What's so awful about the video is that after all of this rough play she still didn't get a red card.

[–]Zlurpo 50 points51 points ago

She got suspended from the team after this game and the video went viral.

[–]Afa1234 22 points23 points ago

Good

[–]suddenly_mozzarella 56 points57 points ago

I will absolutely guarantee you that Lambert was waiting until the referee looked away. If the ref doesn't see it, they can't card it.

Players who do this are cheating sociopaths, yes, but they aren't stupid.

EDIT: Also, this happened three years ago, and doesn't belong in /r/funny.

[–]Throwawayvegtables 9 points10 points ago

They can be sent off if seen by either assistant referees or the fourth official. The ref doesn't have to see it, but one of the officials does.

[–]FloatYerBoat 8 points9 points ago

You! You violent degenerate that is intentionally hurting people! For your actions you shall receive a card!

[–]Zaethar -1 points0 points ago

And be sent off the field, without allowing the team to replace the offending player (which effectively limits their numbers), and be forced to sit out the next one to three matches.

The first yellow card is a 'warning'. Second one'll get you a red card, and very serious offenses can immediately lead to a red card.

[–]FloatYerBoat 0 points1 point ago

Good to know. Does anyone ever get a red card? I suppose it's as rare as a player getting kicked out of the game in American Football.

[–]guitarman85 0 points1 point ago

No, much more common than that. Depending on the league I'm sure it could be an every game occurrence

[–]Awesomeclaw 0 points1 point ago

A couple of players received red cards during the Olympic football: There was a straight red in the Japan vs. Egypt match (http://www.fifa.com/mensolympic/matches/round=256021/match=300197694/index.html) and two double-yellows in the Brazil-Honduras match (http://www.fifa.com/mensolympic/matches/round=256021/match=300197696/index.html)

[–]rabbitlion 0 points1 point ago

Most commonly, fouling someone who has the ball when there are no defenders between him and the goal (excluding the goalkeeper) is an automatic red card.

Here's a reference to how many red cards are given out in the four major leagues: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_pMRjCwGDjRY/TTyNhf_6IAI/AAAAAAAAAX0/f1ILu2LFtyo/s1600/red+cards+histogram+big+four+2005-09.png

[–]wootmonster 0 points1 point ago

IIRC, two yellows does not automatically have to translate to a red card. It is up to the ref whether or not to give red after two yellows.

However, it is pretty standard for a player that receives two yellows to receive a red and be sent off.

I was way off... as explained below, I was confused. Thank you rabbitlion for pointing that out.

[–]SasparillaTango 1 point2 points ago

Is it from hallmark? What does it say? Does it have a picture of a corgi in it? I love corgis

[–]m1w1 124 points125 points ago

The full-length video shows that the hair-pulling girl, Elizabeth Lambert, was playing pretty dirty all game.

[–]verik 135 points136 points ago

Dirty is tackling spikes up or tackling from behind. She was down right criminal in this match.

[–]ios_k 15 points16 points ago

I don't know how you guys play football here in America, but back in Europe tackle from behind is a straight red card.

[–]Flene 64 points65 points ago

Here in America we call that a "sack".

[–]NorthStarTX 26 points27 points ago

In America tackling from behind is a time honored tradition. You just can't lead with the helmet.

[–]joshjje 8 points9 points ago

Here in my bedroom, we call that a score.

[–]Caustical 4 points5 points ago

Here in your bedroom,

I can turn my head off

The less that I feel

Is the less that I'm on top

[–]pirate_doug 1 point2 points ago

And it's frowned upon to go for the knees.

[–]udbluehens 3 points4 points ago

In America, we call that legitimate rape.

[–]ios_k 2 points3 points ago

So tell me again what happens if pregnancy occurs in said rape.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]ios_k 2 points3 points ago

No I did not confuse football with handegg.

