I don't text/phone and drive because I'm too busy fiddling with my satnav and switching songs on my iPod.

[–]mog_knight 28 points29 points ago

People put so much emphasis on texting and driving. Why not make putting makeup on while driving illegal? Eating and driving should be gone too. Hell, why not drinking and driving too. I've seen people on laptops and driving, perfectly legal. There is a whole shitload of things I would want gone before texting and driving.

[–]chris2086 27 points28 points ago

Yeah the local law hear is actually distracted driving, so they can pretty much nail you for whatever if you don't have two free hands.

[–]OtisDElevator 6 points7 points ago

Great, my wife can still give me a blowjob while I drive.

[–]Rachop 2 points3 points ago

She can give you a blowjob while she drives.

[–]fintorro 5 points6 points ago

Exactly. However I think that whatever you ban you will always have the same amount of morons and arseholes on the road regardless. I just wish you could call the police and say 'look this guy isn't committing a crime but he's acting like a complete cunt and he's going to get someone killed unless you come and stop him'.

[–]mog_knight -1 points0 points ago

Unless you tell them it looks like a DUI, I have said people before driving recklessly (slaloming through traffic and speeding) and they didn't seem to care much.

[–]dietotaku 3 points4 points ago

drinking (normal beverages) and driving is the only thing i see as being different from the others, because it requires neither both hands off the wheel nor looking away from the road.

[–]mog_knight 6 points7 points ago

I once heard (this may be false) that European engineers found it odd that we need a cup holder leading me to believe their drivers never drink beverages of any kind behind the wheel.

[–]TheD888 9 points10 points ago

i keep my cup in the cup holder, then just use a really long bendy straw

[–]shorty6049 3 points4 points ago

sounds like more fun anyway

[–]Dez_Moines 3 points4 points ago

My friend got a ticket for being on his iPad while in traffic that was at a dead stop, so I'm pretty sure a laptop would also get you a ticket (here in Florida anyways).

[–]mog_knight 3 points4 points ago

Yeah, the language of the law might encompass more electronics but you just hear it as texting and driving. Also, I think dead stops are a bit of a gray area.

[–]ReactsWithWords 3 points4 points ago

You say that as if Florida has traffic laws.

[–]a2themosdef 0 points1 point ago

Now I don't know the specifics of Florida law, but I know that in Illinois it states that you have to be in "actual physical control" of a motor vehicle. There are some debates on what "actual physical control" is. In some jurisdictions it can be as simple as having the keys in your possession (because you could conceivably put them in the ignition and drive the car). They typically only use this for DUI when someone has obviously been driving and decides to pull over for a snooze, thinking they'll outsmart the cops, they put their keys in their pocket ("No officer, I couldn't have possibly driven myself to the shoulder of the interstate. My keys aren't even in the ignition."). I probably wouldn't have given your friend a ticket for using electronics at a stop though.

[–]DigitalisAkujin 2 points3 points ago

Actually in Pennsylvania the law includes laptops.

The law prohibits as a primary offense any driver from using an Interactive Wireless Communication Device (IWCD) to send, read or write a text-based communication while his or her vehicle is in motion.
Defines an IWCD as a wireless phone, personal digital assistant, smart phone, portable or mobile computer or similar devices that can be used for texting, instant messaging, emailing or browsing the Internet.
Defines a text-based communication as a text message, instant message, email or other written communication composed or received on an IWCD.

Of course since the law actually says "in motion" this means the law isn't in effect when the vehicle is at a red light or is otherwise not moving.

Source: http://www.dot.state.pa.us/Internet/pdnews.nsf/antiTextingLaw?readForm

[–]Golgatem 1 point2 points ago

Thanks for that. I sometimes text at stop lights (in PA) and I've never been sure whether I'm breaking the law!

[–]DigitalisAkujin 0 points1 point ago

Be careful. Cops are known to not care about specifics. It's also questionable whether or not a judge would make that interpretation if it ever went to court.

I wouldn't blatantly text if where was a cop behind me or next to me at a red light.

[–]mog_knight -2 points-1 points ago

If I read that right, the only real exception is your GPS or iPod music changing. Assuming you aren't using a mobile hotspot you can do anything on a laptop as long as it isn't sending or receiving (and subsequently reading) communications. I'm more of someone who if you're going to ban using electronic devices you should ban almost everything unless it is part of the car (e.g. radio in car bluetooth etc.)

