"Generic" image macros/memes (where the character itself is not related to gaming) like Scumbag Steve, Good Guy Greg, etc. will be removed. Something that "reminds you of a game", or "looks like something from a game" is also not an appropriate submission.

http://mwomercs.com/ Shaping up to be VERY good so far.

[–]skullcrusherbw 8 points9 points ago

Are you in the beta too.

[–]NCRZombie 16 points17 points ago

If I was I wouldn't be allowed to say because I'd be breaching the NDA.

[–]Timepotato 7 points8 points ago

I also cannot say whether I am in the beta or not.

[–]howtojump 4 points5 points ago

I, too, may or may not be in the beta.

[–]shobgood 5 points6 points ago

When I did or did not get my beta accepted email that was the first thing I noticed.

[–]fizzlefist 3 points4 points ago

Indeed, such a hypothetical closed-beta NDA would be most annoying for discussing one's involvement in playing said beta with like-minded redditors outside of the beta-only forums...

[–]Revick 5 points6 points ago

If I was in it, I'd probably say it's hard as shit and I can't understand how I would be going shot for shot with someone in the same mech and still lose...that is if I played it....and if it was like every other MechWarrior where the same thing happened.

I've never been good at MechWarrior...

[–]fizzlefist 1 point2 points ago

Well, judging by my experience in earlier MechWarrior games, I might suggest trying a different loadout, mech, or tactics. For me, I always liked letting my wingmates move ahead to soak up damage while I pummeled away from a distance with heavy artillery.

[–]sl33tbl1nd 0 points1 point ago

I can neither confirm, nor deny, that Catapult-K2's make this really easy as I may or may not be in the beta.

[–]shadmere 3 points4 points ago

I'm totally in the beta. I love that you get an actual car-sized capsule full of controls, levers, and pedals. Seriously it's the best VR I've ever imagined.

[–]mkell43 4 points5 points ago

Don't joke this used to exist and if it came back I would literally lose control over all of my bodily functions all at once. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BattleTech_Centers

[–]shadmere 3 points4 points ago

Oh god, I remember reading about those in a computer magazine I had. The magazine claimed that this was the "future of gaming." I used to lie in bed at night and just imagine playing a game like that. (I would be really amazing at it, obviously, because I thought about robots so much.)

[–]slc11082 1 point2 points ago

Oh man I had a birthday there. Good times.

remember they always wanted you to touch the gate so you wouldn't have static on you?

I didn't, I was a rebel.

[–]Anus_master 1 point2 points ago

If you've spent money on it they said you could say so, because it's obvious.

[–]Perk_i 4 points5 points ago

MWLL is still a lot more engaging to play... but it lacks a mechlab...

[–]ModernRonin 2 points3 points ago

Took the threat of Hawken actually being released to get them off their lazy asses and release another MW, huh?

[–]Anus_master 4 points5 points ago

It's apple and oranges really, different types of big stompy robots. They both look fun to me.

[–]Gingor 2 points3 points ago

Hawken's arent even big. They are just slightly bigger than humans.

Now, MWO, THAT has big mechs.

[–]Symmenix 2 points3 points ago

Hawken is like the counter strike of mech games. Lol.

[–]FortunePaw 1 point2 points ago

No. The first "next-gen" mechwarrior had a trailer/teaser up about 3 years ago (google "mechwarrior 3015") way before Hawken even been made. But they couldn't find a publisher because the game was mainly single player. They then made that into MMo that publisher just love to milk. And now we finally has a next-gen real mech game.

[–]ModernRonin 0 points1 point ago

Think you just made my point for me.

[–]FortunePaw 0 points1 point ago

What point? What I was saying is that Hawken didn't "threat" them to "get off their lazy asses and release another MW." They was already doing a MW even before Hawken was been made.

