I am a babysitter and you would be amazed on how much kids fall from just standing still on the same spot. They simply fall. It's rather hilarious.

[–]The_Dok 452 points453 points ago

"Well, it's been about 5 minutes of standing. Knees, you ready to give out?"

"Yeah, just about done."

"Alright, sounds good. Brace systems for impact."

[–]AdmiralSkippy 287 points288 points ago

Only they don't brace. They fall down hard then cry.

[–]The_Dok 567 points568 points ago

"CAPTAIN. OUR SHEILDS ARE DOWN!"

"DAMMIT! PUT ALL AVAILABLE FUEL INTO SHIELDS!"

"THERE'S NONE LEFT CAPTAIN. WE SPENT IT ALL ON EATING THAT CRAYON."

"God help us all..."

[–]bvanman 142 points143 points ago

"I'M GIVIN' ER ALL SHE'S GOT, CAPTAIN!"

[–]calicojones 60 points61 points ago

"Damn it Jim. I'm a doctor, not a nanny."

[–]iama_XXL 64 points65 points ago

"ALL SHE'S GOT ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH! WHAT ELSE YA GOT?"

[–]bvanman 94 points95 points ago

At this point, the analogy crashes, because on Star Trek Scotty (or one of the other 6 main characters) would pull something out of his ass, while toddlers always, always fall down.

[–]rocketman0739 108 points109 points ago

Well, the toddler might also pull something out of his arse. It just would not be very helpful.

[–]Randamba 19 points20 points ago

Yeah, if the toddler pulled something out of it's bum it would be a real shitty way to deal with a fall.

[–]Ark6476 7 points8 points ago

LIKE A BALLOON FILLING UP WITH TOO MUCH AIR!

[–]nuttyrussian 2 points3 points ago

I'm done reconfoobling the energy motron! Or whatever!

[–]Dildo_Ball_Baggins 22 points23 points ago

"I CAN'T DO IT CAPTAIN! I DON'T. HAVE. THE POWER!"

[–]UnnecessaryPhilology 103 points104 points ago

Crayon, first attested use in 1640, from the French crayon meaning pencil. From the earlier French craie "chalk" as many pencils were chalk pencils in that era. Craie stems from Latin creta, "chalk" or "pipe-clay." We do not know where creta comes from. While scholarship held that creta meant "Cretan earth," we now believe that etymology to be false.

[–]The_Dok 29 points30 points ago

Oh. Thanks.

[–]paraiahpapaya 56 points57 points ago

Excuse me, but philology is always necessary. Gentlemen teacup clink

[–]faggotmoose 17 points18 points ago

Gentlemen never clink teacups! Gentlemen may raise teacups. But a gentleman would never, ever...clink...a teacup!

[–]1badls2goat 4 points5 points ago

All hail faggotmoose: gentlest, most manliest of the gentlemen.

[–]IrreverentRelevance 9 points10 points ago

Did you know the word Philology comes from the Old French word 'philologie', which means "love of learning," in the later 14th century? The French word is itself derived from the Greek 'philologia' (philo-"loving" + logos-"word/speech") which means "love of discussion, learning, and literature."

[–]macgyverrda 6 points7 points ago

"Intensify forward firepower!"

[–]drummer_86 2 points3 points ago

[–]Lecard 17 points18 points ago

Then after quickly assessing the situation (and making sure they really didn't hurt themselves) you run up to them laughing while asking if they are alright.

Most of the time this seems to usually diffuse the situation enough and get them laughing too. Helps show them that getting hurt isn't the end of the world.

[–]Awesome_Bob 28 points29 points ago

I just start laughing at them immediately. Works at least 75% of the time. The other times they're really hurt.

[–]IrrelevantLeprechaun 4 points5 points ago

Babies will usually cry even if they're not hurt. Depending on the way their parents raise them and react to their falls, some babies get right back up again and continue on playing, while others will sit there and cry for fifteen minutes despite not having actually been hurt.

[–]TheTVDB 8 points9 points ago

No, they look around to see if anyone is paying attention. That determines if they cry or not.

[–]willyolio 62 points63 points ago

feet: "i'm getting tired of this shit!"

butt: "don't look at me."

feet: "Heeeeey face, do you want to try something new and exciting?"

Face: "I sure do!"

[–]odintal 79 points80 points ago

My 8 month old son does this. He doesn't know how to walk yet but he's trying to learn by taking his first step with his face.

[–]mouseknuckle 14 points15 points ago

Just stick a boot on his head and hope for the best.

