[–]tastethelink 8 points9 points ago

But what about 7-7? That one has got to be the worst.

[–]popepeterjames 1 point2 points ago

Nah... 7-7 is the worst.

[–]Poisoneded 3 points4 points ago

Holy shit dude, you're a trooper!

[–]JunkmanJim 1 point2 points ago

I do 4am-4pm, have to get up at 2:30am because of the commute and get home 5-6pm due to traffic and shit that comes up at work.

[–]john_stamos_33 9 points10 points ago

samse-ies. but 2am-10am

[–]mattsatwork 3 points4 points ago

What market are you in? I made /r/tvgeeks for tv people but never did anything with it really if you want to check it out.

[–]john_stamos_33 0 points1 point ago

Subscribed. I'm in Missouri. What about you?

[–]kitty_o_shea 1 point2 points ago

Yep, similar, 4am starts. Except also 6pm-2am shifts. The changeovers are horrible. Getting home at 3am on Saturday knowing you have to get up at 3am on Monday.

[–]dig_dong 0 points1 point ago

I do those changeovers and don't get weekends/holidays off :( Retail is truly the worst of everything related to working.

[–]mattsatwork 1 point2 points ago

Holy crap that sucks. Right now I'm on weekends but for 3 years I was getting up around 1:30 AM to drive an hour to work, direct the 2 hour morning show and half hour noon then go drive an hour back home. Kind of miss it.

[–]tentokens 0 points1 point ago

Why so early?

[–]guspolly 2 points3 points ago

Someone's gotta punch those buttons when the 5AM news comes on.

[–]guspolly 0 points1 point ago

Let's directors all hang out in this thread. 4a-1p here AND we're down a man in the department so I'm also working Saturday 2p-11p. My weekend gets sliced almost perfectly in half, by hours.

[–]Terrible_Math_Guy 0 points1 point ago

thats cute, I see your 3:30 am - 12:30 pm and raise you 4:30 am wake up drive to work an hour away get home at 8pm while working in 100+ degree muggy rooms and sometimes within 50 feet of nuclear reactors... I have experienced temperature changes akin to leaving a hot tub and immediately jumping in a pool on a 10f degree day.

[–]yagmot 0 points1 point ago

You win. However, you chose to work that job...

[–]nicholieeee 0 points1 point ago

I was coming to post the same. How the hell do you think you get your morning news, people?!

[–]duranttrcy 0 points1 point ago

TV Director here also. 3:30 AM to 8 AM. Market 190.

[–]boscoist 55 points56 points ago

security guard, 12-8am. i win, can we end this now? or do i need to repost this for karma?

[–]carsvschildren 12 points13 points ago

Seems to be the in thing at the moment. Go for it.

Or your post could be the one that actually jumps the shark and you get down voted into oblivion...

[–]im_so_money 7 points8 points ago

Bread delivery guy here. I start at 12:30am and leave at 1pm.

[–]matari 6 points7 points ago

there's gotta be a pun in there somewhere...

No leaven before 1pm!

[–]Osiris32 1 point2 points ago

Sorry, that joke failed to rise.

[–]YoungSerious 1 point2 points ago

Now now, no knead for that.

[–]tastethelink 6 points7 points ago

Unemployed, my shift runs Fuckall to Shitballs. I'm not even sure what day it is without looking at my phone. But I'll be damned if online applications aren't totally tits. Tits in the good way, that is.

[–]Lesbiefriends 2 points3 points ago

How do you pay for that phone?

[–]SkyHawkMkIV 0 points1 point ago

Unemployed =/= $0.

[–]tastethelink 1 point2 points ago

Earned unemployment insurance and a little bit if money from a couple of my calves that got sold off back home. Which has been lucky, I've finally been able to pay off all if my rent and insurance so that I'm legal to drive and have shelter. But, where I'm at, the job market hasn't been too kind. Currently banking on a job with Apple due to having a couple if friends who had worked there for about a year and can get me an at home job.

[–]inthepalemoonlight 6 points7 points ago

[–]pintsize317 0 points1 point ago

Brewery worker, also 12-8am. Beer making never sleeps.