And, they wasn't on "their lazy asses." The whole MW series' right belonged to Microsoft. M$ ditched the series after mediocre feedback of MW4. MW's original creator formed their own company (Smith & Tinker), brought the right (MW, shadowrun, and Crimson Skies) from M$, and start on planning on the next MW installment. They wasn't "lazy", there was just Microsoft.

[–]ModernRonin 0 points1 point ago

They was already doing a MW even before Hawken was been made.

The publishers couldn't get their shit together and take all our money until someone else actually threatened to make a good 'mech game.

MW's original creator formed their own company (Smith & Tinker), brought the right (MW, shadowrun, and Crimson Skies) from M$, and start on planning on the next MW installment. They wasn't "lazy", there was just Microsoft.

MicroSoft and Harmony Gold are the asshat publishers who wouldn't get their shit together.

[–]MarylandMaverick 0 points1 point ago

I've been waiting for a good clunker mech game since Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries. MW3 was almost a different universe because of the gameplay changes, and MW4 just never lived up to the hype. I have HUGE hopes for MWO.

[–]Jinassi 0 points1 point ago

There is an alternative.

[–]DodgeKramer 0 points1 point ago

There is no alternative.

[–]chriscancook21 0 points1 point ago

My uncle has been a big Mechwarrior fan since it was a D&D type game, he still has a lot of his old figurines and stat sheets from back in the day. He kept up with all the mechwarrior games up to the most recent one. With this one coming out he is going to chip in with me to supe-up my PC enough to play the game since he doesn't own one and mine is lacking.

[–]foolyexcel 14 points15 points ago

Mech Warrior 2: Mercenaries was what started me on the whole mech kick. Those were good times...

[–]Timepotato 7 points8 points ago

MWO is [REDACTED] I just hope they add some [REDACTED]. I Really hope the final product is as good as Mech Warrior 2: Mercenaries.

[–]jusu 48 points49 points ago

That will always the MW2 for me. Screw the other games.

[–]DragonRaptor 12 points13 points ago

I'm sorry but Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries is way better!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=at9hxU864Fg

[–]wpnw 5 points6 points ago

God I played the shit out of that game back in the day. Wish I still had it. :(

[–]VisionShift 2 points3 points ago

It's free now, google it.

[–]Raticide 3 points4 points ago

But now I don't have one of those crazy joysticks with the levers and shit :(

[–]jusu 2 points3 points ago

Sure, but that would not be MW2, that would be MW2M :)

[–]seweroutlet 15 points16 points ago

[–]Ikeelu 2 points3 points ago

i am sad to say i never played MW2, but loved MW3. 4 though... now that sucked.

[–]BumrushSC2 5 points6 points ago

Anyone remember ReVolt? that was activision wasn't it? That shit was cray

[–]SpineBuster 0 points1 point ago

I still play it from time to time on my netbook.

[–]cycostinkoman 0 points1 point ago

That was one of the best racing games ever. It also had an amazing soundtrack.

[–]harakirijohn 5 points6 points ago

Last time I checked they still release very good games from time to time...

But you you might be right HURRDURR EA ACTIVISION PRIME EVILS.

[–]900900900900 9 points10 points ago

Post any companies game from the 90s - say "when 'x' company was actually good" - receive karma

[–]Jinassi 0 points1 point ago

See this jewel.

[–]m4xin30n[!] 0 points1 point ago

I still get goose bumps when I see this intro.

[–]theRainChicken 21 points22 points ago

The bravery levels are off the Paulometer!

[–]britkid49 2 points3 points ago

I cannot take the bravery!!!

[–]blackjackjester -2 points-1 points ago

If only I had something to believe.

[–]Mrlongleggedmcdaddy 6 points7 points ago

Spyro, you will live in our hearts...

[–]bluejacket 3 points4 points ago

or the first soldier of fortune, i loved that game

[–]captainblackout 0 points1 point ago

This. Chopping every last giblet into smaller giblets of meat was inexplicably entertaining for me when I played that game.

