As opposed to the many shitty, koala punting firefighters plaguing our countryside.

[–]LindEm[S] 0 points1 point ago

Added a comment below, not sure how to edit, but the title wasn't meant to insult/take a shot at firemen, they're awesome IMO, apologies again for the poor choice of words and misunderstanding... And to everyone that's seen this before, sorry I'm not sorry for multiple iterations of aww, was my first time seeing it :P

[–]DeafComedian -1 points0 points ago

I can only speak for myself, but the title is a bit off-putting considering a firefighter's job is to fight fires, not feed animals.

Fire is a natural process in and of itself, and we wouldn't be fighting any fires if they didn't threaten the livelyhood of humans.

"Yeah, you guys head into the burning building. No, it's okay-I'm watering the koala."

[–]Chazstic 1 point2 points ago

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Saturday_bushfires

Pretty much every building that the fire was near burnt down.

[–]Homer69 73 points74 points ago

I feel like anyone, if given the opportunity, would love to feed a koala. What the world needs is more firefighters.

[–]PuddinDont 22 points23 points ago

this, a thousand times.

Edit to say that every firefighter I know (and I know a lot of firefighters) are exactly this kind of person. The world doesn't have enough firefighters.

[–]Ballsyballs 46 points47 points ago

Firefighter here. I'd nurse the fuck out of this koala.

[–]too_many_penises 10 points11 points ago

Like with a bottle or straight up breast feeding?

[–]puterTDI 0 points1 point ago

pics or it didn't happen

[–]PuddinDont 1 point2 points ago

thank you for being awesome!

[–]CreamyGoodnss 11 points12 points ago

I'm a firefighter (volunteer) and just like any large group of people, it has its fair share of dirtbags. I know some who would kick this adorable koala and then laugh about it.

[–]ebaydan777 3 points4 points ago

thats...terrible. even a koala?...a koala!?

[–]CreamyGoodnss 8 points9 points ago

yeah, I know some pretty horrible people.

Don't get me wrong though, most of the folks I work/volunteer with are awesome, but there are bad apples in every bunch

[–]Garol 0 points1 point ago

Happy cakeday to you. That is all.

[–]CreamyGoodnss -1 points0 points ago

Thank you

[–]365degrees 0 points1 point ago

Well in fairness, koalas can be mean...

Seriously though. This photo was published during the bad fires down south a few years back (cant remember the name the media used for the fires). Those guys went through hell. Full respect to them.

[–]NeuxSaed 0 points1 point ago

I'd definitely kick one in self defense. They're not the most cuddly creatures.

[–]caylem00 0 points1 point ago

It wasn't during Black Saturday. This one was taken slightly earlier than that.

[–]CreamyGoodnss 0 points1 point ago

Definitely. Having fought a couple of teeny tiny brush fires myself, I can't imagine what something on this scale is like. Holy shit.

[–]OneTormentedFetus 0 points1 point ago

i would say that most firefighters i know are cool guys. But one.. he is a chronic liar, and i swear he is a pedophile

[–]Azartic -1 points0 points ago

I want to say his name is Casey/KC. .

[–]OneTormentedFetus -1 points0 points ago

Nope... i was hoping there was only one freak person like that in the world. It seems i was wrong

[–]Azartic -1 points0 points ago

Likewise. .

[–]TheIrishExit 3 points4 points ago

I'm a firefighter. I feel the same way. Any time I see a picture of a firefighter bringing a dog or cat out of a structure fire, or rescuing a deer that's fallen through ice or something, I think "who WOUDLN'T do that?"

[–]izatobi 0 points1 point ago

I've fed a baby koala, it held on to my shirt and fell asleep.

[–]LiZZygsu 34 points35 points ago

Firefighters are all heroes. This one just happen to get his photo taken with a koala. Bad thread title.

[–]Joshie_Woshiee 0 points1 point ago

Im not sure if to upvote because I know and like this picture or downvote because of a bad title.

[–]Wunderfee 2 points3 points ago

do neither, enjoy the picture, and post a comment about how unsure you are how to deal with this. maybe do an AMA

[–]Verteros 22 points23 points ago

Photo was taken during the Victorian Bushfires in Australia, this picture was all over the news, the koala was badly burned and hurt but he was ok in the end.

[–]RadiumGirl 25 points26 points ago

She died of chlamydia and is now on display at the Melbourne museum.

[–]emko91 3 points4 points ago

Saw her at the Museum. Was so sad, but I'm glad she was remembered in that way.