[–]asosaki 4 points5 points ago

Actually contrary to popular belief, the term 'soccer' actually comes from England, and the term 'football' was originally a generic term for any game that's played when on your feet (as opposed to horseback). http://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2010/06/the-origin-of-the-word-soccer/

[–]verik 2 points3 points ago

This is correct. The oxford slang created 3 terms. Footer (football or rugby), rugger (rugby), and soccer (football). Always baffled me how everyone in England is so condescending when we pay homage to their 1880's slang.

[–]mrpickles 20 points21 points ago

Not to mention outright punching players!

[–]umop_apisdn 2 points3 points ago

But the other player did elbow her in the chest first.

[–]Afa1234 5 points6 points ago

The elbow was more of a nudge, thats pretty regular once you get up there in pretty much any physical sport

[–]Deformed_Crab 5 points6 points ago

Where she punched the other woman in the back, the other one clearly elbowed her first. What was the point of that?

[–]wicket146 30 points31 points ago

What a fucking cunt.

[–]mrpickles 11 points12 points ago

holy shit, that red shirt girl is a sociopath!

[–]uSeeWhatiDidThere 2 points3 points ago

It's funny because BYU (the girl being abused's team) won anyway

[–]LaughterAndChaos 0 points1 point ago

thank you for that sir, it made my day

[–]MrMonkfred 75 points76 points ago

If you edited the girl behind her out of the video, it would look like she just sneezed really hard.

[–]Arkanian410 29 points30 points ago

come on reddit, make it so

[–]Breathing_Balls 14 points15 points ago

Fuck you, Picard.

[–]JakJakAttacks 4 points5 points ago

[–]Breathing_Balls 1 point2 points ago

[–]FatGrover 22 points23 points ago

working on it... may take a while... :/

meh... I'm done... not enough time...

[–]NudeTayneMNW 26 points27 points ago

Now she looks like some time travelling she-bitch.

[–]AATroop 2 points3 points ago

Looks like a night-stalker from Fallout New Vegas.

[–]Lazerus42 2 points3 points ago

ok, super power activate!... HAIR PULL!

[–]Neandarthal 63 points64 points ago

She was suspended following the game. Easily the worst kind of sportsmanship I've seen.

[–]fefyfofeather 13 points14 points ago

She was given a yellow card for tripping, but the pony tail body slam was completely okay?

[–]isthat_edward_towers 18 points19 points ago

If it wasn't seen by a ref then it can't be carded. To my understanding at least. Had it been seen she would have been red carded.

[–]DHav123 6 points7 points ago

It's actually the opposite when it comes to suspensions. If the ref saw it and chose to do nothing, she can't be suspended for it. If he/she didn't see it (usually indicated by the incident being absent from his/her match report) then the player can be suspended.

[–]secondtimeuser 0 points1 point ago

This is true. There are no reply or challenge in soccer, so the refs has a lot of power.

[–]Ebil_shenanigans 12 points13 points ago

I remember this. Wasn't it from a while ago?

...if I remember correctly, video coverage over the entire match shows the BYU girl (white, pony tail that got yanked) was hitting/elbowing the other girl. You can see her grabbing and pulling on her shorts just before the hair pull. I'll try to look for the article stating this.

Here it is: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/11/06/elizabeth-lambert-new-mex_n_349234.html

Red shirt gets elbowed during dead ball. Tension was rising all game. It wasn't some random act of violence.

[–]aggatt 0 points1 point ago

regardless of weather or not it was provoked, it was still crossing the line. That girl should have been suspended for more than 1 game.

[–]pirate_doug 0 points1 point ago

She was suspended "indefinitely". I can't seem to find a follow up to see how long she was actually suspended for.

[–]daedaluscapn 0 points1 point ago

Whether*

[–]mjaybe 0 points1 point ago

The article you posted explains that the person doing the elbowing was actually Ms. Lambert herself. Pulling on shorts, tugging someone's jersey, etc, is really common in most sports.