[–]Pigfloop 3 points4 points ago

The one with a minigun for a face was unreal but the Timberwolf will always be my favourite.

[–]hapaxLegomina 3 points4 points ago

HOOAH!

I still vividly remember the computer voice at the beginning of every level saying "all systems nominal." I bought a MW2 CD pack with all the expansion kits despite not having owned a windows computer for years. One day. One. Day.

[–]Spikor 5 points6 points ago

This will always be what I think of when I see Activision.

[–]Tyler_Was_Here 7 points8 points ago

http://imgur.com/F8p1l Those were the days

[–]priceofsoap 0 points1 point ago

Mr. Renda I'm disappointed in you.

[–]anonspersona 2 points3 points ago

This game brings back so many memories.

[–]ahovahov8 0 points1 point ago

The era before MW2 was when Activision was actually respected. Tony Hawk games were the shit, Call of Duty map packs were $10 for a fair amount of content, and they weren't shoving things down your throat. Back then people used to say "Fuck EA, Activision is the best company ever!"

[–]Noxislight 2 points3 points ago

Why wont any develloper take this and mix it with that and make a game like BF2142.

[–]SpineBuster 1 point2 points ago

I'm assuming you haven't heard of the crysis mod mechwarrior living legends??? Its pretty damn good, I've played the hell out of for the past couple years.

[–]Jinassi 0 points1 point ago

There is something like that altough not FPS. Link

[–]KrampusBeats 2 points3 points ago

I played the shit out of this game, I had a joystick and everything.

Enemy mech destroyed :D

[–]Am_I_Annoying 0 points1 point ago

I have this game and haven't played it yet. Is it any good?

[–]dathom 2 points3 points ago

Best Intro Ever

I've got a working version on dosbox that I still play from time to time. So good. MW2 wasn't bad, but Mercenaries will always be #1.

[–]Big-Baby-Jesus 6 points7 points ago

The immense bravery of this post is an inspiration to us all.

[–]Galaxy613 -1 points0 points ago

Brave posts never see the front page of any section.

[–]dropkickninja 3 points4 points ago

this was badass back in the day. still the game i always think of whenever someone says mw2

[–]krenzo 3 points4 points ago

This is so true, not because it was a good game, but because MW2 was in development hell for a long time. A lesser publisher would have said "screw it" and shipped it out the door in its poor state. Instead, they restarted development and waited. It was covered in magazines for years and was vaporware for a long time, but it was worth the wait when it finally came out. Then, they also released the multiplayer add-on pack, Netmech, for free after the original release. It was a good time to be a trueborn.

[–]cyguration 1 point2 points ago

Multiplayer add-on pack for free?

Hmm...that's how it looked back in 1995.

Statement corrected for 2012: Mutliplayer DLC pack for $19.99...only $9.99 if you have the $59.99 annual premium pass.

[–]bobthecookie 0 points1 point ago

$60 annual pass? For what?!

[–]cyguration 0 points1 point ago

The exclusive multiplayer content. Cutom insignias, voice chat and clan creation. =/

[–]maxpayne485 3 points4 points ago

I LITERALLY JUST FOUND MY CD FOR THIS GAME!!!

[–]DragonRaptor 2 points3 points ago

Still have mine, Pop it in your CD player/dvd player for you younger folks, and skip to track 2.

[–]fizzlefist 1 point2 points ago

Used to do that with my Warcraft 2 CDs

[–]K__a__M__I 3 points4 points ago

When Activision was actually still Activision.

FTFY

[–]grizzgreen -1 points0 points ago

when Activision gave a shit

FTFY

[–]ShiningRayde 2 points3 points ago

The best part of this game for me now: In the scanning cargo training mission, one of the boxes is labeled: HERC PARTS (USELESS)

I shed a manly tear.

[–]cyguration 2 points3 points ago

Men don't cry tears, we bleed salt from our eyes.

