Source, please?

[–]combasemsthefox[S] 17 points18 points ago

http://www.kiriakakis.net/aday.html

I just now went searching for that so I'm sorry but there are 8 comics that I did not include. My bad. You can read the rest in the link.

[–]1RAOKADAY 0 points1 point ago

The link isn't working for me.. :( does it have a title? I would love to contribute some money to this.

[–]combasemsthefox[S] 1 point2 points ago

It's titled "A day at the park"? It's written by Kostas Kiriakakis. Just keep clicking it?

[–]Level_32_Mage 1 point2 points ago

I would also love if 1RAOKADAY would contribute money to this.

[–]combasemsthefox[S] 26 points27 points ago

http://www.kiriakakis.net/aday.html Here is the source + 8 comics I accidentally left out. It gets better and better the more you read so I recommend that you read them all.

[–]jyz002 3 points4 points ago

Thank you, I'll read them later

[–]scorpion347 0 points1 point ago

I too shall comment to save this link.

[–]hungry_hungry_hobo 1 point2 points ago

We broke the link!

[–]Ralt 0 points1 point ago

Commenting to save for when it's up.

[–]aflarge 0 points1 point ago

Much obliged, I was just about to ask what the source was :)

[–]Skirpit 0 points1 point ago

Broked, 10/10 will read.

[–]EN2McDrunkernyou 8 points9 points ago

Holy shit that was cool. Is this in print anywhere?

[–]CricketPinata 0 points1 point ago

It doesn't appear to be, but he's had stories in Vol. 7 and 8 of Flight.

[–]iamdehf 7 points8 points ago

Metaphor blew my mind spwooooosh

[–]ychromosome 1 point2 points ago

[–]Abedeus 0 points1 point ago

Well that's a quite unscientific and illogical position that assumes not to rule out possibilities despite them being completely unproven and even unprovable.

[–]0v0Nevermore 7 points8 points ago

I'm definitely keeping this comic for future reference and annotation.

[–]elfwithoutears 3 points4 points ago

The eye sounds like he's giving answers.

[–]Level_32_Mage 2 points3 points ago

He did say he didn't want to keep them.

[–]Ianc55 2 points3 points ago

This needs more upvotes

[–]The_Alex_ 3 points4 points ago

I wish I could have an intellectual conversation with a random stranger on a bench in the middle of a peaceful park. That kind of thing, where you have nothing else to do except speak with a complete stranger with some many different experiences you have never experienced yourself who just decided to rest on his way to wherever he was going, is real human interaction. Now that I think about it, the chance of such a thing happening in the real world just seems so low. What would most likely happen is, the stranger would sit and immediately whip out a smart phone, killing any chance of conversation.

Sorry for hijacking a little bit. I just thought of this as I was reading the comic and thought I would share.

[–]j3rmz 0 points1 point ago

upvote this! this is really awesome!

[–]bongmaniac 3 points4 points ago

this should be on the frontpage!

[–]sid2112 3 points4 points ago

I prefer answers. They are indicative of actually accomplishing something.

[–]combasemsthefox[S] 3 points4 points ago

I think you missed the point.

[–]sid2112 1 point2 points ago

I don't want your answers!!!! Just kidding, lay it on me man, I'm not much of a philosopher myself.

[–]Wazoople 0 points1 point ago

I'm not OP, but the point is to treasure questions, and not treasure answers. Once reality as we know it has proven that a given answer is false, we shouldn't continue sticking to it. That's not to say we shouldn't have answers, but rather to say that if anything should change, it certainly shouldn't be the questions.

It pertains to atheism in the way that most religions are a set of answers that are not to be changed. Those who hold to these answers even after they're proven false are essentially halted from progress. Does that make sense?

[–]sid2112 -1 points0 points ago

Well thats a nice way of looking at it but to be honest I treasure solutions to questions. As far as religion goes, those are questions? Religion is nothing but primitive man trying to explain a universe they don't have the math to understand. I think the answers are out there. I think that 2+2=4 and there's just no way around it. Note that's a very simple analogy but it puts across my drift, at least I hope! Thanks for a cool response, Up-voted.

[–]combasemsthefox[S] 4 points5 points ago

Religion is a collection of answers to questions. These questions will always remain relevant because that is the nature of these questions however the answers have changed and will continue to change as science refines its discoveries. The point is to not cling to answers but rather cling to questions.

[–]drnc 1 point2 points ago

How about this... There is value in answers, but there is more values in truths. Sometimes you can have the right answer, but not the right truth. For example, Newtonian physics provide the right answer for launching a manned spacecraft to the moon and coming back, but it isn't the truth. As far as we know now, Einstein has provided the truth, but without the right question we never would have come this far.

Edit: I should clarify. We aren't interested in truths. We are interested in the Truth. Singular, capital "T."

[–]kerdon 2 points3 points ago

So, this may be a repost, and I may have DV'd it at first, but you know what, this little comic strip is so good that it deserves to be reposted. Enjoy your karma.

[–]keyboard_samurai -1 points0 points ago

See this is what /r/atheism should be about guys, take note. Instead of the circlejerk that it has become of "DURR HURR!! You believe in whatever deity you believe in, you're so stupid!!! Here's some quotes taken out out of context to make you look stupid!" Sorry for the mini-rant, here's my reaction to the comic.

