Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

logic fail

Only, of course, that the reasons behind homelessness are often more complex than a lack of money or foresight that finding a job would = money. And that the child's impulse was the honorable one, that a person in a position of power and influence should help those less fortunate. And that no 'liberal' thinks that people should get hand-outs completely for free. And that this bullshit story is completely made up.

And that no 'liberal' thinks that people should get hand-outs completely for free.

This has been approximately 100% inaccurate based on my experience with reddit. We need to oppress the rich minority for the benefit of the poor majority.

Really? That's certainly not my belief and I consider myself fairly liberal. It's possible I'm wrong. Can you give me an example of the ideas you've heard on Reddit you're talking about?

Reddit consistently believes that you should get free healthcare regardless of your life decisions, free tuition money for worthless degrees, free food, free housing, etc.

[–]fantafantastic -1 points0 points ago

Well, I think all of those things are rather different.

The idea of universal healthcare isn't exactly revolutionary - the NHS in the UK and European healthcare mean that all people are allowed to be treated when they're sick, no matter their life decisions, because everyone contributes to it. Just as much as someone might make terrible life decisions (e.g. be an addict) and need extensive care, someone else may have a freak accident happen to them (e.g. be paralyzed in an accident) and need similar levels of care. The basis for the belief that everyone should be able to access medical treatment is that overall it makes for a healthier society (since people will access preventative care more easily), whether or not they have the means to do so. I suppose it's just also the idea that when it comes to essential things, such as medical treatment, it is a common human duty to take care of the sick and not condemn them to illness because they may not have made the best choices. Not to mention that those choices rarely happen in a vacuum. Environmental and societal factors count a lot and those are not always in peoples' direct control.

Also, what is a 'worthless degree'? I think, as a whole, more people should be encouraged to pursue technical or vocational education beyond school, because a liberal arts degree is not right for everyone for example, but quite apart from the fact that art school (which some people consider worthless) produces great artists who are arguably just as important for a culture and society as much as engineers or doctors are, there is value in education, in having a population that can think analytically, who are intellectually mature and a university education can provide that whether you do a 'worthless' degree or not.

I personally don't think anyone should just have free food or housing as a matter of right. I think generally people should be required to work and contribute to society before they are helped by it. But I also think there are people who suffer from the various maladies of life - abuse, mental illness, disability, sickness, a lack of opportunity - who need a helping hand. I have no problem being an able-bodied, able-minded person who works full-time and whose tax money goes to make sure that a mentally ill person is not sleeping on the streets, that a single mother of 4 children who can't sustain her family on her income has access to food stamps, that a family of asylum seekers who need time to adjust and settle are able to benefit from social housing. I think but for the grace of God there go I, and if something were to go wrong in my life, if I were to be less fortunate, I would want to be a member of a society that takes care of its members. That doesn't absolve people of personal responsibility, and people should be encouraged and helped to find long-term, sustainable, independent solutions to their problems, but what kind of person am I if I let someone become bankrupt because they get cancer or they are in an accident or they have been 'weak' enough to fall into drug addiction? If it were me, or my child, what would I want others to do for me?

So it's a bit more complex in my mind than just - be lazy and have free stuff! And I suspect it is for most people on Reddit too.

Never said it was real, or that the political ideology was flawless. It was just interesting to me, so I posted it.

Fucking idiot.

[–]BugsyR 1 point2 points ago

Downvote to hell. I am SO FUCKING TIRED of this stupid shit popping up every fucking day for MONTHS. STFU!

[–]LordAnon5703 -2 points-1 points ago

This is a great argument. People thinks the homeless can't work, but he reality is that most are drug addicts and idiots. The large majority are perfectly capable of working. This is why liberal socialism is wrong. My teacher puts it like this. You spend a lot of time and energy raising a cow, then you are expected to hand a portion of milk to those who refuse to work. No, let HIM come, help raise the cow, then he can have some.
