit.

[–]Heroshade 2 points3 points ago

To be fair, even if you're against the circlejerk fucktrain that is this subreddit's obsession with Gaben, turning down a billion dollars for the sake of not being a sellout is pretty admirable.

[–]HittingSmoke -1 points0 points ago

I never said I was against it. I said it's adorable that this guy is acting like it's something new that he's doing a service by pointing out.

[–]Heroshade 1 point2 points ago

Oh, I know, I wasn't talking about you specifically.

[–]Ben4201163 0 points1 point ago

I heard there was this brand new feature in reddit called the "downvote." I believe it's used to prevent shitty links from being on the front page... you should try it out

[–]OptimusDimebag 0 points1 point ago

There's also a comments section to voice your opinion, what's your point?

[–]Full_Of_Win 1 point2 points ago

has

FTFY. It was annoying me.

[–]OptimusDimebag 4 points5 points ago

I was narrating in my head.

[–]kingdavecako 0 points1 point ago

ITT: FUUUUCK THE REDDIT.COM CONTENT QUALITY BUBBLE BURST!

WHEN I FIRST JOINED REDDIT, IT WAS QUALITY CONTENT. NOW IT'S ALL MEMES AND GABEN CIRCLEJERKS.

I like this.

[–]mongobongodog 0 points1 point ago

OMG ur so EDGY! XD

[–]Toke_On_420 3 points4 points ago

Oh yeah, I haven't heard that one before...

[–]ThisIsDefinitelyAGun 0 points1 point ago

Me neither.

[–]_Navi_ 44 points45 points ago

Yeah, Valve doesn't make any money. They do things like Big Picture out of the goodness of their hearts. They just love you all so much. That must be it.

[–]Landeyda 32 points33 points ago

Valve is proof a company can still be profit-driven and not be horrible entities that try to rip off their customers.

[–]Carlo_The_Magno 7 points8 points ago

Which, in the long term, is what's going to be more profitable for Valve. EA is only still around because of micro-transactions and exclusive franchises, at least it seems that way. Those can't last forever.

[–]rowaway27 10 points11 points ago

Valve is a shining example of enlightened self interest in the corporate marketplace. And, since Newell more or less owns the company, he actually can do things against the financial self-interest of the company, out of the goodness of his heart. Though so far, most of Valve's business decisions have been good for them, and for us. They're good at creating value.

[–]timewarp 1 point2 points ago

No it isn't, because Valve isn't a corporation.

[–]rowaway27 -1 points0 points ago

No, but they do compete and do business with corporations. Hence 'the corporate marketplace.'

[–]cuddlyogre 3 points4 points ago

If they're going to be billionaires, I'm glad they're billionaires that are at least improving the industry long term so they can continue being billionaires for the foreseeable future, instead of doing all they can to milk it to death for everything it is worth now.

[–]concordefallacy 9 points10 points ago

I agree that it's definitely about money, but Newell and the rest of Valve are definitely aware that they can provide better products and services than EA (under it's current management) ever will.

Hence the professional publicized version of "Fuck off, cunt."

[–]justadude23 0 points1 point ago

I wondered why Valve's EULA now forbids class action lawsuits, and why our sole recourse in the event that we don't like their EULA changes is that we can agree to close our account and lose access to the games we bought.

Turns out that's called "better products and services than EA" and is actually a good thing.

I can't see how I missed that.

[–]concordefallacy 0 points1 point ago

Then you can opt out and not have any part of Steam. It's a service that provides access to products. If you disagree with the service, then go elsewhere.

GoG is getting larger, and I'd gladly support competition against Steam and it's monopoly on the downloadable market. But no, you'd rather support EA and it's disgustingly venemous effects on how the process of game development is impeded upon in the past five years because you disagree with the usage agreement.

(See, I can be a smartass too.)

[–]justadude23 0 points1 point ago

Thank you.

I wondered why some things are good when Valve does it and bad when EA does it, and it turns out the answer is "I can choose not to buy any of Valve's games".

Thanks.

But no, you'd rather support EA and it's disgustingly venemous effects on how the process of game development is impeded upon in the past five years because you disagree with the usage agreement.

Really?

You got that out of my post?

Damn, your reading skills are unbelievable.

[–]concordefallacy 0 points1 point ago

[–]theoretical-narrator 10 points11 points ago

I think it's strange that there's such a disparity between upvotes and comments.

