Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

[–]XsimonbelmontX 2 points3 points ago

Wow. I hope my obituary has a headline zinger like that. Who did this guy piss off at the Times?

[–]ChurchillDownz 0 points1 point ago

RIP Lester

[–]panda_handler 1 point2 points ago

Jesus, he was 63?!

[–]Drooperdoo 9 points10 points ago

When I was younger, I thought Beakman's assistant was hot. Puerto Rican actress Alanna Ubach: http://www.celebutopia.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/alanna_ubach.jpg

[–]Yiyun 1 point2 points ago

Alanna was the BOMB in Waiting.

[–]fatalerrrpr 2 points3 points ago

She's was also awesome as Roxy on Always Sunny.

[–]TXGhandi 8 points9 points ago

Got my 5 year old to watch Beakman’s World a month or two ago and she loved it! We started with the pilot and watched maybe 10 episodes over a few weeks.

Also checked the website lately ? http://www.beakmansworldtv.com/ Looks like it hasn't changed at all in over 12 years other than the copyright date.

[–]tamaleguy 6 points7 points ago

I respect Beakman just fine but that show gave me the heebie jeebies when I was little.

[–]pixelrage 8 points9 points ago

Thought I was alone - I liked this show way more than Bill Nye. It had so much personality to it.

[–]TheCitizenSnips 4 points5 points ago

You can watch this show on Netflix now.

[–]tjmjnj 7 points8 points ago

[–]OmnipotentEntity 8 points9 points ago

[–]FSMCA 0 points1 point ago

Wow, never realized how much of a dick he really was.

[–]tito13kfm 3 points4 points ago

What about Mr. Wizard? He taught my parents when they were children and myself to love science.

[–]papercoyote 3 points4 points ago

I loved Beakman! I even got a signed photo from his first assistant, Josie (Alanna Ubach). I thought she was so cool, I used to do up my hair like hers on the show. I should scan it in some time...I loved her.

Then as an adult I saw her in "Waiting". MIND BLOWN. (Audio NSFW)

[–]metalgamer84 0 points1 point ago

HOLY CRAP! I never connected the two.

...

...

HOLY CRAP! MIND BLOWN

[–]dirtymoney 3 points4 points ago

Fuck yeah beakman! He was a real showman! And THAT is how you grab kids. Making learning fun!

And josie was soooooooo hot.

[–]bergaber1121 3 points4 points ago

i loved this show as a kid. it was my ''bill nye''.

[–]chudez 3 points4 points ago

badabing-badaboom

[–]Skwerley 3 points4 points ago

MOTHA FUCKIN BEAKMANS WOOOORRRRLLLDDDDD.

Nobody ever believes me when I talk about this show.

[–]2dforts 3 points4 points ago

I can't even begin...I watched this lovely piece of work and made my own paper, a can that rolled back to itself, an upside-down glass of water making my grandma freak out.....

I even dressed up as him one year for Halloween...They still have sunday comic sections in the newspaper....

Haven't thought of this in years, thank you OP.

[–]caltrask55[S] 2 points3 points ago

You're welcome!

[–]raiderofawesome 1 point2 points ago

Also dressed as Beakman for Halloween, aged 8 I think. Funny thing is, our TV was missing the green color, so I thought his coat was white. Found out later it was green and my outfit was wrong!

[–]almost-irish 3 points4 points ago

I remember watching a science show as a kid, where I learnt that a vine, planted at one end of a maze, will navigate almost perfectly through it to the exit where light was coming through. The time lapse video of it was so mind blowing, it stuck with me for life.

I couldn't remember anything but his hair, you've just reminded me what show it was, 20 years later. Thank you.

[–]samalex1701 5 points6 points ago

Also Paul Zaloom, AKA Beakman, isn't really a science guy like Billy Nye is... he's mainly just a children's comic performer. Also though I don't see anything bad about this I'd bet in today's anti-gay world as so many areas have become he probably wouldn't be well accepted since he's openly gay and very liberal.

[–]BryanMcgee 8 points9 points ago

You're right. The world has gotten less tolerant of gay people since the early 90's. And the fact that Bill Nye has a video talking about how he can't comprehend people not believing in evolution in an "anti--evolutionary time" doesn't seem to deter his popularity.

Bill Nye took what he knew and simplified it so kids could understand and enjoy it. Beakman took known science and made it fucking fun. Before I gave 2 shits about how a battery worked I can tell you I was excited to see that fat ass-rat get electrocuted.

[–]CalculonisEgyptian 2 points3 points ago

HELL TO THE YES

[–]flazoo 2 points3 points ago

I loved Beekman! I sent letters in but never got on the show. :(

Also, the two penguins at the show opener are named Don and Herb in honor of Mr. Wizard.

[–]ivanmarsh 2 points3 points ago

I had a crush on Eliza.

[–]himissmercedes 2 points3 points ago

I fucking love this man! Beakman the shit when I was little.

[–]zsdbqp 2 points3 points ago

I was just old enough to watch this while it was on tv and recognize people and such, but too young to realize he and Bill Nye weren't one in the same. So going through elementary school I was always thinking, "Where the fuck did that rat go?" watching all the Bill Nye's they show in school.