[–]bureX 18 points19 points ago

Dude... Did you just rant about /r/atheism and then posted a meme?

[–]Zomonada 1 point2 points ago

I've honestly never seen anything like that on this subreddit. They've said Christianity can be detrimental to human progress and Fundamentalists were stupid, but everyone here can agree there are smart Christians.

[–]studmuffffffin 1 point2 points ago

I dare you to find one upvoted comment that has anything along those lines. Just one.

[–]zanotam -1 points0 points ago

He rehosted only part of the comic on imgur to whore for karma. Soooo deep.

[–]naroays 1 point2 points ago

Maybe it's just me, but I don't understand what this comic is driving at.

[–]calyphus 3 points4 points ago

Religion is a collection of unchangeable answers that stop questions from finding the best answers.

[–]naroays 1 point2 points ago

Makes more sense now, thanks!

[–]ychromosome 2 points3 points ago

To be honest, so is atheism. That is why smart people are thinking about Possibilianism.

[–]combasemsthefox[S] 0 points1 point ago

I think many atheists already follow that train of thought

[–]makeshiftreaper 1 point2 points ago

The entire time all I could see is that this metaphor was so thinly veiled that I don't even know why they bothered in the first place.

[–]wehted 0 points1 point ago

what is the comparison?

[–]omglaurent -1 points0 points ago

Wow, beautiful

[–]davidempoleon10 0 points1 point ago

Repost.

[–]DeafLEGO 0 points1 point ago

This is beyond awesome. Thanks!

[–]despitefulminate 0 points1 point ago

I feel like there should be more to this. It ends kind of abruptly. I get the message and I think it's quite good, but it leaves me with this shell of an idea that is still struggling to develop. Maybe the creator was going for something like that given the subject matter, but I still feel like there should be more. Another pannel or something. Either way, it is quite good. Upvoted.

[–]combasemsthefox[S] 0 points1 point ago

did you check out the link? it continues on

[–]despitefulminate 1 point2 points ago

Well I read the ten panels that were uploaded. Was there more? Maybe I missed it.

Best thing i saw in weeks!

[–]Crysalim 0 points1 point ago

This is interesting and all, but without answers there would be no questions.

[–]purplestgiraffe 1 point2 points ago

Really? You never come up with more questions when you lack answers?

[–]Crysalim -1 points0 points ago

It's more like I wouldn't come up with questions if I didn't want them answered.

[–]ExtraHeresy 0 points1 point ago

I'm probably not the only one here thinking that this is not a direct correlation to a religious argument. In reading through the rest of the piece at the source, you see the Eye-character says we should "act on faith" and such.

This honestly seems like a more "Deist" viewpoint than an Atheist one.

It was a thought provoker, though! I'll give you that!

[–]gonesnake 1 point2 points ago

This was very good. Great art, great message. And applies not just to atheism/religion. The continual questioning is a wonderful philosophical, scientific and social idea.

[–]combasemsthefox[S] 0 points1 point ago

Yes! I also took away from it that there is so much packed inside.

[–]kipjak3rd 1 point2 points ago

I know this doesnt sound like much, but I would like you to have my very first upvote. Please take care of it.

read it its worth it

[–]MrFanzyPanz 0 points1 point ago

While I understand the analogy, I don't think the premise represents the reality of the relationship between questions and answers.

To deny the value of answers over questions is to deny the fundamental purpose of a question: to find an answer. In essence, answers are truth - not universal truth, per se, but a shadow of a truth that has the potential to be absolute, though it is subject to the inconsistency of human perspective. We, as humans, seek truth. The struggle for the mind is to sort through the slurry of questions and find suitable answers from which to move and make decisions. Our very questions are based on other answers, and are born to seek more answers. To cherish a question is to suggest that not knowing something is a beautiful thing, whereas the reality is that the journey involved with learning is what holds the beauty of the question. However, it is merely a segment of the beauty found in refining and seeking a larger collection of answers. Questions can be moving and motivating, but they are merely a means to an end, and what beauty they have through their struggle is merely the shadow of the whole, compounding the beauty of the answer it seeks.

Answers are goals. They sometimes change, but their beauty is in their construction and their reliability. Even the answers you collect and think are yours are sometimes changing. They are as fragile as you are, and the stronger your answers grow, the stronger you grow. To know something, to gain control over it, to become intimate with the machinations of the universe is the essence of achievement, and we humans fulfill our potential with every sought and answered question.

And the best part is, to seek answers is invariably to seek questions. To have an impressive collection, you must utilize impressive questions to explore. And by collecting answers, you incidentally collect unresolved questions, whose answers are still to find, and whose eventual beauty are indicated by the character of that question. To collect answers is to yearn to grow, to learn, to overcome, whereas to collect questions is to yearn to ponder only.

I believe it is the optimal perspective of any human being, regardless of their beliefs, to collect good answers. To be a seeker of truth.

Nice art work, shame it's an obnoxious atheist comic.

[–]combasemsthefox[S] 0 points1 point ago

It's not actually an obnoxious atheist comic >.>
