"Related" means that posts must contain gaming-related content in the link/post body, not just a "forced" connection via the title or a caption added to the content.

Posting Rules

  • Posts must be directly gaming-related. Thus, "generic" image macros/memes (where the character itself is not related to gaming) like Scumbag Steve, Good Guy Greg, etc. will be removed. Something that "reminds you of a game", or "looks like something from a game" is also not an appropriate submission; similarly, reaction GIFs are also not appropriate as submissions.

  • Following Reddiquette is encouraged

  • No "general" URL shorteners (bitly, tinyurl, etc). Single-site URL shorteners (such as youtu.be or fav.me) are allowed.

  • No game or product giveaway of any kind

  • NSFW submissions and comments must be labeled

  • Spoilers can be posted using the following formatting:
    [X Kills Y](/spoiler)
    Result: X Kills Y.

  • To mark a spoiler as relevant to a specific game/topic, use the alternate formatting:
    [Player 1 wins](/spoiler "Pong")
    Result:
    Player 1 wins

  • Report posts containing spoilers not using the above method

  • Don't post users' personal information.

I think the GameCube controller was just fine...

[–]Coooturtle 11 points12 points ago

The GC controller is prolly my favorite controller of all time.

[–]Ezuri -5 points-4 points ago

it's a great controller yes but it's a bit small

[–]Mattshyd 0 points1 point ago

I think the smallness was what made it great.

[–]enjoysuon 0 points1 point ago

agreed and snes for me just cant get tired of it

[–]Sidence 10 points11 points ago

I really don't understand this. The Gamecube controller was a technical wonder; it had a good feel, fit well in the hand, and there was a Wavebird version for people with too big of hands for the standard wired one. Plus, the button layout was unique enough for you to not confuse it with another console, and the analogs felt great (the sticks were leagues ahead of the N64, but still maintained the directional aiding that neither Sony or MS has incorporated, and those triggers felt wonderful).

[–]L_Duo -1 points0 points ago

It never fit well in my hands. I absolutely hated the shoulder buttons, and the strange lay-out of the front buttons meant whenever I would pick a gamecube controller up at a friends house to try and play it, I had absolutely no idea what I was doing.

And while the analog stick might not have been as bad as the N64's, it was still pretty bad, and would eventually fuck up your fingers as well.

[–]itsme0 5 points6 points ago

The gamecube controller is my favorite. The main button you use in ANY game would be the "A" button. It was RIGHT there and huge, there's no way it could ever be hard to press or accidentally press another button.

Also, it was in the middle of all the others making it fast to press in other button.

I will give that the d pad is a little out of place though, but we need something to taunt with in ssbm.

[–]sprinricco 0 points1 point ago

I thought the feel of the L/R-buttons was a little awkward.

[–]itsme0 0 points1 point ago

How so? they wrap around your fingers... maybe they felt weird because you have big hands???

[–]sprinricco 0 points1 point ago

Nah, I mean that you have you have to press them down so hard that it feels more like a "pumping" motion than pressing.

[–]itsme0 0 points1 point ago

oh, that. I guess that there's truth to that but in some games you could change the sensitivity. I don't remember when I started, but I've never realized any problems I have with pressing "R" and "L" Maybe I just hold them down almost all the way until I need to press them?

All well, whatever it is, we all have our own opinions about different controllers.

[–]Regen89 22 points23 points ago

n64 controller fucking owned, haters are high as fuck

[–]FXLust 5 points6 points ago

Agreed N64 kicked ass.

[–]Locclo 0 points1 point ago

Even when I was a kid with small hands, I thought it was a lousy design. I don't even care that it had three different things to hang onto (the only game I could honestly remember playing that used the D-Pad was Kirby 64), but it was awkward as hell to have one hand in the center, one hand on the right, and a third of a controller sitting off to the left, unused.

I mean...the N64 was one of the greatest consoles I've ever had the pleasure of owning, but that controller was kinda dumb.

[–]WarPhalange -4 points-3 points ago

Are you retarded? You couldn't reach half the damn buttons depending on your grip.

[–]Regen89 1 point2 points ago

Are you talking about the Dpad/L1 that were ignored in 90% of games, and if they werent you ignored analog/z.

Like what?? Maybe you just have small hands /shrug

edit: get good kid

[–]WarPhalange -4 points-3 points ago

Are you talking about the Dpad/L1 that were ignored in 90% of games,

Chicken or the egg?

"Nobody can reach these, we might as well ignore them."

[–]Regen89 0 points1 point ago

They were purposely intended to be used as an either or you dumb fucking retard, will not respond further, grow a brain.

[–]cwilliamson2 -1 points0 points ago

Screw you it's one of the best controllers ever

[–]WarPhalange 0 points1 point ago

It's garbage. Why do you lie to yourself like this?