[–]superbang 2 points3 points ago

if i remember correctly, the guy that played the rat graduated from harvard or yale or something... and i had a super huge crush on the girl... but i think they replaced her at one time.

[–]Ikimasen 1 point2 points ago

There have been three lab assistant girls.

[–]moikederp 2 points3 points ago

Oh hell, are you all too young to remember Don Herbert a.k.a. Mr. Fucking Wizard?

That man taught actual science without gimmicks. It was pure awesome.

[–]BryanMcgee 4 points5 points ago

That's why I take my kids to audit college physics classes. None of those fancy gimmicks to distract them.

[–]moikederp 3 points4 points ago

OK, ok, you got me. I chuckled at that one.

[–]AetherBlue 2 points3 points ago

Everyone loves Bill Nye and for good reason, but this guy's antics reached out to me first. Bill Nye seemed directed to kids a little older than me at first but this show was exactly what I needed to become curious about the world around me.

I don't think he had as much scientific content as Bill but it was funny and educational. I still remember the episodes where he dispelled the myth that jumping out of an airplane at the last second would save you (you know, because you only jumped at a height of 3 ft off the plane), and how assembly line style production was more efficient than having one person do the whole job start to finish.

Personally anyone that wants to entertain kids by teaching them about the world is good in my books. I don't think we'll ever be at a point where we can honestly say there's too many people trying to help kids learn.

[–]Ikimasen 2 points3 points ago

I watched this show because I'd been watching it for a year before Bill Nye came out.

[–]some_random_noob 2 points3 points ago

<3 beekman

[–]Mechanikore 1 point2 points ago

Did Beakman have at one point a level three security clearance in the US government?

Nah, I like all Science show hosts.

[–]ShaxAjax 1 point2 points ago

I had no recollection of this show, but my mom made me watch it on Netflix, explaining that I watched the shit out of this as a kid, and it was a surprisingly well made show for what it was.

[–]dorkacon69 0 points1 point ago

I only remember bits and peices. That rat scared the shit out of me as a kid.

[–]IPickOnYou 0 points1 point ago

Kramer?

[–]zmandella 0 points1 point ago

Looked this up last week. Note the length it's aired. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106367/

[–]S_Dub7 -1 points0 points ago

Good old Beakman. Ya that rat was super creepy and I remember one episode where for some experiment they needed a vial full of spit and the rat was happy to oblige. Never watched it again after that.

[–]wildcarde815 0 points1 point ago

My main issue with him is the crappy mail segment. 'did humans come from monkeys' ::rolls eyes and throws away letter::

[–]smilingasIsay 0 points1 point ago

I do not know who that is

[–]CosmaiOwl 1 point2 points ago

Beeeeaaaakkkkkmmaaaannnnn!

[–]robot-rollcall 0 points1 point ago

I liked Beakman way more than Bill Nye, but the show has not aged well. The entire series is up on Instant, if you ever want to see for yourself.

[–]foggywaffle 1 point2 points ago

This is Beakman's world and we are just living in it.

[–]Slimeaux05 1 point2 points ago

YES! Beakman's World was the best. I completely forgot about this guy too.

[–]outloudkat 1 point2 points ago

When I was a kid I wrote a letter to this show explaining how I thought their jingle should be changed from "Bada boom, bada bing, Beakman!" to "Bada boom, bada Beakman!" I got a signed postcard back.

[–]Faloopa 0 points1 point ago

The show is on Netflix now

[–]spermracewinner 0 points1 point ago

He is creepy.

[–]iceman12512 1 point2 points ago

no

[–]Flaydogg 0 points1 point ago

Omg i miss beakman so much! He got me interested in science waaay more than nye ever did.

[–]oscarsoze 0 points1 point ago

Not sure why, but I always felt a slight sense of claustrophobia watching that show.

[–]dnuts4u -1 points0 points ago

this might not be true, but i heard this show kept changing the girl because the rat dude kept molesting them.

[–]usclone 1 point2 points ago

I THINK you meant this guy: http://i.zdnet.com/blogs/mrwizard.jpg FTFY

[–]WarPhalange 0 points1 point ago

get any love = give me upvotes

[–]CheesyWeiner 1 point2 points ago

Beekman is the MegaBlocks of science shows.

[–]Flaydogg 0 points1 point ago

Username: its called smegma.

[–]gl77 -2 points-1 points ago

So I see it's time for the quarterly posting of Beakman with "can't this guy get any love" or some variation in the title.....

[–]Ponze -5 points-4 points ago

He was a complete tool compared to Bill Nye.

[–]Beerduck -3 points-2 points ago

Looks like Kramer on meth. Who is that?

[–]brandonbeeny -4 points-3 points ago

I'd give the link, but am far too lazy. YouTube: bill nye: creationism is not appropriate for children. his beliefs and stand point on evolution, and what society should be.

[–]BryanMcgee 3 points4 points ago

Where the fuck did that come from? OP mentions Bill Nye and even though the post is about a different show altogether you have to make this about evolution? Jesus son. At least save it for a relevant thread.