[–]anas509 33 points34 points ago

It's because kids have a center of gravity somewhere near their big heads. Solution: Make them wear lead shoes to lower their cg

[–]redditor3000 4 points5 points ago

I don't think a baby could lift it's feet if it were wearing lead shoes

[–]6DemonBag 4 points5 points ago

...and actually, props to the girl for following the kid and grabbing him so quickly. You can't be there for every single second of a toddlers life after all.

Well done.

[–]OriginalStomper 544 points545 points ago

Relatively large head to body ratio gives small kids a much higher center of mass.

[–]superbstevens 187 points188 points ago

I like that this is an answer to the question.

[–]McBurger 79 points80 points ago

I don't care what you like, Steve.

[–]superbstevens 49 points50 points ago

My name's not Steve, Mac Burg.

[–]omni_whore 12 points13 points ago

Steve...n?

[–]Scrawly 25 points26 points ago

No, no. "Stevens". He comes in the plural.

[–]A_Mouse_In_Da_House 0 points1 point ago

He's multi-orgasmic? Can I see?

[–]trevor 13 points14 points ago

He's doing Allah's work.

[–]another_single_dad 34 points35 points ago

I don't care what size you are, if you don't lean inward, you're going to fall off the outside of a twisting slide. This was clearly the child's first ride on such a slide and he had no clue about the physics involved. He knows now.

[–]ucffool 91 points92 points ago

I would argue that even after this incident, he still has no clue about the physics involved.

[–]easterlingman 34 points35 points ago

Still, the brain makes complex judgements about its movements through space, our understanding of which requires physics. So whether or not it knows, it still is making judgements about the physics involved, though it couldn't describe them in detail.

[–]decross20 7 points8 points ago

I love that you refer to the toddler as "it".

[–]SentrySapper 10 points11 points ago

No, he's referring to the brain as "it."

[–]gulpeg 9 points10 points ago

I stay grounded due to my huge kahoonas!!

[–]adriennek 270 points271 points ago

It's like he went for the handstand off of the slide and hit his face, but stayed up... Face stand. He did a face stand.

[–]pick_another_name 63 points64 points ago

It looks like he couldn't stand to face going down the rest of the slide.

[–]calicojones 23 points24 points ago

Gravity is a hell of a drug.

[–]xlaxplaya 23 points24 points ago

Not only that, but he stuck the landing.

9.5/10

[–]MalaTae 43 points44 points ago

QWOP: Playground edition.

[–]SeymourLevov 121 points122 points ago

While this looks terrible, kids that age are amazingly flexible. Once my two year old climbed over the side of the couch, fell and somehow landed on his damn throat, legs arching scarily behind his head. I had already prepared myself for a lifetime of raising a quadriplegic when he just about bounced back up and tried to climb up the couch again.

[–]darien_gap 43 points44 points ago

As the father of a tumbling two-year-old who likes to stress-test her cervical vertebrae several times per day, I'm glad to hear this. I feel like a full-time conflicted spotter, my mind constantly repeating "don't be a helicopter parent, don't be a OH SHIT NECK SNAP!!"

[–]Emaleeen1 25 points26 points ago

Today I googled cervical vertebrae, wondering if there was a spine in my cervix I didn't know about.

[–]Aithyne 6 points7 points ago

You probably know this now, but cervix means neck. :)

[–]pelrun 3 points4 points ago

Also, they don't weigh very much, and they're short so lever action doesn't multiply the forces by much. Makes them a heck of a lot more robust (thank god)

[–]Ocrasorm 118 points119 points ago

It is like the slide gave him the power to break-dance.

[–]faggotmoose 9 points10 points ago

Saw the pic, thought, "Fuck what up? He did a sweet break dance move...off of a fucking slide!"

[–]AWildSketchAppeared 1003 points1004 points ago

[–]lethargicwalrus 189 points190 points ago

It even accurately displays the severity of the faceplant...nice.

[–]Cheese_Fucker 141 points142 points ago

I like the fact that the kid held the pose until the mummy thing interrupted its artistic endevour.

[–]WolfgangSho 110 points111 points ago

mummy thing

Can't tell if alien or orphan.

[–]mc4 15 points16 points ago

That's terrifying.

[–]REDDITvTIDDER 4 points5 points ago

bane?

[–]Haigolo 20 points21 points ago

Are you my mummy?

[–]WolfgangSho 7 points8 points ago

Oh, so an orphan infected with alien nano-machines then.