[–]Gorrn 0 points1 point ago

In the UK I think it'd be classed as driving without due care and attention.

[–]DOWNkarma 0 points1 point ago

That's the ridiculous thing here in my province, there was already a dangerous driving offence in place. They've now added a distracted driving law to cover the same thing but does not add demerits to ones license. Essentially a law written to generate revenue, not reduce inappropriate driving behavior. For other instances where dangerous driving shouldn't be applied there is a stunting offense with a smaller consequence.

[–]xfcanadian 0 points1 point ago

I remember seeing a study (can't remember where) that people who are having conversations on cell phones are worse because their brains are thinking differently while trying to communicate, versus just fiddling with something in the car.

[–]Golgatem 2 points3 points ago

The study I saw compared phone conversations with conversations with passengers. Talking with a passenger was safer, probably because the conversion naturally ebbs and flows depending on whether you're doing easy driving or something difficult.

[–]KaitKindly 0 points1 point ago

My ex got pulled over for eating and driving. My friend, on the other hand, drives through lawns almost daily while distracted by her phone (amongst far worse things to do while driving) and has never been pulled over. I hate it.

[–]endocytosis 0 points1 point ago

Was catching a ride with a friend in Naples, and the car ahead of us kept driving erratically. We pulled to pass it, and I glanced over and saw the driver playing solitaire on his smartphone with both hands while driving. Was too stunned to even speak.

[–]nfury8ing 1 point2 points ago

You're still a faggot no matter which you're doing. How about just driving wherever the fuck you're going and worrying about that other shit when you get there?

[–]ApologiesForThisPost 0 points1 point ago

drinking and driving too.

I assume you mean why not make drinking non-alcoholic drinks while driving illegal.

[–]mog_knight -2 points-1 points ago

You assume correctly. Though I do like going through DUI checkpoints stone cold sober and telling them I had 6 drinks (between soda and water etc.) and the look of confusion on their face.

[–]WhirlingDervishes -4 points-3 points ago

Yeah but the hive-mind chose texting and driving...

[–]shorty6049 0 points1 point ago

OP chose it.

[–]George_Burdell 0 points1 point ago

Why did you jerk off to pics of your mom?

[–]NottaGrammerNasi 0 points1 point ago

No kidding! I don't have time to txt msg when I'm eating a Qdoba burrito, making a phone call, checking my GPS, or tuning in my Pandora.

[–]Citisol 55 points56 points ago

It's not illegal where I live.

[–]las2385 6 points7 points ago

Not illegal in Missouri ;)

[–]TheSmartestMan 3 points4 points ago

If you're over 18 in Springfield.

[–]TheDEW 1 point2 points ago

But they take a finger for every year under 18.

[–]usfunca 4 points5 points ago

Not illegal in Florida.

[–]inthedrink 0 points1 point ago

South Carolina checking in

though I have no idea why we're able to

[–]webby_mc_webberson 125 points126 points ago

I lean on the horn and swerve in towards them, scaring the ever loving shit out of them.

not really but I fantasise about it so hard.

[–]Huxxxtable 45 points46 points ago

I was driving one day in rush hour traffic, and there was a yupie driving his Porsche with the top down sending a text message. I didn't think much of it until I realized that he was typing his thesis - a good minute + of no hands on the steering wheel.

Anyways, I got tired of watching him weave so I got my truck slightly behind and in the left lane of him and laid on the horn. He freaked out so hard that he ended up tossing his phone into the air and it landed in the back seat. Dirtiest look I've gotten in a looong time, but fuck em.

[–]hydrogenous 22 points23 points ago

Somewhat unrelated, but I am an armored truck driver and I also sit in traffic for my commute to base (and sit in traffic while I am on duty). Luxury car drivers are the most inattentive, aggressive, and overall poor drivers on the road. No turn signals, NEVER letting someone merge, tailgating, driving too fast, weaving in and out of cars. I drive tens of thousands of miles per year and this is a pattern everywhere. If you have an expensive car you are most likely a poor driver. I understand there are exceptions.

When I see a luxury car now, I expect them to do something dangerous, and avoid them before they can come close. I do like fucking with them with my air horn, though.

