It's not training gone wrong. This is the intended result, believe it nor not. It's a Russian anti-car-bomb plan. The guy at the end of the stick is fine.

Here's the video. Basically what it is is C4 strapped to a stick, and he detonates it by hitting the bus.

He's wearing a bomb suit, which handled the brunt of the blow and prevents heat or shrapnel from hurting him. He's also knocked away, which helps impart some of the energy from the blast. He might not feel to great afterwards, but he's not actually hurt, aside from bumps and bruises.

This is a guess, but he may be wearing some sort of light bomb suit. Not a full on det suit but heavier than the standard body armor. And really, since C4 is a plastic explosive, it's a lot more controllable. There's no huge fireball it's just concussive force. So if he has body armor to negate the shockwave, his internal organs are fine, and he's just hitting the ground hard.

You would be surprised at just how close you can (relatively) safely be to an explosion. It's all about the pressure when there is no shrapnel flying around, and being out in the open gives that pressure plenty of space. Being in a room or something is a different story entirely.

I think that's just how the debris from the explosion came out of the bus. The explosion starts at the midpoint when he hits the bus with the boomstick.