[–]kalpol 0 points1 point ago

I used to work 12am to 12pm. did it for a few years. It takes a lot out of you.

[–]SuminderJi 0 points1 point ago

Not even close to winning. I was 16 to 18 and my summer job was 6am-6pm with a hour commute. Had to wake up at 4am and I would make it home by 730pm.

4 days then 2 days off.

Then flip am to pm and vice versa.

[–]Jumala 0 points1 point ago

graveyard shift at a restaurant. 10pm-6am

[–]ngtstkr 0 points1 point ago

11:30pm - 8:am. Half hour break, non-stop labor all night. We just got pushed down from 10 hour shifts that started at 9:30pm until 8:00am (did that shift 5 nights/week for 6 years). Good try though.

[–]RedRing14 0 points1 point ago

Factory 7pm to 7am 4 days a week...

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points ago

The military called; said you're all cute.

[–]bhous3 -1 points0 points ago

I was ready to try and whip up a rebuttal for how terrible rotating shift work is, but I don't care enough to work up a response.

[–]andischreff 13 points14 points ago

Me: 4am: open coffee shop I work at. 11am: off work and on to classes. 4pm: go to second job. 10pm: get home and try to finish homework and study.

And yet I'm sure someone has it worse than me.

The point is there is no fucking point in competing with each other.

[–]Hornborg 7 points8 points ago

But people must know I'm actually winning in misery!

[–]tastethelink 4 points5 points ago

I'm a floating brain in a jar, not even a really nice jar, just an old mayo jar. Do I win?

[–]Hornborg 2 points3 points ago

Pfft, atleast you float. I'm right here touching the bottom, and there's breadcrumbs all over the place.

[–]tastethelink 0 points1 point ago

Oh shit, s'that you, Steve? I didn't know you reddit! Shoulda told me! Coulda made this jar-living a lot easier these last few years.

[–]pdxGary 5 points6 points ago

time to make the donuts...

[–]Jpr0x0rz 4 points5 points ago

I wish I could give you all the upvotes. Just because I was in exactly the same spot a few years ago (working to put myself through school, shitty bakery job at 3 am) classes from 12-6, dead at home. I know that feeling where you try to wake uo by taking a shower, and you just lean against the bathroom wall, thinking no one in the world is stupid enough to be awake right now. Guess what, to have that kind of dedication and drive means you'll be fine :)

[–]Horkersaurus 5 points6 points ago

Unemployed. I get up at whenever I feel like it o'clock.

[–]redditspice 4 points5 points ago

people that work in a bakery choose that lifestlye because they enjoy it...

you are living a dream, go fuck yourself you entitled fuck cunt

[–]hav1k68 10 points11 points ago

I raise you 12.5 hours a day as a prison guard. Also I commute a total of 3.5 hours a day. I work nights so i get up at 2pm, leave at 315, start my shift at 530, and leave the prison at 6am. I get home by 745 or 8. Now THAT is a long day.

[–]whatsadigg 1 point2 points ago

That barely even leaves six hours for sleep if you did literally nothing else. When do you eat? When do you go to the bathroom? When do you relax?

[–]hav1k68 0 points1 point ago

Well I sleep as soon as I get home til 2 or so. I try to eat a snack cake or something. I should also mention that I work an odd shift. No more than three days straight at a time. One week I work mon tue fri sat sun then the next week I work wed and thu. That's the only thing that makes the job bearable if not enjoyable. I love it.

[–]Realisx 4 points5 points ago

Are you at the bakery at four or do you have to wake up then? Just curious, I have been in similar situations. I worked two jobs over the last five years in collage and both have either, long commute times or early start times. So besides my rare day off I have woken up at 4-6am. Even if I try to sleep in, I still wake up at least by 7am, no matter how many hours of sleep I get.

TL;DR I have zero sympathy for all the whiny cunts on reddit.

[–]Locclo 5 points6 points ago

Depends on the bakery, I'd imagine, but where I work, the donut person starts work at 5 AM.