[–]Ewokmywewok 4 points5 points ago

You can buy those on the internet and put them on your own car.

Those = Air horns

[–]hydrogenous 2 points3 points ago

Yep. Generally the electric ones aren't that loud unless you have one of those 100+watt loudspeakers and an amplifier to power it. Real air horns work off compressed air stored in tanks used for air brakes. You can add a compressor and a horn to your own car, but those are a bit pricier than electric ones. I'm thinking of installing one on my Jeep Rubicon because the compressor can also fill my tires up after I air down from driving on the beach or on mud.

[–]Themantogoto 0 points1 point ago

Audis and BMWs lol Jags and most mercs are usually ok though. Source, Traveling contractor, Drive thousands of miles a month.

[–]MyClydeFrog -1 points0 points ago

Son of a bitch I've been fantasizing of the day I'd finally find you!

[–]FerretThief 0 points1 point ago

It was a great story, but you had me at "but fuck him."

[–]itsokimaplumber -1 points0 points ago

Every time I see someone talking/texting when I'm out on my Harley I downshift & get the pipes good and loud and keep the car'a headlights right in my mirror. When they speed up, I speed up. If they slow down, I slow down. I get relentless about it until I see them hang up. It's one of my joys

[–]FancyKetchupIsnt 1 point2 points ago

I dunno why you're getting downvotes, shit is hilarious AND effective.

[–]Canadian_Infidel 17 points18 points ago

Thus the law causes as many accidents as it prevents.

[–]RedHeadRob 2 points3 points ago

It wouldn't if people could bother to realize the law is there for everyone to follow to make us all safe. And they'd stop trying to read and drive at the same time.

[–]jaybee2 10 points11 points ago

Yeah, we really need a GIF that says, "Quit risking everyone's life, asshole!"

Seriously, not looking at the road while you're driving? I don't get it.

People who do it get away with it, until they won't.

[–]Sryzon -4 points-3 points ago

To be fair, you don't have to look at your phone to text. Then again, there's plenty of people dumb enough to keep their eyes off the road for more than 2 seconds whether it be to type a message or put on makeup.

[–]LoveOfProfit 1 point2 points ago

Honestly, 2 seconds is all it takes for something to run out on the road and for it to be too late for you to react.

[–]Sryzon -1 points0 points ago

As long as the road is in your peripheral vision(which it should be at all times), that shouldn't be a problem. Otherwise, you could use the same argument against checking your mirrors and blind spots every so often.

[–]DOWNkarma 1 point2 points ago

Thank you! I wonder how many people creating these laws or enforcing them on Reddit understand what an attentive driver should be doing. An operator staring at the road 60ft ahead and has two hands on the steering wheel has as much control as the next person texting in their lap.

Watch the road 1 minute ahead, 45 sec ahead, 30, 15, 10 and 5 seconds ahead; including the ditch or side roads. Watch you mirrors just the same, nothing should ever sneak up on you (ie. motorcycle or fast moving vehicle). Know your blind spots and double check when switching lanes. Check your speed too, rpm and other gauges... It should be a quick routine that allows the driver to know what's coming, going and anything out of the ordinary. Once the environment around the vehicle is safe, go ahead and change radio station or check your phone. I don't believe driving is difficult, people just need to be aware. I'm a class 1 driver putting 100,000+ km/yr if it matters..

[–]LexAurum 32 points33 points ago

Do my eyes deceive me? The mouth and words sync up?! Good find OP!

[–]mygpuisapickaxe 12 points13 points ago

Sourced from Liar Liar I believe.

[–]varemia 0 points1 point ago

Yup. I've even seen a version made for TV where he still clearly mouths 'asshole', but the voice comes out wrong with the word 'loser'. It's a little funny.

[–]BewilderedAlbatross[S] 5 points6 points ago

Why thank you

[–]linkismyhero 8 points9 points ago

Not illegal in Texas, just fucking stupid to do.

[–]mavs41 4 points5 points ago

It should be illegal here because its a rampant problem. A bill outlawing it actually went to Rick Perry but he vetoed it because merica and freedom.

[–]linkismyhero 4 points5 points ago

I kinda understand his reasoning though. I keep my phone in the cupholder in my car when I use the GPS on it. Cops could easily pull me over and accuse me of texting while driving because I was looking down at my phone. There's no real way to enforce that law effectively.