[–]cwilliamson2 -1 points0 points ago

Because it's awesome?

[–]WarPhalange 0 points1 point ago

It's awesome to lie to yourself?

[–]cwilliamson2 0 points1 point ago

Because the controller felt nice in your hands, played well, and was easy to use. On top of all that it went with an amazing console. thats what's awesome

[–]WarPhalange 0 points1 point ago

Because the controller felt nice in your hands, played well, and was easy to use.

Why do you keep lying?

On top of all that it went with an amazing console. thats what's awesome

Which only had like 5 good games. Overpriced games, I might add, cuz cartridge.

[–]cwilliamson2 0 points1 point ago

It was awesome... don't lie to yourself...

[–]WarPhalange 0 points1 point ago

Hey pal, if i wanted my own comeback I'd wipe off your mom's chin.

The controller was atrocious and there were only a few good games on the system.

[–]jwlevine 5 points6 points ago

...and the wii U has a giant fucking screen in the middle.

[–]machspeedhero 2 points3 points ago

If you found it on the internet you damn well know it's repost.

[–]iamqueensboulevard 0 points1 point ago

he's just not sure if he made it or not

[–]ReverendDexter 4 points5 points ago

What happened is that Nintendo hedged their bet. They weren't sure how well the analog stick was going to be accepted, so they made the controller such that if gamers insisted on sticking with the D-pad, they wouldn't immediately loose market share to the Playstation and it's (at the time) more traditional controller.

If you look at all the controllers used by console systems that coexisted with the NES and SNES, they all used fairly similar controllers. Sega Master System, Genesis, TurboGRFX 16 (however you spell it), Jaguar, Saturn, Playstation... hell even the Neo Geo console's controller were all similar in appearance/design.

[–]skewp 0 points1 point ago

Let me teach you what the word "traditional" means. It means standard. Non-revolutionary. The dual analog was not "traditional" because it was the first dual analog joystick controller. By definition it cannot be called "traditional." The correct term to use would be "modern." The dual analog was the first modern controller. And if anything, its design was much more conservative than the N64 controller.

The N64 controller forced both players and game designers to use the analog stick, because at the time no console had ever been released with an analog thumb stick like that. The Dual Shock 1 (which was also released 2 years after the N64) basically bolted the joysticks onto the controller in the most unobtrusive way possible and did nothing to encourage gamers or developers to use them. hardly any games took advantage of them and most games that did let you opt out of them anyway. They didn't become the standard way to control PlayStation games until the PS2.

[–]naksidras 1 point2 points ago

And here is the evolution of the PS controller.

http://www.geekologie.com/2009/12/17/ps-controller.jpg

Nope, it was right the first time. NM.

[–]GreenAdder 3 points4 points ago

You left out the original PS3 controllers which had no vibration, because Sony said it was impossible to have both motion control and vibration in the same controller.

[–]naksidras 0 points1 point ago

I didn't create this image BTW.

[–]fishyguy13 0 points1 point ago

Dat rejected controller.

[–]iamqueensboulevard 1 point2 points ago

what the hell is Dual sCHock and plasystation

[–]Locclo 1 point2 points ago

Those are the Chinese rip-off versions, you see.

[–]Ezuri 0 points1 point ago

This will need to be updated with the WiiU when it gets released to the public

[–]cottoncandysex 1 point2 points ago

gamecube had less buttons than the PS2 and the xbox. what are you talking about?

[–]ksteph22 0 points1 point ago

I enjoyed the N64 Controller. It's not like the D-pad was used in much games where the joystick was used, and vice-versa. The Gamecube contoller is my favorite controller right behind the 360. Fits your hands perfectly and all buttons are very easy to reach.

[–]arc111111 0 points1 point ago

I don't understand why people goes ape-shit one the N64 controller. It was a smart move to have 3 handles. Let me explain :

For 2D games, you use the D-pad, because it's more precise, right ? And you have a nice trigger to use too. Feel like a regular controller.

And then, for 3D games, you have a second handle. Instead of using the left one, you use the middle one with the stick. And the Z button act as a remplacement for the L button.

You can chose wich handle is better for every type of game you play. But saddly, nobody ever used the left handle, so it was totaly useless and the controler design got a bad reputation.

[–]clevername516 0 points1 point ago

The N64 controller was a god damn good controller! You never had to use all three at once. You had the option to comfortably use the left stick or the middle. At least they are trying to innovate controllers instead of rehashing the same one. PS I think the 360 controller is made by god.

[–]cwilliamson2 0 points1 point ago

I loved the 64 controller..

[–]Loinscurvey 0 points1 point ago