[–]cassiope 1 point2 points ago

[–]McNooberson 0 points1 point ago

I have to be at my donut shop at 3 am to start baking. Then I have Tuesday and Thursday classes an hour away. Not too bad once you get used to it

[–]CozmoNz 2 points3 points ago

Miner / Machine Operator. Up at 4.20am, back at camp by 6pm, have worked up to 43 days in a row before (Pipelining)

[–]Slyfox00 4 points5 points ago

Are we complaining about work hours?! Oh my gosh let me join in!

I worked between 84-100 hours a 7d/week in Iraq!

In the states I get to wake up at 530am 5 days a week, and only have to work weekends sometimes, yippy!

[–]judgemebymyusername 0 points1 point ago

who the fuck is downvoting you

[–]beckerist 1 point2 points ago

OMG YOU WAKE UP EARLY.

HOLY JESUS YOU MUST GET NO SLEEP.

Fixing stupid F-15s, 0030-0830. Which usually ends up being 0030-1000. Outside. In England.

[–]JoefromOhio 1 point2 points ago

I feel like the general consensus is that working a real job sucks much more than going to a 2 hour class, no matter what time that job occurs at and no matter what that class may be.

[–]Lukisod 1 point2 points ago

I see your 4am and raise you every soldier to have ever done an 0-dark-stupid QRF call and held the cordon for 12+hours.

[–]dwblind22 0 points1 point ago

I used to work morning shift, had to come in at 3:30 am fuck that shit.

[–]DattoMcHemi 0 points1 point ago

Remote construction, 0530 to 1730 + 1/2 hour each way, 6 days a week for 9 months now. I am the king of no life.

[–]raymond8505 0 points1 point ago

self employed. I got up when I felt like it (5pm). Worked til I wanted to, and now I'm going to lay on the couch and watch Doctor Who.

Later today my friend is coming over to drink beers and play xbox. I'll probably take a nap before then.

[–]spicy_chicken_wings 0 points1 point ago

Oh man, I'm going to be starting that soon. I don't care, I'm as excited as fuck.

[–]sophiemisfit 1 point2 points ago

..are you my dad? cause he works at a bakery at 4 am and seems like he would post this?

daddy?

[–]Byran125 0 points1 point ago

Overnight stock 10-6:30am

[–]CrabDubious 1 point2 points ago

Why does it even matter when you wake up? If you have to wake up early, then you go to sleep early.

The common denominator is waking up, and everyone hates waking up to various degrees. So stop all this one-upping 'Look when I wake up, Reddit!' bullshit.

[–]clunystationsweet 0 points1 point ago

[–]paranoidboy 0 points1 point ago

as a fellow baker I feel your pain bud. Up at 2:45am

[–]OddlyFamiliar 0 points1 point ago

I also work in a Bakery! I love it!

[–]Shugyosha 0 points1 point ago

How about instead of posting this useless crap, go to bed earlier?

[–]exgiexpcv 0 points1 point ago

Bah. Undergrad consisted of getting up at 0400 to shower and eat, work in cafe (full-time), then off to classes at 1230-1300, finishing classes (full load, triple degree programme: 1 science, two arts) at 1700-1800, home to eat, then back on my bicycle to ride 45 minutes to my night classes at the firefighting academy. Finished academy usually by 2200, ride back home for 45 minutes, hit the shower, sleep. Rinse, repeat.

[–]Gawdzillers 0 points1 point ago

You get paid to go to work. We pay to go to class.

[–]Glimmergaunt 0 points1 point ago

I suppose it should probably taken into account, that post secondary students could also be paying thousands of dollars a year, where say a baker would be making thousands of dollars a year.

[–]PirateEyez 0 points1 point ago

damn I miss that show...

[–]tykusstarcraft 0 points1 point ago

what ... i work all night school all day , wtf is sleep

[–]furryoso 0 points1 point ago

These are all our own damn faults and nobody cares.