[–]Ell223 2 points3 points ago

How many times are we going to have Mech Warrior 2 posted on this god awful subreddit?

[–]internetexplorerftw 0 points1 point ago

SO BRAVE

[–]emce_octopus 1 point2 points ago

THPS... THU... anyone?

[–]SmooshyXz 1 point2 points ago

I thought they did a great job on Tony Hawks Underground.

[–]emce_octopus 0 points1 point ago

World destruction tour?!?! Hell yeah.

[–]caql9vin 1 point2 points ago

I loved this game!....despite the fact that I was terrible at it.

[–]earthenorange 1 point2 points ago

Whenever I see a post that says MW2 or MW3, this is what I think of.

[–]zimboy94 1 point2 points ago

This... was... THE SHIIIIIIIIT!

[–]red3yejedi 1 point2 points ago

Netmech on Kali anyone?

[–]K4ge 1 point2 points ago

Mech Warrior 2 came with our very first family computer, an NEC with Windows 95 and a Pentium I processor.

We got a fairly think booklet with a bunch of software, including some pretty great games (Mech Warrior 2, Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure, Wipeout, among others).

This was also back when we thought the paper clip guy in Microsoft Word was cute.

[–]mynameisomar 1 point2 points ago

Hey, the new Spider-Man game wasn't bad.

[–]emce_octopus 1 point2 points ago

Ultimate one was great tho.

[–]IWasZack99 1 point2 points ago

My first computer game ever

[–]thealaskinwonder 1 point2 points ago

I knew what the image was before it loaded. Loved this game!

[–]straydog13 1 point2 points ago

I could pilot the shit out of Hellbringer before I was even allowed to say it's name

[–]lowScore 1 point2 points ago

[–]bigbear75 0 points1 point ago

I literally just moaned upon opening this link. Memories

[–]Leechen 0 points1 point ago

FUCK YEAH!

[–]Argi_ 0 points1 point ago

Why is no one mentioning Rodney's Fun Screen?

[–]Jesh010 0 points1 point ago

played this for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

[–]nachoooo 0 points1 point ago

Transformers

[–]Vargolol 0 points1 point ago

From time to time I feel the need to go onto youtube and listen to the whole soundtrack, then it's systems nominal for the rest of the day!

[–]welfaretrain 0 points1 point ago

I played this game for hours back in the day and I have yet to actually figure out what to do. I still loved every second of it.

[–]Grizak 0 points1 point ago

I still play Jedi Knight 2 (and sometimes Academy, but I don't like admitting that too much.) I also still play Call of Duty 2. Activision still hods a special place in my heart, even if I don't particularly like what they've been doing lately.

[–]BubbleGumSelf 1 point2 points ago

Having two computers and a brother made this oh so epic.

[–]Darqon 0 points1 point ago

I HAVE THIS GAME! It's right next to me and I haven't played it in a decade. Was thinking about a short playthrough on YT.

[–]MalekTaktak 0 points1 point ago

Obligatory Spiderman 1 & 2

[–]1leggeddog 0 points1 point ago

My first Pc game i ever played online.

and still the BEST SOUNDTRACK OF ANY GAME, EVER.

[–]virtualmatrix555 0 points1 point ago

Ugh. I had this back in the day, when I moved out of my house when I was 15 my dad took a box of my old PC games (including this) and lit it on fire...kills me. Although seeing the name Acitivision on such a good game title is eye boggling.

[–]JamaicanHopscotchM 0 points1 point ago

I got excited until I saw that they're selling every aspect piece mail which makes me sad.

[–]pcgame-jedi 0 points1 point ago

Every time I see a new Activision CoD MW game I think of MechWarrior instead.

[–]zip99 0 points1 point ago

epic soundtrack

[–]Mavrik85 0 points1 point ago

Those were great times...

Learned a ton about how computer software works as a teenager when I kept modding the game and playing online (mercenaries). Good old windows 95.