[–]ramonycajones 0 points1 point ago

To be fair... being distracted by the map on your phone is no different than being distracted by texting. So that would seem to be the law working correctly.

[–]linkismyhero -1 points0 points ago

Okay, so I'll make sure never to change anything on my radio, and never to use a GPS or map system of any kind

Come on, everything is a distraction in the car. Outlaw everything other than keeping both hands on the wheel at all times if you're going to go down that road.

[–]FMCSIMMONS 17 points18 points ago

gif needs to be compressed further, I can still recognize him.

[–]matt01ss 19 points20 points ago

[–]ExplainsYourJoke 10 points11 points ago

I thought you were going to post a blurry, unrecognizable mess of a gif, but i was pleasantly surprised. Thank you, stranger.

[–]cberra88 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, that'll do piggy, that'll do.

[–]TaquitoTerrorist 6 points7 points ago

One time my sister was texting while driving me to work. I grabbed her phone and threatened to throw it out the window, but I didn't. I told her that if she wanted to kill herself, fine. But leave me out of it.

[–]TheD888 4 points5 points ago

i saw a cop texting and driving the other day, went to take picture with my shit ipod, she saw me, put her phone down and sped up to loose us

[–]donandino 3 points4 points ago

And that's not to mention the fact that they also have a fucking laptop right in front of them while they drive.

[–]TheD888 0 points1 point ago

notice how i also said "she" and "her"

[–]Theattractivenerd 4 points5 points ago

I wanted to up vote this but then I remembered I do it all the time. So then I just did, because I like Jim Carey.

[–]NottaGrammerNasi 0 points1 point ago

Upvotes for honesty. :D I'd double-upvote you if I could since it goes against the hive-mind and you still said it.

[–]southernfox2011 2 points3 points ago

this is how i feel when i see a cop texting and driving...

[–]KermittehFrog 2 points3 points ago

I personally like just driving and listening to music. Why do people have to text constantly? I drive sometimes just to get some damn piece and quiet.

[–]RangodhSingh 0 points1 point ago

I don't even have texting on my phone and never have. That being said I mostly listen to books while I drive.

[–]rxshea 0 points1 point ago

grandma?

jk, me too

[–]RidePlanet 8 points9 points ago

As a cyclist, I agree whole heartedly.

There are 2 rules to cycling:

  1. No one can see you
  2. Those that can, are aiming for you

So toss in texting/switching songs/looking up directions while driving all scare the crap out of me.

[–]pgamh 2 points3 points ago

Also, I generally suggest avoiding confronting drivers regarding any illegal or dangerous behaviour. I've found that even if done politely, your #2 becomes even more of a reality. Most drivers take for granted the fact that they are constantly driving around giant pedestrian/cyclist death machines, and this understanding can be further clouded if they're challenged or called out for inappropriate behaviour.

[–]fraincis 1 point2 points ago

I think you should invest in some head/tail lights.

[–]Sryzon 3 points4 points ago

Today I saw a cyclist in all black riding in the oncoming lane of a 50 mph road with no streetlights or reflectors on his bike. Nearly ran the guy over cause I didn't see him until he was 10 feet away.

[–]fraincis 0 points1 point ago

Well, maybe that guy had a death wish. No respectable cyclist would dare ride a. against oncoming traffic and/or b. ride at night without safety lights. I remember in 4th grade we went to a field trip to see Space Jam and then eat at Cici's Pizza. (I know pretty awesome right? Back when it was still a $2.99 buffet) But here's what I took from that trip, we had to walk to the theater which was only about a mile away and I found it dangerous that we were walking against traffic. And then just before I shouted to the teacher asking to switch sides (because a 4th grader clearly knows better than his teachers) it all just clicked in my head. From then on.. ride with, walk against. Also, if any of you are looking for quality affordable safety lights I recommend these. Super bright and easy installation.

[–]pgamh 2 points3 points ago

always a great idea. even with all safety precautions taken into account, those are two rules cyclists should always assume for their own safety.

[–]762headache 0 points1 point ago

As a safe responsible driver: stay the fuck in the bike lane, not on the line. So dangerous as you wiggle side to side. If there is no bike Lane own the entire Lane.

