To be fair, 5% of the population (of the planet) is about equal to the population of the US. Let's say that 1/4 of people in the US know about Steam (is that a reasonable number? I think so, but let me know if you figure differently). Outside of the US and maybe Western Europe, Australia/NZ, and some other larger areas I'm probably forgetting, you're not looking at much awareness of Steam/Valve. 5% might just be accurate.

      Valve is a shining example of enlightened self interest in the corporate marketplace. And, since Newell more or less owns the company, he actually can do things against the financial self-interest of the company, out of the goodness of his heart.       GoG is getting larger, and I'd gladly support competition against Steam and it's monopoly on the downloadable market.         By no means am I saying this is great content or deserves an upvote, but what are you claiming exactly? That the owner of Valve isn't related to gaming? Or are you mistaking "the character" (in the case of this rule meaning the subject of the meme, which could be a gaming "character" yes, but it can also mean an owner or developer) to mean that it must include a gaming character, and not a real gaming employee? Or are you under the impression that the meme features just a random guy with random text, and isn't related to EA offering to buy out Valve or whatever?

        TL;DR The rule you posted doesn't make much sense in this case, as the image pictured shows a decently well known gaming related personality.

        This is so true, VALVe delivered a huge message when they released Half-Life 1 and Half-Life 2, and there is such an enormous fanbase all around the world waiting for the impacting Half-Life 3, to be released. They know of all of this, yet they make us wait. I think Half-Life 3 will win 200 game of the year awards.

        He has said many times that he founded Valve because he wanted to go to work every day and be around brilliant people doing amazing things. He founded Valve with the millions he made off of Microsoft's IPO. He has not needed money for decades.

        Gabe is not going to sell Valve unless Valve starts to suck.

        I bet if we all met up at Valve HQ and masturbated furiously enough, the pumping motions of our cumstained hands would be like hundreds of thousands of small little pistons, and we would lift the valve building into the air on nothing but dolphin-beating alone. We would then in a sense be holding the entire world hostage, as the amount of semen that would be released upon earth could blanket at least 5 of the 7 continents in a sticky snow of man protein. Think of the widespread panic--power outages, flash floods, and lightning storms as we jack into the clouds. Wild animals would come down from the forests and start tearing shit up. And as we jacked into controlled groups to remain in the air, Lord Gaben would levitate above us all, declaring "if half-life 3 is what you so desire, then there must be a sacrifice. Only blood pays for blood," as we realize that we have jacked ourselves right over the White House.

        Do not get me wrong its cool and all for him to turn down the deal from EA but it is not some white knight move, Valve has an insane throat hold on the PC market and is not going anywhere anytime soon, hell they could start burning money right now and be fine for a long time.

        First off that's wrong.

        He's worth 1.5 billion but that's including his ownership of Valve. Valve is worth 2.5 billion, he owns around 60 percent of it. Thus he's worth 1.5 billion.

        Let that sink in, he has 60 percent of his company's stock, thus he's worth more than half his company.
