he's putting most of his weight on his hands, and the shoes are just dragging along for the ride (they're doing most of the slowing down). Also the gloves have hard plastic (think cutting board) pucks on them, not ceramic.

Hardness isn't related to being shatter resistant. Diamonds are very hard, but shatter easily if you hit them with a hammer. Toughness is the word you're looking for. Just adding clarification .)

It's probably not ceramic but Corian. You used to be able to get free samples from Home Depot pretty easily and make slide gloves out of them. It looks and feels very similar to ceramic so I can understand the confusion

Really? What companies make ceramic pucks? I didn't really look that hard, but I don't think S9, LY, Loaded, Lush, or any other major company uses ceramic? (I have Lush ones with spock shaped finger pucks)

It works ok but the two main reasons I switched off of corian are that corian tends to be pretty slick compared to the plastic ones and also tends to chip pretty easily too during sliding. I prefer the plastic ones overall to corian

The gloves are just that slick. I've got a pair I use for longboarding, and you can literally put your entire weight on them and they just glide right along (also, I think it's usually a dense plastic). That said, the shoes can just drag along behind. I'm sure they're torn, but they wouldn't stop you right away.

This and slides. You can establish a third contact point on the ground when going around corners or at the end of a hill when you want to slide sideways to a stop.

I don't think the glove inventors had this in mind in particular :) They are for protecting your hands when you fall . I have a pair of wrist guards that are quite similar for when I used to rollerblade.

Nah, they're for sliding not falling (though they do help in a fall). Lets you get your bodyweight off the board and allows you to get it sideways much easier.

Lol nice. But who cares anyway. You know how many stupid people are on the Internet? Most of them. You never hear a scientist, billionaire or generally intelligent person say " Hey did you see that post on reddit last night?". The dumbest thing any of these websites do is allow users to judge each other. It leads to one sided arguments and any differing opinion to disappear. Congrats on setting up an egalitarian site, woot. Besides everyone on the website is only after one thing karma, somehow the site developers found a way to assure no differing opinions without the psychological fear of losing these imaginary points. Literally it's a genius idea to make sure everyone either falls in line or disappears. This is why you have so many people run to the Internet to support their argument, which I might add is easy to do since even the craziest ideas can find support on the web, without really thinking for themselves. At my university it would have been the same people too frightened or ignorant to speak, debate or argue in class for the simple fact they wouldn't be able to without a computer.