It seems some cyclists WANT to be hit, and cause danger by forcing concerned drivers to bleed into oncoming traffic / other Lane or have to unsafely reduce speed.

preemptive addition: bikes deserve to be on road as well but must follow the rules, not bend them. Also I speak with the infinitive "you", I'm obviously not calling YOU out.

[–]JPBarnesbuckle -4 points-3 points ago

I get the idea behind cycling ("green", exercise, cheapness, etc) but bikes don't belong on the road. Most of them don't obey traffic laws, and even when they do, there are still plenty of danger involved. Cars have to swerve out of the way and into oncoming traffic to avoid hitting them. Also, my car weighs 2,000 pounds and the cyclist weighs themselves plus a few pounds for the bike. If either party makes any type of mistake, the cyclist is going to end up seriously injured. Lastly, you honestly can't see them a lot of times. For example, I almost killed some poor bastard at a traffic circle. Cars have to slow down for traffic circles, but because of the size and nature of bikes, that is not required as much. So when you pull up to a circle in a car, you look and you yield to traffic. If you don't see anyone, you pull out. I pulled out into the circle right as this cyclist comes flying in at roughly a million miles an hour while cutting in and out of traffic. Just so we're clear: Looked and no one was there. Looked back up right before some skinny 100lb dude in tights ended up on the hood of my car. Luckily, I was able to slam on the brakes and stop before I killed this guy. Long story short, cycling is dangerous for the cyclist, and has the potential to be dangerous for everybody. Please stay off the road.

[–]porus07 3 points4 points ago

If you honestly can not see a cyclist on the road you honestly have no business driving.

[–]shorty6049 3 points4 points ago

You're probably going to get some backlash for that comment in the form of "it's illegal to ride my bike on a sidewalk!" (which it is in most places from what I know) , but the real issue is that bikes really SHOULDN'T be on the road, but the laws and infrastructure don't allow for them to be anywhere else. Personally I pretty much always ride my bike on sidewalks because if a cop ever did try to stop me, my "I didn't want to get hit by a car" excuse should work ok, or at the very least, i'd get a ticket, but not get hit by any cars.

I don't know how you'd do this, but there really needs to be a better solution for cyclists in large cities other than having them on the street with everyone else. It's , as you said, dangerous for everyone.

[–]RangodhSingh 1 point2 points ago

There does need to be some other area for bikes, and honestly buses, to go. I don't know what the solution is either but bikes move too slowly to be in regular traffic and too quickly to be on the side walk. If it were either I'd prefer them to be on the side walk.

[–]shorty6049 0 points1 point ago

Yeah. This seems to be a good solution, but people in the US probably wouldn't go for it... cars are too convenient

[–]RidePlanet 1 point2 points ago

It is completely unsafe to ride on the sidewalk. It is illegal for a reason. The speed differentials are far too high, and there isn't any room for error. Crossing paths, driveways, and doors becomes and exercise in luck. I know you may feel safer, and you expose yourself to less personal injury, you also expose others to more injury.

And better than simply improving infrastructure (though that is very important) is better education. Everyone needs to understand that cyclists are there, in many forms, and have every right to be there. Basic driving instruction should include some form of enlightenment about cycling. As should gym class. Knowledge is far more powerful than a 8 inch wide strip of concrete.

[–]RidePlanet 1 point2 points ago

First of all, you're a misinformed idiot.

Second of all, like has been said by others in response, there isn't another space for us. Where would you like me to go ride? The paths with small childern, dogs, and the elderly? The sidewalks with cars pulling out of driveways, and children, dogs and the elderly?

Dedicated bike infrastructure is an important step. It gives us a place to ride, but even that isn't enough.

No, the most important factor is educating people like yourselves on how to function around cyclists. It's not hard. Slow down, we're going to cost you a few seconds at the most, and your car can easily regain the speed you lost. Keep your eyes open, and if you can't, then you should have your license revoked. Give us space. Unlike your sweeping generalization claims, most of us do ride within the law. And if you could look past your own nose for a second, a large number of drivers don't obey the rules of the road either.

In cities where bikes are more common (Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Portland, Vancouver), drivers are more conscientious, aware, and safer. Attitudes like yours really do drag down the argument though.

And no, roundabouts and traffic circles are not great for bikes. It's a flaw. But in intersections, and on straight roads, if you have trouble seeing us, you really need to put some glasses on.