[–]Verteros 1 point2 points ago

No... ;_;

[–]cat_a_tat -1 points0 points ago

her name was sam. :)

[–]jean_baptiste 0 points1 point ago

This isnt' true, it was taken during backburning about a year prior to those fires.

A firefighter posted the images to friends during the bushfires.

For those unfamiliar with backburning, it is the controlled reduction of bushfire by professionals in the attempt to alleviate build-up / encourage local growth / remove tracts of vegetation. So the guy giving the koala water is potentially responsible for the fire.

[–]theartofalex 20 points21 points ago

Having many friends who fought these fires, and having my house only kilometres from this fire I find this offensive. All of these men and women are exceptional human beings.

Hundreds of CFA, MFB, SES and army personnel came from all over Australia to fight these fires Would you have had the courage to drive a truck through burning fires? To save all the people that they did.

These men and women can only begin to tell you the stories, to hear of them having to push cars off the road with burning bodies inside. Or to have to make a decision to save one house or let another burn, knowing that even though it was completely out of their control.

To have to listen in silence as a truck full of your fellow CFA members cry mayday as the fire comes tearing down on them, no other truck being able to get a lock on their position to help. The absolute relief when finally you here another truck screaming we found them, moments from losing them all.

Fire stations full of grown men crying, entire towns in mourning for days.

Maybe none of these men or women were photographed with an animal, but none of these people gave less than everything they had to fight these fires.

To even begin to say we are lacking these sort of people in the world is a terrible comment to make.

[–]Batmansdead 3 points4 points ago

And less koala neglecting fire fighters.

[–]flowercup 6 points7 points ago

My dad is a koala neglecting firefighter. He spends 0% of his time at work dealing with koalas and, if I had to guess, .0000004% of his time thinking about them.

He did however get a medal for rescuing a horse.

[–]aMaricon_Dream 3 points4 points ago

Riiiiiiiight, because there are just too many damn firefighters out there kicking koalas and laughing maliciously at suffocated, soot-covered kittens

[–]colin22 3 points4 points ago

Because all other firefighters lack good moral standing, amirite?

[–]Duraace 2 points3 points ago

And the world needs less people who want karma from reposts.

[–]IceCreamAndApplePie 6 points7 points ago

Every single firefighter i know volunteers. This is fucking stupid to say we need more firefighters to save a damn animal, when they are already saving people at their own risk and for free. Go fuck yourself.

[–]cpenny20 3 points4 points ago

fuck yeah

[–]admile3 4 points5 points ago

Right, most firefighters wouldnt do that... I mean, its not like they already put so much at risk for people.

[–]Yuri_BlackWolf 1 point2 points ago

I can verify most CFA fire fighters would just skin it and make a nice man bag out of it.

[–]five_argyle_sox 0 points1 point ago

I was thinking about this uplifting scene just the other day.

Here's the video if you're interested.

[–]ELPAPERTOWEL 2 points3 points ago

This picture is the most deserving of my "awwwwww"

[–]Flowere 0 points1 point ago

Go aussies <3 i think that was during the bush fires... anyway.. if your one of those people that are saying, we need more firefighters, shut up. these firefighters are like the rspca.. helping the lost and wounded animals also while saving humans.

[–]ingliprisen 0 points1 point ago

That's not a koala. Only drop bears are fire-proof

[–]fool_of_a_took88 0 points1 point ago

I swear to go everyday I think reddit can't top itself with adorable shit and then I see this. After seeing a scared panda bear hug someone. This shit is so fucking cute my eyeballs are probably gonna fall out.

[–]DenverDead 0 points1 point ago

This makes me sad :,( I did not come to r/aww to feel sad. DAMN YOU!

[–]maderita119 1 point2 points ago

Man. That is the most heart warming thing I have seen in a while! I am moved!

[–]barton100 0 points1 point ago

How is this get upvoted with a title like this? Not once have a saw a fireman just walk past an injured animal...

[–]Shojineko 0 points1 point ago

Koala thirsty. Koala drink.

[–]DerpExplosion 1 point2 points ago

Implying the average firefighter wouldn't give a Koala some water?

[–]so_close_magoo 1 point2 points ago

Yeah! Those shitty self endangering baby saving miscreants make me sick.

[–]kampfy3 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, most firefighters are selfish cunts.

Totally.

[–]tfdre 0 points1 point ago

Koalas do nothing but drink water and sleep. Why the fuck would we trust them with our lives?

[–]MissSarah90 0 points1 point ago

tbf, for all anyone knows, he could've already done the burning building thing. and saw that poor guy outside who could've been killed by the fire and wanted to help him! that firefighter is a hero to me! :)

[–]Epicshark 0 points1 point ago

I gave seen this repost over 4 times in a year.