This is literally the only solution.

[–]howitzer86 4 points5 points ago

Clearly its an alien.

[–]hugs_and_drugs 24 points25 points ago

I... enjoyed this more than the gif.

[–]jwcobra31 16 points17 points ago

Who is this guy? I like this guy.

[–]DwightKurtShruteIII 33 points34 points ago

Don't be sad, everything will be ok.

[–]evoim3 8 points9 points ago

A new guy named Tyrone is working in the footwear department of the retail store I'm working in. Seeing as he's new to the business, he will occassionally slip up and fail, leding me to say this to him.

He doesn't find it funny :(

[–]madams74 9 points10 points ago

What fuck up? He fucking nailed that landing.

[–]leveraction1970 17 points18 points ago

This is what I love about kids. If I were to do that kind of facestand now I'd be in a wheelchair for the rest of my life, hoping they got all the gravel out of my face.

[–]SquareTurtles 22 points23 points ago

Future Olympic gymnast

[–]youngfriezy 32 points33 points ago

Future break dance champion

[–]AndresDM 18 points19 points ago

The parenthesis is superfluous because of the order of operations.

just sayin...

[–]diggoran 4 points5 points ago

I don't think that's how that formula works...

[–]YouDidntFuckingRead 22 points23 points ago

Fuck, woke my wife up.

[–]ucffool 18 points19 points ago

That sir (assumed), is a well placed comma.

[–]BearSole 10 points11 points ago

Nose Grind +50

[–]mongster2 4 points5 points ago

I think that's technically a manual.

[–]doodiefoot_x99 9 points10 points ago

That was a perfect scorpion fall.

[–]xaelyn 9 points10 points ago

"He's... yes he's going for the handstand. Aaand... Ohhh that's going to be a big deduction, really big."

[–]schoocher 23 points24 points ago

"It's OK, mommy will catch me.... AHHHH! Mah brain!"

[–]400-Rabbits 10 points11 points ago

I fractured both my ulna and radius (dangerously proximal to the epiphyseal plate, for you anatomy nerds) by falling off a slide when I was 7. I wasn't as smooth as this kid though; I suddenly wondered what the underneath of the slide looked like, leaned over, fell of the top, and landed hand-first on the ground.

So this goofy little tyke has my deepest and sincerest sympathy, and my utmost admiration for waiting until the bottom of the slide to bomb out.

[–]ZenBerzerker 9 points10 points ago

I suddenly wondered what the underneath of the slide looked like, leaned over, fell of the top

that's hilarious!

I, as an adult, once grabbed the side of a hot frying pan between index and thumb so I could turn it around to get to the handle. Felt VERY stupid about it, immediately. Impulses, not always good for you.

[–]Deadrocks 1 point2 points ago

Child Learned New Move : Facestand.

[–]rosecoloredraybans 1 point2 points ago

B-boy in training

[–]iamjamesmorton 5 points6 points ago

A born and natural breakdancer, clearly!

[–]frenchy9205 2 points3 points ago

I think you broke it

[–]davkong 2 points3 points ago

Don't find this funny actually. He might easily break his neck there.

[–]PikachuWow 1 point2 points ago

Elbow freeze! Awwww yeeee /r/bboy would be proud of him.

[–]HaroldTheTaxMan 2 points3 points ago

This kid has a bright future as the worlds next extreme soil inspector.

[–]assgrape 1 point2 points ago

not sure if down syndrome..... or steelers fan

[–]Tilimorf 0 points1 point ago

He's got mad break dancing skills!

[–]wortime 2 points3 points ago

"big head mode"

[–]WalkingWalrus 0 points1 point ago

Sometimes when I go down slides I like to bust a move, like a face stand

[–]intensely_human 1 point2 points ago

... and then end up in a head stand ??

[–]stinkbug2010 1 point2 points ago

aaaaaaaaaaaaand... BREAKDANCE!

[–]DrLando 0 points1 point ago

Next time, he should read the instructions

[–]sevegekaelen 1 point2 points ago

Hes is gonna be/is one of those kids that hurts themselves all he time.

[–]CoyoteStark 0 points1 point ago

Allen please add more curve to the slide.

[–]moychamoy 0 points1 point ago

I cant even stand upside down for 2 sec

[–]Deathbybunnies 0 points1 point ago

I was really disappointed that I didn't get to see him topple over.

[–]gjhgjh 1 point2 points ago

I don't think a spine is meant to bend that way.

Epic handstand. Kids obviously meant to be a breakdancer.

