          I actually tried this a couple of months ago with a friend, and the first set of grilled cheese was delicious, but the toaster was smoking a bit. Since my friend insisted that this was just "crumbs burning off", we went for a second set. The toaster burst into flames, so my friend's first reaction is to save the toast, then we throw the flaming toaster out the window, into our neighbours property. Eventually we put out the fire, then went back to make some more grilled cheese in the oven.

          TL;DR tried this, set toaster on fire, no regrets

          has anyone ever actually tried this and got it to work? I tried it (thinking "oh gee, this sure looks super!") last year in my college house and the toaster literally went on fire. The flames roaring, I had to run with it out to the garden where I tried to douse the flames with grass while my housemates stood in shock. Eventually they got water and came to my aid, and when it cooled down, the grass had melted to the plastic and we had one melted toaster on our hands. with no grilled cheese. wtf internet.

          I tried this once. The bread crumbs from the bottom all moved onto the heated wire and set fire to the bread. I then had to a molten lump of plastic with metal sticking out off the counter.

          The counter then has a weird mark on it where the plastic had melted and the landlord got pissed off and made me buy a new one. The new one I bought was 1 inch shorter than the rest and people keep dropping shit on the fridge under the counter.

          TL;DR Just use a fucking grill.

          one time my wife offered to make me grilled cheese. she had it done in less than two minutes, it was way to fast. upon investigation i come to find that she toasted the bread first then microwaved that with the cheese on it. i was not happy
