How could someone let it get that bad? I can't imagine the pain! I shudder at the thought of stubbing that toe on a nightstand late at night.

Imagine what they have to do to fix this.

Idk. But they should film it

It's not too bad, usually. I've never let mine get that bad.

Usually you just get the nail cut out of what's digging into the skin.

Worst part is the shots to numb up the toe.

I can fill you in on that.

First, they numb the toe by wrapping a very thick rubber band around the base. After the toe is numb, the shoot novocaine into the toe. This will make it 99% numb. Then, they cut away the infected skin. After that, the doctor will cut the toe nail back to where it should be. They will then dip two q-tips in an acid and place it on each side of the nail. This will help prevent this from happening again. They clean it up, wrap it up, tell you what to buy so you can change the dressing on your own, and you're done.

Source; This happened to me a few years ago. Though, it wasn't nearly as bad for me as it is in the picture.

As someone who has dealt with this (not nearly as bad as in the pic though), I can tell you that whenever I would stub my toe I would want to kill everyone around me for about twenty minutes.

I don't understand how anyone could even let it get that bad!

This happened to me, though not nearly as bad as this person. It happened to me because wore the same pair of shoes for too long. They got overly small on my feet, but I continued to wear them. My toes were forced into, as the Doc put it, 'unhealthy positions' and caused the nails on both of my big toes to grow down instead of out, like normal.

A few hundred dollars, five shots of novocaine, and a few hours in a doctors office later my toes were good to go. Well, after about a week of healing.

TL;DR - When your shoes get too small, fucking buy new ones.
