Too bad the work never got to her as it was censored and burned by the Qing dynasty.

I think this is Japanese... I'm not sure, I'm not fluent, but I definitely see some hiragana characters in there and I'm pretty sure neither Chinese language uses them.

[–]Krypt0night 2 points3 points ago

Some Japanese characters were influenced by Chinese. It's Chinese.

[–]floralmuse -1 points0 points ago

yeah, the whole language came from Chinese, and they share some kanji but I'm almost positive Japanese is the only language with hiragana. Are you an expert or just guessing?

[–]Krypt0night 0 points1 point ago

Took a year of Japanese in college. So yeah, just guessing basically

[–]gtlloyd 1 point2 points ago

The secret (if there is such a thing) to distinguishing Chinese and Japanese is to look for hiragana that are commonly used for particles, linking and suffixes. Hiragana are typically simple characters, from this set: Hiragana on Wikipedia.

Japanese and Chinese share similarities in (what the Japanese call) Kanji - complex conceptual symbols. Chinese use these exclusively.

Although I can't read every word, I spent a year living in China and I don't see a single character that looks out of place, which I do feel that any strictly Japanese characters would for me.

Furthermore, you have tried to sound knowledgeable by noting that there are 2 Chinese languages, you do know they are written identically right?

The pedant in me wonders whether the 1870's immigrants would have written in this form of Chinese script, but I'm not sure
