And yet Kleiner is probably still alive somehow.

[–]ZeekySantos 15 points16 points ago

Kleiner was probably 45/50 in Half Life, I can imagine him being 65/70 in HL2, but not much older than that.

EDIT: that said, there's no way this is Freeman. He was 27 in HL1, so he'd be 47 in this image. I don't know any 47 year olds who look that fucking haggard.

Freeman didn't age between HL1 and HL2, g-man kept him in like a time capsule until he needed him again

[–]rednukleus 6 points7 points ago

We're assuming that the headline suggests this art is attempting to represent Freeman as if he did not go into stasis during that time.

[–]openfacesurgery 14 points15 points ago

Are we? I assumed it was a joke at how long the next installment to the Half-Life saga is taking. At the end of episode 2 Gordon is not put into stasis by the G-man, as he was during the lengthy gap between the first and second Half-Life games.

I thought it was a Doctor Who reference.

[–]TownIdiot25 9 points10 points ago

It is both. There is an episode of Doctor Who titled "The Girl Who Waited". The joke here is that this is how old Gordon will look when HL3 comes out.

[–]zeHobocop 8 points9 points ago

But then Alyx needs to decide which Gordon she wants to be with.

[–]JERRJEROD 2 points3 points ago

Don't make me relive those feels!

[–]zeHobocop 3 points4 points ago

Gordon built Dog as a replacement Alyx.

[–]rednukleus 1 point2 points ago

I think we (excluding you) were, but your idea makes more sense.

Well, in theory, Freeman could still have the mind and body of a 27 year old considering his time in stasis. Gman has demonstrated he has the ability to freeze time, enter a moment, leave and resume time, so it's likely he did something similar to Gordon. What I mean is Freeman was likely not frozen and forced to wait 20 years, but probably removed from the timeline and reinserted on the City 17 train 20 years later. This could easilly have been done in mere moments from Gordon's perspective, so he'd still be 27.

Also, note how Eli told Gordon he "hasn't changed one iota". I rest my case.

We all already know this. What I'm saying is that this image is not "the freeman who waited" as it claims. If freeman wasn't in stasis, he wouldn't have aged that badly.

[–]clonetrooper250 0 points1 point ago

Ah. Well, I think it has less to do with the stasis, and more to do with the fact that Valve is taking SO FUCKING LONG to release Episode 3, at least that's what I thought it meant.

[–]sumrexnox 14 points15 points ago

Nice Dr Who reference, too

[–]PeteMalony 9 points10 points ago

Gordon Freeman refuses to die no matter how long it takes for Half-Life 3?

[–]ichuckle 7 points8 points ago

this is amazing

Half Life 3: Gordon's Retirement Plan

[–]Manhi40 4 points5 points ago

I am speechless...

[–]aprofondir 3 points4 points ago

I think this guy is supposed to be the hybrid of Freeman and Ivan The Space Biker, the precursor of Freeman in the HL beta.

[–]DaAvalon 1 point2 points ago

Source?

[–]a59a 0 points1 point ago

This would make an amazing plot for hl3, showing the time and struggles between then and now and at the end of hl3 he could pass away, knowing he did all he could and everyone was at peace

[–]BobRossNTV 1 point2 points ago

Was this work intended to be Freeman? Honestly to me, aside from the glasses and eyes, there's a distinct lack of any indication that would make this freeman. He's also far to old to be Freeman, as he was 27 when Black Mesa happened, and would be 47 without having been in stasis. The suit doesn't resemble much of anything in the latter part of the Half-Life series on top of all this.

[–]TheKinginYellow 4 points5 points ago

If you went through what he's been through you'd look that bad at 47 as well.

[–]BobRossNTV 4 points5 points ago

No, actually, he shouldn't look that old. Eli didn't age this harshly and he was like, 15 years older than Freeman at the time.

Also, after reviewing his portfolio here: http://users.skynet.be/fa995176/portfolio.htm I've concluded that this is definitely not freeman, and just some of the artwork he did that the OP interpreted to be Freeman. This answered my original question.

[–]EuthanizedCracker 2 points3 points ago

Yep, you're most likely right. Also in the corner it says "sad cosmo", implying this is just a generic cosmonaught/astronaught.

[–]TheKinginYellow 0 points1 point ago

It was just a joke dude, don't read so much into it. And have you seen Eli? He looks pretty rough.

[–]chubowu 0 points1 point ago

I have you tagged as a Reposter for some reason. Hmm

[–]EuthanizedCracker 2 points3 points ago

Because he is going around subreddits spamming reposts. He has the top post of /r/skyrim, among others.