[–]CrossCheckPanda 1 point2 points ago

Apparently your not familiar with "Zidane"

[–]Neandarthal 0 points1 point ago

Zidane was provocated throughout the game that day and vented out with a 'minor' headbutt. He was otherwise a cool customer his entire career. This chic though, let her frustration kick in on several occasions. The coach is also to be blamed partly.

[–]CrossCheckPanda 0 points1 point ago

I don't know this girl, so you are probably right. This specific thing was clearly intentional, but not as truly violent in my humble opinion, and that shorts tug, while not a penalty, was sorta harassment directly before it happened

[–]Anon090 10 points11 points ago

She got suspended.

[–]guns_of_navarone 2 points3 points ago

I love it when someone like that gives a canned apology. Yeah, yeah, you're not sorry that you played like a cunt, you're sorry it was caught on film.

[–]isthat_edward_towers 2 points3 points ago

I hope it was for the whole season and not a couple games. It wasn't an isolated incident, she was seen punching and kicking other players the whole game. Like bitch chill the fuck out, everyone can play fair but you.

In my opinion everyone should act like nothing is wrong and just promote her to mens soccer and watch her get destroyed on the field.

[–]Jrook 3 points4 points ago

If you watch the video the girl she pulled down by the hair instigated it nearly every single time. She either elbowed her or pulled on her pants. She started the fights.

[–]Mobidad 4 points5 points ago

Ender Wiggin style, I like that. Pull on my pants, I'm going to throw you to the ground by your hair.

[–]LerithXanatos 0 points1 point ago

Wiggin style is more like pull on my pants, I am going to break your neck on accident when I throw you to the ground.

[–]rctsolid 270 points271 points ago

What a terrible person. Absolute disregard for sportsmanship. I spit on you.

[–]EmceePohLee 42 points43 points ago

She was suspended indefinitely after the video started making the rounds on the internet.

[–]grantly0711 18 points19 points ago

Or after it made rounds on SportCenter that day... Seriously, I remember this happening. It was all they talked about.

[–]bmc2 5 points6 points ago

[–]gusbustafunk 6 points7 points ago

What a raging bitch.

[–]shion005 0 points1 point ago

Only two games? o.O If she did that outside of a soccer field she'd have faced criminal charges. It may have happened in 2009, but boooo!

[–]j0phus 128 points129 points ago

What is white doing to red's shorts? That doesn't seem like good sportsmanship either.

[–]esprit-libre 36 points37 points ago

This isn't uncommon in football. A little tugging of jerseys and shorts is harmless.

Edit; I'm not justifying Red's actions. I'm just simply stating that the tugging by White wouldn't have provoked hair-pulling by any other player. Elizabeth Lambert is just crazy.

[–]Alabama_Man 16 points17 points ago

Apparently not.

[–]el__duderino 13 points14 points ago

In the heat of the moment it can lead players to lose their cool. The other player did just that and got the card because of it. The idea is to provoke the other team to make dumb mistakes that can lose them the game. It's really fair to call that person a terrible person because it's completely provoked. It is fair to call them a hot head that needs to learn to keep their emotions in check.

[–]usedtowork 4 points5 points ago

[–]CaseyG 0 points1 point ago

It's amazing how little you see on that subreddit when you have Reddit Enhancement Suite configured to "Office Computer" mode.

[–]CrossCheckPanda 3 points4 points ago

seriously if someone (okay... if a guy) was doing that to my pants I'd have the same reaction

[–]ickler 16 points17 points ago

What? she's covering her. There's a little pushing and pulling. It was probably a corner or something. And Elizabeth Lambert is known for very dirty play.

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504083_162-5709718-504083.html

[–]raging_asshole 3 points4 points ago

Giving her a serious fwedgie (the dreaded front wedgie).

[–]blueatlanta 8 points9 points ago

im pretty sure grabbing clothes is par for the course in soccer and it isnt even frowned upon

[–]DHav123 56 points57 points ago

It's actually a yellow card, per the rules.

