Same for me, the day Steam was launched

[–]BlackBlizzard 1 point2 points ago

how did you find it

[–]jeangenie18 6 points7 points ago

Are you asking how he found steam? Back then we had HL and CS 1.5 through WON(rip) servers. I played through gamespy. They announced CS 1.6 coming out and needing to download "Steam" to play it. It was shit back then. It's really come a long way.

[–]PDXPayback 1 point2 points ago

I'd almost forgotten how terrible Steam was at launch. Definitely worse then Origin is. I hated it with a passion, but now it's the only way I'll buy games. It's come a long ways in 9 years.

[–]BlackBlizzard 1 point2 points ago

yeah I've seen the old green blocky steam

1 year in December for me, but I don't have my virginity.

[–]BostonGraver 0 points1 point ago

9 years for me in December - took me a while to figure out why CS 1.6 wasn't working anymore! :P

Why do humans always feel as though milestones are so important? Not saying I'm different or anything...

Do we care about these things?

I hit 8 years today, a majority of it I wasn't on Steam but I started back when CS:S originally came out. I couldn't play CS:S because it was too good for my machine so I had to play 1.6 and Condition Zero (shudder) until I could upgrade.

[–]FreakyPsychadelic 0 points1 point ago

I have only 2 years in steam, but thats ok, cuz More than half of my friends only have about 6 monthes. (still feeling pro)

[–]DarenDark 0 points1 point ago

What made you sign up for steam?

[–]FreakyPsychadelic 3 points4 points ago

My friend sent me a trailer of Prototype, and i thought it looked really cool, so i just googled "Prototype price" and the steam store came up. Havent bought Prototype to this very day.

[–]DeadAlready 2 points3 points ago

I followed gaming news fairly closely before I got a pc capable of gaming, so once I got my laptop with my first semesters leftover financial aid one of the first things I installed was steam.

Bought Mass Effect at $20, and spent a year thinking it wouldn't run because it didn't occur to me that I could change the video settings.

Will hit 3 years in November.

[–]TwistedStack 0 points1 point ago

2 years on Steam as well here. I signed up because of free Portal. Little did I know that an annual credit card sacrifice is required.

[–]DarenDark -2 points-1 points ago

Oh was it? huh. I guess that's what would have stopped me from making 20 steam accounts and giving it when a non-gamer asks. :) Now I no longer regret missing that chance!

But yeah, if there was ever a reason to get steam, Portal would do it.

[–]mvj 5 points6 points ago

I believe he was referring to the infamous Steam summer sale.

[–]DarkRyoushii 0 points1 point ago

or when both Nvidia and ATI were offering portal as a deal if you have an Nvidia or ATI graphics card and participated in a hardware survey. Which was awesome because that meant basically every gamer could get a free copy at the same time!

[–]waspbr 0 points1 point ago

Let's not forget the Halloween sale and the Christmas sale.

[–]herpyderp16 0 points1 point ago

I've only got since 2006, in 12 days it'll be 6 years

[–]hassenbinlaid 0 points1 point ago

April 9, 2004 for me...8 years. Though I'm fairly sure I had Steam since it's inception. Guessing the discrepancy is in the account. I think I had a different account way back then. Like, I assume, most others at 8 years...I got Steam right around the time CS 1.6 came around.

[–]DarenDark 0 points1 point ago

If you had steam games tied to an account, there really is no point in switching, is there?

[–]hassenbinlaid 0 points1 point ago

I think I gave the CD key to my roomate.

[–]DoctorTurkleton 0 points1 point ago

I think you mean around the time Half Life 2 came around.

[–]hassenbinlaid 0 points1 point ago

Nah...I remember being forced to get steam if I still wanted to play CS. It was around 2002-2003.

[–]Soupias 0 points1 point ago

I will join the 8 year club in less than two months!

[–]Snakkred 1 point2 points ago

March 21, 2005. Still remember griping about why in the hell do I need to install this Steam program just to play a game. Beat HL2 in 2 days, never logged back into it until this year.

[–]Okashu 1 point2 points ago

April 12, 2011 :c

Until 2010 I believed "Steam" was just another name for non-pirate Counter Strike (because everybody in my school said so, and Steam didn't become extremeley popular until 2009/2010), and because I had zero interest in Counter Strike, I didn't have Steam

[–]earwigy1990 0 points1 point ago

8 years in jan for me

[–]jones2pm 0 points1 point ago

I'll have 9 years on the 20th. My account is a fossil in internet time.

[–]Deric 0 points1 point ago

I hit my 8 years in may.

Also hit my xbox live 8 year mark too. Kinda neat they both happened so close.

[–]VinnieLDN 0 points1 point ago