Had to lead the targets like crazy with those dial up modems, hah.

[–]istillnarrowmyeyes 1 point2 points ago

Choose your motherfucking clan

[–]KingMarcMarc 0 points1 point ago

I got this game in a pack of free games and programs with my first Sony Viao... The fuckin' good 'ol days, ladies... The good 'ol days. What the hell happened? Cheers.

[–]ghostretch 0 points1 point ago

I miss this game so much.

[–]dirmaster0 0 points1 point ago

I still love Mechwarrior & Battletech >.> <.< It holds a place in my heart forever!

[–]dirmaster0 0 points1 point ago

Also Draconis Combine/Clan Ghost Bear for life!

[–]murderbum999 0 points1 point ago

I've always wanted a good mech game. I missed out on that genre, turning into an outback kid for a decade before getting back into computers.

[–]sopa-steve 0 points1 point ago

I only have one thing to say...enola gay.

[–]setrakakan 0 points1 point ago

I.. actually preferred Armored Core to Mechwarrior.

[–]QueefMuffin 0 points1 point ago

Enemy mech, destroyed.

[–]tklite 0 points1 point ago

Memories...

[–]sleet01 0 points1 point ago

[–]variare 0 points1 point ago

i loved this game <3

[–]Jesusthecarpenter 0 points1 point ago

Did they make vigilante 8?? I played that game loads.

[–]cloudedknife 0 points1 point ago

It's just unfortunate that they then sat on the rights (while not using them) while the original "inventor" of the game was trying desperately to get all the (now scattered) publishing rights back under one roof so the game could be brought back to life. Took so damn long the game was still dead after he succeeded.

I still have all my FASA books and wish more than any other table top game that i could play it again.

[–]Ethendasean 0 points1 point ago

So much love for the Mechwarrior series!

[–]wellthatsfantastic 0 points1 point ago

I'm making more accounts to upvote this more.

[–]dez4u 0 points1 point ago

Oh good, I can't wait for every goddamn person to post awful Atari games as [fixed]. Go get 'em internet humor lords.

LE SO BRAVE xDD DAE HATE ACTIVISION?!?!?!

[–]SteveRestless 1 point2 points ago

Best Mechwarrior game(Considering 2/gbl/2mercs as one game.) 3 was Second Best. Wish they'd remake this with modern graphics.

[–]WHM-6R 1 point2 points ago

Well OP's post may be brave, but I think all of the people jumping on the bravery bandwagon are the true SO BRAVE heroes of this thread.

[–]anikan72 -1 points0 points ago

Yeah! Fuck Tony Hawk Pro Skater, Call of Duty 1 and 4, Guitar Hero 2 & 3, Crash Bandicoot and Spyro! Activision was only good in 1995!

[–]Defiantish 1 point2 points ago

whats with the hate with activision? Don't need to fix anything that is making them 8 figure numbers every release

[–]StarTrekMike 0 points1 point ago

Just because something makes a load of cash does not make it good.

The OP was talking about the fact that Mechwarrior 2 (and Merc's) brought back memories of a time when even big companies like EA and Activision were making loads of money by actually making good games, the put effort and passion into ever release and it showed.

Nowadays, EA and Activision just buy a company, grind that companies most popular IP into the dirt and then move on after closing said company and firing everyone.

I don't see how this is not clear to you.

[–]OleicAcid 1 point2 points ago

DOES ANYONE ELSE REMEMBER THIS GEM

[–]mongip -4 points-3 points ago

I'll upvote that!

[–]Dreolic -3 points-2 points ago

CoD4 was amazing. What came after it, not so good but the first Modern Warfare was brilliant.

[–]Owlskickass 0 points1 point ago

DAE remember this game XD

OMG Call of Duty is so bad lolol

[–]ShortSpine -1 points0 points ago

Everyone gets upvotes because I fucking loved MW2.