Right now, there are 789 upvotes for this image macro, but nearly all the commenters in this thread are fuming about how shitty this gaben circlejerk has become.

[–]BrokenScience 7 points8 points ago

Reddit in a nutshell.

[–]MangoScango 0 points1 point ago

Reddit circlejerking over how much of a circlejerk it is? No way.

[–]misterpocket 69 points70 points ago

Get the fuck out of /r/gaming with your shitty image macros. It's already bad enough.

[–]i_706_i 28 points29 points ago

Don't forget to mention the terrible title "Never thought I would find this quote fitting so well into real life." Not only is the text a concept that you find often in real life, but it is constantly used on reddit.

[–]AmoDman 0 points1 point ago

Isn't that the point of /r/games?

[–]Ben4201163 0 points1 point ago

If only there was a button that could prevent these kinds of things... Some kind of downward arrow...blue maybe...

[–]LykanLunatik 22 points23 points ago

""Generic" image macros/memes (where the character itself is not related to gaming) like Scumbag Steve, Good Guy Greg, etc. will be removed. Something that "reminds you of a game", or "looks like something from a game" is also not an appropriate submission."

But watch this stay on the front page anyway.

[–]RD_Is_Best_Pony 0 points1 point ago

Implying mods ever do their job properly

[–]LykanLunatik -1 points0 points ago

That's the joke.

[–]BBMcPherson 0 points1 point ago

(where the character itself is not related to gaming)

By no means am I saying this is great content or deserves an upvote, but what are you claiming exactly? That the owner of Valve isn't related to gaming? Or are you mistaking "the character" (in the case of this rule meaning the subject of the meme, which could be a gaming "character" yes, but it can also mean an owner or developer) to mean that it must include a gaming character, and not a real gaming employee? Or are you under the impression that the meme features just a random guy with random text, and isn't related to EA offering to buy out Valve or whatever?

TL;DR The rule you posted doesn't make much sense in this case, as the image pictured shows a decently well known gaming related personality.

Prediction: This comment is over 2 sentences long, and as it asks for clarification as to why the rule doesn't apply here I will be called a "fanboy" and downvoted simply because I am stating the simple fact that the guy pictured does, in fact, work in gaming, nothing more.

[–]LOL_DAE_GABEN 19 points20 points ago

LOLOLOL DAE GABEN

[–]Duudeski 8 points9 points ago

I do.

[–]Neleig 52 points53 points ago

[–]mon_carlamari 6 points7 points ago

This is like the equivalent of the TF2 pyro achievement BarbeQeuQ, when you cause someone you are dominating to leave the server. In a terrible, weird way, congrats.

[–]Nasicom 3 points4 points ago

Holy shit. I forgot I could do this. I'm out.

[–]mystic_vegito 25 points26 points ago

SO BRAVE

[–]tyrghast 31 points32 points ago

BRAVERY LEVEL: LITTLE TOASTER

[–]Heroshade 0 points1 point ago

Very few A level: B comments have made me laugh. You are one of the chosen.

[–]tyrghast 1 point2 points ago

I have exceeded my previous upvotes per minute ratio, one I established my first year with another stock comment about Cheney being evil.

[–]Namika 0 points1 point ago

That was a really good movie.

[–]HexAddict 2 points3 points ago

Yep. You know I kept subscribing because well I kinda like some of the bullshit /r/gaming drama that happens. But this circlejerk getting into my front page is more than I can handle. Seriously fuck the amateurs in /r/circlejerk this subreddit knows how to do it.

[–]reallynotnick 1 point2 points ago

/r/games if you want a place without all the memes and such.

[–]mobiuszeroone 16 points17 points ago

He already has tens of billions of dollars.

[–]The_Real_Gilgongo 3 points4 points ago

Valve/Steam is currently estimated to be worth about 2.5 billion. Gabe has a personal fortune of about 1 billion... and much of that is tied up in Valve.

[–]UpDown 0 points1 point ago

no he doesnt

[–]Jaegs 0 points1 point ago

Steam hasn't exactly been a colossal failure...

[–]sereko 5 points6 points ago

That doesn't mean it's successful enough to make Gaben a multibillionaire.

[–]spacebrony 4 points5 points ago

[–]Carlo_The_Magno 0 points1 point ago

Quick, duck, this guy has legitimate data!

