Honestly, I hate Walter so much more. I know it's kinda expected that we should sympathize with him, but it's his ego getting the better of him that's defining all the issues they have to deal with. If he was a big enough man to suck it up and deal with it then it wouldn't have been so bad in the last season.

He is the bad guy in the show. In the first season he is just trying to provide for his family, and really doesn't want to kill someone, someone who had threatened to kill him. At that point he is still a decent man, but by season 4/5 he is willing to harm or kill children and anyone who gets in his way. Its not about providing for his family, its about satisfying his own ego. Its all about his progression into evil.

In the previous seasons, she has slowed down the story. I personally find her character to be incredibly sympathetic (unlike Walter), but I understand that a lot of people find her annoying and she gets in the way of progression.

I have always seen her as an important role, so I guess I can't agree that she gets in the way of progression. Skylar and the kids used to be the reason why Walter cooked at all. She has also played an integral role in many schemes, covering his ass more than once. Seems to me the story wouldn't be complete if it ignored her side of it.

Be all "Oh hey, I know I'm pregnant/just had a baby and the mother of a handicap teenager, and I know you're dying of cancer and I have to deal with being a single parent before I'm even a single parent, but if you want to cook meth I'm cool with it"

I honestly don't care either way. I don't hate her, but I don't like her like I like Jesse or Walt (I actually typed Hal at first) or even Mike.
