There was no mother in sight it was just laying there. I looked before i picked it up.

You shouldn't have moved it. The best thing to do with baby animals with no parent in sight is to put some food out that the baby can get to, preferably under come cover like a bush. If it's still there a day or so later with still no sign of the parent, then you help it. Baby animals get left to fend for themselves a lot so they can learn.