[–]BandoMemphis 5 points6 points ago

Its not the law here in Tennessee yet. NAH NAH NAH NAH BOO BOO.

[–]divermax 3 points4 points ago

Texting and driving is only illegal in Missouri if you are under the age of 21. That's not to say that it shouldn't be illegal, but that isn't the case everywhere.

[–]wadad17 0 points1 point ago

Ohio.

[–]vaelroth 1 point2 points ago

Gee, that's the first thing you think? The only thought racing through my head is along the lines of, "You dumb fuck, you're endangering the lives of everyone around you and you're too fucking stupid to even realize it."

On a related note, someone cut me off yesterday while they were talking on their phone and driving a big fat SUV. I laid on the horn for a solid 10 seconds and then proceeded to follow them to their destination (which was out of my way). I laid on my horn while I waited for them to get out of the car. I wanted to do so much more, but I like not having a criminal record.

[–]ewynn9 10 points11 points ago

Thats how people like you get shot.

[–]vaelroth -1 points0 points ago

They could have killed me, long before we got to their destination.

[–]Illison 1 point2 points ago

Quit being way to overly dramatic. You didnt get them to change their habits, from the sound of it you just made them think you were rather insane considering how you describe this scenario.

[–]shorty6049 3 points4 points ago

you may seriously want to talk to someone about your road rage. That's not a reasonable reaction to being cut off. I know you won't , and you probably think I'm just a douche for saying it, but seriously, don't do shit like that, man...

[–]Fabreeze63 3 points4 points ago

I agree with ewynn9. I understand that you were angry at them, but for real, I would never ever follow someone to their destination and then keep honking like that. There are too many crazies out there for that, and you never know who's got a gun in their car or what disposition they might have. This can be extremely dangerous. I would suggest not doing it again.

[–]762headache 0 points1 point ago

Agreed. The long honk is great; rustles their jimmies to the core. Following someone to a destination of their choosing? Nay.

[–]shorty6049 -1 points0 points ago

you may seriously want to talk to someone about your road rage. That's not a reasonable reaction to being cut off. I know you won't , and you probably think I'm just a douche for saying it, but seriously, don't do shit like that, man...

[–]slagdwarf 3 points4 points ago

I live in LA. Whenever I glance over into incoming traffic in the opposite lane, 1 out of probably every 5 drivers is actually looking DOWN at their phone. 90% of the time when I'm cut off, or someone stays stopped at a green light, or someone veers into my lane, I zip around them and look only to find the same scene of someone texting on their iPhone.

I almost miss simple drunk drivers. At least they only came out on weekends at late hours!!

[–]PersonX2 0 points1 point ago

Considering your state has drive-through daiquiri shops, I'm sure the drunk drivers are around and texting too.

[–]slagdwarf -3 points-2 points ago

Downvoted by a texting driver, no doubt

[–]flimboid 0 points1 point ago

I live in Dubai and its still legal to use a phone whilst driving it bastard grates on me like a motherfucker.

[–]Blazeron 9 points10 points ago

I live in Florida and its still legal to text and drive.

[–]pig_is_pigs 1 point2 points ago

From the videos I've seen on Internet, people driving while on cell phones would be rather tame vehicular conduct in Dubai.

[–]the_tch 0 points1 point ago

[–]Aquagrunt 1 point2 points ago

What movie is that from?

[–]Freddie-the-troll 2 points3 points ago

Liar liar

[–]brain_candy 0 points1 point ago

Watch it. Then watch it again. Once you've done this, repeat four more times for good measure. You will only laugh more each subsequent time.

[–]MzzKitSal 0 points1 point ago

...It's not illegal where I live unless you are in a school zone...

Whenever I try to down vote Jim Carrey I get the same convulsions as him when he tries to write "red".

[–]Hotshot55 0 points1 point ago

Not against the law in Missouri.

[–]strobexp 0 points1 point ago

I don't think it's illegal everywhere

[–]lakk 0 points1 point ago

I feel like everyone is looking at me and judging when I try to change songs at a red light on my phone.

[–]Ap0crypha7 0 points1 point ago

Wouldn't it be cool if you had insta-ticket report to court police god powers for people who talk on cellphones hands without hands free or text while driving? That shit is dangerous. Seriously...

