I figured you for a mage.

If you have the aptitude, you should join the Mage's College in Winterhold.

[–]Hellzapoppin 4 points5 points ago

But I'm the fucking ARCH MAGE. A detail that irritates me. Also that ownership of the archmages chamber failed to pass to me, though I do have a key.

[–]IcalasariPC 0 points1 point ago

Honestly, I think that's a figure head position and the Archmage actually isn't important at all. They could have a dumbass non magical bandit take the position for all they care

[–]alekzander01PS3 10 points11 points ago

TIL the subtitles actually say aptitude.

[–]QuantumOmeletteflair 26 points27 points ago

As opposed to what?

[–]classy_stegasaurusPC 13 points14 points ago

Attitude?

[–]RaVNzCRoFTPC 14 points15 points ago

And why would they say that?

[–]moonbeamwhimPC 49 points50 points ago

Because the Dovakiin is sassy.

[–]FomorianKingPC 18 points19 points ago

Oh no you di'in't!

[–]moonbeamwhimPC 14 points15 points ago

I will trap your soul and use it to enchant restoration fortification, for I am kind.

Wait until you hit master in destro and conjuration the you're a god

[–]Darth_TardXBOX 13 points14 points ago

Dead Thralls + Lightning Storm

[–]FomorianKingPC 11 points12 points ago

Lightning Storm + Disintegrate Perk = Don't make me destroy you.

[–]HeratyXBOX 2 points3 points ago

2 Dremora Lords and Lightning Storm. It also helps that I've full negated the cost of all destruction spells with enchantments.

[–]Garthoneeyeflair 5 points6 points ago

You don't even really need the storm. Open the door, toss in the Dremoras, shut the door and enjoy the screams from the other side.

[–]Smash19 0 points1 point ago

It's useful against Dragons in the air definitely. TBH I don't ever use the master spells because of their AOE and charge time!

[–]shamu2893 0 points1 point ago

i prefer ice storm, faster cast and it has the knockback, and demora lords

[–]Darth_TardXBOX 0 points1 point ago

You haven't lived until you have two Pyromancers as thralls.

[–]RobertJay92 13 points14 points ago

I am disappointed that you cannot become a recognized god in Skyrim.

[–]chefmcduck 5 points6 points ago

The guards would still ask you if you fetched mead for the Companions.

[–]IcalasariPC 2 points3 points ago

...Actually, it is odd that there isn't even a small group calling you Talos incarnate

Its really like that with about anything in this game as long as you level it enough. With the right perks, high enough one handed and smithing, you can kill a dragon with a dagger

[–]actuallyitsnotokay[S] 1 point2 points ago

Yeah thats true. Im purposely staying away from enchanting for that exact reason. Too much raw power lol.

[–]The_Painted_Man 11 points12 points ago

No one man should have all that power.

[–]HoldmysunnyDflair 1 point2 points ago

I'm one of those who back in December leveled all three crafting perks and then made armor and weapons with 7+ digit stats. I wink at Ancient Dragons and they just relinquish their soul. I backhanded Alduin to death.

[–]daonejorge 7 points8 points ago

There is nothing like taking out flying dragon with lighting storm. You become an AA gun that reduces everything to ash

[–]maiqtheliar 6 points7 points ago

Fear me! BZZZKTSCHSSSS!

[–]nickkname99 10 points11 points ago

"YOU NEVER SHOULD HAVE COME HERE!!!"

[–]janglesthemoonmonkey 9 points10 points ago

I realize you're wearing Daedric armor and have a dragonbone sword but YOU PICKED A BAD TIME TO GET LOST, FRIEND

[–]Jamesfox849XBOX 5 points6 points ago

I'm assuming you're also using enchantment to bring down the spell cost? That shit gets expensive otherwise.

[–]watermelon1425 4 points5 points ago

Not if you invest every level up into magicka (sp?) like a good Mage.

[–]anschauen 1 point2 points ago

Pfft, it's a waste of points when you can get 0 magicka destro casts. ;)

[–]watermelon1425 3 points4 points ago

How? Is it enchanting? I never put perks in enchanting, and then I always regret it when I find every enchantment I like.

[–]HeratyXBOX 5 points6 points ago

Max out enchanting, and you can fully negate the cost of 2 schools of Magicka. I've gone Destruction and Restoration. Then I summon 2 Dremora Lords using the Twin Souls perk.

Nothing stops me.

[–]Sahloknir74 2 points3 points ago

Yup, I think that kind of power qualifies you as a god.

[–]Humpa 1 point2 points ago

Basically, enchantments that say something like "Reduce magicka cost of Destruction spells by 12%" are additive, so if you have 4 such enchantments that say 25% then 25+25+25+25=100%. Basically you end up with "Reduce magicka cost of Destruction spells by 100%". Max per item is apparently 29%. But I'm not shure if thats true considering the alchemy-enchanting loop that is possible. You can have 4 items with this type of enchantment on at once (helm armor ring necklace) but you need high enough skills, and a good enchantment potion (not sure how the ratios are exactly). Finally, you can get two enchantments on each item, so you can get two different schools.