[–]Deezul_AwT 1 point2 points ago

Wake up at 1:30 AM every day, fold newspapers, drive 100+ miles delivering them, finish around 6:00 AM. Get home, change for my other job from 7:00 AM - 3:30 AM. Get home at 4:00 PM. Spend two-three hours with my son, get to bed at 8:00 PM if I'm lucky. And every four weeks, my second job requires me to work weekends.

[–]TheSkiFreeYeti 1 point2 points ago

This is getting stupid. I'd explain the hours I've worked, but nobody would give a damn and that's life.

[–]Hellothereawesome 0 points1 point ago

... Can we stop raising each other stuff now? Damn once people start something they never stop!

[–]julio26pt2 0 points1 point ago

CPA (big 4 auditor) here.. During busy season, 8:30am-2:00am...collapse in hotel room... Repeat for 2 months.... And lunch and dinner is what's ordered and you'll eat it and be thankful for it.. But the rest of the year is pretty sweet....

[–]shinoda88 0 points1 point ago

i wouldnt even go to bed.

[–]Thecrumblingcookie 0 points1 point ago

I used to do that kind of shift at a call center. 4 AM to noon. Surprisingly not that bad since call volume was always so low it tended to be a bunch of us sitting around drinking coffee and bullshitting on the clock and taking maybe 1 call every 10-15 minutes.

[–]ThaMastaBlasta 0 points1 point ago

I used to like getting to the bakery early, putting on some music, rocking out and slingin dough. Good way to start the day.

[–]IFiNished 0 points1 point ago

Bitching about the hours of a job you entirely decided to take.

[–]sirslask 0 points1 point ago

I had a 10A.M. class today, it's a hard life

[–]The_Girl_Who_Waited 0 points1 point ago

As someone who is currently typing this at 5 am before going to work at a bakery, I'm sorry.

[–]magonz24 0 points1 point ago

Fuck I miss that show!

[–]DevlinSEN 0 points1 point ago

Production Assistant here. 5 PM - 6 AM with an hour+ commute on either side of that.

[–]ZombieBroad 0 points1 point ago

[–]Jellyhash 0 points1 point ago

Ahahahaha. I thought I wasn't that bad and I'm working 11pm-8am in a tim hortons. I'm serving your coffees, security guard. I am in the need to be there before, during and after your shift.

[–]greymud 0 points1 point ago

Project Manager doing global IT projects.

ER, graveyard shift. I got coughed on by a prostitute last night at work so you can all suck it.

[–]kpanzer 0 points1 point ago

[–]Denvermax432 1 point2 points ago

seafood wholesales. 2am-11:30am. 40 degree building all day, still manage to sweat and smell like fish and the inside of a gym locker

[–]off_me_now 0 points1 point ago

Although being at work at 4:30 sucks, I think its more about being up at 7/8 and doing something like school work, which you are being graded on.

[–]deeeznutzz 0 points1 point ago

working in a bakery....should have gone to college

[–]xLuMisx 0 points1 point ago

It. Loops. So. Perfectly.

[–]dome210 0 points1 point ago

I don't understand why working early in the morning is worse than at any other time. If you work a standard 8 hour shift you still have the same amount of time to do other activities and sleep a regular amount.

I don't see how it's any worse to work at 1am, 3am, 8am or any time really. Just adjust your schedule. And yes, I've worked a job that started at 3am before. It's the same as working at 9am except everything is shifted back 6 hours. Big fuckin' deal.

[–]gorg3ousg3org3 0 points1 point ago

i wish i could work for a bakery i work best in the morning and lose it after about 2 or 3

[–]Taylor1337 0 points1 point ago

On deplyment in the navy 6 am-730 pm 6 days a week.

[–]Argi_ 0 points1 point ago

My cousin has to be at work at 4am and he lives kinda far away so he gets up at 2:30!!!! 2 fucking 30!!! Noooo thank you.

[–]EveryVillainIsLimes 0 points1 point ago

The bakers at my work come in at midnight, sometimes earlier!