[–]blueatlanta 3 points4 points ago

you must have to be blatant about it then, i see it all the time

[–]Mad_Madam_Mim 16 points17 points ago

It's true. I played soccer all the way up to D1 college (Go Rebs!). I have been completely depantsed by a defender during a game versus Georgia.

Girls can get really upset on the pitch. I've been spit on, slapped, punched, chased after and so many more things. I once had a girl offer me money to stop running so much (I was a forward).

[–]GummyDeath 4 points5 points ago

I played all girls team sports in school and could not believe how mean the girls were. No sportsmanship at all and really vindictive after practice if heaven forbid you tackled one of them.

[–]Mad_Madam_Mim 2 points3 points ago

Exactly! I never understood that. What goes on during the game has little to do with life outside of that game.

[–]Qurtys_Lyn 1 point2 points ago

I played coed soccer for years, and the girls were always worse than the guys. If I tackled a guy and took him down, I could reach down help him up and apologize and that was that. I might get tackled later for it, but hey all part of the game.

Heaven forbid I would have to tackle a girl (and I did). I became the focus of their hatred for the rest of the game.

[–]GummyDeath 1 point2 points ago

Just the game? Lucky you. If I tackled a girl during a game her and her cronies would be waiting after the game to exact their revenge.

[–]TheAmazingSpider 1 point2 points ago

But you said "no purple dragons"!

[–]Mad_Madam_Mim 2 points3 points ago

[–]MadMageMC 3 points4 points ago

I can never get too much of The Marvelous, Magnificent, Mad Madame Mim!

[–]gnorty 0 points1 point ago

That's because you are interested in watching the developing game, which is not necessarily the player with he ball. Referees need to watch the ball much more, hence can miss things like this. Not to say they don't ignore minor infringements, because they do, but they miss a lot of "off the ball" incidents which spectators see easily.

Of course, if you watch on TV you have an enormous advantage over the referee, and you should not really be surprised when you see things the ref missed.

[–]brentose[!] 2 points3 points ago

Can't we just agree that neither of these athletes are good or sportsmen.

[–]dsr541 5 points6 points ago

True, but I think red took it a little too far.

[–]Breathing_Balls 39 points40 points ago

I believe a naked mud wrestling contest would resolve this argument.

[–]emperornibble 0 points1 point ago

I dont know. Yanking up on the crotch like that? She probably pulled some pubes. Pull my hair, I will pull yours kind of thing. Either way, cause and effect.

[–]moo1991 -1 points0 points ago

little bit of an extreme reaction though

[–]Theonetrue 1 point2 points ago

The difference is a yellow card and pretty much every player does it and the other one is a red card and no one in their right mind would do this

[–]Meat_Confetti 1 point2 points ago

Betcha white won't do it again, though.

[–]rctsolid 0 points1 point ago

Difference is one is reasonable rough play, the other is full on physical assault, not to mention the ball being nowhere NEAR either of them. Also, in the vid linked somewhere in here, she's seen repeatedly punching other players throughout the match. She belongs in a boxing ring, not a soccer pitch.

[–]Zlurpo 1 point2 points ago

Pushing her backwards. Moments before, white had kinda elbowed red in the stomach. But that's because red had been acting up the whole game (I watched this game, white is my school).

[–]BreSput 1 point2 points ago

It's pretty much to piss off the other player. In men's soccer, the dirtier players will nonchalantly throw the wrist back hoping to hit the other player's genitals as well.

[–]drc500free 2 points3 points ago

I remember this from years ago. Full video shows the other girl elbowing her for the entire match.

[–]matt01ss 5 points6 points ago

Is there something on karmadecay that generates this formatted text?

[–]Nick2632 0 points1 point ago

Nothing specific to his account. Check out this link to see some of the formatting tricks.

EDIT : I just realized you may have been asking how the articles are compiled into a table/list, not how to actually make the table itself.

[–]matt01ss 2 points3 points ago

Well I always see people post the exact same formatted table of data from karma decay. Always beginning with, "Others seeking more info.." so I assumed there was some link somewhere in karmadecay that generates a set of text that people then paste into their comment textbox.

