What's going on in this thread?

[–]willardfillmore 17 points18 points ago

At first I just looked at the comments and wondered, "Why are all these people going batshit in here?"

And then I realized that all of them are the same person, and then I got scared. Just commenting on this post makes it feel like I'm putting myself in a room with 1637, and he or she is flailing about, spouting nonsense and foaming at the mouth.

(he's right behind you.)

Some redditor by the name of 1637 is spamming the comments with random stuff.

He's probably stoned or something.

I don't know but I downvoted everyone just to be safe.

Did you accidentally a word in the title?

[–]jackapello[S] 1 point2 points ago

no?

[–]c3llist9 0 points1 point ago

Popular opinion seems to be to the contrary.

[–]xVictor 4 points5 points ago

Not giving up a priority seat to someone in need because you are lazy is a douchy move.

DISCLAIMER: It's a humorous sticker. I'm not suggesting anybody makes old, disabled or pregnant peoples lives any harder.

I remember reading somewhere about Stanley Milgram, the dude who did the obedience shock experiments, having his students do an experiment about people to give up their seat on a bus. His students kept coming back not doing enough research so he tried to do it himself and barely got any research done. You don't have to do anything and people probably won't ask you for your seat. The only times I ever saw people give up seats was either voluntarily or somebody yelled to the whole bus to be chivalrous.

Guilty of pretending to be asleep so that I have seats to myself. Tbh I wouldn't do it if my backpack didn't weigh 60 lbs, have expensive stuff in it, and not fit in the overhead storage. Otherwise I need to spend a long trip with 60 lbs of weight on my lap.

[–]Tiktaky 4 points5 points ago

Overhead storage? lucky, We have laps. There isn't even room on the floor because the seats are solid.

I usualy have 3 bags with me, a backpack with a change of clothes, my toolkit with hammers, spanners etc and often a bag with materials/project stuff in it. I need to juggle it all, Usually on a train with standing room only. (there are only about 20-30 seats per carriage of 150 people on the new trains)

I remember a few times I was n the train and I had bags piled up all over me, and an elderly woman asked for my chair. I laughed because I thought she was joking and she called me ungrateful and started cussing me out. I was shocked, but realised that I had so many bags on my lap she didn't realise I was in a wheelchair. (had some problems with my muscle function that week)

[–]Darkstrategy 0 points1 point ago

Yea, I think I worded that badly. My backpack was too bulky, it wouldn't fit in any overhead. And I normally used Amtrack when sitting. If I was on the subways I just leave my backpack and other packages in-hand/on me.

But I'm a skinny kid lugging around ~100lbs of stuff for a 2 hour trip. I'll do it if I have to, but I prefer when I'm sitting to at least get the backpack off my lap and onto the seat next to me.

I'm just impressed they provide storage options for those with smaller bags, Out train service and bus services have nothing at all, they can even fine you for putting a bag on a seat if the bag looks dirty (So I can't put my 50kg bag on a seat. I actualy legally can't even take my tool kit on the train)

I agree that it's awful traveling with heavy bags, and people seem to think you are purposely bringing in heavy bulky things just to make them be uncomfortable on the train. You get a lot of dirty looks, it's a really rotten feeling.