[–]Volun 0 points1 point ago

Why does this make me feel like I'm on Facebook?

[–]19283746 0 points1 point ago

and less of careless idiots causing forest fires.

[–]thetromboffonist 0 points1 point ago

SAM!

[–]Stefarskii 0 points1 point ago

oh haaaayy...a koala! Awww! :')

[–]ProKrastiTRON 1 point2 points ago

Unfortunately the koala's condition is a result of a fire break that the fire fighters had lit themselves.

[–]jean_baptiste 1 point2 points ago

THIS. UPVOTE THIS. SO PEOPLE STOP FREAKING PLACING THIS PHOTO IN THE WRONG CONTEXT.

EDIT: Sources link1 link2 link3

[–]KSBhuorathro 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, fuck putting out the fires, just fuck around with animals!

[–]slaphead311 1 point2 points ago

There are plenty of firefighters like this. Especially with wildland fire, there are no papers taking pictures. Dope.

[–]uncle_balls 0 points1 point ago

my koala is sitting at home right now, and he is extremely thirsty. no matter how many times I call the Fire Brigade, they won't come and give it a drink. What am I supposed to do? So I say to you OP "HEAR HEAR!!!"

[–]t-rex79 0 points1 point ago

This is the true nature of most fire fighters, we care about the well being of others and dedicate our lives to protecting you.

[–]Octopus_Tetris -1 points0 points ago

And here I was told that koalas don't drink water, they get all the moisture they need by ingesting eukalyptus 'n shit. Wtf.

[–]Are_Six 0 points1 point ago

Reminds me of the dude with the heart ring from Captain Planet.

[–]youngphi 0 points1 point ago

Hmmm Aussie firefighter, I'd put a ring on that.

[–]pote14 0 points1 point ago

The world needs more people like this**

FTFY

[–]marcie89 0 points1 point ago

Heroes to both humans and wildlife ❤

[–]Sway17 0 points1 point ago

This photo was taken in Australia after the horror fire storms that swept through Victoria. Many lives were lost. Houses gone. This is one of the photos taken after the fire was under control. A sign of hope and desperation. A koala walked to a fire fighter desperate for water. Sadly this koala passed away from his injuries. The police, fire rescuer spent weeks going through houses. Finding bodies. Dealing with devestating.

So he was doing his job. He wasn't neglecting anyone.

[–]Echostation3T8 0 points1 point ago

That koala ain't a good firefighter! Burned feet n paws.. sitting down havin a drink on the job..

[–]Danez 1 point2 points ago

I know right, firefighters are usually such assholes. . ?

[–]omgnomgnome 1 point2 points ago

Firefighters are ALL like that.

[–]latticusnon -2 points-1 points ago

I predict some wet panties in this thread.

[–]flowercup 0 points1 point ago

He actally copped it for giving the koala water.

[–]CreamyGoodnss -2 points-1 points ago

Maybe if we had koalas here in the US, our firefighters wouldn't suck so much either

[–]LiteGrenade -2 points-1 points ago

ok not to be a party pooper but there was a famous photo of a fire fighter it was either this one, or the one were the fire fighter was pouring water over himsself (if im not mistaken) were he was called a hero ect ect but then after the investigation of what started the fire he was charged with arson.

[–]MissNoodles -2 points-1 points ago

This photo was taken after the Victorian bushfires in Australia. I believe it was in 2009. It was all over the news. There were a lot of instances of rescues of animals in these conditions. Unfortunately not all could be saved, likewise for the people who also perished. The animals that could were actually very willing to take help. My friend is a wildlife carer, a lot of animals being brought in seemed to know all she wanted to do was help them.

Just in case anybody wanted any context on this image.

[–]randylove69 -2 points-1 points ago

My daughter was born the day this pic was taken.

[–]LindEm[S] 0 points1 point ago

Apologies for the confusion, the title wasn't meant to take a shot at firemen (some of the bravest and kindest people out there IMO), just thought it was an awesome picture... Not sure how to edit it, but sub firefighters for people :P

[–]eremag 0 points1 point ago

How many firefighters do you know? Maybe all the firefighters in the world are actually just like this? :O

[–]simianSojourner -1 points0 points ago

It may be late at night, but the first thing I thought was "Why is that man pouring vodka into that koalas mouth? Is that an actual scientific study? Did we get koalas drunk?"

[–]flowercup 1 point2 points ago

Well did we?

[–]Wunderfee 2 points3 points ago

once, never again.