[–]0cochise0 1 point2 points ago

Time to make the donuts. :( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XyZtMfMWONI

[–]CatchThisDrift 0 points1 point ago

I start work at 3:45am. Sometimes, when we're expecting extra freight, I'll start earlier. I also go back to work from 5pm until ~7pm. Split shifts on a really messed up schedule? Sure, why not?

[–]I_am_not_novel 0 points1 point ago

I don't know how to post gifs from my phone, so just understand that in my head, the "I don't give a shit" gif is playing.

[–]Eurysthenes 0 points1 point ago

fuck all of you, i live in north korea

[–]canadianpanda 1 point2 points ago

Ahh a fellow baker, beat me to submitting something like this.

[–]Pisshands 1 point2 points ago

Video editor. My closest friend and former roommate is a merchandiser for a bread company. I used to wake him up at 2 am every morning and have breakfast, then head back to work.

[–]nhzkjd 1 point2 points ago

Non-lazy, Non-Complaining average person here. 5:30 Cross Country practice. Not even that big of a deal, I recognize that there are plenty of people that wake up even earlier. Especially in foreign poor countries. I know of people that have to wake up before 4 in order to walk 30 mins where they get picked up by a truck and ride in the truckbed for almost an hour and a half then walk to work and get paid $2 an hour or less just so they can support their little brothers and sisters.

That's an extreme example but seriously. I'm sorta tired of posts "Waking up at 7 :'( boo hoo". Stop being lazy. Go to sleep earlier.

ABOVE ALL ELSE: STFU no one really cares unless you wake up ealier than 6 or something.

[–]Old_Fence 0 points1 point ago

Military 5:30 am - 5:00 pm

[–]digitalsalmon -1 points0 points ago

The concept of "I see you X, and I raise you Y" is the most aggravating thing on Reddit to date.

In Poker, you SEE someone the value that the previous person put in, then you raise them further value. You did not SEE the 8am OP anything.

Utterly moronic title structure.

[–]Spiralyst 0 points1 point ago

That kind of schedule would make me seriously consider taking up a biphasic sleep pattern.

[–]jourtney 0 points1 point ago

when I worked at Starbucks I closed at 10pm, two hour long walk home, get into bed around 12am, wake up at 1am to shower and make it to work by 4am.

[–]Pur3kill3d 1 point2 points ago

18 y/o Burger King Employee, opening shift 3:30a.m. - 1:30p.m.

[–]TheDaggle 1 point2 points ago

They let you sleep in until 4?! When I was a Baker's apprentice I worked 12pm-8am. And the school bus left at 8:30. 3 miles away. Quit complaining, you lazy, shiftless twats.

[–]jeremiahfira 0 points1 point ago

EMT here. 4am to 5pm(or 9pm some days). Big whoop.

[–]oRyan_the_Hunter 0 points1 point ago

Watch out guys, we got a baker over here!

[–]Call_Me_Joris 0 points1 point ago

Poor you with a wellpaid job.

[–]w3029790 1 point2 points ago

I work 10PM-615AM shift at a long-term care facility. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, I have class at 11am. BLOW ME

This. Isn't. Funny.

[–]goofball_jones 1 point2 points ago

Own my own small business...I haven't slept since 1987.

Pills help. The occasional heart-attack happens, but I look upon that as a brief rest-period.

[–]DougWeaverArt 0 points1 point ago

UPS. 4:00 AM to 9:00 AM. Unloading thousands of pounds of the useless crap you bought on Amazon.

Then grad school during the day.

[–]laserplane 0 points1 point ago

seriously, besides being a child soldier or some shit, doing the morning shift for food service is one of the worst fucking jobs ever. I did 5 am start at a hotel, had to walk 2 miles there and back. Fucking terrible. Fat people complaining about their free waffles, managers watching movies and bitching we weren't interacting enough with the customers while unpacking deliveries... fuck that shit

[–]colmd111 1 point2 points ago

"raise you... bakery." Ah you clever man

[–]papasuckle55 0 points1 point ago

I know that feel, bro. Tomorrow I have to open at 5:15. i usually dont even go to bed those days.

[–]ngtstkr 1 point2 points ago

I start work at 11:30pm and end at 8:am, 5 nights/week.

