I owned a goat as a pet before....once you have an animal that can eat everything and produce more poop than food it consumes it doesn't get much harder. Also it must have thought it was a mountain goat cause it climbed everything. it was an amazing animal though despite destroying everything.

My dad has PTSD from his time in the army... not from battle, but from "Goat Lab", where you had to wound a goat and keep it alive to pass the training. Anytime he sees a goat, he goes on a lengthy, expletive-riddled tirade about how disgusting goats are, and how much they must WANT to die. I don't understand that last bit, but his eyes go all murder-y so I don't ask.

Probably illegal to own one without a permit of some sort. Personally I think it's stupid to be keeping it outside its own natural habitat or at least a zoo.

Now before the downvote brigade descends, allow me to say it would not be a double standard to omit discussion of pet dogs and cats. We all know dogs and cats have a history of domestication over many, many generations. Especially if this particular breed of otter is endangered, we should be placing animals like this one at preserves for possible revival of the species.

Exactly. Notice how most animals other than your usual dogs, pets, parrots (then again...), et al., tend to be a major pain in the ass to care for. We've domesticated cats and dogs so they can be cared for easily inside or outside the home with enough time spent training them. It's almost never the case we hear about incidents like vicious dog attacks without knowing the cause, whether it be the breed of the dog or owner upbringing. We have whole institutions like animal daycare centers and obedience schools and hundreds of different brands of foods for them.

But we have very little of any of the above for animals like otters.

That's probably a bad idea. A better idea would be to go somewhere where otters live and see them in the wild. I was staying on Orcas Island and had a pup that would hang out near our cabin.