[–]thatkidfromseatt1e 0 points1 point ago

Stuck the landing.

[–]mojojoeljoel 0 points1 point ago

That kid fucked up by falling into a handstand? He made going down a slide look way more awesome.

[–]Drmcclintock12 1 point2 points ago

U just got served, bitch.

[–]iPodLurker 0 points1 point ago

He wanted to bust a move after he got down to a safe distance.

[–]Hanselhoff27 1 point2 points ago

Because child.

[–]Dr_Medic345 0 points1 point ago

Shit William, get it together.

[–]joshguy1425 1 point2 points ago

I managed to do so at age 5. Broke my arm in the process. The slide didn't even have any curves.

[–]nbenzi 0 points1 point ago

That boy ain't right.

[–]NarutoRendan 0 points1 point ago

such a beta child

[–]ragobash 0 points1 point ago

He didn't fuck up. He meant to top it off with a handstand.

[–]mmutinoi 1 point2 points ago

My nephew has a bruise on his face from falling like that =(

[–]DjinnNJuice 0 points1 point ago

This kid took lessons on recoupin' from Mr.T

[–]Max_Beezly 1 point2 points ago

He just wanted to finish the slide with a break dance move. Is that soooooo wrong? Jeez you guys are such perfectionists.

[–]jack_spankin 0 points1 point ago

He didn't fuck it up. He dismounted with a handstand motherfuckers!!!!

[–]BBS- 1 point2 points ago

Fuck that up?

Are you kidding me?

I give him a 9.4/10. Great landing, slight bend in his dismount however.

[–]ElBrad 0 points1 point ago

That child will grow up to be king of the windowlickers!

[–]Vulturas 0 points1 point ago

You guys might call it a fail, but it's actually a sideways faceplant drop win.

[–]bob-leblaw 0 points1 point ago

He had a sweet headstand going until she wrecked it.

[–]Flomo420 0 points1 point ago

Wow I cant believe how hard I laughed at this.

Epic faceplant.

[–]SystemError69 0 points1 point ago

She's like jello

[–]chronolis 1 point2 points ago

All I could think was, "Come on everybody and bust a move"

[–]unknownart 0 points1 point ago

"This was fun. Now bored. Outta here, bitches."

[–]LeDinosaur 0 points1 point ago

He put his rubber shoe down at the middle. His shoe created friction and stopped his momentum coming down at a point where he was turning. So his weight carried him over the edge.

EDIT: spelling

[–]waffelCake 0 points1 point ago

[–]IHazMagics 0 points1 point ago

Nah kid, that's all you. That time I pushed you too hard on a swing and you flew off, all me. This time is all you.

[–]KingLiberal 0 points1 point ago

Ok, Susie is watching me, time to shine! Alright, this isn't so hard. Hell, 2 more feet and I'll look like a God damn space cadet and it'll be animal crackers and make-out sessions by the monkey ba.. oh shit!

[–]K_Mill 0 points1 point ago

Those were some groovy bell-bottoms.

[–]Good_WO_God 0 points1 point ago

Seems to me he leaned the wrong direction into the turn.

[–]toss_reply 0 points1 point ago

How do you fuck that up?

It is like asking, "Magnets, how do they work?"

[–]K_Mill 0 points1 point ago

Those were some groovy bell-bottoms, man.

[–]Davex83 0 points1 point ago

[–]ManicPixieFuckUp 1 point2 points ago

I don't think you guys understand. This kid is a motherfucking pioneer of going down slides. Everyone's always like "yes, that patch of ground. That is the patch of ground worn by all the kids who have gone before me. That crater is an invitation to follow the footsteps and assprints of generations." This kid? This kid is like "fuck that. I choose my own destination. And I am going to choose it with my face."

[–]hazie 0 points1 point ago

That's what happens when you have two moms, 'merica. Kids ain't learnin' ta go slide proply no more.

[–]skoaliosis 1 point2 points ago

[–]iamdukesilver 0 points1 point ago

He didn't just fuck that up, he fucked it up with style.

[–]btrites 0 points1 point ago

Bonus points for style!

[–]mano521 0 points1 point ago

he should probably just stick with hanging from the monkey bars, which i hear is slightly easier than the slide

[–]NYRfan30 1 point2 points ago

He will become a break dancing prodigy though.

[–]historynutjackson 0 points1 point ago

That kid's head is probably a quarter of his body weight. I'm not surprised.

[–]voteforjello 0 points1 point ago

That baby is a parkour master.