You're all adorable.

[–]coraleaterlinda 0 points1 point ago

As someone who sometimes does overnights and is very hungry when I leave work at 6 am, I thank you.

[–]barnosaur 0 points1 point ago

I see your lame and unoriginal post and title, and raise you the fact that nobody gives a shit what time anybody ever wakes up in the morning

[–]gliff159 0 points1 point ago

I see your class at 8am and post-grad work at 7am and raise you 4 am working in a bakery

I see what you did there

[–]unidentified_human 0 points1 point ago

I feel your pain. I did 10 years in a bakery with starts ranging from 2:30-4:30. That was a rough decade.

[–]emlgsh 0 points1 point ago

To you who are responsible for the flaky and delicious baked goods that enable those of us working at 7AM to survive, I offer supplication.

[–]jlwtformer 0 points1 point ago

Oil rig. 5 pm to 5 am. 14 days straight. And did I mention that you live on the rig and have no internet?

[–]gravytown 0 points1 point ago

Who made that awful choice for you that you have to work at that hour?

[–]Fuckingupretorts 0 points1 point ago

fellow baker feeling the pain

[–]dackkorto1 0 points1 point ago

As someone who works at dunkin donuts I can confirm this as accurate.

[–]AbeFromanLuvsSausage 0 points1 point ago

As a fellow baker just getting off work at 12:30pm, I die a little inside every night at 8:30pm when I set my alarm for 2:45am. One more month of shitty hours... just one more month!!

SOHARDCORE.mp4

[–]MattBamm 0 points1 point ago

What bakery do you work at? :)

[–]djstangl 0 points1 point ago

I see your 4 a.m. bakery job and raise you unloading FedEx trucks at 3:30 a.m.

[–]ShinInuko 0 points1 point ago

former Active Duty soldier here. 12 consecutive months at "work." At the Motorpool (if not on convoys or missions) from 0500 to 2200 Every. Single. Day.

"Full schedule and a half" for college is weaksauce.

[–]nakedrampage 0 points1 point ago

I worked at an Einstein Bagels for 5 years as a manager/baker. I can attest to this atrocity. Nothing worse than closing the shop at 7pm only to be back at 3:30am the next day.

[–]masedizzle 0 points1 point ago

You work early, great. You want a fucking cookie? Make it at 4 am then.

[–]spookydoom 0 points1 point ago

I worked in the bakery department of a local grocery store. You're right, being there early sucks ass.

[–]Korrin 0 points1 point ago

This is why I'm happy to be going back to school. Reasonably early morning classes means no more ridiculously early morning work shifts.

[–]toppofthemorning 0 points1 point ago

I see your 4am working and call you with 4am start at Starbucks. Albeit I fuel my caffeine addiction but I also have to fuel yours as well. You are not always pleasant that early in the mornings.

[–]ParallelDementia 0 points1 point ago

I'm a baker myself man, I feel your pain.

[–]Cocaine8D 0 points1 point ago

3am at a craft store here.

[–]singingbeauty126 0 points1 point ago

You're funny. Try working the graveyard shift at a hospital and get back to me.

[–]judgemebymyusername 0 points1 point ago

All the 18-22 year old's serving in the military over in Afghanistan don't have the time or internet access to even contribute to this...because they are fucking serving in Afghanistan.

[–]jpesh1 0 points1 point ago

Another baker, 2am-10am.

[–]Saibottomus 0 points1 point ago

Hahaha software engineer here, I can start and finish whenever I want as long as I do 40 hours a week.

[–]dinnerplate-jack 0 points1 point ago

Really? Surgical resident here. 0530 until 1730...the next day.

And yes, I agree, it's stupid.

[–]godlameroso 0 points1 point ago

Hahahah mere bakery employee, try running one, and raising a family then sleep becomes a luxury at best.

[–]moosifat 0 points1 point ago

this I went to culinary school for two years and commuted to 5 am and 6 am classes for 6 quarters straight and work with a current schedule that is completely different... 4pm - 4am