Personally, I'm looking for a mod that makes it multiplicative, so that 4 25% gear becomes ( 1 - (0.75*0.75*0.75*0.75) ) = 68% reduction. (29% gives around 75% reduction)

edit: also, don't read up about the alchemy-enchantment loop, it will ruin skyrim for you. edit2: the bonus from armor and bonus from perks don't stack btw. basically it's (armor+...+...+armor)*(perk+...+...+perk).

[–]watermelon1425 0 points1 point ago

That loop would take forever, and I don't like having perks in two crafting skills on a single character. Anyways, time to get back to my sneakmage. We have some work to do.

[–]anschauen 1 point2 points ago

Yes, enchanting. You regret it when it's low, but ... When you get higher, they are seriously the best gear aside from the Master's Robe of Destruction. With helm/ring/neck/chest, you'll easily reach 100% reduction and don't even need magica regent as much, since you can basically spam destro for free.

[–]alekzander01PS3 6 points7 points ago

Bitch please, getting Daedric armor for the first time.

[–]watermelon1425 13 points14 points ago

Not if your heavy armor skill is at 25.

[–]alekzander01PS3 1 point2 points ago

Still looks badass

[–]lodf 2 points3 points ago

The only magic I use is illusion (and restoration of course) but I don't have enough magicka to use all the master level spells...

[–]Ragnalypse 1 point2 points ago

That's a shame, Illusion is the one school with worthwhile master level spells.

[–]lodf 2 points3 points ago

I am happy with muffle and invisibility. I need two more levels to have enough magicka though.

[–]Ragnalypse 0 points1 point ago

Well, not to spoil anything but... the range on master-level is gigantic. You can turn a smaller dungeon upside-down.

[–]lodf 0 points1 point ago

Oh, I know. Indeed the only one I can't use is harmony. Anyway the spell that causes fear (don't remember the name now) is fun to use.

[–]lodf 0 points1 point ago

I used to think the same thing then I made a sword class, much more powerful

[–]Garthoneeyeflair 0 points1 point ago

Just use a mod that adds a damage bonus to dest, just like every other offensive weapon in the game gets. It balances things nicely.

I always have a mercenary with me a just bought a dog so I barely need to kill anything, I literally walk around opening chests and searching inventories. I regularly allow people to just attack me because I know it won't be long until they are dead through a hand that is not my own.

[–]LucidMetalflair 1 point2 points ago

Just wait until you have master enchanting and can cast master destruction spells for free!

What is the best way to raise Destruction? I think mine is about 65-70 ... I realize just using it makes it go up but I'm trying to power it up. I'm already level 55 and spent the majority of the game as a sword-shield (one hand and block are 100). Any advice?

[–]lolocopta1XBOX 0 points1 point ago

IAMA merciful god AMA edit:too late

[–]e7TopHat 0 points1 point ago

I assume you're not playing on expert or mastery difficulty?

Because without mods mages are so bad :(. Made me sad they repeated the same mistake oblivion originally had >_>

[–]deausx 5 points6 points ago

Magic floated between weakest DD in the game to a little sub-par, until you got your enchanting to the point where destruction spells were free. Then you become a wrecking machine of legendary proportions.

[–]watermelon1425 5 points6 points ago

What are you talking about? All my Mage characters rain death upon everything in Skyrim on Expert.

[–]Bobtheoldcat 0 points1 point ago

Same here but on master. Sure I die by one or 2 arrows since I got no protection at all but I'm never the one targeted really.

Who is downvoting this guy ? It's not like its hard to become a strong mage. Destruction, conjuration and enchanting is really all you need to kick ass. Being a high elf helps a lot too since you get the high born power and some extra mana in the beginning.

[–]watermelon1425 0 points1 point ago

I just use the sneak skill to avoid getting hit. With the silent casting perk, it makes me a Conjuration/Destruction death god.

[–]Scuderia 2 points3 points ago

Magic in Vanilla Oblivion was so overpowered.

[–]OralnPC 3 points4 points ago

MEEEEEEEE

[–]Tonytarium 0 points1 point ago

Has anyone maxed eveything? Is that even possible, i want power...

[–]Smash19 1 point2 points ago

I've got a level 63 Mage character. with level 100 on all magic skills. Ironically that char now wanders around in heavy armour with a sword as I'm desperately trying to get to level 75!

[–]BEBHavenPC 1 point2 points ago

You can get every skill to 100 (eventually), but the max level is 81, so you get 80 perks total, which isn't enough to fill every skill tree.

[–]revolverbobcatPS3 -1 points0 points ago

With the power of console commands on pc anything is possible.

[–]Tonytarium 0 points1 point ago

I have it on 360, my computer is shit

[–]MoustachedgoosePC 0 points1 point ago

You can't have bear with lute with console commands, you need mods.
