Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

This is probably a modified version of the R2-D2 toy. It has those same compartments on either side, and can rotate its head and move around. It does a bunch of different things on command, too; it's actually a really neat little guy. I have one.

Nope. This is 100% custom made from scrap materials. It has a steel frame, but is mostly plastic with a few wood pieces here and there. The head was done separately and I believe began as an art project by the builder. I could give away the secrets of it's head, but I'd rather let the builder himself do that.

It's not. I shared a studio space with Barton at LSU and watched him build the head and most of the body. I can attest that the frame, body and head, at least, are all built from scratch.

Excuse me sir, ::pushes up glasses:: but while that is indeed an R2 Astromech Droid, it most certainly is not R2D2. The coloring is incorrect, as R2D2 was blue and white and this droid is white, purple, and gold. It could be any other R2 droid, or possibly R3. Gosh!

His name is Barton Gilley [Jill-E] and his email is Bartongilley@yahoo.com. He gave me the OK to give that out so anyone interested can get in touch with him. You wouldn't be wasting his time to just talk it over so don't worry about that. This build was made with a steel frame necessary to support the weight of a full keg and is otherwise mostly plastic w/ little wood after that. I think the big price hiking characteristics are the motion sensor tap-arm, the compression system, and the head motion and lights. It involved quite a bit of electrical and wiring work. Maybe there could be some high-cost components y'all feel you could otherwise do without. Doesn't hurt to try!

Hey, guys. The builder of this version of R2 is not a redditor, but he's been finding out about this picture getting around. It's pretty exciting for him since R2 has been in service for over 2 years and he would like to create more for anyone interested in having their own R2 keg shell or R2 baby-torture-box or R2 whatever floats your stuff. This R2 keg shell is 100% custom hand made from scratch materials of steel, plastic, and wood and he would like to have more commissioned.
