I have one and I can say they suck, you do feel it an you are super sensitive to acidic and sour things it retarded. I can't eat bananas, ketchup, pineapple, anything with vinegar, and mustard, etc..

I'd have to imagine with all the liquid you drink every day, and all the movement your tongue makes (talking, swallowing, ect) that it would be hard for food particles to stay lodged in the crevices for very long.

      It's not genetic. It's a vitamin deficiency (one of the B-vitamins, I believe). I've had it since I was about 3 or 4 (am 22 now). My mom took me to the doctor a long time ago, fearing for my life, of course, and the doc told her it's just a vitamin deficiency. It used to get white lines/splotches all over it when my diet was crappy, but now it's fine and the fissures really aren't as bad as they used to be. I'm the only person in my family with it, also. My ex from high school's mom had it too, but not my ex or her brother.

      I think lots of people have this, but can't put a name to it. Sometimes different textures make me sick. I recall there being a building with a porous surface, it had lots of gaping holes and long stretches of jagged crevasses in it. Just thinking about it make me nauseous.

      Most people do not like things like that, they are unsettling to almost everybody equally. I am not bothered at all by gore but am very bothered by things like the examples you gave me. Some people are the exact opposite. Most people, however, find a (un)happy medium.

      It isn't a phobia because it is not an irrational fear, nor is it an uncommon one. A fear of cashmere sweaters would be a phobia.

      In continuation, you can't really have a phobia of drowning. You can, however, have a phobia of being near large bodies of water.

      Largely semantics, but most people do not know the term for it because the term is incorrect.

      It's called Fissured Tongue. I've had it all my life and it's supposedly genetic.

      It's not painful and doesn't cause any issues although I also have (Geographic Tongue)[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geographic_tongue] which means my tongue looks bizarre and I'm sensitive to quite a few foods.

      I have one like this, although not as extreme. The fissures close up when my tongue is in my mouth. Food doesn't get stuck, but brushing your tongue is recommended to prevent bad breath.

      Some people believe that this is a sign that the body is low on B vitamins, but most of those people are crack pots (Gillian McKeith).