[–]Radzell 0 points1 point ago

50% of 2.5 billion is 1.25 billion plus 750 million from microsoft so he might be a multibillionaire.

[–]EskimoJesus7904 1 point2 points ago

You may want to check your math before posting, chief.

[–]Jaegs -2 points-1 points ago

cept that it kinda does

[–]spacebrony 2 points3 points ago

yeah, there's only room for one colossal thing at valve

[–]ludod 1 point2 points ago

thats a fat joke for anyone who missed it

[–]spacebrony 0 points1 point ago

i hate them so much but sometimes you just can't help it. I feel like we've come full circle to the point where making fat jokes is ITSELF a joke, which kind of layers it and makes it less offensive (at least, that's my excuse)

in all honestly, the man's been looking much thinner in his recent appearances. I'm really proud of him for that.

[–]Jim777PS3 1 point2 points ago

1.5 billion, valve is worth 2.5

[–]Heroshade 0 points1 point ago

[–]destructaball 2 points3 points ago

That's it I'm unsubscribing this is the last fucking straw

[–]ajinthebutt 1 point2 points ago

Is r/gaming even trying now? just upvoting this fat fuck no matter what?

[–]LukaCola 5 points6 points ago

Because this wasn't done in the comments section 15 fucking times already

[–]warheat1990 2 points3 points ago

Gaben pic : Check
CIRCLE UP!

[–]EndSage 5 points6 points ago

I think the correct context behind this is valves change to greenlight.

"The first update is a $100 fee for someone to post to Steam Greenlight. The proceeds will be donated to Child’s Play. We have no interest in making money from this, but we do need to cut down the noise in the system."

So quit bitching about circlejerking.

[–]ZapActions-dower 3 points4 points ago

Wow, this place sure is laying it on thick today. I know this place is just a big Valve circlejerk, but damn.

[–]pandaSmore 0 points1 point ago

[–]Esoduh 2 points3 points ago

Go away.

[–]LazyNecromancer 1 point2 points ago

The butthurt in this thread is astounding

[–]-Rusty-Shackleford- -1 points0 points ago

Didn't you hear? People post gaming-related memes in this subreddit now. That means the entire sub is officially falling headfirst into the whirpool of suck!

The nerve of some people... This time they're even commending a man for sticking to his morals and turning down a $1 billion deal. Fuckers.

[–]igor6661 1 point2 points ago

Alright, that's it. Next Gabe thing that gets upvoted to the front of gaming will result in my unsubscribing from this subreddit.

[–]Kinglink 5 points6 points ago

Seriously, just leave. You know another one is coming. This subreddit continues to turn to crap. Making empty threats doesn't help anyone.`

[–]jsmith212600 0 points1 point ago

Considering Valve's position in the marketplace, it makes business sense NOT to sell to EA and give them a monopoly on streaming gaming. It also makes business sense for Gabe to spin it as principle.

[–]setcountzero 1 point2 points ago

Gabe, sometimes I wish I could quit you.

[–]nothingpersnal 1 point2 points ago

How in Odin's beard is this on the front page of /r/gaming?

[–]NegativeNigger 0 points1 point ago

and cake.

[–]John_Doey -1 points0 points ago

Today the top post made my day.

[–]Midgetfinger 1 point2 points ago

God dammit. Can't go one day without seeing a front page post that's gabe/valve themed.

[–]PeaceSentinel 1 point2 points ago

...but Call of Duty is the game that every twelve year-old talks about?

[–]KojaKhan 0 points1 point ago

You win reddit for the day. Congrats

[–]PeaceSentinel 1 point2 points ago

-Gabe is so nice to the fans even though I don't know jack shit about what goes on at Valve and that he is one person in an entire company.

-Look at this box-art of game I am declaring a Gem!

-I found a Gameboy at a garage sale...

-Game related art I ripped off without giving any credit.

-Steam Screenshots!

-Half-Life 3 Comics/Horrible Jokes/Rumors

[–]TheJangoLegacy 1 point2 points ago

This is so true, VALVe delivered a huge message when they released Half-Life 1 and Half-Life 2, and there is such an enormous fanbase all around the world waiting for the impacting Half-Life 3, to be released. They know of all of this, yet they make us wait. I think Half-Life 3 will win 200 game of the year awards.