[–]MrGoodbytes 2 points3 points ago

When you put a URL into Karmadecay, it automatically generates coding for the comment with a table, etc.

[–]JediMasterSam 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, it says "share to reddit." You click that and the text is all there, ready to go. It's a simple copy and paste job.

[–]moar_noaw 2 points3 points ago

There's a button "share on reddit" that gives you all of the code for such a comment.

[–]matt01ss 1 point2 points ago

Ah, that's exactly what I was looking for.

[–]moar_noaw 1 point2 points ago

[–]GummyDeath 2 points3 points ago

I'm sure I'm going to get downvoted to oblivion for this... But in my experience (Rugby, field hockey, soccer in highschool and college) girls playing sports are really fucking vindictive.

[–]schoocher 2 points3 points ago

So is it strange that I get turned on every time I see this?

[–]PhatDaddy420 0 points1 point ago

Reddit, showing old ass pictures over and over with different titles to grow their e-peen.

[–]pingspike 3 points4 points ago

Everyone so outraged and I am too, but I can clearly see her giving the other girl a vag-wedge. Not being a girl I dunno how uncomfortable that is, but I'm sure it's not fun.

[–]ba9man 1 point2 points ago

I see your vag-wedge, and raise you a ax-handle, pony-tail take down.

Good point. The video is taken out of context, too. We don't see all the dirt from either standpoint.

I played the role of an "enforcer". If provoked, I would retaliate. If a forward or a key player was fouled hard, my mark gets it worse. There has to be a consequence for certain actions.

This is how some competetive sports are played. The levels to which this woman raised the stakes should have been caught. I assure you, once she got the yellow, she probably would have backed off. That yellow never game, and that's how a ref loses control of a match.

[–]pingspike 1 point2 points ago

Yeah the discreet stuff usually gets missed first time round. I remember when this happened on tv (well, the internet) and everyone went wild. Back then I missed the sneaky crotch wedgie.

[–]Smokratez 1 point2 points ago

Where is the usual soccer is for ballerinas talk? If even the girls play like that.

[–]Space_Bungalow 0 points1 point ago

[–]diggitydan 1 point2 points ago

she played dirty but in her defense it looks like they were really goading her into it. They probably knew she had issues and kept it up. Look at how she's pulling at her shorts before the hair pull.

I'm not advocating it. just an observation I had.

[–]bebederp 0 points1 point ago

Somebody give this girl a sound ass-beating. Preferably somebody with a vagina.

This is going to get buried but this was the focus of the sports news here in New Mexico for so long (red shirt is a NM Lobo) and UNM did a huge apology to blue shirt girls University and we were pretty much completely embarassed by this fucking bitch.

I like how the second before her hair gets pulled, her smile goes away. She knows what is about to happen...

It seems like in soccer men are more aggressive than women in adolescent years. As we get older though it seems like women are the tougher of the two. In professional soccer women don't do the rolling on the floor bullshit the men do.

I remember when this happened. Probably the only time espn actually gave a shit about woman's soccer.

[–]turbokiwi 0 points1 point ago

I can't see how this is funny.

[–]Tom_Hanks13 1 point2 points ago

Really? Has no one noticed the other girl trying to give her a wedgie? The other chick started it.

[–]snarkviolin -1 points0 points ago

I'm not sure how hard she pulled, but I feel the BYU girl could have taken that standing up. I'm probably the millionth person to say this but 30% of soccer is flops. I played select soccer in high school and even at that age people do that stuff

[–]angelxe1 1 point2 points ago

how was she not removed from the game? craziness.

[–]Karmasour 1 point2 points ago

This girl is probably a downright beast in bed

At first I thought that I couldn't see the ball either and that it was invisible to begin with. Than looked closely to see the Scumbag Steve move pulled by the other player.

I remember this. Its from the Sportsmanship fail video.