[–]brownchilihole 2 points3 points ago

no that wouldn't be cool

[–]762headache 0 points1 point ago

I do not want to live in a world where such powers exist.

Further, you should become a cop, because they have three closest version of that which you describe.

[–]vabunuc 0 points1 point ago

It's almost like the .gif has sound. I can almost hear him.

[–]freddit1 1 point2 points ago

I wish it was against the law everywhere here.. only in school zones.

[–]Acid_Baron 1 point2 points ago

Taxis in Korea even have a TV tuner on their GPS unit. They literally watch TV while they drive you around, and talk on their phone at the same time.

[–]CHACHI_BONGS 0 points1 point ago

OBEY

[–]donandino 0 points1 point ago

In most places its not illegal to text and drive. Not yet at least.

[–]HIFW_GIFs_React_ 0 points1 point ago

[–]smilles 1 point2 points ago

It's not illegal in many states.

[–]jesse_h -2 points-1 points ago

Keep your eyes on the road, not on other drivers, OP!!!

[–]Kyman111 1 point2 points ago

Jim carry should be the next voice of dead pool

[–]limopimp -1 points0 points ago

I never text but reddit....

[–]natbug23233 0 points1 point ago

I like to drive right next to them and honk repeatedly till they stop. I make lots of friends that wy

[–]shorty6049 1 point2 points ago

Serious question; How many of us occasionally text and drive? I'll admit that I do it. I still make sure my main focus is the road (i.e. I don't type full sentences while ignoring my surroundings, more quick glances at the phone and back to the road)

I know it's fucking stupid but I do it anyway. I'm going to try from now on to stop doing it though. for real this time...

[–]Red_AtNight 1 point2 points ago

Red lights, and long straight stretches of road. Ideal times to squeeze in a text. I'm not ashamed to admit it.

[–]bfd1994 1 point2 points ago

Movie please???

[–]ziggybiggnutts -2 points-1 points ago

Breaking the law? Sounds like you need to move to a free state.

[–]andrewsj1 0 points1 point ago

everyone's doing it.

[–]zefie 0 points1 point ago

I felt this way when a cop turned on his lights just because he didn't feel like waiting to pull out of his parking spot like the rest of us have to. (happened today)

[–]eviloverlord88 0 points1 point ago

ALL THE TIME

[–]bomojago -1 points0 points ago

suck a dick I do what I want

[–]SOwED 0 points1 point ago

So you're upset cause it's against the law, but not cause it's dangerous...

[–]Phlexonance 0 points1 point ago

Who cares about the law? Problem is that they're endangering you.

[–]Rumer 0 points1 point ago

Why is it that, when I'm wanting to pass someone going slow, they speed up so that I can't, and then they slow down once I give up? I hate this.

[–]DrNewton 0 points1 point ago

There have been studies done showing that texting increases the odds of having a near-crash event by over 100:1. Based on this evidence, it is a federal crime for truckers to use cell phones or text while driving.

It is only a matter of time before similar laws get passed for personal use, and I wouldn't put a technology-based ban past them either.

In any case, if you do text while driving--fuck you. You're as bad as a drunk driver.

[–]roodninja -1 points0 points ago

Keep your eyes on the road and stop looking at other drivers, it's very dangerous.

[–]MemaLove 0 points1 point ago

Hahahaha, YES!

[–]wetkarl 0 points1 point ago

upvote for justice

[–]PUNKSLC 0 points1 point ago

It's not the breaking the law part you should be worried about, it's them being a real danger to everyone on the road. They are literally putting everyone on the road at risk of dying.

[–]ianhewtt 0 points1 point ago

Can somebody tell me what movie this is from? Thanks

[–]toobadmynamewastaken 0 points1 point ago

I can barely walk and text. I don't know how people drive and text.

[–]wustl07 0 points1 point ago

Keep your laws off my body.

[–]shanna0486 0 points1 point ago

Worse part is when a police officer does it

[–]The_Bratheist 0 points1 point ago

In CA at least, it's not illegal, just an infraction. :)

[–]Mrsatchesfriend 0 points1 point ago

Who filmed this? A potato?

[–]hoyfkd 0 points1 point ago

That's exactly how I feel when I see people Jaywalking, Downloading movies, speeding, and not reporting their excise taxes.