[–]OnePastafarian 1 point2 points ago

Quotation*

[–]Armageist 1 point2 points ago

Then clearly you live a sheltered life where ever bad guy is just bad and every good guy is just good. Life isn't black and white. You'll find that out eventually when you fail for reasons beyond your control and unjustifiably so.

[–]ejallison 0 points1 point ago

Regardless of whether Valve would sell out or not, they're worth way more than the $1,000,000,000 EA offered them.

[–]Kinglink 0 points1 point ago

"Related" means that posts must contain gaming-related content in the link/post body, not just a "forced" connection via the title or a caption added to the content.

Oh yeah the mods don't enforce the rules when it's borderline.

[–]mcbridea 1 point2 points ago

To be fair, the two do share certain interests...

[–]iwasbornwiththeballs 0 points1 point ago

He has said many times that he founded Valve because he wanted to go to work every day and be around brilliant people doing amazing things. He founded Valve with the millions he made off of Microsoft's IPO. He has not needed money for decades.

Gabe is not going to sell Valve unless Valve starts to suck.

[–]MrPeachy 0 points1 point ago

Maybe 1 billion just wasn't enough?

[–]zippeh 0 points1 point ago

Gaben is the businessman America deserves

[–]Mexagon 0 points1 point ago

I bet if we all met up at Valve HQ and masturbated furiously enough, the pumping motions of our cumstained hands would be like hundreds of thousands of small little pistons, and we would lift the valve building into the air on nothing but dolphin-beating alone. We would then in a sense be holding the entire world hostage, as the amount of semen that would be released upon earth could blanket at least 5 of the 7 continents in a sticky snow of man protein. Think of the widespread panic--power outages, flash floods, and lightning storms as we jack into the clouds. Wild animals would come down from the forests and start tearing shit up. And as we jacked into controlled groups to remain in the air, Lord Gaben would levitate above us all, declaring "if half-life 3 is what you so desire, then there must be a sacrifice. Only blood pays for blood," as we realize that we have jacked ourselves right over the White House.

"Do what must be done."

Are you willing to give up everything for Gaben, r/gaming? Are you truly ready?

Well I do think the image is kinda fitting. I mean im not a huge gaben fan or anything but I do like the idea of not selling your company to a huge corporate conglomerate because you don't like the ramifications of it.

[–]Jim777PS3 1 point2 points ago

Yea because Gabe is worried about money.

You understand he runs Valve out of pocket right? He made his fortune with Microsoft well before opening Valve.

The man is worth $1,500,000,000

Valve is worth an estimated $2,500,000,000

Do not get me wrong its cool and all for him to turn down the deal from EA but it is not some white knight move, Valve has an insane throat hold on the PC market and is not going anywhere anytime soon, hell they could start burning money right now and be fine for a long time.

[–]Kinglink 0 points1 point ago

First off that's wrong.

He's worth 1.5 billion but that's including his ownership of Valve. Valve is worth 2.5 billion, he owns around 60 percent of it. Thus he's worth 1.5 billion.

Let that sink in, he has 60 percent of his company's stock, thus he's worth more than half his company.

[–]Jim777PS3 0 points1 point ago

Ah sorry, thanks for the correction

[–]Kinglink 0 points1 point ago

No problem, I was confused at first but it's not a liquid 1 billion, I'm sure he's more than well off personally, but he's not ridiculously "rich" he just owns something that's completely overvalued.

Never thought I'd see another Gabe Newell thing upvoted to r/gaming.

[–]Mr_White_212 -5 points-4 points ago

So instead of buying a new xbox360 I should say fuck it and get my valve, steam on?

[–]HeisenbergWhitman -2 points-1 points ago

While it is not being about the money, Valve is coincidentally making a lot of money.

[–]TheExtremeOverload 0 points1 point ago

Light source coming from the right side. Right side of face cloaked in shadow. I feel this was Photoshopped...

[–]ta1ntdude -2 points-1 points ago

Why does everyone have to be such a little bitch about r/gaming these days. This subreddit is for goofing off and we all know that. You want game journalism, go to a news site. You want gaming discussion? Then realize that memes and joke images bring up topics that can be discussed in the comment section. There are plenty of people discussing their take on what this picture's message are and then there's all you people bitching. So who is really using this subreddit properly?

[–]RobotBuddha 0 points1 point ago

it's a bit childish of me, but I upvote things like this specifically to watch people who take things too seriously get all angsty.