[–]ZiggyBoggy 0 points1 point ago

In Missouri it's legal to text and drive if you're 21 years of age or older. Of course I don't condone this behavior, I think it's ridiculous they put an age on it.

[–]MLP-FTW 0 points1 point ago

What not to do at a stoplight...Spongebob.

[–]Insurance_User 0 points1 point ago

I just go in front of them and get off the gas... start coasting. You'd be surprised how many people rear end you while texting.

[–]veils1de 0 points1 point ago

It's not about safety

It's about sending a message

[–]Jkfwlr 0 points1 point ago

...it's pretty hard to downvote Jim Carey.

[–]UnknownArchive 0 points1 point ago

  • Find a dumb slut teenage cunt texting
  • Make sure she's driving a big expensive car that daddy bought her
  • Get in front of her
  • Slam on breaks
  • Collect paycheck.

Bonus:

  • Possibility that she could die

[–]ImaBlackBelt 0 points1 point ago

I'd like to talk on the phone like a normal person, its much safer, but unfortunately some cop will see me and give me a ticket so I'm forced to text.

[–]numa_numa 0 points1 point ago

i feel like this every freaking time im driving in beverly hills/hollywood. apparently, they have their own laws there and never get caught or something like that.

[–]Crazykuku 0 points1 point ago

To bad they can't see you because they're texting and driving...

[–]dead_head561 0 points1 point ago

I tried to upvote multiple times.. It didnt work..

[–]godofwar7018 0 points1 point ago

When i see somebody texting and driving, I take a picture of them with my phone. (I'm not driving of course) Then once they have their heads up, I'd stare at them(natually people stare back because maybe 6th sense?) and i'd hold up my phone with the picture.

[–]floppypick 0 points1 point ago

Man, Reddit is really, really serious about this whole texting and driving thing...

I've pretty much stopped because I got a new phone and have to look down to type. Before I didn't have to look, and could still steer with my hands.

Sorry Hivemind.

[–]Gn4r 0 points1 point ago

Too many people givin fucks about this "issue"

[–]jrabbitmusic 0 points1 point ago

What about when you see a repost lolz

[–]nfury8ing 0 points1 point ago

I'm not dying for your faggotry. And you can be goddamned assured that if I wreck because of your texting, I WILL end you when I get out of the car.

[–]TodTheTyrant 0 points1 point ago

i love that people somehow think because it's a law, texting and driving is somehow different than it was before.

[–]Bligggz -1 points0 points ago

I'm perfectly capable of sending a quick text message without crashing my fucking car. Fuck off.

[–]danbot -4 points-3 points ago

Wow you sound like you are from Jersey bro. Say hi to the Situation for me.

[–]Bligggz 1 point2 points ago

So you're trying to tell me that you can tell how people sound by reading what they type? Whoah. Now fuck off.

[–]rebzo91 1 point2 points ago

It's not abour the law it's about not killing people. And fuck laws!

[–]parkercx12 -3 points-2 points ago

Am I the only one focused on the phone in the GIF?

[–]gweedo550 -3 points-2 points ago

"YOLO" this was the last message he sent me before he died in a fiery car wreck. Dont text and drive

[–]IndieNinja 1 point2 points ago

Kill two birds with one stone. I like it.

[–]gweedo550 0 points1 point ago

Natural selection

[–]KonradCurze -2 points-1 points ago

I really don't care what the law is, since the gov't is incapable of enforcing such a draconian law over so many people. I do care that the light turns green and they just sit there because they're more focused on their phone than on going. And that is why I honk at stop-lights about three times a day. Just to tell someone to fucking go.

[–]Villainsoft -4 points-3 points ago

I feel the same about gifs that breach copyright.

[–]ScotchMcBagpipe -2 points-1 points ago

Do you say that to them as your speeding?

[–]largebrandon -2 points-1 points ago

Funny, I think the same thing when I see someone say they pirate music/movies/software.

[–]reaper527 -3 points-2 points ago

Never thought i would have to downvote this gif. Op needs to stop being a whiny bitch. If you don't like texting while driving, don't do it.

I'd rather see someone texting while driving with their phone in a visible spot where they can see the road and the phone than have someone hiding their phone by their knees as is common place with the recent wave of counter productive laws
